Red Kites were reintroduced to Yorkshire in 1999. Over the past month Rachel has been researching the history and purpose of their assisted translocation, the implications for ecology, biodiversity, ethics, local economies and the interaction and relationship between Red Kites and Humans.

‘Milvus milvus’ is a research project by artist and writer Rachel Magdeburg. Rachel’s current work focuses on issues relating to the reintroduction of the Red Kite, a bird of prey, to Britain. As part of her residency she has been photographing artefacts and locations, meeting people directly involved with the reintroduction, talking to experts within Biological Sciences and observing Red Kites, both dead and alive.
