EASA Registration Process & Policies Please read this carefully before registering your elementary child for an after school activity. EASA program will be available online on August 12, 2013. Students may register on-line (www.sas.edu.sg/easa) for up to 3 classes 1. Online registration for First choice class opens August 19 at 10 am 2. Online registration for Second & Third choice classes open from August 22 (midnight of August 21) to August 25. Registrations received on August 26 onwards will be subject to a $15.00 late fee. Late registrations will not be accepted after August 28th. If a class is full during registration period, students may request to be on ONE â&#x20AC;&#x153;Wish Listâ&#x20AC;?. In the following EASA term, par ents will receive via email an early invitation to register for their Wish Listed class choice only. Minimum and maximum student enrollments are listed with each class description. There will be no refunds after you have paid and registered your child in a class (once you have received the receipt from PayPal). There will be no switches (transfers to a different EASA class) after your registration is confirmed (once you have received the receipt from PayPal). Email reminder will be sent out after class list is completed. Language Mandarin Out-of-the-Box

(KG -1 grade)

This program provides opportunities for SAS Elementary students to learn Mandarin in a fun playing environment. Students will be engaged in activities that are rich in visual cues and focus on developing communicative enjoyment and confidence. The main focus will be speech using lots of exciting hands-on activities. The program has been designed as a continuous three term curriculum and students are encouraged to participate for the entire three terms to get maximum benefit from the program.

Cocina en Español (1st - 2nd grade) This program has been designed to provide SAS students from Grade 1 and 2 opportunities to develop their Spanish through cooking. This program is interactive and will complement the school’ Spanish Curriculum. It will be taught completely in Spanish. The children will also learn basic cooking skills appropriate for their age and how to work safely in the kitchen. In order to get the most out of this program, it is recommended that the students attend all three terms. Each term includes seven to eight sessions with a different Latin American and Spanish recipes.

Fascinating French (4th - 5th grade) Did you grow up reading Madeline? Watching French soccer or the Tour de France on TV? Love to eat at local French eateries? Maybe you’ve been lucky enough to visit or even live in France or another French-speaking country. If so, then you have an idea of how rich and varied French culture is, from food, traditions and sports to literature, music and film. Of all countries in the world, France is #1 in visits by tourists, and French is spoken in 60 different countries throughout the world. In this class we will explore the many facets of French culture in a fun and hands-

on context, while learning some basics of the language as well. Join us every Wednesday for a fresh foray into the world of French and Francophone culture and language. If you aren’t currently a Francophile (lover of all things French), you will be after taking this class!

This class is designed for students who are already water safe (who are able to go underwater and dogpaddle) and need to start to work on basic stroke development. In case of rain, please bring sports shoes to every swim class as we will not cancel class but will offer an alternate activity.

Kinder Climb (KG) Welcome to introductory climbing. Various climbing activities, safety and simple techniques will be covered in this class designed to challenge all levels of climbers. A good pair of athletic training shoes and a positive attitude is all that is needed for this fun activity!

Water Confidence Lessons Is your kindergartener afraid to put his head underwater? Is she resistant to get her face wet? Swim Coach, Mr. James Tay, will use bright toys and fun games to encourage your child to get his face wet, kick, paddle, correct body position, safety, and much more. This is a nurturing beginner’s swim class for little ones to learn to love the water!

Yoga For Children (KG - 2nd grade) Children’s yoga is a natural and healthy way to exercise, relax, focus and strengthen the mind, body and spirit connection. Yoga games, breath meditation and deep relaxation are wonderful self-help therapies and excellent for children’s general health and well-being. Each child needs his/her own yoga mat.

Soccer Skills for Girls (1st - 2nd grade)

Tumbling (1st - 2nd grade) Tumbling is a fast-paced, high energy beginning tumbling course combining skills training, core body strengthening, and gymnastic based games to help improve flexibility, balance, strength, and respect for physical fitness. Game Busters (1st - 2nd grade) In this EASA class we will focus on games and activities that get students moving and actively engaged! We will play cooperative games, tag games, and invasion games while incorporating sportsmanship and team work. Touch Rugby Skills for Girls & Boys (3rd grade) Touch rugby is a fast moving, minimal contact, evasive game that is played throughout the world by boys and girls. The game is similar to rugby but without tacking, scrumming, mauling, lineout and kicking. This fast, simple and exciting game promotes the fundamentals skills of running, handling, evasion and support play, whilst developing basic principles of attack and defense.

Artistic Gymnastics Routines

Introducing a high energy, continuous movement basketball skills course. Students will be encouraged to have fun with various dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive games. Our challenge and emphasis will be on pushing ourselves towards personal improvement in this popular and exciting team sport.

It is one of the favorite styles of gymnastics! Students will learn to perform short routines on & with different gymnastics equipment. They will work on balance, strength and choreography. Students learn to combine rolls, handstands, cartwheels, pyramids, jumping, hanging, and pulling up on bars and rope into routines with partners & small groups.

Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art which teaches students how to use hands, elbows, knees and legs to become weapons. It teaches children good discipline, healthy lifestyle, good morals and also helps them to make new friends. This class aims to build a solid foundation for children to understand and enjoy Karate. Classes are taught by a dedicated Japanese Karate Association qualified 5th Dan black-belt instructor who has been coaching for more than 15 years. It is optional for students to purchase their own Karate uniform. Uniform’ ($50.00) order form will be sent home via EASA confirmation email.

Taekwondo (Beginner Belts) (KG/1st/2nd grade)

Taekwondo foster strong values and beliefs such as respect, determination, modesty, perseverance and self control. It is a systematic and progressive training that seeks to polish and maximize student’s ability in self-defense together with improving their self confidence and motor skills. This class will will be supervised by an International Certified Instructor who is a 7th degree black belter. Taekwondo Instructor will assess new students that already have belts from other countries/organizations and he will determine what EASA Taekwondo class these students should attend. Kendo carries the principles of samurai swordsmanship cultivating your child’s mind, body, and spirit. Kendo is a fast sport that will build your child’s endurance, obedience and character. Performing Arts Imagine more...drama

(KG)

In Imagine More Drama children will be planning, performing and creating a show of their own creation. They will start by choosing a song to interpret artistically, that is, by using their voice, dancing and moving creatively, producing sounds, creating costumes, props and scenery. As there are only 8 sessions the children will likely not be able to finish the project but their experience will create an awareness about what it takes to create a show and a desire to learn more. We will be visiting the backstage of SAS high school theatre for an exposure to a professional setting which will hopefully inspire and create further curiosity in the children about artistic performance. Their learning journey will be documented and shared with parents. Designed exclusively for kids, Zumbatomic classes are rockin’, high-energy fitness-parties packed with specially choreographed, kid-friendly routines and all the music kids love, like hip-hop, regaeton, cumbia and much more. Parents love Zumbatomic because of the effects it has on kids, increasing their focus and self-confidence, boosting metabolism and enhancing coordination. No previous dance experience is required and boys and girls are welcome to participate. Comfortable workout clothes are preferred.

Come along and have fun learning Irish Dancing! In this beginner class, you will first learn a reel, and progress through to the light jig and hop jig dances. In some classes, we also work on specific skills to sharpen up your steps. Most dancers are able to perform on stage towards the end of the first year. Dancers can progress onto higher levels which include learning choreographed group dances and hard shoe dancing. As dancers progress, there are many opportunities to perform at both school and public events. Imagine more… StoryArt (1st grade) Imagine More…StoryArt is a series of sessions where children create an individual story book through illustration and creative writing. The children will use different art techniques using recycle materials to illustrate their books. The project starts with children choosing a story from a selection of fairy tales. The adaptation of the story results from the children's knowledge/ideas and abilities. Each child has the choice of which technique to use in creating his/her book. In the last session parents will be invited to a presentation and an exhibition of the children’s work. The small group allows for plenty of individual participation and involvement. Science Buddies

Our young chefs will prepare and enjoy eight different recipes while learning about different foods and kitchen tools. Children will be responsible for preparing, cooking and cleaning up during each session. Each participant will receive a collection of child -friendly recipes including the eight made during the Kids Can Cook sessions. The focus of this session will be on snacks and desserts. Students with food allergies are not encouraged to sign up for this class. A few recipes may be repeated from previous terms. Music Piano for Beginners

(1st / 2nd grade)

Open for new students only! Students will learn piano from square one. Each student will have his or her own keyboard with headphones on which to practice. During Piano for Beginners, students will be working on mastering the following skills: playing high and low sounds, using right and left hands separately and together, playing keys with the appropriate finger number, and finding groups of black keys and middle C. Students will also learn basic rhythms and music notation, as well as beginning improvisation. Students who have already had a keyboarding unit in their music class but do not yet take lessons, will also be able to advance the skills they learned in class. Lessons will include group and individual practice.

Students will learn to play guitar from square one! They will learn about posture, hand-positioning and get familiar with various parts of the instrument. Using the guitar chords - G major, C major, E minor and D major - students will begin ‘jamming’ as soon as possible. We will work on finger and scale exercises, strumming and other practice techniques and in no time they will start playing simple 3-string songs. Students will also learn basic guitar tuning and the notes of the musical staff. All students will need to bring a NYLON STRING CLASSICAL-STYLE guitar to the class. Movie & Video Creation

This class is open to new and returning students. In this fun course the students will learn the basics of all video (and film) productions. The course will cover planning, filming and editing of all sorts of videos. Students will work together to create a series of short videos, applying every technique they learn in class. All materials (including cameras) are provided. The instructor is Iskander Walen, who has worked on award-winning local sitcoms, television commercials, and created several short films.
