Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

North Perry Airport

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

General Engineering Consultant Services at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and North Perry Airport Broward County Aviation Department, Florida

This diverse expansion program features renovations and rehabilitations to airside and landside facilities. Efforts include relocation and upgrade of landside and airside utilities, hydrant fueling lines designs, perimeter fencing replacement and runway resurfacing. As Broward County Aviation Department’s general engineering consultant, EAC provides engineering design support for the nearly $1 billion Airport Expansion Program (AEP), including the hydrant fueling infrastructure network supporting the Terminal 4 expansion and gate replacement. EAC is involved in a myriad of AEP Enabling Projects for the ultimate construction of an elevated south runway over US-1.

Orlando International Airport Airside 1 Improvements

Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, Florida EAC’s services included civil engineering design, development of construction drawings and specifications, jurisdictional permitting and construction administration support services. EAC was responsible for the site layout and geometry, stormwater management, utilities and infrastructure improvements. EAC was also tasked with apron replacement plans and specifications for the impacted portions of the existing apron. A major challenge of the project involved minimizing renovation impacts to this 24/7 airline operation and passenger service for the traveling public.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Water and Sewer Utilities Master Plans Broward County Aviation Department, Florida

EAC developed a potable water distribution infrastructure system master plan as well as a wastewater collection and transmission system master plan for the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport service area. EAC’s engineers collected and verified varying data to develop and calibrate hydraulic models that simulated the respective infrastructure systems at the airport. The project involved identifying system deficiencies for both utility infrastructure systems and recommending resolutions to enhance current levels of service, in order to meet the airport’s full build-out potential.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Expansion Program Phase III Broward County Aviation Department, Florida

EAC provided program management services as part of a team responsible for infrastructure improvement and expansion projects, from conception through design and construction. Phase III expansion featured design and construction of a new terminal and its concourse, the airport’s access roadways, pedestrian overpasses and miscellaneous airfield work.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Terminal Access Roadways Broward County Aviation Department, Florida

For this $70+ million project, EAC worked as part of a Design-Build team to design phased maintenance of traffic construction plans, design several bridges within the airport and perform drainage master planning and permitting services. Coordination was key since roadway upgrades were performed in conjunction with terminal, landside and airside facilities improvements to accommodate the project’s expedited schedule.

Terminal 4 Airside Expansion

Broward County Aviation Department, Florida

Terminal 4

EAC is developing engineering plans for all utility relocations as part of the enabling projects for the expansion of Terminal 4 at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The major utilities requiring upgrades and relocation include potable water mains, sanitary sewer mains, pressurized sanitary sewer force mains, low/high-pressure gas mains, telecommunications/data and power duct banks. EAC will evaluate the existing sewer pump stations to ensure sufficient capacity for the full build-out of Terminal 4 as well as current contributory flows. EAC’s engineers are also tasked with coordinating design elements of the passenger loading bridge extension for Gate F2 at Terminal 3. EAC will design rehabilitations for apron pavement, marking and other surface improvements impacted by the loading bridge extension.

EMAS

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Runway 9L-27R Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) Broward County Aviation Department, Florida

EAC was responsible for the civil engineering design and development of construction documents for the paving and grading improvements to the blast pads at both runway ends to facilitate the installation of the EMAS. The EMAS is an FAA-approved alternative that allows runways constructed prior to the adoption of runway safety area regulations to comply with current safety area requirements. EMAS-eligible runways, as defined by the FAA, are constrained by local development, natural and/or environmental obstacles that make it impracticable to meet current runway safety area requirements.

Program Management Consultant Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Broward County Aviation Department, Florida This airport expansion program included new construction and rehabilitation to airside and landside facilities. As part of the program management team for the airport’s expansion program, EAC delivered a wide range of design, master planning, construction management and program controls services.

Miami International Airport North Terminal Sky Train Miami-Dade Aviation Department, Florida

For the North Terminal Development Program, EAC provided analysis and design of the structural system for a high-level, rooftop people-mover system above the mile-long concourse. Because of the precision required, close coordination with the APM electrical systems and vehicle manufacturers was critical during design and construction of this facility. EAC also performed construction oversight services for the guideway.

Miami International Airport Refurbishment of Flamingo and Dolphin Garages Miami-Dade Aviation Department, Florida

EAC provided engineering services for implementation of life-safety improvements. Services included inspection of facilities and preparation of construction documents that identified each problem, its location and repair method. EAC then assisted with the bidding and performed construction administration associated with the repairs.

North Perry General Airport 9L-27R and 18L-36R Runway Rehabilitation Broward County Aviation Department, Florida

EAC was tasked with performing engineering services for the rehabilitation of these runways, originally constructed in 1943. The runway rehabilitation design eliminated current pavement distresses with a costeffective strategy that produced a 20-year design life pavement.
