East Street Arts is a national arts organisation with a mission to support the development of artists.

In 2010 East Street Arts developed a strategic approach to link artists and creative practitioners to empty spaces. Moving in and out of a range of spaces across the country, including offices, warehouses, shops, post civic spaces and night clubs, the response artists and other creatives have to these spaces has never ceased to amaze. The organisation is now the largest provider of temporary spaces to the arts sector with over 60 buildings at any one time spanning from Gateshead to London.

Benefits for landlords There are many benefits we can offer landlords who have vacant premises: Assistance with maintenance costs of empty properties. Occupation helps maintain your buildings. The presence of artists in buildings avoids vandalism associated with empty sites. Artists generate activity and contribute to the regeneration or development of areas. Activities offer artists and landlords opportunities for learning and developing new opportunities.

Benefits for civic partners We need to take care of our urban environment collectively to ensure our towns and cities are the kinds of places we want to live and thrive in. Utilising temporary spaces: Improves the appearance of towns and builds a positive reputation for innovation. Creates culturally diverse and vibrant areas for residents and visitors. Creates curiosity and harnesses footfall. Builds relationships between users, landlords and other partners. Creates incubation spaces for new developments that retain talent in the area.
