Dear Friends, On behalf of the Lynch Family... “WELCOME!” to our if you haul your bull 2017 Spring Performance With Class Sale. from Waverly This spring sale offers very high quality performance bulls and sale day females. The bulls are really really good and include halfblood to purebred Simmental and Angus. The EPDs on this set of bulls is very impressive. The spread from BW to WW to YW is better than any set for sale in the midwest. The scan infomation reflects great carcass traits, lean bulls with large REA and excellent marbling scores. Mike Stanek scanned the bulls and told me they were the best group he has done this year. Mat has fed these bulls a TMR high roughage balance ration. The genetics will be an outcross to most pedigrees. Offering includes a two year old, 9 bulls at 18-20 months old and 57 yearlings. The first genetics from the Olafson Bros. herd (ND) are included. Most bulls are AI sired and ETs. Many of these bulls are “game changers” for our customers. The females are young production heifers and cows. Many cows are AI sired with AI sired calves at side. They were selected for calving ease and carcass traits. Selling also are four embryo lots of performance genetics, stored at Westwood Genetics at Waverly. NEW THIS YEAR – three fall born outstanding heifer calves that would make great projects and herd replacements. We are proud to have longtime guest breeders, Mat Goddard, our herdsman and Dave Martinson of Cedar Falls. To help assist our buyers, we will keep these bulls until June 1st at no charge or if you take the bulls home from Waverly, we will give you a $100 per head discount. The best way to describe this bull is he is a beef machine. If you can find a red bull with as much thickness, muscle, and rugged designed as this guy, I would love to see him. He is stout and has incredible hip structure. He is excellent on the move and is big footed. Now take a look at his EPDs and this bull puts it all together. Low birth, high growth, and an excellent API of 146.

the following 24 females are western origin, calving ease, maternal made females that originated from the townsend ranch in montana. these females range from all low percentage Simmental ranging from commercial to half bloods. they read incredible on paper for calving ease, birth weight, and API. These heifers are made similar as they are moderate framed, soft made, big ribbed, sound footed, and have terrific udders. There are red, black, and black baldies and are some outcross genetics for this part of the world. the few that have not calved will calf by sale day. all the heifers were ai’ed within 2 day and turned into a big group of 400 with multiple sires. B45 a.k.a. Reba was purchased as the high selling lot in the 2015 Iowa Red Angus Classic. From there Tayler campaigned her, collecting a lot of hardware along the way. We knew the true value of this female was going to be as a cornerstone cow in our operation and she sure didn’t disappoint with her first calf. She laid down and had a beautiful Rio heifer calf, “Fancy”, that we thought so much of that we flushed Reba right back to Rio. Fancy will be Tayler’s show heifer this coming year as well, already winning her class at the Iowa Beef Expo. Reba and Fancy were shown as a cow/calf pair this past summer collecting hardware every time they were out. The Rio calves have been sale toppers in our production sales as they are soft made, attractive, functional cattle that are sound on the move. Reba only continues to impress us with her overall fault free design, a terrific front third, and being perfect uddered. Here is a chance to get in on the ground floor of an up and coming donor.

Explanation of How to Utilize API and TI Indexes
First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described to the left, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a $50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000).
