A

S one third of The Jonas Brothers, Joe

Jonas has grown up in the lime light… Following in the footsteps of fellow Disney star, Justin Timberlake, Joe has also decided to go it alone, leaving his band (brothers) in pursuit of a solo career. Gearing up to release his solo album, Fast Life, we caught up with Joe to find out how he’s feeling about going it alone and why he’s in the UK at the moment..

“The current UK music scene is really amazing, it’s definitely getting better and better. Every time I’m here I find new artists and things that I really love listening to.”

You‘ve only been here a couple of days but how are you finding the UK so far? It‘s been great. I always love coming over to Europe, the response is always great. I did the BBC Teen Awards and that was a great time – its good to be back! The BBC Teen Awards were at Wembley Arena; did that give you a taster and make you a little bit more excited to be back at the same venue later this month? Yes, it‘s always an incredible feeling to play there. It was a great taste tester of what it‘s going to be like back here at the end of the month.

After being in a group it must be a little bit daunting going out by yourself, is it a bit like starting from scratch? Sometimes – it‘s cool to be back and to be able to do my solo stuff here. It‘s a little bit sometimes scary to be up there by myself but I‘ve been getting great support and the band support so overall I‘m just happy. In America you‘ve just finished touring with Jay Sean who‘s from London – how was the tour? It was great, he‘s such a good tour partner and I‘m really happy and thankful to have been able to do that tour. Jojo was the opener too and that was a lot of fun. Jay Sean is a really cool guy so we had a great time. Did he offer you any advice coming from a solo artist? We sort of both gave advice to each other, just to go out there and have a good time and to really enjoy every second, every moment as it can move by so quickly. As mentioned earlier you performed at the BBC teen awards yesterday, did you get a chance to check out any of the UK talent that performed? What‘s your opinion on the current music scene? The current UK music scene is really amazing, it‘s definitely getting better and better. Every time I‘m here I find new artists and things that I really love listening to. I got to meet the One Direction guys and thought they were really nice, really cool and I‘m really happy for them. Pixie [Lott] is a good friend of mine and I love her music and her new stuff sounds incredible.

www.dyrt.co.uk

One Direction came from a program called the X Factor, which you appeared on their sister show the Xtra Factor on Saturday (8/10), how was that experience for you? It was really fun! It was a little bit interesting as it was the first time I was learning about the program, I didn‘t want to necessarily mess up any of the names – I definitely ended up messing up someone‘s name! I said Lucy instead of Janet so that was a little bit of a funny moment but I think they understood that it would have been out of the norm for me to know everybody. I definitely want to keep up with the series; I‘m really interested to see who wins. Funnily enough I got to watch the show for the first time in the studio and the ones who go kicked off were the ones who I thought were going to be kicked off except for one person – I felt pretty proud of myself for knowing my stuff! Now later this month you‘re coming back to the UK to tour with Britney Spears, that‘s gotta be something that must be a little surreal? It‘s definitely surreal! I grew up listening to Britney Spears – it feels good to be back here but to be doing this tour is just so incredible. Britney was the first CD I ever bought so I‘ve listened to her stuff since I was really young and continued to listen to her music for many years so it‘s very exciting.

―I‘ve been lucky enough to have been able to work with some really amazing artists and some amazing songwriters.‖

Britney is well known for having a massive live show, really theatrical, big stage set up. What can we look forward to with your set? Very high energy! Fun show! I almost like to make the crowd feel like they‘re in a club, I just want to get them dancing, get them standing up. I feel like I‘m not doing my job unless everyone‘s standing up and rocking out. Have a really good time with it and hope everyone else does too. 18

INTERVIEW Your debut album Fast Life is due out in the UK on 24th October, and with this album you collaborated with many different writers, producers and artists such as Chris Brown and Lil Wayne. Has working with these artists been important in your musical transition to a more R&B influenced sound? Yes definitely – it‘s always a good feeling when you work with artists that are that incredible. I‘ve been lucky enough to have been able to work with some really amazing artists and some amazing songwriters. You know, I guess it depends I‘ve been lucky enough to have been able to work with producers and writers that I personally really look up to. So, it really kind of almost is helpful to be able to work with artists who are accepted into that genre because it means that people that listen to that kind of music have a newfound respect I think for artists that do that. Who would be your dream collaborations to work with in the future? Maybe Kanye West, British artists like Adele, Tinie Tempah, then Foster The People, something a little different from what I‘m used to. That way it shows a different side to the music that I am making. How different was the creative process with making an album as a solo artist in comparison to making an album with your group [Jonas Brothers]? It took a WHILE! I wanted to really spend time on this album - to take my time to make sure I made music that I was really proud of; that I wasn‘t holding back from anything necessarily. I didn‘t want to just rush this album at all so I was very pleased with taking the time, and really finding the sound that I wanted to go with. There‘s been some times with my brothers that we‘ve done some things and really just rushed them, like making records quickly and I wanted to take my time with this one.

Have your brothers been supportive of your solo career? My brothers have been very supportive. They‘re incredible and I‘m really thankful for the fact that they‘re happy for me to take my time and do my thing, it‘s the best feeling. Throughout your music career you‘ve also been dipping your toe into a bit of acting, is this something that you would like to do more of in the future? Yes I would love to; I really enjoy doing movie roles or acting roles. I‘m actually working on a project with a friend of mine out in LA, we‘ve just got a writer involved so it‘s very very exciting. I‘ve got a few plans for next year – at the beginning of the year I may be making this movie that I‘m thinking about creating and then I think what it‘s looking like right now is that we may try and do a world tour of some sort and definitely make more music. I‘ll definitely be coming back soon to do my own tour – I‘m not exactly sure when but it‘s in the works. If everything goes to plan with your solo career would that mean you would have to put the Jonas Brothers on hold? No we‘re still going to be doing Jonas Brothers stuff, nothing yet is plan, no specific stuff for when we‘re going to make our next album, we‘re just taking our time with it. My brothers are doing their own individual things – Nick is going to be on Broadway next year so we may end up making music in New York but it all depends on what our schedules look like. Finally, what sort of music are you enjoying at the moment? Any artists that you would like to champion? You know what, I‘m really liking One Directions stuff. I think they‘re doing a great job and their stuff sounds really great so I can definitely see myself checking out more of their music. As well as them I love all different kinds of music, I love dance music, I love pop music, I love a lot that DJs are doing. I think Pixie Lott‘s new stuff is great. To get inspiration I pull from all different types of music, everything from dance music to hip-hop music, you name it, I probably listen to it! I always try to pull from all of those different influences and experiences for inspiration.

JJJJ.. JESSIE J Jessie J cleaned up in Glasgow, winning an amazing 4 MOBO Awards. Kicking off the ceremony, Jessie appeared in her doc martins, trademark figure hugging leggings, glittery baseball cap and matching purple lips, top & hair to perform her No1 single, Do It like A Dude. First up for Jessie was Best Album, where a shocked Jessie said: ―I didn‘t expect to win this at all. I just want to say the biggest thank you to my fans because last year I watched this show , by myself, in my livingroom and no one knew who I was, and now I just won best album…thank you everyone.‖ Best Newcomer was Jessie‘s second win of the night. Taking to the stage (limping slightly) in a black and gold catsuit, Jessie appeared genuinely shocked and humbled by her win, paying homage to her fellow nominees, saying: ―Can I just firstly say how amazing that category is and every single artist in there deserves this.‖ She added: ―Thank you to my label, my management, everyone who has a part of making my dreams my reality, and thank you to my heartbeats – you rock so hard..This one‘s for you.‖ Appearing visibly shocked and overwhelmed Jessie thanked her parents as she accepted the award for Best Song, saying: ―There are so many people I want to thank but there are two people who mean more than anything to me and that‘s my mum and dad. Without them I wouldn‘t be the person that I am or write the songs that I write, so thank you for letting me be comfortable with who I am.‖

20

And in true Jessie style she added: ―So if they play do it like a dude later at the party, just get your dicks out and just have a good time.‖ Last but not least, Jessie won Best UK Act. Taking fellow nominee Tinie Tempah by the hand and dragging him to the stage with her, Jessie said how proud she is to be British and to make music that she can give to the world as a gift. Adding: ―It‘s been 10 months of my life and how many do I have…four…seriously… I have no words right now but artists like Tinie have made me want it even more, I‘ve watched him set the standard and I‘m like 10 steps behind.‖ ―I just want to say that Amy Winehouse set the example and standard for British female artists…lets all stand up for Amy.. this one‘s for her.‖

C

ongratulations on the new single -

are you pleased with the response so far? "I'm very happy! A lot of people said I went off the map for a while, but it was more of a break from the media spotlight - I've been running around the whole of London doing shows and producing for other people. I was growing, developing and learning my artistry."

So this is the proper start to the album campaign now? "The gaps between singles will be a little bit smaller now hopefully! I've got perfectionist issues as I can't seem to let tracks out the studio - it drives my manager nuts. With 'Earthquake', the operatic monk chorus bit was added in at the last second. My friend dared me to put it in so I did it. Nobody thought it was going to work." Were the royal trumpets a last-minute addition too? "Haha, that was too! I use my manager as a soundboard because he used to be a DJ, but even he thought that idea was mad at first. I like doing stuff like that because it puts my personality and character out there."

24

MUSIC

T

he track features Tinie Tempah - are you

hoping to recreate the success of 'Pass Out'? "We have great chemistry in the studio and on stage so it seemed like good idea. I don't ever think it's a good idea to try to recreate the success you've had before; it's all about chasing something fresh and new. I want to focus on making good music, and anything else that happens is a bonus." Has Simon Cowell heard the album yet? "He has, but because it's taken me so long to finish he admitted that he wasn't expecting it! Me and Simon aren't the closet in the world - and I'm sure he'll want to be closer to me if I become more successful - but he's a good guy. Every once in a while he gives me a little nugget of advice. He always pushes for the very best." Will the album have many features on it? "There will be some features, but it's developing at the moment. Now people have heard 'Earthquake' the offers are starting to come in - that's how it works in this industry. Some very, very cool artists have offered, but I don't want to spoil it yet!" Are there any guest features that will surprise us? "Definitely! I'm all for trying anything once, otherwise you end up like David Guetta - reproducing the same formula over and over. It's like McDonald's - it's a factory where you know what experience you're going to get - and some people love that. I'm all about gourmet; you never know what flavour you're going to taste, so just enjoy it!"

Are you a fan of this year's X Factor? We know you're a big supporter of rising talent... "There have been a lot of good singers on it this year. It used to be comical to me - it could have been on Comedy Central! Seriously though, this year they've had a lot of good talent coming through." Given that you're on SyCo's books, have any of the X Factor judges approached you to work with them yet? "I worked with Tulisa [Contostavlos] on the Children In Need single, and I remember her saying that she was very nervous about how she would be received on the show. She's a very straightforward person with an urban background and not everyone likes that. She's a lot happier now the reaction has been positive. It was a nice surprise to be asked by Gary [Barlow] to produce the song - everyone left their egos at the door and the whole thing felt very healthy." The song is a remix of Massive Attack's 'Teardrops'; were you nervous re-working such a well-known track? "I love that record - it sells itself! I didn't want to fiddle with it too much because you can't spoil a record like that. Eventually we found a way around it - the finished version sounds great." Labrinth's 'Earthquake' is out October 23, and includes remixes from Benny Benassi and Noisia. His debut album follows next year.

DYRT‘S 1 TO WATCH Singer/Songwriter Kate McGill Plymouth singer-songwriter Kate McGill hadn't the faintest clue what she was letting herself in for when at age 17, she uploaded her first video to YouTube, but fast-forward four years and the talented self-taught musician has now racked up over 128,000 subscribers and uploaded 100 videos.

DYRT caught up with Kate just before she set off of her UK tour and released her debut single, Replaced. For people who‘ve never heard of you, how would you describe yourself and who you are as an artist? I‘d say I‘m someone who‘s very organic and home grown. I haven‘t gone down the giging route, I‘ve done it all myself through YouTube and a very small team. I‘ve quite shy when it comes to it, I love singing and writing but the actual gig aspect of it isn‘t my friend (laughing) You got to this point in your career using a less than conventional route—adding video‘s to YouTube—what made you do that? Tell us a bit about your journey so far? I had recently got a new keyboard, as had previously been using my dads old one, and wanted to show my friends that I could play and sing a song, so decided to record and upload it to YouTube so they could all see it. It was genuinely just for fun at first..I had no idea what YouTube could really do, that someone on the other side of the world would see my video.

26

It wasn‘t until I started getting YouTube comments that I realised WOW people are watching what I‘m doing, then in summer 2008 my manager Charlie got in touch ..it was quite funny as I had initially ignored him as I wasn‘t sure if he was for real or taking the mick.. Thankfully he was persistent. That year I also entered a competition to open for Lady Hawke in London.. At that point I realised I was going to leave uni, where I was studying theatre and performance, to pursue music as a career. How did your family feel about you leaving university to attempt a career in music? I‘ve been very lucky in the fact that my parents have always supported me. I was expecting them to be like ―Oh you‘ve quit uni blah blah‖, but they haven‘t, they‘ve been amazing. You‘ve said previously that you love the YouTube platform as there is no middle man, it‘s just you and your fans. Do you worry that now you‘re a signed artist you‘ll lose that? No because right at the beginning I made a point of saying that I always wanted to be the one writing on my twitter, YouTube etc—I always want to be in direct contact with my fans. I‘m never going to lose that, it‘s too important to me. It‘s the best part of what I‘ve done and how I‘ve got here, getting to chat with individual people, seeing what they do and don‘t like. I‘ve created a really close relationship with the people who‘ve supported me and in a way, its like they get to know me and when we meet at gigs I recognise them. I really, really value that aspect of things and don‘t ever want to compromise that. You‘ve just shot the video for your debut single, Replaced.. How was that for you? It was a very nerve racking thing, I don‘t mind singing but video‘s aren't‘ my forte..It was an amazing but slightly strange experience, laughs Kate, but I‘m really happy with it. I had a lot of input into the concept and we all worked together to make it amazing.

INTERVIEW Tell us a bit about your album? I started co-writing towards the end of 2008 and recorded in LA with music writers such Ted Bruner (Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Kesha) and Curt Schneider, who has written songs for folk artist Lissie. They were so amazing to work with, they took my ideas on board and really listened to me. It wasn‘t just a hit making factory which I‘ve heard happens a lot..They really helped to make it easy. The album has a new sound to it. I wanted it to be easy to listen to but be pop music with a twist..I‘d describe it as having detailed, intricate, interesting tracks. Is there advice that you would give to other arising artists or people aiming to start a solo career? I‘d, obviously, advise them down the YouTube route. It‘s so easy and because there‘s no middleman, you don‘t get told how to write it or what to look like. You can just be yourself and can literally upload a video from your bedroom.

“I didn’t even know

what a subscriber was.” “I didn’t think anyone other than the people I showed it to would ever see it.”

Replaced is out now and available as a limited edition CD from Caffe Nero and as a digital download from iTunes.

Technology Steven Paul Jobs, 56, died Wednesday

October 5th at his home

with his family. The co-founder and, until last August, CEO of Apple Inc was the most celebrated person in technology. No one will take issue with the official Apple statement that ―The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.‖ more so when you think about what Steve brought to the world - the Apple II, the Macintosh, the movie studio Pixar, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad. The most of the world woke up on Thursday 6th October without even realising who or how important Steve Jobs was. But Jobs certainly knew it all along. A copy of his death certificate, which was made public on Monday, October 10, indicated he died about 3 p.m. on October 5 and listed respiratory arrest as the immediate cause of death, with metastatic pancreas neuroendocrine tumor" as the underlying cause. His occupation was listed as "entrepreneur" in the "high tech" business .

Technology says services 'fully restored' Blackberry's founder Mike Lazaridis has said services are "fully restored" following a three-day global blackout. Millions of customers worldwide had their messaging and email service disrupted with many turning to Twitter to express their anger. In a press conference at 15:00 BST, Mr Lazaridis said the company would now begin a full investigation of what happened. He apologised again for the problems customers had experienced. "We know we've let many of you down. You expect more from us. I expect more from us," he said. The firm admitted that it was the largest crash it had ever experienced. Prior to the 2011 problems, the last significant blackout was in 2009. Users began to report loss of services mid-morning on 10 October and the problems spread around the world. Robin Bienfait, chief information officer of RIM, the Canada-based owner of Blackberry, issued an apology for the ongoing issues, following complaints that the firm was not informing users about the situation. "You've depended on us for reliable, real-time communications, and right now we're letting you down. We are taking this very seriously and have people around the world working around the clock to address this situation," he said on Wednesday. RIM blamed the ongoing issues on a backlog of emails to Europe from Asia and the Americas. The server problems are believed to have originated at RIM's UK data centre in Slough.

Such a major failure will come as unwelcome news to RIM, which has been losing market share to smartphone rivals - in particular Apple's iPhone. Many corporate clients have switched to the device after Apple made a concerted effort to improve its support for secure business email systems. Malik Saadi, principal analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media, said the timing of the outages was bad for RIM. "The current situation with the Blackberry outages couldn't come at a worse time for RIM, following some harsh criticism in recent months," he said. Such crashes may lead RIM and others to "re-evaluate their reliance on centralised servers and instead look to investing in more corporately controlled servers", he added. But he thinks customers will stick with the firm despite current frustrations. "It will take more than just a couple of collapses to persuade loyal consumers of Blackberry services to look for alternatives," he said.

The "issues" left many Blackberry owners only able to text and make calls.

Arteta - I can't replace Cesc Midfielder won't try and do things the same way as Fabregas

Sport

Mikel Arteta believes it would be wrong for him to try and emulate the achievements of former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas. Fabregas blossomed into one of the Premier League's brightest stars during his time with the Gunners before sealing a dream return to boyhood club Barcelona over the summer. Having also lost Samir Nasri to Manchester City, Arsene Wenger was in need of creative reinforcements as the transfer window drew to a close and swooped for Everton's Arteta just before the deadline. Arteta has made a promising start to his Emirates Stadium career but knows his limitations and does not feel there is any chance of him performing to the same level as Fabregas. "I am not here to replace Cesc and I would be wrong to try that," said Arteta, who will try and help Arsenal recover from a poor start to the season in his own way. "Cesc was the best player at Arsenal and one of the top three in the entire Premier League.

Stress While Arsenal are currently beneath Everton in the Premier League table, Arteta has no regrets about his summer switch as he felt it was the right thing for his career. Recalling the events of 31st August, he said "There was a lot of stress and uncertainty on deadline day. At three o'clock, I thought I was an Arsenal player then, at 6pm, it was all off. "At 8.30, the move was back on again but there was no time for me to have a medical.

"I have no aim to become that. My target is simply to try to reach my highest level as a player and to help the team.

"I went to Arsenal's offices and told them they had to trust me. "Then, at 11.10, when they were registering my transfer with the Premier League, the fax machine broke down.

"Cesc was at Arsenal for seven years. I have been here for a few weeks. If I try to be equal to or better than him, I would be confusing myself.

"Thankfully, everything went well in the end. "David Moyes understood my situation with Everton. When we got the offer from Arsenal on August 31, he looked into my eyes and said, 'You want to go, don't you?'

"We're different personalities with a different style. I must find my own way to do well for Arsenal."

"I told him this was my big chance and that the club would be getting a big cash injection by selling me, so it was best for both parties." 38

Beckham - Family matters most Ex-England skipper flattered to be

Sport

linked with PSG move "There are great things happening in France at several clubs, but it's an exciting time for PSG... Leonardo joining them, the money the club has, so it's an interesting club." Beckham and former pop star wife Victoria recently had their fourth child and he is adamant his family's considerations will be paramount in deciding where to go next, with clubs from Brazil and the Middle East also reportedly interested.

David Beckham says he is flattered to be wanted by Paris St Germain, but says the happiness of his family will dictate his next move. The former England captain's contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy expires at the end of the Major League Soccer season and Beckham has yet to make a decision on his future. PSG are keen to bring the ex-Manchester United midfielder to France, while the likes of Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with offers for the 36-year-old. Beckham has worked previously with PSG sporting director Leonardo during his two loan spells at AC Milan and has been keeping a close eye on happenings in the French capital. Exciting time He told sports.fr: "I had a good relationship with him when I was in Milan the first time and also when he was manager the second time.

"This (the family) is the number one priority, family comes first and where they are happy is where I stay, it's that simple," he added. "My children go to school in LA and have done for five years. They are at the age where stability is important, so we'll see. I always said I will wait until the end of the season, see how I feel physically and then decide. "There is no urgency on my part obviously. It is important that I focus on the rest of the season. "We should make the play-offs, we still have two matches to go and I will focus on the season and worry about the rest later."

"He's a great sporting director and a wonderful person. I'm flattered that he wants me to come join him and the team in Paris, but I'm a Galaxy player, I live in Los Angeles, I am happy there and I play for them.

Adam - Final ask too much Midfielder believes Scotland will be better prepared for 2014 push

Charlie Adam admits Scotland left it too late to push for a Euro 2012 play-off berth, with a meeting with Spain too big a hurdle to overcome. Craig Levein's men entered their final qualification fixture on Tuesday sat second in Group I. They were, however, aware that they really needed to take something from a meeting with reigning European and world champions Spain in order to hang on to that standing. In the end they slipped to a 3-1 defeat and tumbled to third as the Czech Republic saw off Lithuania. Liverpool midfielder Adam concedes that Scotland left themselves with too much to do in Alicante, with previous results having held them back. He is of the opinion, though, that plenty of positives can be taken from the campaign heading into the race to the 2014 World Cup. "If we are honest with ourselves we left it too late," he said. "It's tough going to places like Spain and trying to get three points. They are the world champions and it is difficult. "But you have to take the positives. We created chances and scored a goal. I think we will be a better team when the qualifiers for Brazil come around." Adam admits it will be difficult to watch another major tournament pass without Scotland being involved, but he believes it is only a matter of time before they return to that level.

Sport Baggies in for Scottish starlet West Brom check on former Hamilton man. West Bromwich Albion have apparently joined the chase for Scottish starlet David Hopkirk. The 18year-old free agent is currently training with the Premier League club. The Scottish youth international left Hamilton by mutual consent earlier this season, and now a host of clubs are battling for his signature.

Dunne wary of Estonia Republic veteran warns against complacency. Republic of Ireland defender Richard Dunne is refusing to take Estonia lightly after being paired with them in their Euro 2012 play-off. Estonia, who are making their first appearance in the play-offs, finished second to Italy in Group C, while the Republic took runners-up spot in Group B. However, Dunne insists the Republic of Ireland cannot be complacent before the two-legged tie. "There is a lot of people probably saying that's the best draw we could have got, but as we have seen in our group Armenia and these countries are all getting better each time they play so we know it is going to be difficult," said Dunne. "But we believed whoever we played we have got a good chance and we have proved hard to beat over the last while so hopefully we can take that in and finally qualify." 40

Bojan loving Roma life

Sport

Spanish star unsure if he will return to Barca Bojan has expressed his delight at how quickly he has settled into his new surroundings at Roma following a summer move from Barcelona. Bojan made the move to Italy in July after struggling to establish himself as a regular starter in Pep Guardiola's star-studded Barca side. He has made an impressive start to life at the Stadio Olimpico and scored his first Roma goal in the 31 victory over Atalanta at the weekend. "From the first day I felt at home with the fans who have supported me a lot, so the goal scored against Atalanta is for them," the 21-year-old told Mundo Deportivo. "I feel protected and very pampered, it's like at Barcelona. The difference is that here the fans will show affection with more warmth." Bojan is not sure what the long-term future holds in store for him, after Barcelona inserted a buy-back clause in the deal agreed with Roma allowing them the option to re-sign him for â‚Ź13million before the end of the 2012/13 season.

Pep won't sign long-term deal Barca boss reluctant to commit on long-term Basis... Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola says he does not want to be tied down on a long-term contract at Camp Nou because he needs to feel free to decide his future. The 40-year-old was promoted from Barcelona's B team in June 2008 to replace Frank Rijkaard at the helm of the senior side. Since then Guardiola has extended his contract with the reigning Spanish and European champions on a year-by-year basis, with his current deal due to expire next June. The coach told Catalan sports daily Sport: "Listen, every day I think that tomorrow I am leaving. "When you manage something, you have to always think that tomorrow you could go. "I work better if I think I have the freedom to decide my future. Being tied to a contract for a long time makes me anxious and that can make you lose your passion." After going two years without any silverware, Barcelona have won three Primera Liga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies since Guardiola took charge.

Latest Rugby News Priestland blow for Wales

Sport

Fly-half replaced by Hook in starting XV Wales fly-half Rhys Priestland will miss the World Cup semi-final clash with France after losing his race against time to be fit. Priestland will be replaced by James Hook at Eden Park on Saturday after he failed to recover from the shoulder injury he suffered in the final minutes of the quarter-final victory over Ireland in Wellington. Priestland was given as long as possible to recover but he is still needs to undergo rehabilitation over the next few days.

Robinson retains SRU support. Head coach will keep job after early World Cup exit Scottish Rugby Union chief executive Mark Dodson has thrown his full support behind Scotland head coach Andy Robinson following the team's Rugby World Cup exit.

"Time was against Rhys," said Wales coach Warren Gatland, who has also named Stephen Jones on the bench.

England's 16-12 win over Robinson's men in Auckland and Argentina's 25-7 defeat of Georgia confirmed Scotland's third place in Pool B, meaning they have failed to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time.

"But we are happy that we have the talent and ability elsewhere in the squad to cover him.

Speaking in Auckland, Dodson said: "Andy knows full well what went wrong over here. He will go back, talk to his coaching group and I think he's going to look at the players and the ways in which we can be more successful going forward.

But Robinson, who earlier this year signed a contract extension until after the 2015 World Cup in England and believes he can turn Scotland into the northern hemisphere's leading nation, has Dodson's backing.

World champion lets his hair down after Japan event

Sebastian Vettel has admitted to paying a heavy price for a rare strategic mistake this season. Vettel naturally let his hair down on Sunday night in Suzuka in the wake of becoming the youngest back-to-back and two-time champion in Formula One history. The 24-year-old even belted out Beatles classics 'Hey Jude' and 'Yellow Submarine', as well as Frank Sinatra's 'My Way' on the karaoke as the drinks flowed. However, it was when seven-times champion and close friend Michael Schumacher turned up that Vettel's night took a turn for the worse. "After the race there were a lot of things to do, but once we got beyond that, and once I found myself in the bar with the boys, we enjoyed that night very much," said Vettel. Accent "We had a very good time, did some karaoke, and it was a very good night, very special. "After a couple of drinks everyone was quite happy, and then some time in the night Michael came as well and we had a couple more drinks together. "I think after he came I felt much worse as I started mixing a bit, which wasn't the best strategy, but all in all it was a fun night.

It was not until Tuesday, and after finally getting rid of his hangover, that Vettel began to appreciate what he had achieved. "At the sponsor's event I wasn't as fit as usual maybe, I was still quite tired," added Vettel with a grin, ahead of this weekend's Korean Grand Prix. "But then on Tuesday I had a bit of time for myself, allowed myself to let things sink in a little more. "Obviously there's a big difference compared to how I won the title last year when we did it in the last minute. "We always kept believing, getting it done at the very end. We never led the championship until after that race. "This year it has been a different story, leading from start to finish."

"The funny thing is, I'm usually in control when it comes to not showing my German accent too much. "But after a couple of drinks it was quite obvious where I come from." The after effects were still being felt the following day, despite a sponsorship engagement in Tokyo.
