WELCOME – FELT FAR MS B R AND OF EXCELLEN CE SA LE
Welcome Everyone!
On behalf of my family and my consignors, I would like to invite you to our 2nd Annual Brand of Excellence Bull Sale. I don’t really know where the last year went, but a lot of positive things have happened in the cattle industry and markets are trending upward. The demand for these SimAngus™ genetics is rising in popularity all the time and people are seeing the extra value that they bring to their operations. Once again, I have a few guest consigners and they have brought some great bulls and breeding pieces that I know people will appreciate sale day and years down the road. I know they are a lot like me and put a lot of time and effort into their breeding decisions and programs to strive to make better genetics every year. One thing that we haven’t changed from the past years is how we have fed and developed these bulls. We take great pride in developing these bulls on high roughage diets and use ADM’s Amino Gain which benefits the longevity of these bulls, helps with internal organ mass and helps with fertility which eliminates problems down the road. ]We feed these cattle to keep them looking like breeding cattle and not like a pen of fat bulls ready to go to town. We value all of our customers as friends and have been very fortunate to have many repeat customers. We are always in the market to buy back our customers calves to put in our feed yard or we can help you get your calves marketed the best way possible. This helps us to see what our genetics are doing as well. Feel free to call and talk about the bulls or any aspect of the cattle industry as we love talking about our genetics and cattle. Hope to see you all in West Point on the 15 of February. JAMES FELT

GREETINGS FROM SALE MANAGEMENT: Thursday, February 15th will kick off the 2nd Annual Brand of Excellence Bull Sale hosted by Felt Farms along with guest breeders of Roberts Simmental, Lost Grove Cattle and Nelson Angus. The sale offering is sure diversified this year which tells you that there is something for everyone’s program depending on the goal for your calf crop. We encourage you to visit with these breeders to discuss your needs for your breeding program. Ask yourself “What is the endpoint for my calves?” Perhaps your goal is to keep replacement heifers or you have your site set on selling your calves for the highest dollar at weaning. The breeders can then help you find the bull that will fill the bill for a profitable future based on phenotype, pedigree and the genetic merit of the EPDs. Please accept this as your personal invitation to view the bulls at the farm or prior to the sale at West Point Livestock Auctions. Feel free to call us at EE Inc, the breeders or any of the marketing reps. Remember also that we have liveauction. tv with us for your buying needs if your schedule does not allow you to be with us sale day. Looking forward to seeing you Feb. 15th

A double bred half blood calf that is real long bodied and attractive out through his front end. He will add a lot of value to a calf crop in a hurry.
This bull is out of last year’s show heifer that was Reserve Grand at the state fair. She is going to be one of our new donors as well. This bull is stout, deep and will add a lot of value to a set of calves. Mark him on your short list.

A purebred bull out of a first calf heifer that just gets better every day. His mother is a result of embryos bought from Bruce Kappes in South Dakota and goes back to their Sadie cow that has made a lot of herd sires around the country. He is bred well and expect him to be one that out produces himself.

BULL BUYERS GUIDE
56 Definitions of Terms Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat. Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters. Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning wt. due to milk. Marbling (MRB): Marbling score. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth. Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye. Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak. Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age. Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.
Explanation of How to Utilize API and TI Indexes First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described to the left, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a $50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For more information, visit www. simmental.org.
