Pictures of somebody climbing a rocky mountain face, pictures of huge waves crashing on the shore, roaring lions, an ant holding a twig in the air, 10 times its size. There was always a motivational message at the footer of the picture, "the race isn't always won by the swiftest, sometimes it's won by those who just keep on going. "You are only confined by the walls you build yourself". I remember thinking that those pictures and messages were not for me. They were for people who needed help. Weaker people who would believe in fluff like that. Dreamers. Well I have to say I was a little more cynical back then (yes it is possible to get less cynical with time!). I believed that my life was going quite well, work and relationships were good and that I did not need advice or additional inspiration. Then things started to change for me, and not in a good way. I realised that I was not as secure as I thought. In summary, in a short space of time I lost my relationship (and got left with a lot of debt), I got made redundant from my job of 11 years and my mother became seriously ill. Although all terrible things at the time, in hindsight those experiences taught me just how fragile our situations can be and how quickly the rug can be pulled out from underneath our seeming contentment. They taught me that anything can change at any time. Life is fragile and to be cherished and we all need to grow, to be loved and to be understood and respected. We need to feed our minds and to look after our bodies. My attitude began to change. I began to look at those pictures decorating the gym wall in a different way. Having been humbled by the circumstances of life, I decided that any information intending to have a positive impact, would certainly not hurt me. Could it even help me? Encouraged by a close friend who was in to personal development (previously I thought they had gone wacky!), I started reading books on transformation, self awareness and positivity. Things started to change in my life and I

have not looked back. Another thing I started to do was practice positive affirmations. Now, when I first heard about affirmations, I was skeptical at best and often thought the idea a bit loopy. And when you start doing it, it does feel a bit unusual. I concluded though, that you have two major options to fill your mind with: positivity or negativity. I concluded that enough negativity occurs on its own. So making an effort to redress the balance is probably a good idea.
My Affirmation Power Start I now have a regular morning list that I quietly read to myself before the working day starts and I would like to share it below. Some of these I had picked up in books and others I had constructed myself. The great thing is consistently reading these actually works! I find that repeating these lines to myself reinforces positive feelings and helps to eradicate negative feelings about myself. I feel my mood improving and feelings of higher self esteem and a can-do attitude come over me: I am open and receptive to all good Today is a great day of prosperity I am moving from poverty thinking, into prosperity thinking My income is constantly increasing I am willing to go beyond my past I release the limitations of my parents Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better I am conscientious and diligent I am confident I am capable I am competent I am proactive I am efficient I am proficient I am happy I like myself I like other people Other people like me I always have enough I always have an abundance
