Dear Fellow Cattle Enthusiasts,

Please consider this your invitation to the 6th Annual Livin’ The Dream Sale. Without a doubt, the quality of this group of cattle from top to bottom is unrivaled by our previous sales. I know it always sounds cliché that we have the best set yet, but if we are not making progress, then we probably shouldn’t be in the business. We think you will agree that there are open females capable of standing stiff competition at all levels and bred females with the quality and pedigree to make breed leading donor cows. There is something for everyone and they will sell at all price levels. One thing that we are exceptionally proud of with this sale group is the fact that all these animals were raised here, or by our cooperators and partners and everything is out of cows that we own. I challenge you to look across the country and find a sale that can say the same thing. We have 100% commitment to sustaining a successful program, and I believe this is a great representation of where we are going. We can tell you about anything you need to know about the cows that stand behind these females; udders, feet quality, sibs, granddams, great granddams and also great great granddams. We don’t use sexed semen here or reverse sort IVF, except in a rare circumstance of trying to get more daughters out of an aging donor to put back in our herd. With that being said, these heifers have bull mates to them that are the backbone of our bull sale in February. Rest assured that when you put your heifers into production, they can raise high quality male and female progeny. When purchasing an animal here, please have some peace of mind knowing that these cattle have been fed with their futures in mind. With the exception of the 6 head we had at State Fair, the rest of the cattle were weaned September 1. They have been on a round bale of grass hay and our grain mix that contains a lot of fiber. Too many times you see cattle that are maxed out as calves and can’t make it to be big heifers. They will be in nice condition, and you can gear them towards where you want to show them. We take a lot of pride knowing the best days are ahead of these cattle. We try to represent our cattle in their pictures as accurately as possible. We know when you get here, the cattle you see in the sale runs, will look like those in the catalog. We would like to thank our partners: Nelson Family Farms, Shipwreck Cattle and Brian Ruppert. I think you will find that they all share the same passion for raising functional cattle as we do, and that some of the top cattle in the offering are partnership cattle with these folks. Visitors are always welcome here, so if you are in the area before the sale, please stop by. If you get your fill of turkey and want to get out of the house, come by Thursday and look through the cattle and join us for supper. Videos will be linked off of the website so plese check there for them. We will be serving our famous brisket lunch on sale day so bring your appetites! Don’t forget our annual Bull sale on February 3, 2018 in Lamoni, Iowa. Many mates to these sale heifers will sell. If you want to see them at sale time, they will be available for viewing as well. We look forward to seeing you on sale day. If you have any questions, please feel free to call any of us or any of the sales representatives.

Hope to see you soon! Nate, Leslie & Creed Ruby

Welcome to Livin’ The Dream Volume 7! Welcome to the Livin’ The Dream Sale. It sure has been exciting the past 6 years to watch the genetics that has passed through this ring now make their mark in the industry, not only in the Ruby operation as well as herds across the country. As you view the cattle, it is apparent that the cow families in this herd are time tested and some of the hardest working females in the breed that can produce both attractive functional females and stout herd sires. What an opportunity for you to be able to purchase females with such royal heritage and proving the Nate, Leslie & Creed always offer their best. It is their mission statement to be your seedstock provider for many years to come. The Simmental breed is doing so many good things in the industry and it is because of the dedication like this firm that makes it possible. We welcome you all to Murray, Iowa on Thanksgiving weekend and know it is a great time to make a road trip with the family after the big turkey dinner. If you are not able to attend, always know the Show Barn Manager Creed along with Mom & Dad will be happy to show you the offering any time prior to the sale or view the videos online as internet bidding is available through liveauctions.tv. As always, feel free to contact the Ruby crew or any of the marketing reps for assistance. It’s never really a contest around here who gets to be Lot 1, but I think this one is a logical place to start the catalog. I think this is a combination mating of where we have been, where we are now, and where we are going. This is the only direct 418P daughter in the sale, and although I think there will be more, time is not on our side for generating more progeny. 418P needs no introduction. I truly believe years from now, we will look back and will be able to fully appreciate all this cow has done with direct progeny and descendants. She turned 13 this spring, raised a calf, and is still perfect footed and beautiful uddered. She has stood the test of time, and will live on for years to come through her progeny and their progeny. This heifer’s sire, Battle Cry, is bar none the most consistent sire we have ever used here. Whether the progeny are heifers or are bulls, they come small, have huge growth, are sound structured, have great rib shape, and are stamped with an awesome look. I think he is an absolute must-use sire in the breed. I think this girl is a more modern version of her mother. Cool looking, stout made, great structured and bold sprung. Combine the legacy of this heifer’s dam, with an exciting future of her sire, and you have a heifer destined to make her mark on the breed. VIEW/BID LIVE ON THE INTERNET

I think this heifer is a great example of why I love the Battle Cry cattle so much. You won’t find one any nicer through their front 1/3, big footed, great structured, stout, square, high performing and great rib shape. Her dam is a full sister to the $21,000 Louisville sale topper to Felt Farms and Udell Cattle Company. She is one of my favorite heifers we have ever raised and her sister is getting it done in the pasture. This one has been a favorite of ours and the early visitors, make sure to check her out on sale day!

The 2124Z cow is just getting warmed up around here. I think it is no secret that her first calf was the dominant heifer shown by Kiersten Jass that was Reserve Supreme Champion at the largest Junior Nationals in history. Absolut has done a great job producing awesome heifers around here and this one fits the bill. This girl is cool looking and sound and has a hair coat that would rival a lot of commercial heifers. Give her some time to mature, and I think this one will be lights out. We like our cattle a little later maturing and have some future, and I think this one will get better every day you own her.

One of my favorite purebreds in the offering. Make sure you don’t walk by this heifer. If you’re looking for a freak necked quitter with no future, this one not for you! Instead, this is a later maturing heifer that is impeccable in her structure and movement while being great in her design. She is long and extended through her front, soft bodied, and great haired. I think without a doubt, she will be a big time contender. Her dam raised the top selling bred in last year’s sale and is just getting warmed up. I think she has made a pretty bold statement with this year’s calf crop.

I usually limit a mating to two head, maybe three in the sale, but when they are this good, I think we need to offer them all. This is the first crop of ET heifer calves that we have had to offer out of the Y106 donor. She is a Built Right x 418P and earned her way into the donor pen by producing good ones. A daughter topped the bred division last year, and I think all 5 daughters in this sale are a big testament of the producing ability of this donor. Once again, adjust your eyes when you look at this flush. They are later maturing cattle that are designed to have future and be good next summer and maintain greatness on through the fall. They are cocky, attractive made cattle that are big boned, big footed, fluid in their motion while still combining power with body depth and rib shape. They are all cut out of the same mold yet all have their subtle differences. If we had to pick one out of the sale for our show barn, I would take a long look at these flush mates. Buy with confidence, they will get better every day you own them.

I get people asking me all the time why we don’t breed any donors for steers. Well, to be honest, it seems like a waste of a good cow, but the Monopoly x 418P’s a few years back, were pretty dang nice, even though they were heifers. Anyway, if you are looking for one to breed to make some awesome half blood steers, take a long look at this one. I don’t think her producing ability is limited to crossbreds, as I think she could make some awesome percentage and purebred cattle as well. She is a big footed, big boned, square made heifer that is wide hipped and big bodied with tremendous hair. She is very extended through her front end and travels extremely well. I think she is one that is different enough that may need showing outside the Simmental division, but is unique enough to earn a look by the most discrimination producer.

Cow power at its finest here. The Lookout sired SimAngus™ have been very popular in the past years. While some may not have quite enough punch and grow, this one certainly does. Here is a cool looking, stout made heifer, that is backed by a great cow family. Here is one to take home and anchor a new cow family line for your operation.

Here is a full sibling in blood to the really good 710E heifer, Lot 9. This white faced heifer is extremely stout, deep bodied, big boned and big footed. If you’re looking for a boost of cow power in your herd, I would highly recommend this heifer. She is a maternal sister to the popular red heifers that have sold in the sale the last two years.

This blaze faced heifer is one that I have really had reservations about selling. Our Maddens have made flat awesome cows and when they are designed like this one, it makes them all the harder to sell. The dam of this heifer made a splash in the sale two years ago when she produced two sisters that grossed $26,500. This one is a flat necked, flat shouldered heifer that is deep bodied and great on the move. If you want a great show heifer that will make an even better cow capable of producing high dollar progeny, put a few stars by this one. $26,500 maternal sisters

The dam of these heifers is one of my favorite cows and I am probably guilty of not propagating her enough. The Miss Cleo cow family is responsible for producing Wide Open, and the females that hale from this family have as good of udders and feet and legs as any Simmentals that I have seen. A Miss Cleo descendant has also produced one of the most exciting bull calves that we have ever produced, watch for him in our Bull Sale. These two full sib heifers are both high growth, stout made deep bodied heifers that will make awesome cows. The 729E heifer is one of the neatest heifers that we have produced in my opinion. The baldy heifer knows how to turn it on when you put a halter on her. I don’t know if we have ever raised a heifer with the combination of look, depth of body, stoutness, squareness, and mobility that she puts together in one package. Did I mention depth of body? Yes I did, but take note, I challenge you to find an open heifer with this much internal dimension and volume and still have such a striking look. I think she has big time potential.

I think it is human nature to gravitate towards your favorite in a calf crop. This heifer has always been one of those cattle for me. She has been one that when you go check cows in the pasture, you make sure that you find her and see how she is progressing, and is one that never lets you down. I was gonna wean her for state fair, but decided to leave her on the cow. I guess I don’t have a good reason for not weaning her, but I don’t think it would have changed her one way or the other. Her mother is flat getting it done along with most of our Yucatan daughters. Her first calf was a high selling bull in our bull sale last February. Yucatan is a full brother to the dams of 729E, 7106E, and 748E. This heifer ratioed 105 at birth and 110 at weaning and yes I’m talking performance in a heifer sale. Once again, here is a flat necked, flat shouldered heifer that square and smooth made with big time body depth from forerib to flank. She is big footed, big boned, and floats when you put her in motion. This is a heifer that I truly hate to see leave, but being that she is her dams 2nd calf, I am betting I can get another one. Our loss is your gain here!

I am not going to win the popularity contest in our household by offering this one for sale. If you follow us on Snapchat, or been at the farm to visit when Creed is here, you will know that this is “his” heifer. Her personality has won us all over and it will be a sad day when she leaves. We have never had one so friendly and personable as this heifer. To go along with a great attitude, she is a flat awesome beast. Here is a choke necked, huge legged, big bodied, hairy one that is also backed by a great cow family. Her dam is a Steel Force x S600, which makes her a full sister to the great X-Clamation donor at Fosters Brothers who just produced the $75,000 top selling lot at the Black Label sale. You can drive all over the country and not find what this heifer puts together in one package. Don’t miss out! FBFS X-Clamation/Full Sibling to Dam

Here are the Purebred sisters out of 151Y donor and Bottom Line, the Royal and NAILE Champion Bull. These are the only two Bottom Lines that were born here and this mating really clicked. Once again, the cow family behind these females is flat getting it done producing high demand, show winning cattle that are profitable in production. While these heifers color patterns may vary from one another, under that they are very similar. They are loose made cattle that are big footed and great structured. I can’t wait to see these things next summer and into the fall. I truly think that they will be tough to get around in the show ring, and go on to make big time donor cows. Both have great dispositions as well.

Magnetic Lady has produced some nice ones in her short time in production, but I think this one is her best one yet. We all know the Pays to Dreams get better with time, and there are only good days ahead for this female as she is pretty dang salty already. I love this female’s long and smooth front end, combined with a soft look, and a great running gear. I think her looseness of structure combined with the right amount of muscle and shape, really make this female special. Here is another one I think will be big time next summer into the fall and winter.

Peas in a pod is always the phrase we hear get tossed around, but these two flush mates are exactly that. If you cut their ear tags out and put them in a pen, I am fairly certain I couldn’t tell you which one is which. Here are two attractive made females that are clean fronted, huge middled, and are cattle have true muscle shape and base width to them. I really love how well they maintain body depth from forerib back into their flanks. These are cattle that will shine when you put them in production and kick them out to grass. Here is a great opportunity to add two high quality full sisters to your herd.

This female has grabbed the attention of early visitors. It’s hard to find these Angus sired half blood females with as much foot, bone, and power as this female. She still maintains a great look, with a big barrel, and is awesome when you put her in motion. The Style sired cattle keep gaining popularity and as someone who has several in production, they make great cows. Magnetic Lady is a full sister to Absolut, and they are making tremendous cows. I never try to get too high or too low on anyone calf, as they can all change as they mature, but this one has been a favorite since the first time I saw her at our cooperator herd. If you’re looking for a big time show heifer, I think this heifer has big time potential. I think she is great in her structure. She is long, and flat necked. She is square made and big bodied. She has the right muscle shape. I think she checks all the boxes at this stage in the game, and our Battle Cry’s have done nothing but get better with age. She was a little bored with the picture pen and didn’t picture to her potential, but make sure you find her on sale day. Her dam sold on the Living the Dream sale a few years back. Our good friends at Nelson Family Farms raised her, and I tried telling everyone that came through to buy her, but couldn’t seem to get much interest. Jered Shipman saw the same potential in her that I did and so we decided to partner on her. I think you’re going to hear a lot out of this cow in coming years as long as she keeps kicking them out like this one!

This heifer was our number 2 birthweight heifer in a group of 60. If you appreciate moderate, low maintenance cattle, then take a long look here. She is extra soft in her design, yet still has a great look and is super sound. These are the kind that last a long time and are the kind to build a herd around.

The Miss Granite cow family originated here when Leslie and I bought the cow herd of the Bill Feiges family. 8172 was a Jauer bred Angus female that flat worked when we crossed her with a Simmental bull. She had several heifer calves and we retained all but one, and we sold her as a show heifer. This heifer hales from that great cow and you can see brood cow written all over this one as well. Yetti has established herself as one of the Premier bull producing donor cows in the country. Most notable to date is obviously Battle Cry, who if you looked through the open section, has been lights out producing high quality offspring. Another son, Gentlemen’s Jack, was the high seller in our bull sale this year and has been used in ET programs of top breeders across the country. Another son by Madden is working at Wildberry Farms in Illinois and the list goes on and on. These daughters bring a new twist to a cow family that has been so prominent in the breed for the last 20 years. The Lock Down females are a very uniform group from top to bottom. I think the D650 and D660 females are very special and are destined for someone’s donor pen. They are both different in their types, but both are good. There has never been a clear cut favorite, and if we took an official poll, it would probably be split 50/50. The Anchor sired cattle have been very popular and here is a chance to add a daughter out of a proven donor. The 6115D female is a moderate framed heifer that is stout made, great structured and easy keeping. I think she has a shot of raising a big time bull prospect right out of the gate with her mating to CEO. CEO is a bull we own with Werning Cattle Co and was a high seller at the C Diamond sale in North Dakota this spring. We have decided to not offer any semen at this time, so this will be a chance to get in on the ground floor of this up and coming sire.

Twin sisters here out of the cow maker Grandmaster and backed by a Style x K18 daughter. These are my kind of females. Moderate in their kind, yet cool looking, big footed, big bodied and stout made. They are also very easy keeping and will make very efficient cows. Everyone loves their 3/4 blood cattle, and when you see these, you can understand why. Take them home and let them go to work for you. I think they have the ability to raise some awesome purebred show heifers

The lone red head in our offering. The Absolut’s are knocking it out of the park in production. The people that have them as cows love them. Look back on the cow side of this one and you will find Steel Force x Rhythm 418P. Three shots of cow power front and center in her pedigree. Breed her red or black, the choice is yours, but we know she has the ability to produce the good ones.

Our Grandmasters have flat worked in production and here is one that has a great cow family behind her as well. This one goes back to the original 1R5 Angus cow three generations back and that cow is still in our herd at 16. Longevity is bred in here.

Without a doubt, this heifer should have been shown. We had her up and messed with her a bit, but never pursued selling her. So we kept her to breed and here she is. No question in my mind this is one of the best breds we have offered to date. I will be shocked if she doesn’t end up in someone’s donor pen because she is good enough to be in ours. Badlands is a baldy full brother to Battle Cry that we run behind our cows. He breeds very similar in kind to his powerful brother and this sample size of heifers is the result of random matings on cows he got to clean up naturally. Without a doubt, he is good enough to AI to and we are lucky we have a bull of this A.I. Sire: Ruby NFF Incentive 307A on 5-29-17 EPDs: 13 -1.95 44 68 .15 9 24 46 9 * caliber to turn out. Madden has left us with an unbelievable group of daughters in our herd. The best ones are the percentage females like most of these daughters. They are the right size, easy keeping, fertile, calve easy, good milking and are just great mothers. His EPDs went up with every calf crop that he had and by now has earned his spot as a heifer bull as well. Check out the planned mating EPDs on a couple of these females. A really nice 3/4 blood female here. The Absolut’s make awesome cows and this one will be one of his best. I really like her mating to the new CEO bull and note she is having a heifer calf.

I really like the Combustibles in production. This awesome half blood female goes back to a great Ohlde bred cow family. Here is one you can breed a lot of ways and with her added power, and bone, she should make great cattle of either sex.

If you can appreciate moderate framed, easy keeping, efficient cattle, here is a bred for your. When you put her into production, she will take minimal feed to produce a big result and will look good doing it.

These Angus females are all half sisters by the high growth sire, Tour of Duty. They are a very uniform group of heifers that have great dispositions. Match their phenotype with a great set of EPDs and you have a winning combination. These good Angus females are so versatile and are easy to add value to your operation. Breed them Simmental for a great SimAngus calf, or breed them back Angus, they will make you money either way.
