Page 1

OUR LEADERSHIP Message from the 2019 Chairman, Glenn Royal What impresses me the most about the Economic Alliance Houston Port Region is the collaborative efforts of our members in seeking solutions that will enhance our quality of life and encourage sound business development. We understand that successful businesses create successful communities. The Economic Alliance has seen significant transition in their transportation and public policy accomplishments, world-class workforce development programs, attracting and retaining businesses, and a commitment to enhancing our region’s quality of life. We will not rest as there is more work to do. Our membership has been busy through our numerous task forces. In 2018, the Economic Development Task Force facilitated 4 wins accounting for 1.185 billion in capital investment, 90 direct jobs created and 110 retained through our recruitment and business retention and expansion activities, and now has 30 projects in pipeline totaling $5.32 billion in capital, 1,784 jobs. The Workforce Development Task Force has coordinated and made over 76 presentations to over 8,000 students in 2018, marketing the high-demand/ high paying careers in our region. The Public Policy Task Force has carried our message to Washington D.C. and Austin with 18 meetings in DC along with 32 Economic Alliance members in attendance, along with 10 conference calls post trip.

2018 has been an extraordinary year for the Alliance with our most successful Gulf Coast Industry Forum ever, with 900 attendees, including keynote speakers; Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, and Texas Railroad Commissioner Ryan Sitton. We will continue our important work in business development for the region and assist in creating tomorrow’s workforce through our workforce development programs. We will seek freight mobility solutions with an eye toward balancing the needs of industry with our residential demands. With this comes our responsibility of enhancing our region’s quality of life as well. Our reputation as the go to economic development entity continues to grow as the direct result of involvement our members. I encourage you to become a member and join one of our many active working task force groups. You will find something that fits your interests and you will make a difference. Sincerely,

Glenn Royal, Chairman Vice President/Senior Portfolio Manager, The Royal Group at Merrill Lynch
