IS THE UCC FOR YOU?
The University Consortium Certificate (UCC) in Sustainable Tourism fosters a holistic understanding of ecotourism and sustainable tourism through multi-disciplinary education. The UCC certificate provides a solid educational foundation with a combination of experiential learning and internationally diverse industry-based opportunities.
The UCC Program is for students who have completed their Freshman and Sophomore year and hold the equivalent Junior or Senior standing. The UCC program offers a creative alternative course of study for those who seeking a holistic understanding of structuring, programming, and implementing ecotourism and sustainable tourism. Through the UCC Program, you will gain an inherent, reality-based understanding of the principles of ecotourism and sustainable tourism, preparing you for a future as a tourism professional.
Develop relevant skills through a flexible curriculum: The UCC is applicable to a range of academic disciplines and degree programs such as architecture, business, environmental studies, geography, hospitality, law, public administration and recreation. Gain credible professional credentials: The UCC certificate, authorized by The International Ecotourism Society (TIES), is administered collaboratively by a consortium of leading universities.

∏ At least one international course provided through a UCC member university. ∏ On-campus course work. ∏ At least one web-based, onsite seminar or workshop through TIES. ∏ An internship focused on elements of ecotourism consisting of 400 hours.

Prepare for a career in ecotourism and sustainable tourism: The UCC program incorporates experiential learning with a strong emphasis on exposure to the industry, supporting the development of international perspectives and practical skills.

1 Review program details on TIES website www.ecotourism.org/ucc 2 Interview with the university representative, or the Academic Consortium Advisor (ACA), who will submit recommendation for acceptance to TIES. 3 Complete the online UCC application and submit Student Program fee ($250 for students enrolled in Consortium Member universities; $500 for students outside the Consortium) 4 Notice of acceptance within one month of application. 5 Once accepted, complete TIES-UCC Plan of Study with ACA, and begin course work.
