EYE IN THE SKY 15 Stars Helen Mirren, Aaron Paul, Alan Rickman. Director Gavin Hood An utterly gripping modern-day thriller that encompasses contemporary issues such as drone warfare, terrorism and political/legal wrangling in an assured, near real-time scenario. Set in four separate locations – a hi-tech army intelligence base in Surrey, Whitehall, Nevada and Nairobi, the story escalates from a straightforward mission to capture a British member of a Somali terrorist group into a full-blown purge fraught with unforeseen complications. I SAW THE LIGHT 15 Stars Tom Hiddleston, Elizabeth Olsen, Bradley Whitford Director Marc Abraham Hank Williams, in his short life, created a body of work that will forever infuence and inform country and western music. An ideal subject for a music bio-pic, Hank is played, convincingly and with great panache by Tom Hiddleston. Williams suffered from chronic back pain for most of his life resulting in a dependence on pills and alcohol that wrecked his marriage and marred his career. I Saw The Light is a faithful recreation of his stellar but ultimately tragic life. OUR KIND OF TRAITOR 15 Stars Ewan McGregor, Damian Lewis, Naomie Harris Director Susanna White Hot on the heels of the TV adaptation of The Night Manager, another John Le Carre novel is skilfully and convincingly re-modelled for the big screen. Having definitively dramatised the Cold War, and laid bare the shameless world of international arms-dealing and unscrupulous pharmaceutical companies, Our Kind Of Traitor infiltrates the world of high-stakes money-laundering. Ewan McGregor and Naomie Harris are the unlikely couple caught up in a Russian's complex attempt to expose the criminal activities of his fellow countrymen and save his family. THE DRESSMAKER 12A Stars Kate Winslet, Liam Hemsworth, P.J.Hogan Director Jocelyn Moorhouse Set in Australia in the early 50s, Tilly Dunnage, a couture dressmaker (Kate Winslett) returns from Paris to the rural town from where she was banished years before for a crime she can’t remember. Hostile towards her at first, the townsfolk are nevertheless seduced by the glamour of her creations as the intrigue that shaped Tillys fate is revealed. Old scores are settled, the dark underbelly of small-town life is exposed and an explosive denouement seems inevitable. FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS PG Stars Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant, Simon Helberg Director Stephen Frears ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’ is a wealthy New York heiress who loves music, and wants nothing more than to become an opera singer. Unfortunately, her singing voice is terrible. But against all the odds, she’s determined to fulfil her dream and perform in front of an audience. She starts taking singing lessons, and hires pianist Cosme McMoon to help her. Her sights are set on Carnegie Hall, and she will sing there, come what may. £8 Adult BOOK ONLINE
