KEEPING OUR COMMUNITY SAFE Recently an incident occurred at our home that could have put my daughter and me in harm's way. As we do every night, we took our shitzu, Brodi, outside to exhaust some energy before bedtime. While outside, Brodi kept walking over to our vehicles, and we couldn’t get him to look away. After several minutes, I heard the most frightening sound coming from the direction of the vehicles — I cannot explain the sound, but it scared me so much that I grabbed Brodi and my daughter and ran inside the house. As I headed towards my bedroom to tell my husband what happened, we heard the vehicle alarm. The entire family ran outside, looked around the whole yard, and found absolutely nothing. Even though the

If there's something strange in your neighborhood, who should you call? No, not Ghostbusters! Below is a list of key contacts and ways they can help. • Emergency? Call 911. • Non-emergency crime? Call the Mesa Police non-emergency line at 480-644-2211. • Community questions? Call the Association offices Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm at 380-357-8780. • After-hours questions? Call our patrol team weekdays 3 pm – 5 am, Saturdays 10 am – 5 am, and Sundays 11 am – 5 am at 480-220-1794.

Making friends with your neighbors is a great way to create a safer community.

incident was on video, we could not see who or what was lurking in the dark. The experience led me to research ways to make my neighborhood safer. Since Las Sendas is a second home to me, I wanted to share what I learned. A 2020 article on safewise.com lists several ways to keep our neighborhoods safe. Below are their top three suggestions and how Las Sendas supports safer enclaves. 1 | Make friends with your neighbors. CCMC is committed to building community by bringing people together in the neighborhoods where they live and in offices where they work. Simply put, we create experiences that connect people. Aside from next year's 29 proposed events, we will launch quarterly new owner game nights. Participants will meet neighbors and our onsite team members in a fun, interactive way. 2 | Organize neighborhood safety efforts. The Security and Safety Committee will soon launch a campaign in collaboration with the City of Mesa Crime Prevention Department to provide safety tips and revitalize the Neighborhood Watch Program. 3 | Keep up your yard. A well-kept yard and parking all vehicles within your garage can help deter crime. Trimmed foliage and stored cars offer fewer places to hide. Every four weeks, we tour all enclaves (55) and send notices when maintenance is needed. We are all in this together and can do our part to make the places we live and work safe. If you have experience in this field, consider volunteering on the Security and Safety Committee. Please email me at knau@mylassendas.org for more information.

BOARD BITS:

You Can Help WITH FIRE PREVENTION Tony Reid | Vice President, Association Board of Directors

As a Las Sendas Community Association Board Member, one of the things that residents regularly ask me about is fire prevention. As many of you know, Las Sendas is in the City of Mesa Desert Uplands area. The Association owns almost 1000 acres of common area — most of which is unmaintained — and has 2.5 miles of border with the Tonto National Forest. The Desert Uplands guidelines restrict the amount and type of maintenance allowed in natural open spaces, which increases the risk of property damage if a fire breaks out. Due to high temperatures, low rainfall, and lots of vegetation growth, some of the common areas have been identified by the city and state as having a high fire risk. In order to protect our community, the Board has identified 121 acres of common area in need of some level of fire mitigation and approved approximately $112,000 in the 2021 budget to address our common area fire mitigation needs. In addition to addressing the common areas, each homeowner should also take action to protect their private property.

What can you do? • Remove heavy accumulations of ground litter and debris. • Routinely remove plant debris from your roof and gutters. • Move combustible material like wood and patio furniture 30 feet from your home. • Remove or trim tree branches that touch the ground or your home. • Trim dense areas of trees and shrubs and remove dead and dry plant material from trees and shrubs within 30 feet of your home. • If you own a custom lot, be sure to contact the City of Mesa before removing vegetation outside of your building envelope. The fire mitigation steps taken by the Las Sendas Community Association and homeowners might not prevent a fire from starting, but should help minimize the negative impact one might have on our community.

A Letter from STRWG to Las Sendas Homeowners Zuzana Zhanel | Short-Term Rental Working Group Member

To all Las Sendas residents/homeowners: We need your help! Based on the work done by the Short Term Rental Working Group (STRWG), the Las Sendas Board will be bringing forward a proposed amendment to the Las Sendas CC&Rs this fall prohibiting rental periods shorter than 31 days. The goals of the proposed amendment include safeguarding the quality of life in Las Sendas and aligning our governing documents with those of other nearby master-planned communities. Any amendment of the CC&Rs requires approval by 75% of eligible voters, so it will be critical to get every homeowner to vote on the proposed amendment. The STRWG is looking for volunteers from each enclave to serve as enclave ambassadors. The role of these ambassadors would be to connect with their neighbors, offer opportunities for them to meet to spread the word about the upcoming vote, and encourage them to vote. We will host a training session to provide everyone with more information. Being an ambassador is a perfect opportunity to meet your neighbors and get more involved in our wonderful community. If you are willing to help out by serving as an ambassador in your enclave, please contact the STRWG at lassendasSTRWG@gmail.com.

Association Fees

ARE A BARGAIN! Jon Englund | Finance Committee Member

The discussion of association fees always makes for some riveting party conversation — just kidding! It’s actually one of the most boring topics I can think of, especially as a Las Sendas resident. Sadly, folks living in other communities with an HOA often pay fees equal to or higher than Las Sendas for far fewer amenities. In my profession, I spend time in different communities and I see what amenities they offer their residents as well as the HOA fees charged. It is not uncommon for a community to charge their residents $150 to $175 per month for a gated entrance, playground, and possibly a bike path or basketball court (Tonto Forest Estates, Granite Ridge, Trovita Estates, and Adobe Meadows to name a few). This is a far cry from our multiple pools, spas, wading pools, sports courts (pickleball, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and bocce ball), softball/baseball field, awesome splash pad, pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, hiking and biking opportunities, and access to the Tonto National Forest. On top of all that, we are surrounded by beauty and have one of the best golf courses in the valley. We certainly enjoy reasonable assessments for the vast array of amenities here in Las Sendas. And as residents, we can all pat ourselves on the back for making the good decision to live in a community that is well-managed and well-funded so we can enjoy such a great place to live. By any measure, Las Sendas is a bargain!

Safety and Security UPDATES Fred Glenn | Security and Safety Committee Member

keep it secure. Some of the things we reviewed include historical crime activity within a two-mile radius, current police presence, and the cost of possible contracted security services. The board will review this information and determine what services are needed in the upcoming year.

It's been a busy summer for the Las Sendas Community Association Safety and Security committee! Below you’ll find a few updates on projects we’ve been working on that contribute to our neighborhoods. • The amenities access project is complete! Las Sendas amenities, including the pools, tennis courts, and pickleball courts, are now accessible with one secure card. If you still haven’t picked up your new amenity access card, stop by the Trailhead office during regular business hours. •

Our enclave vehicle gate project continues and is on schedule. Some of the new features include RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) readers and stickers that allow for seamless gate opening when you drive up. Cellular connections are also being improved to permit all domestic area codes, allowing gates to be opened remotely without giving out your code. You’ll receive an email when your enclave vehicle gates are getting these upgrades.

We continue to review security and safety options for Las Sendas. We want to ensure that our community is as safe as possible for all residents and evaluate all potential options to

We are just beginning to discuss a reimplementation of the Neighborhood Watch program. We have just recently taken over this project from the Short-Term Rental Working Group and plan to work in conjunction with the City of Mesa on revamping this program.

With all the critical work we are doing, we could use a few new members. Our group charter, which outlines our responsibilities, is available online at mylasendas.org > My Association Business > Committees and Groups. If you are interested in joining our committee, applications are also available online, or you can pick one up in person at the Trailhead. Now is a great time to join as we are planning next year’s projects. Alternatively, you are always welcome to attend our meetings which are open to all residents. Meeting dates are available on page 24, as well as on the community website calendar. Thanks for doing your part in keeping our community safe — we are grateful to have each of you as our neighbors.

YOUR FRIENDLY REMINDER Making home modifications, alterations, repairs, or improvements? Great! Don’t forget that you must receive Architectural Review Committee (ARC) approval for anything done to the exterior of your home — including your front yard or backyard. Starting a project without prior approval can result in added costs for the homeowner. Please visit our website at mylassendas.org and navigate to > MY HOME > MODIFY MY HOME to view the most current Design Guidelines and Design Review Application.

TIPS

FOR AT HOME MASSAGE AND STRETCH

Things Your Massage Therapist Wants You to Know • Get naked if you want. Or don’t. Undressing to your comfort level will result in you getting your best massage. • Get in your exercise before your massage. While the muscles might be a bit tired from exercise, the massage will work to alleviate that soreness. • Ask for your preferred massage type when you book your appointment. This way, the therapist can have things ready for you when you arrive. • Visit the restroom just before your appointment to avoid any embarrassing gas issues. If you find that you have to go during your massage, you can tell your therapist — they will understand. • Tell them what you want! Do not be afraid to tell the therapist if you want them to rub your shoulders harder or your calves more gently. • Avoid talking about politics, religion, or other controversial subjects. • If you experience any soreness after a massage, it’s normal. They ARE working your muscles.

A Foot Rocker/ Calf Stretcher holds the foot in the proper position to stretch and strengthen the muscles, ligaments and tendons of the foot and lower leg. • Increases flexibility and strength to help prevent and treat injuries. • Provides a deep stretch to effectively relieve pain associated with Plantar Fasciitis or arch pain, ankle strains, tight calf muscles, shin splints and other common conditions.

Get the Most Out of Your Massage Session • Don’t eat a heavy meal or drink alcohol just before your session. • A warm shower before your appointment will help to relax your body. • Be on time. • Talk with your therapist beforehand if you have any issues you want to address. • Breathe normally. • Try to relax — the therapist isn’t there to judge your cellulite, love handles, or unshaved legs.

Massage Guns are designed to combat muscle soreness and aid recovery. • Provides a deep tissue massage, achieved through rapid percussive movements that stimulate muscles, enhance blood flow and soften knots. • Can effectively relieve muscle fatigue and pain, promote blood circulation, and relieve lactic acid.

FROM YOUR MASSAGE EXPERT

Keep That Blissful, Post-Massage Feeling • Schedule Smart. While you sometimes have no choice but to schedule a massage during your lunch hour, if possible schedule it as late as possible so you can go home and relax. • Keep the Calm. Don’t get in your car and crank up the heavy metal or listen to the news. Put on some relaxing music. • Dress for It. Change into some loose, comfortable clothing after your massage. • Eat Light. Avoid chowing down on a big meal right after your massage. • Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water after your massage. • Avoid stressful situations if at all possible.

PATRICIA PHILLIPS LPN, LE Las Sendas Spa Aesthetician

Goodbye Botox!

HELLO PLASMA FIBROBLAST

Have you heard the buzz about the newest cosmetic procedure to combat wrinkles, loss of collagen, and sagging skin? The Plasma Pen is the world’s most advanced, non-invasive, skin-lifting, skin-tightening, and rejuvenation device used to treat wrinkles and sagging, dull skin. The Plasma Pen is an FDA approved, CE approved device used to perform fibroblast therapy, a technique used to stimulate production of collagen in the skin. As we age, the dermal layer of our skin thins, we produce less collagen, and we lose elasticity. All of these factors produce sagging and wrinkling of the skin. The Plasma Pen is a soft-surgery procedure targeting a wide variety of skin conditions that have been traditionally treated with fillers or plastic surgery. HOW DOES THE PLASMA PEN WORK? Plasma Pen converts electrical energy into gaseous diatomic molecular nitrogen and transmits that energized gas in a non-contact way to the skin’s surface from above. This causes a micro-trauma to the skin’s epidermal layer (top layers) whilst simultaneously heating and disrupting the deeper dermal structure via thermal conduction. This treatment is also known as fibroblasting. Fibroblasts are the most common cells of connective tissue in the body that produce collagen. A certified and highly trained technician uses the Plasma Pen to deliver plasma fibroblasting. The plasma significantly tightens, lifts, resurfaces, and regenerates practically any area of the skin.

BETTER THAN COSMETIC SURGERY With the Plasma Pen, there is no injectable anesthetic required. No scalpel, no cutting, and no ablation of the skin. There are no stitches and no scars. It is a very low-risk procedure with minimal side effects and short downtime. Plasma Pen produces no thinning of the skin and is more uniform than ablative resurfacing using lasers. Additionally, a Plasma Pen procedure is cost-effective and has long-lasting results — usually around 2-3 years — and can be permanent.

THE EVOLUTION OF

BARRE

The low impact movement of a Barre Fitness class doesn't mean it's easy. Barre has evolved into a full-body blast workout. The concept is lighter weight, little rest, more reps and bodyweight resistance to keep you building functional muscle. You can expect to burn and shape muscles you didn't know you had. Plus, it's fun! Who doesn't like a good playlist, group class accountability, and a mood-boosting workout to top it all off. The traditional Barre movement has been given a high-energy, functional strength makeover! The students love the variety of muscle groups being worked in a short amount of time and the versatility that Barre Fitness offers is why it's an absolute FAVORITE!

You can expect to burn and shape muscles you didn't know you had. P lus, it's fun! TRY IT FREE!

Tanya loves teaching Barre and challenging herself to keep the workout exciting for her students. She's passionate about barre because it's not just the traditional gym setting, and after years of doing competitive dance she enjoys having a workout she can look forward to. She started teaching the class in 2010 and loves that it still challenges her physically and mentally. One thing Tanya always says is "Bodyweight is NO JOKE."

COACHES CORNER: MARK SWARTZ C.S.C.S./NSCA-CPT

MAKE TIME for Proper Training If you have the time for injuries and rehab, why not the time for proper training? This question may seem callous, but there is some truth to it in regards to your training, especially if you participate in pickleball, golf, tennis, or other competitive adult athletic activities. Let’s look briefly at three factors adult athletes must deal with: The first factor is aging. Second is the amount of time engaged in our sport, and the third factor is the amount of time we are training. The first one you can’t do much about. The second one you probably want to do as much as your life allows. The third is often neglected. “What type of training are you talking about?” you may ask. Well, I’ll narrow it down to strength training and mobility training. The topic of strength training could fill a hundred issues of Las Sendas Living, and since I addressed mobility in the last issue, I’ll focus on that, specifically ankle, hip, and shoulder mobility. The actual mobility exercises will have to wait until the next issue — first you need to determine if you have an immobility. Mobility assessments are a valuable tool, made popular by the Functional Movement Screen and the TPI Screen. Pictured are three samples from those screens. Immobilities or asymmetries detected should be given corrective exercises to improve the deficiencies. Less-than-optimal mobility could lead to a greater risk for injury. Videos on how these tests are administered and scored will be on the Las Sendas Fitness Center Facebook page.

| Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie

The right ingredients in your food can be the best and safest sources of "medicine." And while food can be medicine, it doesn’t have to taste like it. This smoothie is definitely proof of that, as it is one of the best tasting things you could ever whip up in a blender. You’ll love it and your body will love it just as much.

Anti-Inflammatory Tropical Pineapple Smoothie | 225 cal INGREDIENTS • 1 banana (fresh or frozen) • 1 cup frozen mango chunks • ¼ cup full-fat coconut milk (optional, but recommend)

• 1 ¼ cups frozen pineapple chunks • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric • ½ cup coconut water

INSTRUCTIONS • Add all ingredients to blender and blend together. Enjoy!!

A key activity of the Las Sendas Corvette Club is organizing monthly cruises to local sites of interest where members can drive and enjoy their Corvettes. Most of these are day trips, but the club plans a longer trip for more time out on the open roads once a year. Eight club members recently returned from one such longer road trip adventure to Spearfish, South Dakota, where they attended the Black Hills Corvette Classic rally. This was the 50th summer in a row that Corvette owners from all over the United States have driven to the Black Hills of South Dakota to attend this annual rally. The four-day event included group driving tours through the Black Hills National Forest to Mount Rushmore, Chief Crazy Horse, and Devils Tower monuments, along with dinners, music, car shows, an art festival, and more — and the 600+ Corvettes attending made for a colorful showing throughout the area. It was great to get out on the road again, and cruising in a Vette is a fantastic way to enjoy ‘America the Beautiful.’ If you own a Corvette and have a similar passion for sharing the experience of these wonderful cars, join us. Ms. Andrea Polyak started dancing when she was two years old. She grew up dancing at Bridget McCarter Dance Academy in Gilbert and competed at the state and national levels in tap, jazz, and lyrical styles. Andrea has been teaching dance since she was 12 years old and adores that her passion has become her job. She loves being a positive influence on young people and coaching them through tumbling, tap, ballet, and more. Though she now calls Queen Creek home, Andrea has taught classes at Las Sendas for more than 20 years. Her love of teaching and performing is evident as she walks into the Trailhead each week to teach our Las Sendas littles.

She offers classes for those as young as four through those preparing for college tennis. Adult tennis and pickleball clinics, workshops, and leagues are offered year round at Las Sendas. Lori and her staff also offer private and semi-private lessons for the adult and junior player.

A Celebration of Pickleball The Las Sendas Drop-In Pickleball group celebrated the 1st National Pickleball Day on August 8th. Thanks to a couple of women in Oregon who worked to get the day officially registered, the sport now has its own national day of recognition. To inaugurate this day, the Las Sendas Drop-In group chose to celebrate with an exhibition game, played by four of our outstanding Las Sendas players — Sue Steele, Hugo Marquez, and Ken and Rubin Osorio. They played three awesome games in our Arizona 105 degree heat! All family members of the group were invited to cheer the players on as they showed us their best Pickleball moves. Afterwards, we celebrated with a champagne toast and took a group photo to commemorate our 1st National Pickleball day. What an awesome Pickleball Community we have here in Las Sendas!

Schools Resources AND

Friends & Family of

LAS SENDAS ELEMENTARY By Jennifer Berkshire, President, Las Sendas Elementary PTO

The Las Sendas PTO has two missions this year: make sure that our children have a healthy year following the pandemic and support the newly implemented STEM program. Three ways we are planning on doing this: 1 | Increasing hydration stations. We currently have water fountains around campus that are not filtered and are not refrigerated. Our goal is to replace existing water fountains with Elkay filtered, refrigerated bottle filling stations. 2 | Increasing shade for UV protection. There are three commercial sunshades on the back playground that provide comfort from the sun while our students are outside. We would like to add three more commercial sunshades to accommodate more students and create a larger area of shade. 3 | Provide supplies and tools for the STEM program. Immediate needs would include supplies and storage for current year’s projects. Long-term goals would be CAD programming, 3-D printers, CNC machines, and repurposing space to allow access for all students to be exposed to STEM technology.

You can recieve a commemorative personalized engraved brick with your donation to the Las Sendas PTO As a community member you can help! Check out the Friends and Family Campaign on our website at lspto.org and select a level of donation that is comfortable for your family. To commemorate this mission, the PTO will add to the path of engraved bricks at the entrance of our school. Your donation is tax-deductible and could possibly be matched by your employer. (For example, Boeing matches dollar for dollar up to $6000 per year, per employee.) Every dollar counts, and 100% of the proceeds go directly to Las Sendas PTO’s mission. Thank you so much for your continued support of the Las Sendas Elementary School!

ENJOY A NIGHT OUT for a Good Cause! The Monthly Dining Night Out program partners with local restaurants to return a portion of the proceeds to the Las Sendas Elementary School PTO.

By Bill Jabjiniak, City of Mesa Economic Development Director

Despite the more than 16-month long pandemic, the City of Mesa Office of Economic Development (OED) had a banner fiscal year supporting the retention and creation of quality jobs while promoting investment to increase prosperity and improve life for Mesa’s residents. Northeast Mesa has seen its share of economic development projects during the last 12 months. In August 2020, Amazon announced it would make a significant investment in facilities across the Phoenix-Mesa metro including a 150,000-square-foot delivery station in Mesa's Falcon District at the southeast corner of Higley Road and Longbow Parkway.

The Boeing Company began construction of a new 155,000-square-foot facility at the northeast corner of Greenfield and McDowell Roads. Home2 Suites completed its 111-room hotel located within the Longbow Business Park. South of Falcon Field Airport, Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials completed its 90,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, adding more than 150 new jobs and BEMO completed its 110,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters. Atlis Motor Vehicles, a manufacturer of electric trucks, located its global headquarters and 43,000-squarefoot manufacturing facility on Higley Road, south of the airport. Construction began on the Mesa Hangars at Falcon Field, a $65 million investment in a six-building, 350,000-square-foot hangar/office complex, expected to be completed at the end of this year. These projects are just a sample of all that is happening in northeast Mesa, and we expect more. Amazon’s 150,000-square-foot delivery station located at Higley Road and Longbow Parkway.

NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION MONTH By Michele Long, Fire & Life Safety Education Administrator, Community Outreach Division, Mesa Fire & Medical Department

October is National Fire Prevention Month. Before you stop reading and think, “I already know about fire safety…” did you know that the Mesa Fire and Medical Department responded to over 4,201 fire incidents in Mesa in 2020? We received 68,789 total calls last year. Many of our fire calls included cooking fires, vent fires, electrical overheating fires, and attic fires. All are preventable. Here are a few tips straight from the Mesa Fire and Medical Department: • When cooking on the stovetop, stand by your pan. For ovens, stay in your home and monitor. In case of small fires, turn off the appliance. Use a lid to cover your pot. Do not open your oven. • Bathroom vents should be cleaned each year to remove dust and other particles. Limit use to 20 minutes or less to keep from overheating. Install a timer to help. • Dryer venting should be cleaned once a year — and lint traps every day (or more, depending on the items). • Do not forget to put a new battery in your smoke alarm annually and replace the unit every ten years (including hard-wired ones). Though they may still beep, the sensors wear out.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS THAT LAS SENDAS RESIDENTS MAY HAVE ABOUT FALCON FIELD

Fly Friendly:

Q: What are the airport’s hours of operation? A: The FAA requires that Falcon Field remain open 24/7. Fly Friendly guidelines request that pilots refrain from repetitive training operations between 10 pm and 5:30 am.

By Dee Anne Thomas, MPA, Marketing/Communications Specialist, City of Mesa - Falcon Field Airport

Q: How busy is Falcon Field? A: Activity levels at airports are measured based on the number of aircraft operations in and above an airport area. In 2020, Falcon Field experienced 314,167 operations.

FALCON FIELD AIRPORT Falcon Field Airport, located approximately six miles southwest of the Las Sendas neighborhood, works with Mesa residents and pilots through its Fly Friendly Program to minimize the effects of flight operations on the surrounding community. The airfield has been in operation since September 1941, when it opened as a pilot training base during World War II. Today Falcon Field is an economic hub that includes more than 110 businesses and provides approximately 1,400 jobs with an annual economic impact of $811 million to the local and regional economy. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations prohibit the City from imposing flight restrictions that limit access to the airport, such as restrictions on the hours of flight operations and bans on specific aviation businesses and aircraft types. The City cannot fine pilots or prohibit pilots from flying into or out of the airport. The FAA is the only government agency with authority to direct and control pilots and aircraft in flight. That being said, a task force of stakeholders, including Mesa residents and Falcon Field pilots, developed voluntary noise abatement practices back in 2009. These guidelines are regularly shared with the aviation community for use when they are operating at Falcon Field. They include recommendations regarding repetitive training operations, traffic patterns and turns, and engine power reductions during takeoffs and landings. Ultimately, a pilot controls their aircraft and has the authority to make decisions about that aircraft for safety reasons. Since safety always comes first, these decisions may conflict with recommended aircraft noise abatement practices.

Q: What are the rules regarding how low an aircraft can fly over residential areas? A: Aircraft altitude is regulated by the FAA. However, most aircraft operating in the vicinity of Falcon Field are landing or taking off. The minimum altitude (1,006 feet) does not apply in those instances, nor for helicopter operations. Q: What is the City doing about noise over residential areas? A: In 2009, a task force of stakeholders, including Mesa residents, developed voluntary noise abatement practices. These guidelines are regularly shared with the aviation community for use when they are operating at Falcon Field. To view the guidelines, visit falconfieldairport.com/my-community/fly-friendly-program/ noise-abatement. Q: Why don’t aircraft fly over the desert to the north and northeast of the airport instead of over residential neighborhoods? A: Aircraft flight paths are determined based on several factors, including the direction of the prevailing wind, weather conditions, and airspace constraints. Sometimes aircraft must fly over residential areas for safety. Q: What can the City do to keep airplanes from flying over my neighborhood? A: Once a pilot communicates with the FAA air traffic control tower and takes off, the aircraft is under the authority of the FAA and the pilot. Q: How can I submit a comment about aircraft noise? A: Concerns about aircraft noise can be submitted online at apps.mesaaz.gov/FalconField/Comments or call 480-644-6647. Q: Who should I contact about aircraft safety concerns? A: Concerns about low-flying or potentially unsafe flight incidents should be filed with the FAA Flight Standards District Office at 480-284-7840.

HOME THE WILLIAMS FAMILY Cachet | The Legend model

Rosann Williams says that when they decided to downsize she knew she wanted to be in Cachet. “I love the close-knit, supportive sense of a communitywithin-a-community.” And when they came across this particular end unit, what a pleasant surprise — it had a large, private backyard that faced the golf course. But the home needed some work. The 21-year-old townhome hadn’t seen many upgrades. There were some gorgeous wood floors added, but only in one area — leaving a living space with three different types of flooring. So, the plan was to start with the kitchen, floors, and paint. However, before long it evolved into a complete renovation. “I don’t know — I got started and it just morphed. In the end I don’t think there was any surface we didn’t change.” Besides the wood floors continuing throughout the home, and the beautiful, open and bright kitchen remodel — which is now Rosann’s favorite room — the bathrooms, fireplace, windows, patio and even the garage, all received updates. All the landscaping was redone, and the backyard makeover is spectacular. “Moving and renovating during the pandemic was really difficult, especially getting supplies and finding consistent contractors,” says Rosann. “I am really glad it’s over and completely thrilled with the results!”

Featured YARD

DICK AND MARCIA WILSON | Diamond Point

THE WILSON ARBORETUM Our Diamond Point property is home to nearly 500 cacti, 200 plants, and 18 trees — but it was a long time in the making. After Dick graduated from the US Naval Academy and our wedding in 1958, we set off on an exciting 30-year Navy career. Our life was nomadic, challenging, and fun! We moved our home 24 times during this period, including to three overseas assignments in Japan, Italy, and Belgium. We intended for our “last move” to be retirement in San Diego County; however, after a few years there, we were inspired to build our current home here in Las Sendas. We were fascinated with the southwest architecture and the magnificent blooms that desert cacti and plants produce. In appreciation for the unique history and ambiance of this area, we worked with our architect to design a house in the Southwest (or territorial) style. Lots of study and professional help allowed us to develop our property into what we think is a unique showcase. It has taken 15 years of work to turn our yard into the beautiful desert garden that it is today.
