Join travel writer Tim Richards as he talks about his 7000 km rail journey around Australia, from Far North Queensland to southwest WA. An epic train journey around Australia in 2018, starting at the remote town of Normanton, in crocodile country, and ending in Bunbury, where he was born.

“I had envisaged the journey as a kind of triumphant progress: gazing upon my conquered lands as they slid past, metaphorically waving at my subjects, the smooth motion of each train bearing me onward. This was hubris, plain and simple, and the experience of the nineteenthcentury explorers Burke and Wills whose path I would cross more than once on my expedition should have prepared me for what happened next. It did not go entirely to plan.” FREE
