Caramel Apple Ride set for Saturday The third annual “Harvest Time Caramel Apple Bike Ride� is set for Saturday, Sept. 6, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Lake Wobegon Trails. The ride starts at the Sauk Centre Lake Wobegon Trailhead at Sinclair Lewis Park at 1000 Park Drive, Sauk Centre. Two options are available for riders — east to Melrose and Freeport along with two additional off-trail rides. At

Melrose, participants can take a ride south to Whispering Oaks Winery and at Freeport ride north to Hemker Park and Zoo. This is a casual ride on the Lake Wobegon Trails. It’s an opportunity to tour a local winery and sample its wines and to visit a Central Minnesota zoo that has exotic animals. Every stop has apple treats to enjoy. The Lake Wobegon Trails Association uses

public discussion of experimental fishing regulations on Todd County’s Big Birch Lake is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Linda B’s Restaurant, 41947 County Road 167, Freeport. Located in south central Todd County near Grey Eagle, Big Birch Lake covers 2,100 acres and has had an experimental northern pike protected slot limit of 24 to 36 inches, with one over 36 inches, and a daily bag limit of three, since 2005. Prior to that a 24-inch maximum length limit had been in place since 1996. Fisheries data

collected since 1996 show significant improvements in numbers of northern pike over 30 inches. Public input on existing experimental regulations will help DNR fisheries staff determine whether those regulations should be continued, modified or dropped. People unable to attend the public input meeting may submit written comments to the DNR Little Falls area fisheries office, 16543 Haven Road, Little Falls, MN 56345.
