WINTER2025
GREECE - CYPRUS - LONDON - MONTE CARLO
Starting 2025 with Gratitude
The new year is always a springboard for new beginnings, goals, and expectations. However, before we dive into the next chapter of our lives, it’s important to pause and reflect on all we have accomplished so far. Gratitude is the first step towards a successful path to the future. A grateful mindset allows us to recognise the challenges we have overcome, the battles we have fought, and the achievements we have made, both big and small, and appreciate them for the lessons they have taught us.
We may feel that the past year was full of difficulties or failures, but every experience has provided us with valuable lessons. These lessons are what have shaped us and brought us to where we are today. By acknowledging and appreciating all we have achieved, the next step is goal-setting. The new year offers us an opportunity to make plans for the future, set new goals, and express our desires.
The combination of gratitude for the past and positive thinking for the future helps us start the new year with confidence and hope. Instead of focusing on what we didn’t achieve, let’s focus on the possibilities ahead of us and work to make our wishes a reality.
Happy New Year 2025!

Sensuality Craftsmanship
Timeless elegance
The collection, designed by Nadège Vanhee, draws inspiration from equestrian and motorbike themes. Vanhee’s “Bikeuse Équestre” outfits featured cowboy boots with cropped leather pants and moto boots with skirts or dresses. Investment-worthy leather outerwear dominated, from equestrian jackets to pieces with shaved-shearling collars and ostrich feather embroidery. Vanhee ventured into bold, sexy designs with ribbed leather leggings and studded pencil skirts, balanced by softer, printed silk dresses. The collection blended sensuality, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance.

Irene Vantaraki
INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS STRATEGIST
“Α
Mastermind Behind Global Networking”
Irene Vantaraki is a pioneering entrepreneur and lobbyist whose vision and determination have earned her international recognition. As the driving force behind "Monaco Day" and the "Greek House" in Davos during the World Economic Forum, Irene has gained a reputation for organizing high-profile events that foster dialogue, innovation, and collaboration. As a single mother who raised her son on her own, Irene's story is one of resilience and perseverance. Through hard work, she managed to establish a successful company that hosts world-class events at the Davos Lodge, bringing together global leaders, politicians, and innovators to tackle critical challenges. Her leadership in organizing “Monaco Day” reflects her commitment to creating platforms that blend economic excellence, sustainability, and technological advancement. Her passion for meaningful discussions and transformative solutions makes her a dynamic figure and an expert in International Affairs Strategy. As she says with the quote by Theodore Roethke: "What we need are more people who specialize in the impossible." Irene shares with us her journey, the challenges she has faced, and her goals for the future, offering a unique insight into the values and philosophy that guide her work and life.

«What we need are more people who specialize in the impossible»
Π
■ How was the idea for Greek House Davos born, and what was the biggest obstacle you faced?
The idea for Greek House Davos was born from a deep personal reflection on the direction we want to take for the future of Greece and the next generations. The need to reshape Greece’s image internationally and strengthen its economic position became my goal as well. Through my travels, I observed entrenched perceptions of our country, often seen as economically weak despite its cultural richness. The biggest obstacle was overcoming these stereotypes. The current reality shows that some companies wield more power than certain nations. This raises concerns about Greece's position on the global stage. Greece needs to strengthen economically while addressing environmental and geopolitical challenges, particularly the environmental crisis that will impact the Mediterranean over the next 30 years. At the same time, it must preserve its identity as a bridge between East and West. Greek House aims to promote a resilient Greece, confident and wise in facing modern challenges.
■ How does Greek House Davos operate, and what is its vision?
Greek House is a successful international organization that, once again, will bring together prominent business leaders with a focus on Greek issues. However, its distinction is twofold, as it has emerged as one of the most influential business hubs at the annual Davos conference. Its success lies primarily in the exceptional individuals who participate and contribute to the development of innovative approaches and solutions to global issues. Furthermore, the true vision driving Greek House strengthens its ability to influence international developments. By creating a platform where leaders can exchange ideas, Greek House facilitates the dissemination of Greek ideas and culture while simultaneously promoting the Greek economy on a global scale.
«The biggest challenge was overcoming the stereotypes associated with my gender and managing doubt»
■ Monaco Day: What is the main vision behind organizing this event in Davos?
Monaco Day combines Monaco's ambition with its commitment to shaping a better future. The vision is to position Monaco as a dynamic hub of financial leadership, sustainable innovation, and global collaboration. The event highlights Monaco's strategic role in addressing global challenges—whether in finance, sustainability, energy, or technological advancements—while strengthening its influence as a center of innovation, culture, and luxury.
■ What were the key milestones in your career, and how did they shape you?
From a very young age, I felt a strong desire for independence and autonomy, and continuous learning has always played a central role in my life. At the age of 19, I combined my studies with working in the family office of a major shipping family, where I worked alongside the vice president. I consider this experience to have defined my professional profile for an international career, offering me knowledge and skills I could not have gained elsewhere. Amid the challenges and difficulties of the work environment, I found a space to grow and improve, building the future I had always dreamed of.
■ What is the biggest challenge you have faced as a woman in a male-dominated field like lobbying?
The biggest challenge was overcoming the stereotypes associated with my gender and managing doubt. I had to constantly prove my worth through hard work, knowledge, and professionalism. However, these difficulties made me more resilient and determined to achieve my goals and earn respect. Women have made progress in terms of equality and independence, but we still face challenges and stereotypes rooted in past eras.
■
«Success in the professional world never comes suddenly, and there is certainly no magic key to unlock it. For me, success means having access to numerous opportunities in our career»
■ You communicate and collaborate with internationally renowned entrepreneurs. Can you share the unique qualities of some personalities?
Throughout my extensive career, I have had the great honor of meeting many significant personalities, but none has left as profound an impression on my heart as Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. Dedicated to peace, ecology, and the unity of Churches, his work transcends religious boundaries, influencing societal issues. With wisdom and humility, he unites diverse religious traditions, serving as a model of leadership and a source of inspiration for all. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to stand by him and learn from his gentle yet powerful presence.
Georgette Moshaba-
■ What are the keys to success? Would you like to share an example from your own life?
Success in the professional world never comes suddenly, and there is certainly no magic key to unlock it. For me, success means having access to numerous opportunities in our career. After years of hard work and effort, we can confidently say that a professional path has stabilized. However, we are fully aware that nothing is guaranteed, and our struggle to stand out on the international stage is ongoing. Our experience from our offices in Switzerland has proven to be crucial, as it has opened the door to a global market and secured the international recognition we sought. This recognition is not the result of chance, but a product of hard work and relentless persistence. The need for continuous development is imperative, as conditions in the global market are constantly changing.
■ Which women do you admire and why?
I admire two women immensely. First, Georgette Moshabaher, founder of La Prairie, diplomat, and successful entrepreneur, who combined the business sector with international diplomacy. She possesses all the qualities I admire in a woman: sharpness, leadership, justice, and a love for life. The second is the wife of a leading entrepreneur, who together with her husband, has built a vast empire, and is the driving force behind his success.
These two women, with their unique contributions, showcase the strength and complexity of the female nature.
■ How does a woman, a single mother, manage to succeed in such a demanding professional field?
The strength of a mother is unique—she builds a bridge of resilience with every challenge she faces and crosses it with love and determination. A mother raising her child alone can succeed in a demanding professional field by drawing from her inner strength, setting proper priorities, and treating every obstacle as a lesson. My ability to balance roles with grace and persistence is a daily testament to this strength. Finally, my deep faith in God helps me view life as a miracle.

Interview: Fotini Androulaki
LaCividina
Bridging Heritage and Modernity in Italian Design
In the world of premium design, Fulvio Bulfoni stands as a passionate custodian of tradition and a visionary leader shaping the future. As the second-generation President of LaCividina, Fulvio continues the legacy of the company founded in 1976 by his father, Carlo Bulfoni, in Martignacco, nestled in Italy's Udine province. What began as an artisanal upholstery workshop has flourished under Fulvio’s guidance into a global symbol of contemporary design excellence. In this exclusive interview, Fulvio reflects on LaCividina’s journey—from its artisanal roots to its position as a pioneer in luxury furniture design. A defining moment for Fulvio was the riediction of Pierre Paulin’s iconic sofa, maintaining the purity of its sixties and seventies aesthetics while infusing it with a modern sensibility. Such endeavors exemplify LaCividina’s commitment to preserving design heritage while embracing innovation. With its creations adorning prestigious spaces like Van Cleef & Arpels in Paris, Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello, Louis Vuitton show rooms, Google’s Mountain View campus and very modern design homes and apartments. LaCividina epitomizes the artistry of “Made in Italy.” Each piece reflects an unwavering dedication to quality, attention to detail, and sustainable craftsmanship. Now showcased at their breathtaking Milan showroom in Palazzo Borromeo d’Adda, LaCividina’s iconic collections reaffirm the brand’s core values: timeless beauty, perfect form, and eco-conscious design. Fulvio’s leadership encapsulates the delicate balance of honoring the past while daring to redefine the future, making LaCividina a benchmark in global design.
The Osaka sofa, created in 1967 by the genius of Pierre Paulin and reissued in 2013 by LaCividina, was once again among the protagonists of a design that still simply enchants
■ LaCividina has a rich history rooted in design excellence. What inspired your father and how has his vision shaped its growth? My father, started as a prototype producer collaborating with leading designers of global importance. His vision integrated design philosophy and technical exploration, emphasizing culture and production experience. Growing up in this environment, I absorbed design values naturally, shaping LaCividina’s evolution into a hub of creativity and craftsmanship.
■ How do you define design in the context of your work?
Design is not just about aesthetics; it’s a cultural experience requiring time, experimentation, and collaboration. It involves problem-solving, innovation, and deeply understanding the unique characteristics of each designer. For us, design embodies both philosophy and technical expertise, making it an integral part of our DNA.

laboratory and transformed it into a global brand, blending innovation and ambition. I decided to leverage the know-how and production experience and take our brand directly to the market. This pivotal step marked a significant turning point for us.
■ Did you intended to run the family business?
I studied economics, with no initial intention to run the family business or become a designer. My passion was sports, which taught me discipline, goal setting, and focus. I joined my father’s small prototype
■ How you combine tradition and innovation?
We combine tradition and innovation by respecting the legacy of great designers like Pierre Paulin, who taught us that design must be simple, timeless, and functional. While honoring these principles, we embrace innovation by collaborating with both renowned and young designers, fostering creativity and ensuring each project balances history
The first LaCividina showroom in the heart of Milan. The design and culture inside the beautiful halls of Palazzo Borromeo d’Adda, in
with contemporary relevance. So, when we start to follow a designer, we follow him for 2 or 3 years before we offer him our projects. Living in the period that the fast is the must for mass we recognize that is necessary to give time. Quality is to give time. Time is a quite expensive thing.
■
■ What do you believe that sets Italian design apart on the global stage?
And how does LaCivdina embody these qualities?
It is our history. It is in our DNA to recognize beauty. However, speaking about international design, it is important to have the ability to open to different cultures. We collaborate with talented designers from all over the world, creating a blend of cultures. This fusion of tradition, technical expertise, and cultural diversity defines our approach to creating timeless and high-quality designs.
■ Sustainability is becoming increasingly important. Beyond certifications, how does LACividina innovate to create eco-friendly products?
At LaCividina, sustainability begins with people. As the owners of the company, my wife and me, and especially my wife, have a goal to reach: to make our people’s life at work, enjoyable. Our factory is designed to ensure a healthy and comfortable environment, aligning with our human-centered philosophy. Of course, we meticulously select materials, prioritizing those from circular processes, ensuring that our products are recyclable at the end of their life.

How Negativity Bias Affects Our Career
TThink about a recent event at work: a meeting where you received positive feedback for your efforts or, on the other hand, experienced failure or criticism. Which one stands out more in your mind? If it’s the negative, you’re not alone. The brain's tendency to emphasize negative events is known as negativity bias.
By Valentina Kordi, Mindset & High-Performance Coach for Entrepreneurs, Executives and Teams Speaker & Author

doubt, diminishes satisfaction, and can heighten burnout, even when women objectively achieve outstanding results.
In fact, a 2018 observational study with 1,056 participants published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences (Bianchi et al., 2018) revealed a direct link between negativity bias in cognitive interpretation and symptoms of burnout and depression.
Negativity bias refers to the human brain’s natural tendency to give more weight to negative experiences over positive ones. While this bias was evolutionarily useful—helping us identify and avoid danger—today, in a professional environment, it can erode confidence, increase stress, and reduce career satisfaction. Women in leadership roles often face heightened expectations and stereotypes while balancing professional and personal responsibilities. Negativity bias can worsen these challenges, leading to an overfocus on failures and undervaluing successes. It fosters self-
Ma na g in g N eg a t ivi t y B ia s w it h C ou nt erf a c t u a l T h i n k i n g A powerful technique, grounded in cognitive psychology, to overcome negativity bias is Counterfactual Thinking. This method uses comparisons with hypothetical scenarios to help the brain appreciate the positive aspects of a current situation.
How It Works
• Reframe the situation: When facing a negative event, consider an alternative version where things could have been worse. For example: “If I hadn’t closed this deal, we would have lost a major client.”
• Focus on what went well: Even if the outcome wasn’t perfect, highlight the positives. For ex-
ample: “Despite project delays, we successfully completed it. Now we can calmly identify areas for improvement in coordination.”
• Look forward with positivity: Use the experience to reinforce confidence: “If I managed this difficult situation, I can handle future challenges too.”
Why It Helps
Counterfactual Thinking retrains the brain to focus on the positive aspects of experiences, reducing the emotional weight of negative ones. It fosters gratitude and self-recognition, encouraging a mindset that sees opportunities in every challenge. Professional life is full of obstacles, but tools like Counterfactual Thinking can help balance negativity bias and shift focus toward successes. After all, career satisfaction depends not just on events, but on how you interpret them. Ironically, the higher you rise in the hierarchy, the stricter you become in categorizing events as negative—spotting only flaws and imperfections. By reframing these thoughts, you can rediscover satisfaction and strength in your career journey.

Rosacea / Ροδόχρους Νόσος
What It Is and How to Treat It
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that manifests primarily with redness and visible blood vessels (telangiectasia) on the face. It is accompanied by skin hypersensitivity and commonly affects central areas of the face, such as the nose, cheeks, and forehead. It occurs mainly in women aged 30–50 years and often presents with periods of flare-ups and remission.
Dr. Voutsakis Emm. Nikolaos,
/ Dermatologist–Venereologist
45893616
Symptoms of Rosacea
Symptoms vary from person to person. In the early stages, mild redness is observed, which becomes more pronounced over time. Visible blood vessels, bumps, and small red pimples with or without pus may appear. In some cases, the eyes may be affected, causing irritation, swelling, red eyelids, and a burning sensation (ocular rosacea). Lesions may also develop in other areas, such as the neck or ears.
Types of Rosacea
There are three main types:
• Erythe matote langiectat ic Rosacea : Characterized by redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels.
• Papulopustular Rosacea: Includes swelling and acnelike lesions.
• Ocular Rosacea: Presents with eye irritation and swollen eyelids.
Causes and Risk Factors
The exact causes remain unclear, but a combination of genetic and environmental factors is suspected. Individuals with fair, thin skin are particularly prone, especially if they have been overexposed to the sun.
Additionally, skin parasites such as Demodex and bacteria such as Helicobacter pylori may be linked to its development. Trigger factors include alcohol, hot drinks, spicy foods, stress, smoking, and exposure to extreme temperatures.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Diagnosis is primarily clinical, performed by a dermatologist. In some cases, additional tests, such as a biopsy or testing for Demodex, may be required. Treatment includes topical medications (metronidazole, azelaic acid) and, in more advanced stages, oral antibiotics or isotretinoin. Persistent redness and visible blood vessels are treated with laser or IPL. Proper sun protection throughout the year is essential.
Tips
• Use sunscreen daily.
• Avoid alcohol, spicy foods, and hot drinks.
• Limit stress and smoking.
• Choose products without alcohol or irritating ingredients.
Early diagnosis and proper care can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals with rosacea.

The Modern Approach to Breast Disease Diagnosis and Treatment
/
Breast cancer is currently the most common malignancy in women. However, it is a disease with very high treatment success rates, especially when diagnosed early. Early detection primarily relies on screening tests such as Digital Mammography and Breast Ultrasound, combined with clinical assessment and immediate further investigation when required. ■

■ What is the One-Stop Breast Clinic?
A modern Breast Center, like the Breast Clinic at Mediterraneo Hospital, offers advanced diagnostic and treatment methods for breast diseases. Its goal is early diagnosis and the provision of personalized therapeutic solutions to ensure the best oncological outcomes. The philosophy of the One-Stop Breast Clinic focuses on reducing the time between diagnostic steps for women presenting with breast conditions, thereby achieving a timely and accurate diagnosis. In a single visit, the patient can undergo imaging tests, evaluated by a specialized Breast Radiologist.
Following this, a Breast Surgeon performs a clinical examination and reviews the findings. If further investigation, such as a biopsy, is needed, it can be performed immediately. This approach alleviates the stress of waiting for a diagnosis and allows for the prompt initiation of treatment plans, saving valuable time.

Modern breast cancer treatment is personalized and multidisciplinary. Personalized approaches use advanced diagnostic methods, including genomic analysis, to tailor treatments to each patient. Multidisciplinary care involves a combination of surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy to achieve high survival rates and, in some cases, complete remission. The importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in creating treatment plans cannot be overstated. Decisions are made through an organized oncology board, involving specialists from all relevant medical fields. Women treated at comprehensive breast clinics, such as Mediterraneo Hospital Breast Clinic, benefit from better oncological outcomes due to state-of-the-art facilities and coordinated care. Finally, modern oncoplastic surgical techniques ensure excellent oncological results while achieving superior aesthetic outcomes, enhancing the quality of life for patients undergoing treatment.
Preventive Screening Saves Lives
Breast cancer screening should include clinical examination by specialists and imaging with mammography and ultrasound. The first mammogram is recommended at 40 years of age and should be repeated annually
Mammography: Simple, Quick, and Effective.
Mammography is a quick and simple procedure that should not cause anxiety. Recent studies suggest that taking a common pain reliever an hour before the exam can help women with sensitivity or discomfort during previous mammograms, ensuring a more relaxed experience. Women should carefully select a center with high-quality imaging technology and experienced breast radiologists for the best possible results.
■ Digital Mammography, Ultrasound, or MRI?
Ultrasound enhances mammography, particularly in detecting hidden malignancies in women with dense breasts. Combining the two methods can increase detection rates by 30–40%. Ultrasound also evaluates specific clinical or mammographic findings and monitors younger women. MRI provides additional support for atypical findings, postsurgical follow-ups, or implant evaluations. It is also recommended preoperatively in young women with breast cancer or those undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Used with mammography and ultrasound, MRI forms a robust algorithm for high-risk women in preventive screening.
■ Cutting-Edge technology at Mediterraneo Hospital
Mediterraneo Hospital employs the Senographe Pristina™ 3D Digital Mammography system with tomosynthesis, offering highly detailed imaging that distinguishes normal tissue from pathology. Supported by advanced stereotactic biopsy technology, it facilitates accurate preoperative diagnoses and procedures.
ALEXANDER CHAIRETAKIS
«Personally, I am not interested in creating works that would match the furnishings of someone's house» «Προσωπικά
Alexander Chairetakis is a painter whose works captivate with their vibrant energy and profound emotional resonance. His art is characterized by a bold use of colour, an impulsive and instinctive creative process, and a masterful incorporation of abstract elements that invite personal interpretation. Through his paintings, Chairetakis explores themes of identity, cultural heritage, and human emotion, creating a visual narrative that speaks directly to the soul. Chairetakis’ techniques are as compelling as his vision. A graduate of the Athens School of Fine Arts and Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Chairetakis draws from a diverse artistic education that informs his style. In this interview, we delve into the mind of the artist to uncover the inspirations, philosophies, and disappointment.
Interview: Argy Pappas Tsiota
■ How did your studies in Athens and abroad shape your artistic identity, and which teachers or artistic movements inspired you the most?
I was lucky to be around painters who taught me the moral part that would characterize my path in painting: to remain in the field without succumbing to the temptations of easy money by creating fake works.
■ What do you want to communicate through your works?
In my painting I am more interested in what is happening within the work, creating compositions that try to convey what I experience and perceive.
■
■ Do you believe that art should provoke an internal dialogue? Obviously! Ιf this does not happen, a false, cunning dialogue is simply created, resulting in the work itself bearing these characteristics.
■
■ Do you believe that art still has the power to change the way we see the world?
Indeed, but it must first change us, to stop being poor in spirit. Art will lead us to a world that I believe is more real and more moral than this world we have chosen to live in. But the corrosion also exists and it requires great attention and the ability to perceive art.
■ After your latest exhibition "ETERNAL MEMORIES," what can we expect next?
After my last exhibition, what I hope to do is create new works. Painting becomes interesting when it becomes a way of life, you grow and mature in it.
■ What is your opinion on the authentic expression of artists?
The Greek public does not understand painting, focusing on works for decoration or investment purposes. Artists are forced to adapt to the demands of the audience, losing their authentic expression. Galleries and art critics promote commercialization, while the Ministry of Culture and art schools provide minimal support, worsening the state of Greek art. As a result, painters become superficial, as the goal becomes how to sell, not how to express their emotions, allowing them to be led into their own world, regardless of the price. Personally, I am not interested in creating works that would match the furnishings of someone's house.

A woman full of passion for life, humanity, and literature, Venetia Pitsiladi Chuard, also known as Wanda Chuard, is a shining example of a modern Greek woman of the diaspora. A permanent resident of Geneva, Wanda maintains unbreakable ties with Athens, the city where she grew up and which she describes as “the centre of the world.” "I am very proud to have been born Greek. Being Greek is both a gi and a heritage," she says with emotion. Through her work, she honors Greek culture and history. Her life is a continuous mission to promote Greek civilization, both through her active participation in cultural and charitable organizations and through her literary works. With studies in Journalism, Counseling Psychology, and Educational Sciences in London and Geneva, Wanda combines her deep understanding of the human psyche with the artistic essence of an author. She is an active member of the Swiss Committee for the Return of the Parthenon Marbles, Ambassador of the "Ioannis Kapodistrias Center for European Studies and Research" in Switzerland, and coordinator of the successful “Geneva Literary Circle of Book Enthusiasts”. She serves as a beacon of cultural diplomacy. In 2015, she was awarded the Gold Medal by the Hellenic Literature Translators Society for her contribution to spreading the Greek language abroad. "My passion is diving into the depths of the human soul," she characteristically states. She explores the complexities of human existence and describes them with admirable skill. Wanda Chuard takes us on a journey through her thoughts and emotions, reaffirming once again that she is a true ambassador of the Greek spirit to the world.
«I am very proud to have been born Greek. Being Greek is both a gift and a heritage»
■ As a Greek-Swiss, how have your cultural roots influenced your writing style?
The themes I develop in my books always include “Greek experiences.” Greek culture, customs and traditions, moral principles, and life values, as well as Greek civilization, are deeply rooted in my subconscious and psychology.
■ What inspired you to become a novelist?
From a young age, I wrote poems because I felt an emotional need to express my feelings. I remember that in high school, my literature teacher used to say “Pitsiladi, you were born to be a writer”.
My grandfather, born in Constantinople, would tell me fairy tales—though they were stories of his own life—so vivid that I would live them with him. He was the first to lead me down a poetic and literary path.
■ Where do you find inspiration for your stories and characters?
I would say that my inspiration stems from my boundless imagination. Inspiration also comes from today’s volatile society, which seems to have lost its way and is desperately seeking to rediscover the moral bonds of family and the lost values of life.
■ Your novels are social-psychological portraits dealing with human relationships. What message do you convey to your readers?
I am fascinated by analyzing human emotions, delving into childhood traumas that often trap my characters and lead them to impasses, great passions, and extreme mistakes. When “the memory of our soul” is wounded, it desperately needs to forget while struggling to forgive and find redemption. Only “emotional maturity” can provide stability, greater inner strength, and self-confidence. For our psyche to be healthy, it requires significant “emotional resilience.” We know that the less we accept ourselves, the more we will crave the acceptance of others. It is, therefore, crucial to learn to love ourselves. Our happiness depends on us!

■ Can you share something about your upcoming book?
My next book will be released soon. It is a profound, emotional, and captivating psychological novel titled “The Mistake of Forgiveness.” It is a powerful story, which will awaken consciences. With bated breath, we analyze the unpredictable reactions of the characters wondering: “How much strength and endurance does forgiveness have?” Do you have the power to forgive the unforgivable? Could forgiveness ultimately be a mistake? The characters in this novel take us between Athens and Geneva—my two favorite cities, where I also share my personal life.
Thank you, and we wish yo u great success with your new book!

Interview: Fotini Androulaki
“We are making a great effort, with many initiatives, to highlight the historical and cultural wealth of Western Greece—the land where the first Olympians walked, where the First-Called Apostle walked, the land that heroes and martyrs of freedom tread upon, the land that nurtured a Saint Kosmas and a Palamas”
hat was your vision at the beginning of your term?
We presented to the citizens of Western Greece not merely a vision, but a call to fundamentally transform the attitudes and pace at which the Region had been operating. These entrenched practices had long contributed to stagnation and the economic and social decline that plagued the area, even prior to the economic crisis. We pledged responsible governance, relentless effort, and a fresh perspective to drive meaningful change. The citizens placed their trust in us, and I believe we honored that trust by delivering tangible, measurable results. In just four years, Western Greece accomplished more than it had in decades. We unblocked stalled projects, revitalized the investment climate, enhanced the region’s outward focus, and provided unwavering support to local communities and entrepreneurship at every level. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Western Greece not only avoided retreat or stagnation but achieved remarkable progress. This advancement is best illustrated by a single key indicator, the unemployment rate. After years of struggle, unemployment in Western Greece has fallen from 23% to a single digit—a historic milestone. Once known as the region with the highest unemployment in the country, it has now become a leader in job cre-
ation. This meaningful effort was recognized by the citizens, who reaffirmed their trust in us during the 2023 elections, entrusting us once more with the leadership of the Region. In return, we pledged to work even harder, ensuring that now, with the engines running, we can push forward at full speed. That is precisely what we are doing in this new term—focused and determined—knowing that, in the end, we will let results, not aspirations, speak for us through tangible achievements.
«Western Greece is a “green” destination, and this is something we are emphasizing with great intensity»
■ What are the key priorities for the Region of Western Greece in your current term, and what challenges do you see as critical to overcoming in order to achieve these goals? We recognize that the progress made during our first four years is merely the starting point of a challenging yet promising journey, as Western Greece possesses immense potential for development. A key priority moving forward is to further strengthen local entrepreneurship and enhance the global reach of our regional products. Western Greece also boasts one of the largest provincial road networks in the entire country, making improved accessibility a critical priority for boosting the region's economic prospects. Equally pressing is the modernization of other key infrastructure—not only to meet the demands of the local economy but also to address the urgent challenges posed by climate change. Our efforts are focused on enhancing the resilience of Western Greece’s infrastructure, ensuring it can withstand the challenges posed by increasingly frequent and severe natural phenomena. We are engaged in a constant battle to maintain the highest level of preparedness, recognizing that even the most advanced regions of Europe and the world are not immune to the devastating impacts of these events.
In addition, we are planning the most ambitious urban redevelopment project the region has ever seen, while also expanding initiatives to promote external connections and cultural growth. With Ancient Olympia as a key asset, Western Greece has the potential to become a leading destination for visitors—not only for summer tourism but for a wide range of alternative tourism experiences throughout the year.
■ Do you have a strategy to encourage young people to settle in the region and become involved in the primary sector?
Our plan is straightforward: to create conditions that help young people realize the vast potential of the primary sector as a "goldmine" they can tap into. We are one of the country's leading regions in leveraging resources from the Rural Development Program. Additionally, we are at the forefront of initiatives to reduce energy costs for our farmers, having developed a major project for energy production through renewable sources (RES). Furthermore, we are making significant strides in connecting Western Greece's agri-food products with tourism, fostering a strong synergy between the two sectors.
■ Are there plans to boost the tourism promotion of Western Greece? What initiatives do you believe will help attract more visitors?
Western Greece embodies over 3,000 years of Hellenic history. This is why our tourism campaign is named "Olympian Land." The three key assets we possess—and are actively investing in—
are the primary sector, culture, and tourism. We are making a concerted effort through numerous initiatives to showcase the rich historical and cultural heritage of Western Greece—the land where the first Olympians walked, the land of the First-Called Apostle, the land that witnessed the footsteps of heroes and martyrs of freedom, and the land that nurtured figures like Saint Kosmas and Palamas.
In addition, through our tourism promotion efforts, we showcase the region's unique natural landscapes, which we protect with the utmost care. These include the lagoons of Messolonghi, Kaiafas, and Kotychi, the Vouraikos Gorge, the Foloi Forest, and many more. Western Greece is a "green" destination, and we emphasize this aspect with great passion and dedication.
■ Climate change continues to pose an escalating threat. What steps is the Region of Western Greece taking to tackle the climate crisis and promote sustainable development?
We have already implemented a Regional Plan for Climate Change Adaptation, which provides a strategic framework for addressing the climate crisis in our region.
This plan is not only crucial for securing resources but also targets specific sectoral and geographic priorities.
It serves as a comprehensive guide to protecting our region from the impacts of climate change. The plan is dynamic by design, flexible and tailored to meet the specific needs of the local communities within our region.
■ You recently visited China. What was the purpose of the trip, and was it successful in achieving its goals?
Western Greece is a region with a global outlook. Our visit to Hangzhou, in Zhejiang Province, China, built upon the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation, marking a commitment from both sides to foster long-term collaboration. This partnership spans key areas such as e-commerce, renewable energy, culture, sports, and tourism, while also promoting joint initiatives between academic and research institutions. Our participation in the 3rd Global Digital Trade Expo was highly successful, with Western Greece being invited as the honored region. This provided local institutions and businesses with a valuable opportunity to showcase their initiatives, promote their work, and explore potential partnerships. Simultaneously, we participated in the Global Dialogue Forum on Urban Governance and Sustainable Development, alongside representatives from 24 cities across 15 countries, where we presented our region's strategic priorities for infrastructure development. Furthermore, during an official meeting with the Mayor of Hangzhou, we established a foundation for future collaboration and outlined a roadmap for joint initiatives in areas of mutual interest.
I believe significant opportunities are unfolding before us, and we are determined to seize them and make the most of them in the best possible way.

PREFECTURE OF ILIA IN THE PELOPONNESE
A Fusion of Nature and History
The Holy Land of Antiquity
Olympia resonates with the rich history of the inaugural Olympic Games. The sacred grove of Altis, dedicated to Zeus, was home to some of the most significant ancient structures, including the temples of Zeus and Hera, the stadium, and the renowned Stoa of Echoes. Here, for nearly a millennium, stood the magnificent statue of Zeus, crafted by the sculptor Phidias, which was celebrated as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Additionally, the Archaeological Museum of Olympia houses Praxiteles' statue of Hermes, depicting him holding the young god Dionysus. Olympia is not merely an archaeological site; it is where the Olympic flame is ignited every four years, symbolizing peace and unity among nations. A stroll through the archaeological site allows visitors to absorb its historical energy, while a visit to the museum offers deeper insights into ancient Greek life and achievements.
/Its construction began by Philip II, after the battle of Chaeronea (338 BC) and ended by Alexander the Great. It was surrounded by an Ionic colonnade. Inside it were gilt-ivory statues of the Macedonian dynasty, works of the famous sculptor Leocharos.
