Annual
Rare Vintage Simmental Sale Saturday September 28, 2019 at 1:00 pm
Wow!...The 2nd Annual Production sale has snuck up on us. It seemed like we waited for winter to end then waited for the rains to stop which put us late into the pastures. I put my head up and here we are again. Calving season went exceptionally well with a large supply of solid genetics. It’s no lie we like to look at our cattle but they have to perform. We don’t breed strictly on numbers but we sure use them as a guideline. Some of the opens and breds are in the top 5 and 10% of EPD averages and are still phenotypically cool to view. These cattle have to endure deep snow, rainy monsoons in the spring and humid summers so they can survive anywhere and have. We had so many happy customers in all facets last year. Very rewarding was the fact all calving reports went exceptionally well. We pay close attention to breeding choices. I am very proud of Lindsey who has really organized the herd thru record keeping and kept us on a good path. Cassie Bell was hired this year for calving health and to learn about Herd Health, Breeding and Donor management and did a fine job. Christen Braat heads up the show barn which is a huge task because pretty much all opens get at least halter broke. Cody Campbell helps in the daily feeding, ground work and hay production. Pat Campbell does everything and then some “Mr Fix It”. We did find some time to visit the Ohio State Fair where we won many classes and divisions along with Grand Champion % Bull. We also took home premier Breeder and Exhibitor. We then traveled to the Simmental Sweepstakes where we also took home Premier Breeder, Get of Dam and Get of Sire! I don’t think you will find a stronger set of opens that will compete at any level and some awesome replacement heifers that will become future donors or staples to your herd. The breds are in good shape and the sires chosen carefully. Believe me when I say all the cattle in this offering will perform very well in your Simmental business. The herd bulls will be on display as we believe these to be as good or better than most promotional sires. We took these bulls to Denver as they were received well there. We also added a small division fall bulls. The three being offered are exceptional and ready for fall breeding or early spring. We had another event as Magnolia Bell Ferguson turned 1 family gatherings have turned into events here and they should! I would like to Thank all of our customers past and present and if there are any questions please ask! God Bless America! John J Ferguson

ASA #: 3597923 - Polled - Open Heifer ASA #: 3597924 - Polled - Open Heifer Purebred Neon Rey’s it doesn’t get much better. We still use our deceased herd sire Catchin A Dream. He transmits a special look, excellent udders, added milk, and a good foot. These full siblings will both show. G218 is the baldy and had a lot of admirers early, while G228 has maybe a tick more frame. Both females are big time heifers that are built for long careers.

911... Yes it’s an emergency to come to Jefferson on 9/28 to latch onto one of these sweethearts. We purchased HPF Sazerac 251D at the Hudson Pines Dispersal. Previously we had purchased 1/4 interest for $15K. This was her first flush and she did not disappoint. These two ladies have a lot of sexy in them. So soft on there pasterns, long flat hip, plenty of rib, and a long neck that comes out high. Throw in a sweet disposition and G907 & G911 come to the top as consistent high quality individuals.

Here is an exciting star headed female by our 251D donor. This female is long necked, and powerful at the ground. Study the structural correctness, and long powerful hip and you’re sure to fall in love with this E.O. daughter. Great genetics behind this standout.
Time to get in on the ground floor of one of the most exciting bulls to come out of the Werning program in some time. The Fort Knox stud has the power, style, and hair needed to run towards the backdrop. Couple that with Sazerac who has placed two elite daughters by Executive Order in this sale and you’re left with a very intriguing genetic package. PB Simmental mating, EPD’s from planned mating.

My good friend Gene Rowe and I purchased a flush from another friend Dale Phelps on NPC Miss Lucky Gal. Boy did she explode into the widest, thickest, and biggest first calf female in the offering. Sale Feature!
ASA #: 3580266 - Polled - Open Heifer I can’t say enough about these X11 calves, they are simply powerful. Her first calf by Catchin A Dream sold for $10K in Louisville, her second by Sure Bet sold for $11K to Wernings, starting to get the drift. This heifer is so cool made, square hipped, straight top line, all set on four big feet. G278’s disposition is excellent as she won her class and division at the Ohio State Fair. Cool Baldy!

ASA #: 3599483 - Polled - Open Heifer Show here, make her a donor, choice will be yours but in my opinion G920 is towards the top of the genetic tree. Dale Phelps and I purchased half interest in Hope Floats for $30k for a good reason. This is a true outcross feature with impeccable style and class. This female is not eligible for the Best of the Buckeye program.
ASA #: 3602302 - Polled - Open Heifer A real sale feature here owned in partnership with our good friends at H20 cattle of Indiana. This Style daughter goes back to the infamous Honey donor who needs little introduction to the breed. Check out her flawless structure, easy feeding design, and great hair coat. Love the side profile this young female possesses and her big sweeping rib cage. This one will be a lot of fun during Jackpot season and will transmit into a high powered donor when her show career wraps up. This female is not eligible for the Best of the Buckeye program.

As we were waiting our turn in the yards to display our pen bulls Gib & Steven Yardley stopped to admire Washington. Their comments were “This is the kind of bulls we like big footed, big bellied, and big nutted. How much?” Well they couldn’t quite pry F838 from us, as we think he is special. Power and mass with plenty of flex on a monster foot. Washington worked hard this summer, and is proving to be an out-cross sire sure to turn heads. I have a feeling we may be selling semen next year on him. Tell me what you think!

A full sibling to W/C Loaded Up! There is a back story to this guy... Jefferson was going to be a member of our pen of bulls until he got something lodged in his throat. A midnight emergency tracheotomy at Ohio State later, and we thought for sure we would end up with the nicest gomer in the country. He slowly recovered but lost too much ground to be considered for the pen. We let this bull cover a small group of cows this summer and he hasn’t missed a beat. I don’t hesitate to say F821 has a bright future ahead, don’t you agree!
