Terminal 4 Airside Expansion Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

Fort Lauderdale International Airport is in the process of an expansion program that has as its centerpiece a new runway and terminal. This diverse expansion program features the renovation and rehabilitation of airside and landside facilities, including the relocation and upgrade of utilities and other infrastructure, the replacement of perimeter fencing and runway expansion and resurfacing. As Broward County Aviation Department’s general engineering consultant, EAC provides engineering design support for the nearly $1 billion Airport Expansion Program (AEP), including the hydrant fueling infrastructure network supporting the Terminal 4 expansion and gate replacement.

EAC is developing preliminary engineering plans for all utility relocations

EAC was tasked with performing engineering services for the rehabilitation of these runways and associated safety areas, originally constructed in 1943. The runway rehabilitation design eliminated current pavement distresses with a cost-effective strategy that produced a 20-year design life pavement.

Message From Our Staff EAC continues to establish its aviation practice in Florida with the goal of bringing value to airports in the United States as well as internationally. Our current assignments, some of which are highlighted in this newsletter, demonstrate our abilities and expertise in the design of Airside and Landside airport improvement projects of varying complexity. Our experience includes a broad portfolio in areas of airfield planning, grading and paving, pavement design, earthwork, infrastructure and utilities, safety plans and AOA security issues. In addition, our experienced staff is very familiar with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines and regulations as well as those from other aviation organizations, such as the International Air Transport Organization (IATA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Complementing our aviation group is our strength in civil engineering infrastructure, transportation and permitting. Areas of expertise include stormwater management systems, water distribution and fire protection, wastewater collection and transmission systems; roadway and highway design; and our familiarity with local regulatory jurisdictions at the state, county and municipal levels. Our unique ability to provide such inter-discipline synergy differentiates us from other competitors. To our prospective clients we ask for the opportunity to demonstrate our abilities, value, and commitment to excellence and quality of service. We are thankful for the opportunities that we have been afforded and will continue to exceed the desired levels of expectation. Luis Lopez-Blazquez, PE Vice-President Aviation

Community Involvement Promoting the Field of Engineering Among Our Youth

The EAC Team speaking to school students during Construction Career Days

EAC has been active in the community promoting the field of engineering among our youth. We have been involved in the Construction Career Days as well as the Jorge Mas Canosa Middle School Career Day. EAC is also proud to serve as part of the Kiwanis Division 23 & 24 Christmas in July 2011. EAC actively encourages all staff to participate in community involvement initiatives that the firm undertakes. We commend members of our staff for actively participating in these student outreach activities. Championing these efforts are Donna Grace, Christopher Bucknor, Daniel Greenberg, Evelyn Rodriguez, Juan Quiroga, Joe Fitzgerald, Maggie Rodriguez, Kirk Wallen and Teresa Konz.

EAC Consulting, Inc. is responsible for developing the potable water distribution infrastructure system and the wastewater collection system for the entire Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport service area. EAC acts as the liaison with regulatory agencies and is responsible for data collection and hydraulic modeling simulations that will also involve development of an “immediate” infrastructure improvements plan that resolves system deficiencies and enhances the current level of service. In future phases of the project, EAC will also be responsible for developing a systemwide improvement master plan that addresses future airport development and expansion, identifying associated infrastructure upgrades to provide the required level of service at the airport.

North Terminal Sky Train Miami International Airport

For the North Terminal Development Program, EAC provided analysis and design of the structural system for a rooftop people-mover system above the mile-long concourse. Because of the precision required, close coordination with the APM electrical systems and vehicle manufacturers was critical during design and construction of this facility. EAC also performed construction oversight services for the guideway.

Yasmin Moreno, PE – Project Manager (Aviation) Ms. Moreno has over 15 years of experience involving the design and planning of airport facilities and roadways. She has prepared airport layout construction plans for runways, taxiways, aircraft and aircraft aprons. Her extensive experience managing large projects for airports, roadways and civil site development projects makes her a welcomed addition to the soaring EAC team. Andrew Schier, PE – Senior Project Engineer (Aviation) Mr. Schier has over 13 years of experience that includes airports, civil, and environmental design and planning. He has prepared airport layout construction plans for runways, taxiways, aircraft and aircraft aprons. His vast experience managing large projects for airports and civil site development projects makes him a key staff member to the EAC team. Alexander Gorgas, PE – Senior Project Engineer (Highways) Mr. Gorgas has over 14 years experience in the design of major engineering projects. His experience includes highway design, mass transit design, and tunnel design. With experience on projects in North, Central, and South Florida, we welcome Mr. Gorgas as a talented member of the EAC team. Edward Hinte, PE – Senior Project Engineer (Highways) Mr. Hinte has over 30 years of experience in the planning, design and construction of highway facilities ranging from intersection improvements to the design of municipal streets, arterial roadways, expressways, interstate highways and toll facilities. His experience involves all phases of urban and rural highway design including vertical and horizontal geometry, design location studies, right of way, drainage design, utility relocation design, MOT design, signage and pavement marking design, and cost estimates. Mr. Hinte has additional experience in transit facilities projects and is a great addition to the EAC team.

Congratulations To:

Shari Ramirez, PE, Rodney Devera, PE, Sowande Johnson, PE, Jesse VanEyk, PE, Marcello D’Andrea, EI, Carlos Rodriguez, EI, and Baris Yalim, EI, for excelling and passing their PE and EI exams. EAC congratulates each of you on your achievement and looks forward to further enriching your development. eacconsult.com
