Ook is er veel aandacht voor het exterieur, zodat het object past in haar omgeving en binnen en buiten zoveel mogelijk één geheel vormen. Daarbij wordt ook veel rekening gehouden met het praktisch zijn en de juiste huiselijke sfeer, bijvoorbeeld door antiek te mixen met nieuw waardoor uw huis geen showroom wordt. Ook gaat de aandacht uit naar natuurlijke materialen. Nu we alweer 2,5 jaar in de Costa Blanca Noord wonen, kennen we intussen de pareltjes om bijvoorbeeld uw keuken of sanitair uit te zoeken, maar ook de super toffe marktjes voor de accessoires met een verhaal. Deze keuken is bijvoorbeeld van Creativ Cocinas. Ook ga ik graag shoppen met u en kunnen we onderweg een lekker eetadresje aandoen. Naast Nederlands, Engels en Duits spreek ik ook genoeg Spaans ;)

e legend has it that it was the Archangel Miguel who started the town of San Miguel de Salinas when he created the church here in the early 1500s. At the same time, people started living in these caves due to lack of material to built traditional houses. Caldo gallego

bunch of turnip tops Grelos de Galicia, kale or chard (or be creative with other veggies) • 2 large potatoes (cubed) • 2 carrots (sliced) • 500 ml vegetable broth • 1 teaspoon paprika • Salt and black pepper

• Meat lovers add: pork fat and tocino (or pancetta) - ham smoked chorizo

Method

• Heat the vegetable broth and beans together over medium heat. Once boiling add the potato and carrot cubes. Make sure the broth is covering the ingredients. Add water if necessary. Simmer for 15 minutes.

• Season with salt, black pepper and paprika, and add the greens. Simmer for 5 minutes.

• If using meat add the ham, pork fat and chorizo • Serve with big chunks of brown bread

The base of the Spanish gin is made from wine using parellada and xarel-lo grapes from the Penedès region, famous for its cava. However, other production details and ingredients remain closely guarded distillery secrets. Before bottling, some of the gins like Xoriguer Gin de Mahón mature in oak barrels.

Vino caliente or mulled wine is known almost everywhere in the world where Christmas falls in winter and it is definitely one of the best winter drinks ever.

Vino caliente is perfect for warming up your Christmas party and boosting the holiday spirit as well.

Vino caliente is very similar to the classic hot spiced red wine but with a touch of fresh citrus aroma. It is in a way the hot version of sangria plus all the spices, oranges and other fruit as well. It is not too strong and is even loved by those who are not a big fan of red wine. Here is the recipe for this hug in a mug.

Vino Caliente

IngredIents (for 6 persons)

• 1 bottle of red wine

• 1 tsp ground nutmeg

• 2 tsp ground ginger

• 5-10 cloves

• 25 cl fresh orange juice

• 25 cl water

• 2-3 tsp brown sugar • 10 cl Spanish brandy

• 6 anise stars

• 6 cinnamon sticks

• 6 orange slices

• Be creative with other fruits Method

• Heat all ingredients over medium fire for 10 minutes, try not to boil

• Serve hot in mugs or tea glasses

• Decorate every glass with one anise star, a cinnamon stick and an orange slice

• Serve with home made cookies

Caldo Gallego is one of the signature stews of Galicia in northwestern Spain. Your guests will love it. Caldo Gallego is a rich and delicious meal soup in which you can express

all your chef creativity. It usually contains ham, carrots, turnips and of course creamy local white beans. Vegetarians can easily omit the meat or replace it with a vegan alternative.

If you have time, you can cook dried beans. But a can or jar of beans can be just as tasty in this Caldo Gallego. Here is the delicious recipe...

With a long tradition and history of wine making and abundantly growing citrus fruits and botanicals, Spain has become home to many wonderful gin distilleries. With the gin industry booming in recent years, Spain offers inspiration and some gorgeous wild botanicals that produce great gins. From city distilleries in Madrid through to island distilleries on Majorca and Menorca, there are gins and distilleries for everyone to enjoy in Spain. Discover Spain’s best gins.

Spain has become famous for ‘Gintonica’. While the British traditionally served a G&T in a tall Collins glass, the Spanish ramped this up with bowl-shaped Copa glasses, large amounts of ice and often impressive garnishes. This style of serving has now spread around the world.

Gin Mare

Launched in 2008 Gin Mare is produced in a converted chapel at Distilerias Miquel Guanse on the Costa Dorada. It is a Mediterranean styled gin and was one of the first mainstream contemporary gins, featuring botanicals including rosemary, thyme, olive and basil.

Transformed into a sport discipline, cross-country skiing is a type of skiing in which the person makes a glide on the snow on flat land or with very little slope. It is easier than making descents and can be done by children and adults, since it does not require an athletic physical shape. Here are the most outstanding places to go.

Gabardito Circuit (Huesca, Aragón)

Right next to the shelter of the same name, part of the Camille trail, the Oza-Gabarbito station and its circuit are in the Hecho Valley. Among pine forests, beech forests and natural meadows, it is integrated by a common stretch on a forest trail that is then divided into three tracks of different lengths and difficulties in the Oza Forest, for a 9 km total where you can practice cross-country skiing. These tracks take advantage of the beech woods to mark its Blue track (6 km) that reaches up to 1,600 m. of height at the foot of Mount La Cuta. There is also for beginners a Red Course, 835 m and 2 green

intermediate courses of 2050 m. Around the tracks there is a shelter with bar, lounge and a fireplace. In the shelter you may rent all the equipment for cross-country skiing, in case you do not want to bring your own.

Puerto de Cotos Circuit (Guadarrama Sierra, Madrid) Thanks to the official maintenance of the Community of Madrid, this cross-country skiing circuit is completely open and free of charge, from the north end of the Los Cotos car park to where the work of stepping on the snow is carried out. This includes a route of up to 5 km in the area of La Pradera. Belonging to the La Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, this circuit is suitable for the two types of cross-country skiing (classic and skating) and has a beginner’s area.

Larra-Belagua Nordic ski resort (Isaba, Navarra)

Between large pine forests and with a slope between 2,000 and 2,200 meters, the snow stays here for several months during the winter, which makes the season very attractive for cross-country skiing enthusiasts. It has equipment rental services and ski school for beginners. In total, there are 25 km of tracks to enjoy skiing.

Le Somport-Candanchú Station (France-Spain)

On the Franco-Spanish border and surrounded by beautiful landscapes, the Somport ski resort has a total of 35 km of crosscountry skiing trails, all of which are perfectly marked through open spaces and beech forests.

In the heart of the National Park of the Pyrenees, it covers the range of colours of the slopes, from white beginners to expert blacks. In total there are 9 tracks, 8 cross-country skiing and a 5 km snowshoe track, thanks to merge of Le Somport and Candanchú circuits, which since 2006 has received the FIS homologation certificate. The payment of access to tracks is valid for the set of all Candanchú-Le Somport circuits, entering the same for the Spanish part as the French one.

Navafría Nordic ski resort (Guadarrama Sierra, MadridSegovia)

The Navafría Nordic ski resort is another option for skiing without going too far from the capital, with a lot of tracks to enjoy. It has a 5 km, high difficulty track for the experienced, two tracks of medium level with a total of 14 km and a 2 km tracks for those who start in the cross-country skiing. In total, there are about 22 km of fun for snow lovers. In addition to cross-country skiing, there are facilities for practicing snowshoes, Nordic walking and roller ski.

Pineta cross-country skiing resort (Aragonese Pyrenees, Huesca)

Located in the National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido, in Huesca, the Pineta station is oriented only to cross-country skiing. It has four circuits: Felguera,

ideal for beginners and only 1 km in length; Pradas, with 2 km through an almost magical forest; Ronatiza, longer and technically harder with its 11 km, and finally, Mañaneto, the prolongation of Ronatiza with 8 km and suitable for specialists only.

With 23 km of tracks and 1,200 meters of altitude, this station also hosts other winter activities such as a snow park and ice climbing.

Vegarada ski resort (Cordillera Cantábrica, León-Asturias)

At the head of the Curueño river is the Vegarada circuit and station, in a triangle that includes Redipuertas, Riopinos and the Vegarada pass. In this space, Valdelugueros Town Hall has delimited five free tracks for free cross-country skiing. Conditioned, maintained and marked by the Town Hall, they are an open invitation during the winter season to fit the skis.

With altitudes ranging between 1,350 and 1,770 m and different degrees of difficulty, these trails are excellent both for those who wish to start in the activity and for expert skiers, who use these routes to train for top-level competitions. Also noteworthy is the work of those in charge of this circuit in the education and physical preparation of young people of school age.

Tuixent-La Vansa station (Lleida, Cataluya)

Located in the Pla del Arp, in the massif of Port del Comte, this

station and its tracks are to the south of Sierra del Cadí. Opened in 1978 it is one of the oldest dedicated to cross-country skiing in Spain.

With 30 km of cross-country trails at slopes between 1,830 and 2,150 meters which run between mountain forests, the station of Tuixent-La Vansa has first class services.

For all tastes, the station has a green circuit of 1.8 km, a blue one of 7.5 km, another red of 13 km and for experts only it has a black circuit of 10 km. It also allocates 3.5 km for the practice of rollerski.

Sant Joan de l’Erm Nordic ski resort

Another of the pioneer stations of cross-country skiing in Spain, the Sant Joan de l’Erm station was opened in the early 70’s in the Natural Park of the High Pyrenees. Its tracks cover a total of 50 km, divided over 7 km of green circuit, 15 km of blue circuit, 26 km of red circuit and 2 demanding black circuit km for the most experienced.

These tracks go between vast and untamed forests of red pine, black pine, fir and birch between Alt Urgell and Pallars Sobirà. The altitude ranges between 1,700 m and 2,050 m. The station has La Basseta shelter, with 93 accommodation places.

When winter comes, everyone wants the snow to cover the mountains for a wide variety of this season’s exclusive sports. One of the most beloved attractions for the whole family is sledding. Kids love sledding. Wonderfully adventurous and ideal for the whole family to spend a day together. It’s something different than skiing or snowboarding. Another favourable feature is that it is not necessary to pay a ticket from the ski station, as the activity can be carried out in lower zones. Just a slope covered with snow is enough to just sit on the sled and turn gravity to their will.

Each winter resort also offers specially constructed sledding tracks. They are usually long, beautiful and safe tracks for sledding only. Wonderfully adventurous. Biography

Rolf Jan van der Wal was born in 1954 in Hilversum, The Netherlands.

He graduated from the Art college in Utrecht. He attended esthetic and graphic design education. After college he started teaching two and three dimensional art and art history and did so for 38 years.

As a Dutch artist Rolf is very well known for his amazing two-dimensional artwork which is carefully drawn and painted by hand, with oil- or acrylic paint, soft pastels, color pencils or Indian ink on paper or canvas.

Rolf has gained his fame through exhibitions, work in commission, in various countries. He created his own sensational style of original, authentic, fine art.

He currently is retired from teaching and moved to Spain, where he still paints.

Suits with wide pants

Visiting the local market (or rastro as they are known in Spain) in the town where you live or going on holiday is the way of life on the Costa Blanca and is an experience not to be missed. Each town has a set day of the week for which a market is held every week. If you are on holiday you want to get to your local town’s market to experience a taste of Spanish culture. Here is the list of various locations and their market day of the week.

At the local markets you can buy all your fresh produce, from fruits and vegetables in season, fish, meat, cheese, olives, nuts, eggs, clothes, shoes, belts, handbags, kitchen utensils, music CDs, carpets, paintings, also items like chillies which are not readily available at the local supermarkets.

The produce is of the highest quality and much fresher than at the supermarket. Prices should be

cheaper than the local supermarkets so you will see plenty of local Spanish people at the market stocking up on fruit and veggies for their weeks cooking.

The Sunday markets tend to be rastro markets selling antiques, bric-a-brac and clothes. There are additional rastro markets in Calpe on Wednesday, Benidorm on Friday and Jalon on Saturday. These rastro markets are very popular and busy. You need to arrive by six in the morning, the first shoppers usually arrive between eight and nine in the morning and it costs around €5 to rent a stand or stall at the boot sale.

Watch your wallet and handbag and if possible keep your hand on it at all times. Pick pockets are very active and work in teams. Don’t become a victim and enjoy this unique shopping experience instead.
