01 VISUAL CONCEPT RESEARCH After looking through the brand history, brand soul, and our future mission statement, we came up with three concepts to design our new logo which is Educational, Collaborative, and Innovative. We believe these three directions can help us to make a better decision to create a perfect logo to represent our brand.

EDUCATIONAL

We came up with this concept because our founder Steve Jobs aims to build computers for college students and the new NEXT is going to involve education. This direction will emphasize we are not only a tech company but also an education organization.

In the future, NEXT will be collaborating with different types of organization to create more possibilities for learning. Therefore, we think Collaborative can be a good direction for logo design.

CONCEPT 03:

INNOVATIVE

One of our rebranding objectives is encouraging people to think out of the box and have fun with learning new things. We believe the Innovative is an essential direction for our new logo since it may bring our brand from a nerdy, techie company to a fun, energetic organization.

02 LOGO DESIGNS

To start developing our new logo, we generated a bunch of sketches with pencil, distill the sketches, and finalize the logo into a computer design. This process helps us to explore the possibilities of our logo in three different concepts and narrow down the tone of our brand identity.

For Innovative, we used light bulb and airplane to represent innovation since these two items were remarkable innovations that changed our lives.

After the first round of sketching, we are more lean to the combination of Collaborative and Innovative. Therefore, in round two, we dug deeper into these two directions.

After two rounds of brainstorming and sketching, we picked ten sketches to make computer comps. In this phase, we focused on the idea of thinking out of the box.

Eventually, we chose an N shape logo that combines the concept of Innovative (Thinking out of the box) and the concept of Collaborative. In this phase, we also tried to explore the best way to refine our logo.

LOOK A LIKE LOGOS

While we are refining the final logo, we looked into existed logos that could potentially be judged as similar to the one that we are developing. Most logos have negative space, bold outlines, arrows.

TYPE ADJUSTMENTS

To make the logotype works perfectly with our iconographic logo, there are some details need to be adjusted such as the angle of the N and the width of X. After the adjustment, the stroke of the N will be the same angle as our logo, and the waist of the X won’t have the weird angle.

03 NEW LOGO

The final logo is an N shape that created by two assembled pieces, and these two pieces show the idea of Collaborative. Also, the upper and lower apexes of the N are breaking the ascender line and baseline which represent thining out of the box. In this logo, four hidden arrows pointing toward four different directions. This treatment indicates that your next step can be anywhere, and your future has no limits.

For the color selection, we chose orange and yellow as our primary colors which represent creative and energetic. The secondary color is dark blue; it creates a nice contrast with the primary colors.
