The Randwick Municipality’s centenary celebrations began on Boxing Day 1958 with the opening of the grand Mardi Gras carnival at Coogee Beach. Christine will discuss the tragic accident, its aftermath and the impact on the community. WHEN: JULY 28 6.30-7.30PM WHERE: ONLINE VIA ZOOM

The Story of Laperouse Tour

Join the Friends of Laperouse Museum as they lead a tour through the Museum and share the history of the famed French explorer Lapérouse and his ill-fated French expedition that landed here in 1788. François de Galaup, comte de Lapérouse, and his two ships reached Kamay Botany Bay a mere six days after the First Fleet in January 1788, and rested at the north side for six weeks after a long global voyage. Unlike the British, the French were not here to colonise Aboriginal land. They were mainly an expedition of the Enlightenment, to document, catalogue and map for France. When Lapérouse sailed out of Kamay Botany Bay in March of that year, however, he disappeared, never to be seen again.

Join laughter expert, entertainer, songwriter and creative writing mentor Helene Grover as she reminisces on her eventful life so far in her new memoir Sometimes the Music. WHEN: JULY 20 3.30-4.30PM WHERE: LIONEL BOWEN LIBRARY, 669-673 ANZAC PDE, MAROUBRA
