CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD)
THE REIV CPD PROGRAM Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is an investment in your real estate career progression. In a dynamic environment where the economy, legislation and technology are constantly changing it is important for agents to evolve to stay relevant. CPD is a requirement for practicing REIV members and a key point of difference in the industry. CPD points can be earned by undertaking relevant courses (face-to-face or online), attending events and/or participating in competitions.
What is CPD? CPD constitutes learning and development that builds on existing skills, knowledge and expertise in real estate. CPD also includes core training programs to learn new skills, competitions to demonstrate your expertise and networking events to stay up-to-date with legislative changes. Training or learning that adds to your repertoire of real estate skills and knowledge is regarded as CPD.
How are CPD points calculated? Allocation of points is determined by the REIV. The Institute considers the importance and impact of the completed initiative or training to determine the number of CPD points that should be allocated. CPD eligible initiatives can be undertaken with the REIV or through other providers, including in-house training. Our aim is to ensure REIV members remain up-to-date with industry developments and are continually advancing their professional skills. As such, we value and recognise relevant training you undertake, whether it is conducted by the REIV or through other sources. For initiatives that have not been organised or previously assessed by the REIV, we will request further information to establish the relevance, quality and authenticity of the initiative and determine its eligibility for REIV CPD points.
Planning your CPD for the year REIV Members are required to maintain 48 points over a three year rolling calendar, with a minimum of 12 points accrued through REIV activity.
4
Recording CPD points Members can track their CPD points online at reiv.com.au. If you complete any informal activities or non-REIV training which has been approved by the REIV, simply send an email to cpd@reiv.com.au for your records to be updated. Non-REIV training must be approved by the REIV using the ‘Application for External CPD Points’ form. This form, together with supporting documentation, must be received either up to six months prior to the training commencing or up to six months after the non-REIV training was completed. The final point value will be determined by the REIV if the application is approved.
CPD eligible events To promote the ongoing exchange of ideas and provide a platform for peer to peer support and development, the REIV has an active culture of professional improvement through our Chapters and Divisions. Whilst the Chapters bring together real estate professionals with a specialist skill or area of interest, the Divisions unite members in geographic areas for greater ongoing interaction and more customised professional development opportunities. REIV Chapters and Divisions organise and design events that focus on practical insights and current issues relevant to them. Refer to reiv.com.au for upcoming events. Participation in these events also contributes towards CPD.
Fees & other information REIV offers a range of courses, events and competitions with varying fee structures. Please refer to the relevant initiative for associated fees. In most instances, costs associated with professional development are treated as a tax deductible expense. Please refer to your tax adviser for details. Individuals who hold an REIV membership can benefit from significantly discounted learning fees as well as access to various member-only opportunities, including events and seminars. CPD events are not eligible for government funding.
Please ensure you have provided the REIV with a current email address to receive invitations and updates for relevant initiatives. Most CPD initiatives can be booked online at reiv.com.au.
