M U R R A Y, I O W A
Dear Fellow Cattle Enthusiasts,
Another year has flown by and sale season is in full swing. We would like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to the 5th Annual Livin’ the Dream Sale. I sincerely want to thank you for your consideration, we know there are many places to shop for cattle, but I am confident that is set is as deep with quality from top to bottom as you will find anywhere. Without question, our goal is to make our cattle better and better every year, and no doubt this is our best and deepest group yet. I have never been a high pressure sales type, rather let the cattle speak for themselves, but if you want an honest opinion, give me a call and I will tell you what I think. Whether you are looking for your next Purebred or Foundation show heifers, Bred Heifers, or Donor Cow prospects, we are confident that you have come to the right place. We are proud that our pictures honestly represent our cattle, so rest assured, what you see in the catalog is what is running around in our pens. One fact that we are proud of is that we do not use sexed semen as we believe ourselves to be breeders of Simmental cattle and not just multipliers. We know our females can raise heifers and bulls, and are expected to thrive in real world conditions, so be confident that your purchase will go home and make you money when you put her in production. Every year we get more and more reports of success stories from our genetics. There is no argument that we are facing a different year in the cattle business. We have all had to tighten our belts a little bit and maximize output in our cowherds while keeping production costs in check. We all have to remember that we are all in the beef business and when we are selecting these cattle for the next generation they have to work within our industry. There has seemed to be a trend to pick narrow based, flat sided, freaky necked heifers. I will be the first to admit that I love a good looking one, but if they have no product and no do ability to them, I think we are missing the forest for the trees. That is just my honest opinion and you can take it for what it’s worth, but several breeds have been ruined by ignoring this simple fact. We are proud to offer cattle that still have some meat and muscle combined with a good look, yet will still make front pasture cows. We would also like to thank our guest consigners: Nelson Family Farms, RS&T Simmentals, 102 River Run Cattle Co. I think you will find that they all share the same passion for raising functional cattle as we do, and that they have brought their best. They have all been partners or customers, and we are truly excited to have them as part of Livin’ the Dream! Visitors are always welcome here, so if you are in the area before the sale, please stop by. If you get your fill of turkey and want to get out of the house, come by Thursday and look through the cattle and join us for supper. We will be serving our famous brisket lunch on sale day so bring your appetites! Don’t forget our annual Bull sale on February 4, 2017 in Lamoni, Iowa. Many mates to these sale heifers will sell. If you want to see them at sale time, they will be available for viewing as well. We look forward to seeing you on sale day. If you have any questions, please feel free to call any of us or any of the sales representatives.
Hope to see you soon! Nate, Leslie and Creed Ruby

At 16 years old, the time had come this summer to put K18 down. I don’t think it is any secret how K18 impacted our program. From show heifers, to donor cows, to herd bulls, she produced quality cattle that reside in progressive herds all over the country. In our early years, her offspring were the ones that made the payments for us as they were the high quality ones that were easy to sell. We were able to retain several daughters in her later years and as you can see by the offering, her influence will be felt for a long, long time. The list of her success stories and high sellers is too long to list, but we will forever be grateful that we were able to have such an impactful cow be the cornerstone of our program!

She is sired by the Battle Cry bull we sold in Denver a few years back that I think is getting ready to make a big splash here. This girls dam is another In Dew Time x K18 daughter that is great looking, easy fleshing and has a great udder. This eye appealing heifer is big footed, big legged, big bodied and stout made. For all the mass an internal dimension she possesses, she is as flat shouldered as you can make one and she gets out and really moves with ease. I think she will be fun to show and when that is done, she is built to really click with a many of these flat made sires of today. I truly think this one is a program changer. This blaze faced bomb shell has been a favorite of many early visitors and we are confident that you will love her too. She is very extended through her front end and ties nicely into a very flat shoulder. She opens up into a big middle and is square made and very fluid in her movement. She came off the recip cow pretty skinny and so I am confident that her best days are ahead of her and she is built for the long haul. This is the first ET calf crop from her outcross donor dam, and she sure has not disappointed. We realize this one isn’t the stoutest API heifer in the sale, but you can always fix that in 1 generation, and when they are this good, I don’t think it matters. VIEW/BID LIVE ON THE INTERNET

Another great SimAngus™ out of our W932 outcross donor. The Styles are as popular as ever and he has always worked great on this cow family. She is awesome in her pattern and very sound with just enough white to set her apart from the rest and make her one to remember. This was definitely one of Brad Hook’s favorites when he pictured them. The Styles win early, win late, and make awesome females. Take a good look here.

This blaze faced girl is the natural calf out of the W932 donor. Before we weaned the calves, I thought this one was as good as any in the group. She hurt her foot on the ride home and even though she is good to go now, it took its toll on her. At picture time, she was just turning the corner and has come on real strong since. Make sure you look her up on sale day, because there is a lot of quality in this female. She is a bigger framed, very extended made female that is very feminine and flashy in her design.

She is super sound and big footed while begin square made, huge bodied and very attractive through her head and neck. You may think I am crazy, but she also has that erect ear set that is the cherry on top. Her dam is no stranger in bringing quality cattle to the sale pen as she produced a $20,000 and $6,500 heifer in last year’s sale. One of them also won their division in Kansas City. We have come the end of an era with our direct K18 daughters. This heifers dam represents the last of the direct daughters. Here is a cocky, stout made Unbelievable daughter that is super sound and very attractive. We think she will make a great show heifer and like all of the K18 descendants, transmit phenotype to the next generation. I sure think this female fits the bill as to what a lot of the successful show heifers look like at this stage in the game. If you are looking for a flatter, made more extended heifer with some size, take a long look here. This heifer is one of Jared’s favorite half bloods and I can’t argue with him. She is extremely sound made and loose in her design. She combines that with a very soft look that screams big time bred heifer. Her dam is a full sister to the immortal 418P. I know I am probably not supposed to pick favorites, but I absolutely love this heifer. When you are just straight up evaluation cattle, this maybe the most fault free heifer that we have raised, I think she is that good. She descends from the 1R5 Angus cow that originated at Sunny Slope Angus in Minnesota. 1R5 was also the dam of Throwdown, a bull we raised that ended up in the J&C herd and left them with many great females. This heifers Macho sired dam is as impressive of a cow that we own and there is no arguing that this heifer got a lot of her quality from her dam. Here is a big footed, big boned female that is clean and extended fronted, combined with a big middle, and stout hip and top. She is powerfully constructed but floats around with ease and grace. Here is a big time show heifer that will be awfully tough in the show ring and superior in the pasture. She is cocky and knows she is good and likes to show off but she handles great on the halter.

I think this heifer is a great representation of the cattle we are trying to make here and a testament to our Madden daughters. I don’t think I could ever make enough heifers that look like this. Big footed, big boned, big bodied, big top, big booty and a skinny neck and smooth shoulder. After you check out her EPD profile, you can see she is another example of production bred cattle with eye appeal. Once again, I may sound like a broken record, but here is a female that will be fun to show, but without a doubt be a champion in the pasture.

I don’t think it is any secret that when the Grandmaster cattle are extended and elevated enough out of their font ends, they are as good as any cattle you can find. Here is one of those such heifers. This heifer is as attractive as any in the sale in her design and she combines that with an extremely sound, loose made make up. She reminds us a lot of Grandmaster x 418P that was the high seller in the sale 2 years ago that is already doing great things for her owners. She will take a little extra quality time like that heifer as she is not for the first time exhibitor, but once she settles in, she will be as good as they get. Think of the mating opportunities here!

Here is the fall born full sister to 645D. Here is one that is big middled and stout made, yet still has a great look. She has a very easy keeping look to her and with her pedigree, the mating options are wide open. She is one that we should be keeping for ourselves, but our loss is your gain. I am confident that this girl will keep on the family tradition of producing high quality, functional cattle, that are really good for the bottom line.

This blaze faced fall heifer maybe one of the most intriguing Purebreds in the offering. She is the natural calf out of the 2124Z donor who produced Kiersten Jass and Circle T’s popular heifer from last year. This heifer spent much of the winter at the ET center and weaned off a little behind, but is really making up ground. She is very long through her front end and flat in her shoulder, while still having plenty of rib shape and is very loose structured. I think she will be killer come Junior National time next year. Our Madden daughters are flat getting it done in production and I expect a lot of good things to come from this one when her show career is done. Outcross pedigree with a big API make her a very unique breeding piece.

Look closely at this heifers pedigree and you will notice that she is ¾ sister to the mother of the dominant fall heifer from last year’s sale. Leslie and I were just talking that our Montecito cows are flat getting the job done. They are raising high quality, saleable cattle that get better with age. I know not everyone can be a donor cow, but with the cow family standing behind this one, I think making her a donor in the future would be a pretty sound decision. This attractive made heifer is soft made, big footed and very maternal in her design. She is very soft haired and with her beautiful blaze face, she is sure to be a favorite sale day. Don’t miss out here!

Her dam is a Steel Force x 418P so there is power pumping through her blood. She came in a little greener, but if you are looking for a sleeper in this offering, she would be one I would have on my list. This is the lone red heifer in this year’s open heifer offering. She is a full sister to the good red one we sold last year and reminds us very much of her. She is very nice footed with added bone, power, and rib shape. Combine that with a flat front shoulder and attractive front end, and you have a very competitive show heifer and a top notch cow. These good red ones are getting harder to come by and with the demand of red bulls, selling progeny of both sexes from this girl shouldn’t be too hard.

Yetti is paving the way raising great herd bulls and awesome females with performance, eye appeal and quality. She is also the mother of the Battle Cry bull that we have used as hard as any bull to date. The D656 female is a goggle eyed heifer that is very eye appealing and is one that grabs your attention. She is super sound and fluid in her movement while still being soft middled and stout made. She does have a spot in her right eye, although it doesn’t affect her vision, we wanted you to be aware of it. The D652 female is an absolute truck. Maybe the deepest female in the offering from fore rib to flank, and when you get behind her, she is as stout as they come. Yet, with all that power she moves as good as any and is also super attractive. If you are looking for some different pedigrees backed by consistency and performance, these two sisters will fit that bill.

As I mentioned before, the Style bull’s popularity continues to grow. They are very good cattle that stay good for the long haul. This pair of sisters are different, but both really good. 674D is as cowy and big barreled as they come and combine that with a loose made maternal design, she is a cow maker to the core. The 691D is the big time show heifer of the pair. Long, long, long necked, flat shouldered, huge ribbed, square, with an awesome back leg makes this one a big time show heifer prospect. She has a great presence about her that the good ones have as well. I would rather be leading her than following her, that I am certain.

His first calf crop was limited but the results have surpassed our high expectations. We have been blessed to raise what we feel are some very top end cattle in the past. I think it is a big statement but I think this heifer is right there with any of them, and one of the very best. I think this girl is a freak. You can drive your wheels off looking for a longer necked, cleaner fronted Purebred than this one. She is maybe as flat shouldered and as elevated out of her neck/shoulder junction as any we have raised. She opens up in to a big rib cage with lots of shape and is square made and wide pinned. Where I think she really excels is in her movement. I don’t think you can make them any longer strided than what this one is. She has so many unique pieces but ties them together so nicely as only the real special ones can do. I don’t know how else to say it but if you’re hunting that big time purebred, you need to be in Murray on November 25th.

Dr. Walker and family from Illinois purchased a Pays To Dream x Excalibur last year and she went on and had a very successful show career. Here is one that I think can sure do the same. This heifer’s pedigree on the bottom side is one of my favorite cow families that we have. Take a close look here.

23.7 -.29 .08 -.036 .79 108 66 A few years back, we purchased an Excalibur x Rich and Rare daughter from our friends at RS&T. Her first calf was a Pays To Dream bull that was very nice and this Madden heifer sure didn’t disappoint either. Here is a flat shouldered, flat necked female that combines body depth and soundness in to a very complete package. We love producing these high quality outcross females that are capable of doing big things or their new owners. Buy this one with confidence, you will be glad you did.

Here is another high quality, outcross female that we should be retaining in our herd. This Rancher daughter has been one I have admired from a young age. Look at the amount of capacity this female has. It is so hard to find these Dream On free pedigrees with that much middle. She combines that softness with an attractive, stout made package. If you want a show heifer that can raise some bulls, take a look here.

Here is a different twist to this year’s sale. This will be the first time we have open Angus heifers in the offering. We run several Angus females, but most we use to make SimAngus cattle. I guess I was just playing around when I mated this one’s mother back to an Angus bull, but this one isn’t playing around. Early visitors have absolutely loved this female and I have to admit, I love her to. She is long necked and very attractive, while being bold sprung and deep bodied. She is stout, and square made and built awesome at the ground. What I really think makes this one special is foot size and the amount of bone she possesses for an Angus and that she combines a little different pedigree on the bottom side as well. Angus Junior Nationals are coming to Des Moines this summer so if you are looking for one that can run with the best of them, take a good look here.

When I hear people say that they wish they could find an Angus heifer like “they used to make them,” this is the heifer that I envision. She is sensible in her frame size, she is big footed and big boned, she is big bodied and stout made and still manages to pull it all together in a very eye appealing package. She is one that is built turn forage into pounds and make a low maintenance, foundation donor cow for someone. We love our Bush’s Unbelievables and we also love our OCC Unbelievalbes, and when stacked these two bulls in a pedigree, this is exactly what we were hoping for. This is one that should not be leaving.

We are running at max capacity in terms of numbers and our cowherd is young so we are presenting you with a great opportunity to acquire some of our top cow prospects. Needless to say, there are several of these that we hate to see go. We are confident that our loss is your gain here and the profitability of this group is second to none. Livin’ The Dream Volume 6
Welcome back to the Livin’ the Dream Sale! It is truly a pleasure to once again work with the Nate and Leslie Ruby family and the guest breeders on this sale. Simmental breeders have enjoyed some great times in recent years. Simmental and Sim-Influenced cattle are reaching new heights in popularity because of their performance, maternal ability, functionality and breeding flexibility. Simmental genetics have proven to work in every facet of production and environment. And of course, Simmental heifers make awesome junior projects that are ultra competitive and terrific herd starters for youth that want to get into the business and participate in production agriculture. With that in mind, the time to own good Simmental females and genetics is right now. The breeders of the Livin’ the Dream sale are ready and equipped to meet this demand for great Simmental pedigrees and rock-solid females that will go out and produce. These breeders have a focus and dedication to the Simmental business and to make good looking, hard working cattle that will produce results; whether in the pasture or in the showring. Study this offering and you will absolutely find heifers that will compete to be champions at the highest level. Past champions and results show these cattle have the genetics and predictability to make you money. Everyone at the Livin’ the Dream sale welcomes you to southern Iowa on Thanksgiving weekend. It’s a busy time of year and there are many cattle sales happening. We hope you make plans to be at Ruby Cattle Company to join in this awesome event. Feel free to contact any of the breeders or the marketing team for any assistance regarding the sale animals. We look forward to seeing you on November 25th. The sale will also have live bidding and broadcast available at liveauctions.tv. Happy Thanksgiving and Safe TravelS!
