welcome ...TO AUTUMN 2014 WITH EDEN COURT CREATIVE! Wow, what an incredible summer we’ve had! Between our Dance Trail and Dance-along Movie events that took over Inverness at the start of June, the Ragtime Picnics that brought some 1920’s glitz and glamour to castle estates all over the Highlands and our Commonwealth Flashmob Relay (which made it as far as Canada!) we’ve been jumping and jiving all summer long –a huge thank you to every one of you who came along and got involved. Going into the autumn, we’re barely stopping to take a breath. We have a brand new art class starting, Let’s Draw (p21), as well the new String Training Ensemble (p20) class that’s hoping to work alongside Drama Lab (p19) to collaborate on a special performance at the end of the year. Also, following the sell-out success of our take on Alice The Musical, we’re very excited to be adding LAMDA: Musical Theatre (p18) to the selection of existing LAMDA classes on offer, it’s a great opportunity to develop your talents and have fun. If you fancy throwing some shapes, we’ll be carrying on with our popular Street Dance classes (p14 & p16) and we’ve shuffled our under-5’s classes round a little bit to fit in with new nursery times –keep an eye out for Music Express (p10) which is now on Fridays and has been a real hit as well. Special Events this term include the week long Street Theatre Festival Workshop (p7), which gives you the opportunity to perform at the Inverness Street Theatre Festival in the October holidays and before that there’s Fèis Dràma Dheugairean (p6), a celebration of Gaelic Youth Theatre featuring performance from three local drama groups. And don’t miss out on our wonderful Christmas shows for kids and adults, One Night in Santa’s Workshop (p9) for under-5’s and Sweeney Todd’s Cut-Throat Christmas (p9) for those looking for more grizzly laughs than you’d find in the traditional panto! There’s so much more to tell you about, so sit back and have a flick through our CREATIVE brochure to see what takes your fancy. Get in touch by email or through our facebook page (facebook.com/edencourttheatre) to let us know how we can help you get CREATIVE!
Katyana Kozikowska, Eden Court CREATIVE Manager “As the Ambassador for Eden Court CREATIVE, I am hugely proud to be part of something that provides so many great opportunities for studying theatre, dance and film-making in the Highlands. I did a lot of my initial training at Eden Court, including my Higher Drama and my LAMDA (London Academy of Dramatic Arts) certification. The tutors were always there to support me. I had my first real experience of acting via Eden Court CREATIVE and it was their knowledge and experience that encouraged me to take the next step and pursue a career in the arts. Eden Court CREATIVE is a great resource for everyone in the Highlands both young and old. If you haven’t tried it yet, start participating and get Creative–you never know where it might lead.” EDEN COURT CREATIVE’S AMBASSADOR AND FORMER STUDENT, KAREN GILLAN All photography of class participants and staff: Ewen Wetherspoon www.ewphoto.co.uk

meet the ambassadors A NETWORK FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE HIGHLANDS TO SHAPE, SHARE AND SHOWCASE THE ARTS
Esme Leitch EDEN COURT CREATIVE AMBASSADOR FOR KINLOCHLEVEN HIGH SCHOOL Why did you want to become an Ambassador? I have always been passionate about the arts, so when the opportunity arose, I jumped at the chance. The ECCA scheme also allowed me to meet lots of others as interested in the arts as I am, something not possible in my tiny school. What do you enjoy about working with Eden Court CREATIVE? The access to opportunities at Eden Court CREATIVE are a key benefit of being part of it, I love being in the loop, and knowing that I'm actually doing something worthwhile for the arts in my area. What kind of challenges have you experienced as an Ambassador? The challenge of getting people to notice what I was doing was initially daunting, but through word-of-mouth, school announcements and a very colourful arts board, I think I'm getting there! Some people have an opposition to the arts in general, thinking it’s only for wimps, not knowing all the different opportunities available to them. To overcome this you just have to make everything as approachable as possible! What has been your favourite moment as an Ambassador? I think it’s a toss-up between the first ever time someone approached me about something on my notice board, or when I met all the other CREATIVE Ambassadors at a meeting in April. It was great to know I was part of something big! What other opportunities does Eden Court offer you? Not only does Eden Court provide lots of opportunities to see some great shows, it has provided amazing workshops and really cool festivals such as Connections in April (something I've done twice and I loved!). Eden Court always has something really exciting going on, and is an amazing place just to be part of!
meet the CREATIVE team Nicola Gray CREATIVE WORKER FOR NAIRN & THE BLACK ISLE What do you like most about your job? I have been in post now for 18 months and looking back on that time I have experienced some wonderful and exciting times. I have toured with street theatre, worked with professional artists, supported teachers in Curriculum For Excellence delivery, devised projects, produced music theatre, and tutored classes. The list goes on. The diversity and variety of what we do is phenomenal and I love being a part of that. One week I can be working with my youth theatre in Nairn, the next week working with children in schools on a specific project or sensory play with babies or directing Gnomes in a greenhouse (that was fun)! What’s the most difficult thing about your job? Fitting it all in and of course there's the admin side. But someone's gotta do it, right? I wouldn't change it for the world. Not only am I able to provide opportunities but I also get them myself. Last year I got to meet my all time Musical Theatre legend - Ruthie Henshall. A quick email to her tour manager through the powers that be here at CREATIVE towers and the next thing she was in my Music Theatre Class giving advice and chatting to the kids - such a generous, down to earth women. What events are you looking forward to? I'm looking forward to the Under 5’s show this year. Very excited to get on the floor and start devising with my colleagues. I worked as a set builder on last year’s production and it was so much fun and it's a great warmth to be part of something so magical at Christmas time! Also, I have a fantastic, talented group of teens working on a new script for National Theatre Connections Festival 2015 - so that's definitely one to look out for.
