President’s Message On behalf of the Arkansas State Trapshooting Federation Board of Directors, I would like to invite you to the 2017 Arkansas State Trap Shoot. I would like to thank each and every one of the Board Members for their hard work and dedication in making this event one of the best in the country. I would also like to thank Ben Forte and Eddy Kinslow for the many hours spent working on this great program. Ben recruits sponsors for financial support, while Eddy is responsible for putting the program together. Eddy also volunteers his time designing and maintaining the Arkansas State Trapshooting Federation website. It truly does take the entire team working together to be able to produce such a quality event. So, again, I say thank you for all your hard work. I also want to thank our many sponsors for their contributions and donations (listed in the front of the program book). These donations have allowed us to grow so that we can increase the amount we are able to return back to the shooters in the form of added money, trophies, and prizes. As a result our added money this year will increase to $22,700 in-state and $7,550 out-ofstate. Also returning this year is the Handicap Jackpot. If you play this option and run 100 straight in the Handicap Championship you will go home with $7,400 (ties divide). I challenge you to find a State Shoot of our size anywhere in the country that gives away as much money. For the third year Federal Premium Ammunition is the sponsor for our 3 Championship Events. Other event sponsors include White Flyer, Cabela’s and Bella Vista Sportsmen’s Club. I would also like to welcome Banded/Avery Outdoors as the title sponsor for our AIM Championship on June 20th. As a returning tradition this year, the events on Wednesday will honor the 2016 ASTF Champions. Logan Henry, Blake Campbell and Brennan Stephens – Our hats off to you guys for your performance in last year’s Championship Events. Enjoy your day. One thing to note about the 2016 Champions is they are all youth shooters. In fact it is the 3rd year in a row that all 3 Champions are youth shooters. I’ll put our youth shooters against any in the country. Last but not least, I would like to thank the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation and the City of Jacksonville for the use of their amazing facilities. Without this great venue, a shoot of our size would not be possible. We hope you can join us at this year’s 2017 Arkansas State Shoot. We would love to see you there. Until then – Keep Your Head Down. Dennis Tune

2017 ASTF Hall of Fame Inductee
James Vandiver James Vandiver found his passion for trapshooting in 1994. James has served many years in the Arkansas State Trapshooting Federation. He served on the ASTF board as vice president from 1999-2000, 2004-2005, and 2011. James spent countless hours helping during state shoots. He loved working the classifying desk. It gave him an opportunity to greet the shooters as they registered and make new friends. Throughout the years, he and his wife Molly never met a stranger. In addition to volunteering his time, James and Molly have been financial contributors to the ASTF for many years. James made the Arkansas state team six times. He has earned countless wins during his career, in and out of state. Two of his proudest achievements have been winning the Arkansas State Singles Championship in 2006 with the lone 199 and being classified at a Southwestern Zone Shoot as AAA-27-AA. James is a great ambassador for the game of trapshooting and embodies the true characteristics of the sport. Mentor, father figure, and teacher of the etiquette of trapshooting. These are the building blocks that have helped shape the future of many champion trap shooters today. Just like in trapshooting, James has been successful in life. Not only did he serve the ASTF, he served his community as a Little Rock policeman and retired as the assistant police chief after 25 years of service. He worked for the prosecutor’s office as an investigator and a State Capitol police chief before he finally retired. James can be found on the trap field as a fierce competitor one day, picking his guitar Sunday mornings worshiping the Lord, and always surrounded by friends.
