We welcome you back for the 4th annual production sale “The Gathering at Shoal Creek.” We hope to see old friends and make new ones on the weekend of April 4th as we present our best at our Big Sale Event! While the cattle are the focus of our industry, it is the people and the relationships formed that are at its heart. We would like to thank all of our past customers for their belief in our program, as well as our guest consignors for joining us for The Gathering. The last few years have certainly been an exciting time for cattle producers. The demand for cattle at all levels of the beef industry has truly never been higher. Every year our goal is to assemble a set of cattle that can appeal to producers on many different levels. With the help of our guest consignors we pull from the strengths of each breeding program to offer the best. We are also excited to feature an elite donor from the core of the Shoal Creek program, HSF/HS Shasha W909. She came to Shoal Creek as an open heifer and has continued to impress us every day since with each calf crop. She is one of the highest quality females that we have had the opportunity to own and is in the prime of her life. We are excited to offer the opportunity for Shasha W909 to leave her mark on another breeding program and we look forward to seeing the impact that she will continue to make on the breed. We really struggled with the idea to sell Shasha W909, but felt it was time to share a female of her level of quality that has positioned herself as a cornerstone in our program. With several daughters now in the herd here at Shoal Creek, we decided it was the right time to offer one of our best while she is in the prime of her life. When you see her April 4th you will agree, W909 is phenotypically impressive in terms of shear mass, total volume, body, capacity, bone, and foot size that should be expected of a high quality purebred donor. Her pedigree stems from the mating of Dream On with the Lizzy Pearl donor that was an income producing force for many years for Hilbrands and Hecksel Simmentals. During her time at Shoal Creek, W909 has proven herself as a producer of fancy show prospects, top end bred heifers, and quality herd bulls. Not to mention that Shasha W909 has without a doubt been the most dependable donor we’ve worked with in terms of consistent and quality embryo production. Her lifetime average is 13.3 freezable embryos per flush with a low of 11 and a high of 17, all on conventional flushes. It really doesn’t get much more consistent than that. She’s currently bred for an early September calf by the popular and promising Sandeen Upper Class 2386.

Since we decided to feature Shasha W909 in the sale this year, we find it only fitting to offer two of her daughters by Upgrade. The Upgrade females have proven themselves as hardworking cows and we believe that these are two females that will prove their worth every time their calves are marketed. B111 is definitely the performance heifer of the two that is more expressive in her shape, bigger footed, and built stouter from the ground up. B101 was born a bit lighter and is building steam catching up, but don’t overlook her as she may be the better cow in the long run as she’s more flexible at the ground, softer centered, and more moderate in her frame.

Her sister, SC Shasha Z162, made a lot of friends last year at State Fair time and earned herself a trip to the donor pen after her first calf in September. A108 reminds me a lot of her sister at this time last year and is positioned to only get better. Her sister was always a unique individual in the way she put together her sleek front end, the really fresh look she had as fall bred at State Fair time in August, and the near perfect udder that she made when calving time came in September. I would expect A108 to be just the same. Limestone Lola W232 came to Shoal Creek last spring as the high selling lot in the 2014 Diamonds and Spurs Sale at Owen Brothers Cattle Co. A short time later, her daughter by JF Milestone was crowned Champion Percentage Female at the AJSA National Classic in Louisville, after a long show career highlighted by many banners as she was led by Tanner Howey of Texas. Needless to say we were excited when we acquired Lola and the excitement has only grown since. With her unique pedigree as a Steel Force daughter out of a full sister to the ever popular BC Lookout, the potential for success both in the ring and the pasture is as good as any. When deciding on cattle for this sale, Dad and I decided to offer something a little different. We decided to offer pick of our T18 x Upper Class calves. We ended up having four heifers and a bull from this mating. These calves are everything he had hoped they would be. They really have a lot of eye appeal, nice fronted and profile great. In the spring of 2011, we began our Red Angus herd with the purchase of 43 bred heifers from Lacy Red Angus of Drexel, MO. While we have primarily concentrated on breeding purebred Red Angus we have experimented with creating some Sim x Red Angus half bloods, working to blend the calving ease and high maternal traits of the Red Angus with the power and performance found in the Simmental genetics. A3013, A3016, and A3019 fit the mold well. Their differences on paper are minimal, as they are all sired by the high accuracy WS Beef Maker R13 that excels in nearly every measurable trait. All three heifers rank in the top 15% or better for both CE and API, and the top 30% or better for BW. All three females present a world of opportunity as far as mating options and directions they can go in a breeding program. A3013 is safe to SC Manhattan A105 for a 1/2 SM 1/4 AN 1/4 RA calf, and 3016 and 3019 are both safe to their A.I. date with 3/4 blood pregnancies by WLE Uno Mas.
