Make news and serve it HOT!
COME ON BA BY, LIGH T M Y FIR E
Tonight is all about light! All the five light-related workshops have prepared several installations, which will be spread all over the city center. To help you get the most out of the light festival, we have prepared a guide of what and where you can see during this amazing night here in Žužemberk. We ourselves can’t choose which project we prefer, so we’re are going to visit absolutely all the locations, even if it takes the whole night.

Light festival they have two things to show off. The first installation will be situated at the castle wall, left of the entrance. This will be a net of light cables connecting the wall with the fence opposite to it. The cables will be lit with some lasers, forming a word which is to remain secret till the beginning of the festival. The second thing this workshop is doing is light mapping. Some geometrical shapes are to be mapped and projected on. They don’t yet say what form it is or what will be projected, but we already can say it will be great! So check Iskra hall for their fabulous installation.
IllustrationIllumination Five installations - thats how many things the hardworking people from this workshop are preparing for tonight. The first two can only be observed during daylight, so hurry up! Visit the second from the left tower of the castle to see an amazing game of water and light mirroring each other and filling the whole tower with sparkles, or the small room under the third tower for a modern interpretation of a camera obscura. Their third thing is a collaboration with Accordion workshop. You might

REVIEW Light me up
have already seen their wall made of thin wooden slabs. Illustration - Illumination are going to cover it with hand made paper of different color and lighten it a bit, forming a complex parametric sculpture. The participants are also going to put some kind of a net made of rope over the castle bridge and enlighten the path from the bus stop to the monument on the main square.
Light parasite Light parasite locations are an ultimate location for those tired of the crazy parties every night. They are taking over two very special
places, resulting in light and material installations. The first one is in the former chicken house - the one you pass when going to the river. It has long been abandoned, but the guys turned it into a fantastic space, which is a total installation, representing a king of fungus of a parasite. There will also be some kind of digeridoo music as the tutors say, so the feelings inside must be overwhelming. The second half of the team have been creating an installation in the old mill. The ruins aren’s really visible from the town, but the guys are going to change that! They will light them and the river up, creating a place for a small and quiet party.
The stairs to the river are quite dark during the night, but not for long. The Light me up guys are doing a pretty lighting of it using fiberoptics. The amount of light will be smaller at the top of the stairs and bigger as you move down, ending with a glowing surface. They also have already finished another installation at the second dock, which is right behind the pizzeria building, and did a performance involving flashlight. The last one has been nicely documented, and the photos and videos can be accessed online.
Ilumidentity Illumidentity workshop is also planning something spectacular for the evening. Their first location is the former slaughter room in the Iskra hall. The participants say there will be something really creepy, involving lots of red paint and spooky lighting. Another of their projects at Iskra will be light mapping - a projection of different images onto semitransparentcubes.Thethirdoneislocated downstairs in the castle where will also project a mapping technique onto the ancient walls. And maybe, if they still have time, they will prepare a game for all the participants of EASA right in front of the main stage.

CITY IS MY PLAYGROUND IS GOING TO THE WOODS.
TRAP FOR A MONSTER
As city is my playground workshop has been our close neighbour all these days, Umbrella have been watching their work most of the time. We must admit that the participants work as “bitches” as some of the tutors said. Tutors sometimes even have to make them stop working, which is pretty nice of them. They have managed to set one of the most interesting workshops here. As a result you can already see the paintings on the abandoned house next to the river and fancy t-shirts on the participants with drawings of their own designs. But the main stuff that everybody will see in the near future is huge portraits of some of our dear dinos who will remain in hisory of Žužemberk due to this workshop. Recently almost the whole team have returned from their
Trap for a monster team is located on the picturestique place next to the beach, path to which wasn’t really easy to find. But things will change soon. In the nearest future Zuzemberk will get a new public space, which will be impossible to pass by. The concept of the new spot is based on the idea of a trap. At first they made a research about a real means of fishing and hunting and revealed some basic features that attract a victim. Then different places of Zuzemberk, which could become such places of attraction, have been analised. Nowadays plenty of such places are abandoned and are in need of such public “traps”. The result of the workshop is being kept as a secret right now, but quiet soon you will take a risk to get into such trap m which will be difficult to get out of.
trip to the wood. And we are lucky to get a letter from them. Here it is! “City as playground knows no limitations. Nature can easily become a surrounding for colourful paintings as well. Walls were traded for a PVC canvas, the fresh mountain air for an intoxicating paint cloud. Being high (up in the mountains) is a great source of inspiration. But the camp fire and breathtaking starry sky from the night before, didn’t hurt neither. If you think it was all rainbows and sunshine then you’re kind of wrong. Because intergalactic ports aren’t invented yet, it took an exhausting hike to the cabin. And the fear for bears and killer bees wasn’t unjustified. But it couldn’t spoil the memory, because we had a wonderful BBQ *, a perfect sky, crackling sound of the fire and a crazy light graffiti photo shoot. A trip to remember!”
U MBR EL L A The Umbrella newspaper team is the one who’s been feeding you with fresh news, forecasts and gossip every day since the very first one. Some people seem to think the job is rather easy - you see, we’re just kinda seating in the Iskra hall whole day long and haven’t even lifted one heavy thing during the whole EASA. But is only a visibility - ten people doing Umbrella weren’t resting even for
a minute this ten days, searching for interesting stuff, images, opinions all day long, and even at the parties. The typical day would begin at the bar with a discussion what are the most interesting topics for today and tomorrow. Thanks to you, guys, there’s always something amazing going on, so we mostly just made a list of what happened or what will happen, and that
was enough. After the conversation everybody received an assignment and went to the city to fulfill it. It would mostly take the first half of the day and in the afternoon the layout process would begin. We hope all our issues were as interesting and funny as we planned and hope you don’t mind us being nasty sometimes. What goes around comes around anyway.

WASP WASPS! FRIENDS OR ENEMIES?
Q OF THE DAY HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH WASPS Reinis / Latvia
I just hit them in the face.
Michael / Germany Smoke on them. It helps
Archil / Georgia Try not to get them angry
Janis / Latvia
I do nothing. I like them. It seems that today it is too miserable for wasps - they all are sleeping in their warm hives. But tomorrow the sun is going to come back, and we’ll have to deal with those bitchy little creatures again. The Umbrella team has prepared a number of useful tips that might help you not to be bitten. 1. Don’t leave any food outside. It might sound difficult, since we’re all eating outside, but after you finished, always pack all the remains and throw them into a bin which closes tightly. This will prevent wasps from even coming close to you. 2. Since the bitches are already attracted to our camp, we can take some central measures. The main one are traps. You take a plastic bottle and put something sweet and sugary inside - some radler will work perfectly. then close it tightly and make a small hole close to the cap (a lit cigarette will work perfectly). The wasps will get inside, attracted by the smell, get drunk and
won’t be able to get out. 3. If a wasp is already close to you, try to smoke - or approach a smoker. These insects do hate any smoke, especially tobacco. 4. If you’re trying to kill one, remember that they can survive medium strength flops, they only make them more evil and crazy. So beat them hardly from the beginning or not at all. Boiling water might help dealing with big amounts of them, for example, when the trap is full. 5. Each culture has it’s own traditional ways of repelling the wasps. For example, local Žužians told us it might be useful to mix some garlic with butter and apply it on your skin. However, Unbrella doesn’t recommend you try this at home because it might repel not only wasps but humans. 6. Anyway, try to keep calm and not wave your hands too much as a stripy asshole comes close. Just carry on doing your thing and nobody gets hurt.
Anja / Local
There are two tricks. First is to put a bottle with something sweet far from the place where you sit. Second is to put something made of copper next to you. It distracts them.
Diego / Spain
I just panic and run away.
Maria / Russia
I just pretend to ignore them.
Lena / Austria
I hate them. And as i have been bitten by one - not very succesful

OTHER SHIT PEOPLE DO
PEOPLE But it’s not the end! One more of Nastja’s passions is graffiti. She is a member of a group of artists FLYGUR and is the one responsible for JUNIOR FLYGUR. The group uses abandoned spaces, factories and other interesting locations for their art. The guys find their inspiration in Scandinavian folklore and mythology. Check out their works at http://flygur.tumblr. com/
Umbrella is impressed with how versatile easians are. Today we talked to Nastja from Russia. Nastja has a degree in programming, but after 4 years of work in this area, she realised that she doesn’t belong there. Now her programming skills are used mainly to help the friends with internet settings. Todays she’s studying in moscow school of fine arts, at the photography, sculpture and video department. She’s shooting architecture and landscapes. One of her recent projects is entirely based on her pictures from last year’s EASA in Helsinki.
Hello my dear EASAians and thank you for last night. Not only do I love Sangria and horrible shots, but the whole kissing idea at the bar really gets my blood flowing. Kudos to the Spanish for setting that up! I see my complaint about man on man action in yesterday’s issue was taken seriously because the hottest kissing going on was of the manly sort. I was hoping it was going to be more stuff like that from the organisers this year, but it seems like the Spanish finally took matters in to their own hands. Good effort! Gossip Girl also observed that some of you held on to your dominoes after your shots, just in case you found someone else you liked with the same one. Good thinking, but If you hang on to all of them and walk around with more than five it gets a bit sad really. How about you do it the old fashioned way and introduce yourself instead? That’s how normal people do it.. Like I said the gay scene has been a bit dull sofar, butthecoupleonthedancefloordidtheir part. You were very cute. Just like the two I saw in some bushes outside the castle, good stuff. And how many dots are there on my domino note? I’ll never tell. You know you love me Xoxo Gossip Girl
UNKNOWN ABOUT KNOWN We’re all enjoying chatting to new people from every nation in Europe (and further afield) at the bar, but once we’ve covered the basics of where you’re from and what workshop the conversation can run a little dry. Here are some little known facts about known countries that you can throw into the conversation to impress your new friend... TURKEY 72 nations / 72 nations live together in Turkey. 2 continents / There are several bridges in Istanbul that connect two continents - Europe and Asia. Women suffrage / Third country in the world which gave women suffrage. Yoghurt / First nation to obtain yogurt from milk. Not sure if we want to know how it came
about. Gay sultans / Most of the sultans of the Ottoman Empire were gay. Knowing this, harem makes sense. UKRAINE Geographical center of Europe / Measurements done after World War ll by Soviet scientists again proclaimed Rakhiv and Dilov to be the geographical center of Europe. Postal code / First in Europe started using postal codes. Roxelana / One of the most powerful women in Ottoman history and a prominent figure during era known as the Sultanate of Women, was born in Ukraine. SANGRIA IS A TICKET TO THE PAR ADISE
As usual one of the nights during EASA was dedicated to the Spanish and their wonderful sangria, mmm yummy sangria. This time Diego and the other Spanish participants, tutors and helpers made over 500 litres of the refreshing beverage, and as always it was a massive hit. So if you didn’t get to taste some on national evening then at least this night you would be able to get some at the bar. The evening started out pretty relaxed but eventually the bar area and the dance floor in front of the stage exploded as sensual Spanish hits pumped out of the speaker system and the sangria flooded the castle. You probably felt the effects of that this morning, I know I did. No wonder the workshops started off a bit slow this morning. But that is the price we pay for having fun at night.
The bartenders also had one extra trick up their sleeve, for every sangria you bought you got a domino. And if you found your matching domino and kissed in front of the bar you would receive some delicious shots. Your matching domino was often someone of the same sex, but anything for some fun and a free shot right? And besides, everybody is gay at EASA anyways. And yes there were usually more than one matching domino so threesomes did occur. But people didn’t seem to mind, it’s just once a year so YOLO right? Just like every year Spanish night was a great success, the sangria really brings something extra to the party. Thank you so much for organising it yet again and we´ll be looking forward to Spanish night in Bulgaria next year!
