Welcome to the Minnesota State Simmental Sale! MSA Queen Farewell from Gabby Nemitz
This past year has been an incredible journey as your Minnesota Simmental Queen. I have had the opportunity to meet so many new people and have made new friends, and have had the privilege of having so many talented and incredible mentors to work with. This year holds valuable memories for me as I have promoted and represented the Simmental breed and industry at county fairs, parades, the Minnesota State Fair, and the MN Beef Expo. One of the events I coordinated was a free hands-on beef clinic for youth in our county and a few of the surrounding counties. I was in awe of the volunteers that helped and the positive feedback I received from parents. I feel it is important for me to mentor youth just as I have been, and enjoy watching the kids get excited about livestock and the opportunity to become involved as I did. As I finish my senior year of high school and finalize my plans to continue my education at Colorado State University studying Animal Science and Ag Communications in the fall, I value all of the people that have guided me along this path. I am fortunate to have a family that has embraced my passion, and a wonderful group of people that encourage and support me. It has been great being a part the Simmental Association and the “family” of Simmental breeders. I sincerely thank both the Junior Simmental Association and the Minnesota Simmental Association for your support. This opportunity to represent the association has been a rewarding and memorable experience and I want to thank all of you! Gabby Nemitz
INCENTIVE PROGRAM FOR JUNIORS SPONSORED BY THE MINNESOTA SIMMENTAL ASSOCIATION
‘
MSA 2018 • WELCOME TO OUR 45TH SALE!
American Junior Simmental Association
JULY 2-7, 2018 • ST.PAUL, MINNESOTA
coolest show in the nation
The Minnesota Simmental Association is sponsoring a new incentive program for juniors. When a junior purchases an open female at the annual MN State Simmental Sale, the junior can reconsign the heifer as a bred for the next year’s auction, or if the junior purchased a bred female, they may consign her resulting off-spring to sell at the next year’s auction. When the junior brings back the animal to sell, they will only be charged 1/2 of the usual sale’s expenses. This is a one-time option available to all juniors. Animals must be purchased and resold during consecutive years to take advantage of the program. Consider the opportunities as you study your 2018 MN State Sale catalog!
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH, 2018 Another year has come and gone and we are getting ready for our 45th Annual MN State Simmental Weekend. This weekend is a great way to support our bred, consigners and junior members.
The weekend will start with the annual meeting at Haas Livestock followed by the banquet at Treasure Island. Please support our junior members at the auction by donating or by purchasing a basket. This is the main fundraiser for our junior members. The concession stand will be available on Friday and Saturday with all proceeds going back to the junior members. Chillin’ Coolest Show in the Nation will be coming to the MN State Fair Grounds July 2-7th. The junior members are looking forward to hosting the 2018 Junior Nationals. Planning is already underway and we are looking forward to a week of showing, contests, activities, and friendships being made. There will be more information coming out with many opportunities to volunteer. Make sure to take a close look at the heifers being consigned so you can be part of a junior national to remember.

Bill Krause, MSA President Greetings MJSA Members, As I reflect on my year as the Minnesota Junior Simmental Association President I am flooded with emotion. A few of my most memorable experiences as President include promoting the Simmental breed throughout the year at various livestock shows, our state sale, and to youth around our communities. As an association it is such an honor for our state to be hosting the 2018 Junior Nationals. This is Minnesota’s time to shine and show that we really are the “Coolest Show in the Nation”. Our association provides an outstanding amount of support towards our youth which is extremely vital as the upcoming generations are truly the essence of our industry. For this immense amount of support I say, thank you! Looking ahead, I will use the knowledge and my experiences to advocate for the Simmental breed and beef industry while I continue to grow my education. This spring I will graduate from NDSU with my bachelors in Agriculture Communication with minors in Ag-Business and Strategic Communication. Post-graduation my goal is to further my education by obtaining my master’s degree at Kansas State University. Most importantly, I will cherish all of the friendships I gained along this journey. I am blessed to have wonderful people in my life and I especially thank my amazing family and team for all of their support. I also would like to thank both the Minnesota Junior and Senior Simmental Associations for their support of the Simmental breed. Lastly, thank you to our advisor, Jessica Aggen, and the rest of the juniors for this opportunity to lead you as the MJSA President; it truly was an extraordinary year! Follow your passion, be a humble leader, and grow with the future! Thank You! Whitney Olson, MJSA President
Thank you Princess Morgan Small!

Here is a really cool opportunity to get your hands on some really neat genetics. Cameo is a super powerful female that combines mass, width and dimension that still maintains a soft appearance in a balanced and correct skeleton. Her dam, Learns Opra, is a full sibling in blood to Steel Force’s dam. With her first AI sired calf, JSS Daisy was 5th overall heifer at the MN Beef Expo. There is a lot of potential in this cow, so make sure you become a part of it.

Hot off his SECOND championship win in Denver, Pay the Price will quickly be a household name this spring... Everyone on the hill commented about the depth of quality the purebred bull show in Denver this year and Pay the Price was a clear stand out. His softness of structure tied into a super well balanced hip, swooped into a capacious rib shape and finished out with a long, really cool front end. We had heard he looked good and made the decision to IVF Gabby, who won two purple banners herself in Denver, that was the day before he won..after seeing him in the make up area, we were pretty dang excited about our decision. Phenotypically, we think these could be crazy good. #Denverchampionsfordays #somuchpurpleinthispedigree Very first opportunity to own this mating!

SS Ebony Grandmaster, Embryo Sire
It is with some hesitation that we are offering embryos out of HS Unity. Being the dam of JSMF Flick of Glitter, the 2012 NWSS Purebred Simmental heifer, I like to keep her potential for myself. Offspring of Unity have consistently shown and sold well, including JSMF Felisha, going to Charles W. Herbster of Herbster Angus Farms, and JSMF Fortified, going to Eric and Bridget Arthur of E & B Arthur Land & Cattle. Another daughter, JSMF Fantasia, recently took first in her class at the extremely competitive 2017 MN Beef Expo. The mating of Unity to Grandmaster has already been proven, these embryos are full sibs to “Flicka”. A little different twist with the mating of WS A Step Up. He was the 2014 top selling animal in “The One” who has gone on to sire multiple high selling females, and champions in the show ring. The choice is yours but I would take advantage of this offering now, as I’m not sure when I will be willing to share Unity embryos again. A beautiful Uprising daughter. Mother is a Power Drive and grandam raised a National Champion Bull and produced until 19 years of age. I expect one powerful cow. She has been shown twice at the Minnesota State Fair and in top 1/4 of class each time. She would be an obvious cow/calf project if you want or a front pasture momma.

Yes, she’s sired by our herd bull, RCC Predestined A3097. There I said it. Now that we’ve gotten past the first thing that everyone likes to discount heifers, bred or open, for is being sired by the clean-up bull. If anyone has followed our program, they know that we stand behind some of the most time-tested cow families. A3097 is no different. We sampled him as a yearling and his progeny have consistently outperformed some of the best AI sires available which has earned him the right to walk our pastures. If we sound like a broken record referencing the 02K cow, well it is for good reason as the genetics are a cornerstone of our program and exemplify quality and longevity. It was a difficult decision as we debated whether or not this heifer would be offered for sale. Keepsake is attractive in her design (with some definite 02K attributes) and has an abundance of natural width. Her calf will be impressive regardless bull or heifer or in phenotype or on paper. With this unique pedigree, you have unlimited mating opportunities!

The Pearson and Hilbrands families have always committed to bringing a good one to state sale over the years no matter how far the drive is. This Executive Order daughter is absolutely no exception and when we found her underneath all her -40 degree shag, all three of us set down our clippers and stared in agreement that she is something special. Actually looking back, this heifer would have fit perfectly in our Denver pen. EO keeps knocking it out of the park when it comes to making females that will be in the front pasture, flush pen. Electra has tons of internal capacity but you really like this heifer when you get her on the move. Check out her video and you will see what we are talking about. She’s the kind that will make you money!

As a producer, it is always exciting when a young cow in the herd can’t miss. Such is the case with the dam of this open heifer. Two years ago, we sold Evermore’s ½ sister in this very sale. Last year, we kept a brother back to make into a herd bull. This year, Evermore continues the tradition of great genetics. I challenge you to find a more powerfully made female that still possesses ample femininity in her overall makeup. Her mother has had success in both the showring and the pasture and Evermore is ready to follow in her footsteps!

Ease ranks in the top 15% of SimAngus™ in CE, BW, and MCE scores, making him a sure fire calving ease specialist. In other categories such as Milk, Stayability, Marbling and API, he ranks in the top 25% of the breed. Physically this bull is very balanced. We love his rib shape, levelness, and feet and leg structure. Ease’s dam is a first calf heifer we purchased from Kenner Simmentals in Leeds, ND, from which he came unassisted. Use this bull to remove calving problems and to raise excellent replacement females. Minnesota

We are excited to offer a top-notch herdsire prospect for this year’s MSA State Sale. 2E Everest 72E is a stout performance oriented bull out of a super first-calf heifer. The genetics are lined up on this guy as he is a son of W/C Executive Order and his mother is a beautiful Lock Down x Lizzys Pearl daughter. After the job she did with this bull as her first calf, we are excited about her future. Everest is long bodied, rugged made and sound in his movement. His EPDs and Indexes are on point and are sure to add value. He has the added performance that will make a heavy set of feeder cattle and we think his daughters will be tremendous too. He has already had a bit of success being Reserve Calf Champion at the MN State Fair. Take a hard look at this bull- he’ll add quality to any cowherd. Minnesota

With the volatility of the cattle market producers need stability and consistency. Look to this herd sire prospect to do just that. In his new owner’s herd, he will add stable, consistent calves that should come easy, grow fast and have that extra look to top the sales.

This young buck has been one that we’ve been excited about from the time he came out the chute. Executive is backed by the great Executive Order who is making his mark on the breed. His dam, a first calf heifer, is earning her keep at the farm and traces back to a prolific cow family. This purebred fella is balanced in his built, big ribbed, bold featured and good footed. And for those number crunchers, reads as a calving ease sire on paper, without sacrificing growth and offers an API and TI within the top 10% of the breed. Make a savvy business move and add this executive to your operation. Minnesota
