welcome ...TO SUMMER 2015 WITH EDEN COURT CREATIVE! Well, we’ve just about got our breath back from our packed spring programme where we celebrated Burns’ Night in style with Haggis, Beasts & Tatties!, hosted 11 youth theatres from all over the country for the four days of this year’s National Theatre Connections Festival and showcased the amazing talent of our in-house dance classes at the annual Spring into Eden event. Now things are hotting up for summer in the CREATIVE Department and we’ve got lots of fun and interesting things lined up for you. Our LAMDA and Musical Theatre classes will be putting on their Spectacular Spectacular (p8) and Annie JR. (p8) performances respectively, which really can’t be missed... previous years have all sold out, so book your tickets early! If you’re feeling inspired to join in, have a look at all the details of our LAMDA classes (p18) too. We’re also bringing back our Creative Writing Masterclasses (p9) which this term see classes from a selection of fantastic writers including A.L. Kennedy and Alan Bissett. If you’re planning your summer holidays, we’ve got a whole range of activities (p6-7) for kids including Circus Skills workshops and the Summer Youth Dance Week with a guest tutor from Urbaniks Street Skool of Dance, as well as our ever-popular SummerHeatCoolBeat and Summer Drama-tastic classes which can be booked together (including a supervised lunch break) for a full day of fun! For adults there’s the Adult Drama Week and Summer Integrated Performance Group, serving up good opportunities to explore your inner actor. We’ll be confirming even more summer activities in our CREATIVE Summer Flyer too, so keep an eye out for that in June! After the success of the new Let’s Draw (p21) last term, we’ve added Let’s Paint with Acrylics (p21) to our collection of art classes; come along and learn all about this versatile art medium. We’re also feeling really excited to be bringing Babywearing Yoga (p21) to the Highlands for the first time as well!

There’s something for everyone this Summer, so grab a cuppa and take your time to peruse the pages of our CREATIVE brochure to see what takes your fancy this term. Come on–Get CREATIVE

Louise Marshall, Eden Court Dance Artist “As the Ambassador for Eden Court CREATIVE, I am hugely proud to be part of something that provides so many great opportunities for studying theatre, dance and film-making in the Highlands. I did a lot of my initial training at Eden Court, including my Higher Drama and my LAMDA (London Academy of Dramatic Arts) certification. The tutors were always there to support me. I had my first real experience of acting via Eden Court CREATIVE and it was their knowledge and experience that encouraged me to take the next step and pursue a career in the arts. Eden Court CREATIVE is a great resource for everyone in the Highlands both young and old. If you haven’t tried it yet, start participating and get Creative–you never know where it might lead.” EDEN COURT CREATIVE’S AMBASSADOR AND FORMER STUDENT, KAREN GILLAN

meet the ambassadors A NETWORK FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE HIGHLANDS TO SHAPE, SHARE AND SHOWCASE THE ARTS

IZZY MACDONALD EDEN COURT CREATIVE AMBASSADOR FOR NAIRN ACADEMY Why did you want to become an Ambassador? I've always enjoyed the arts; from dance classes, to playing instruments, to seeing films at the cinema or watching shows with my family. Eden Court was a big part of my life growing up as it provided me with regular dance and drama classes as well as showing performances that I will never forget! By being an ambassador, I can share some of my own Eden Court experiences by providing new information to members of my community, so they can enjoy the same opportunities as I did and make the most of the facility. What do you enjoy about working with Eden Court CREATIVE? The freedom to express our own ideas and opinions on how to improve and continue their great work of helping young people access the arts. Also having the opportunity to work with so many new young people from other areas in the Highlands who I would not have met otherwise! What kind of challenges have you experienced as an Ambassador? Keeping up to date with the number of performances and opportunities being provided at Eden Court - there are so many! What has been your favourite moment as an Ambassador? Getting to help out and experience the Breakin’ Convention 2014! Some of the groups performing were out of this world and I have so much respect for people who can dance like that. What other opportunities does Eden Court offer you? I am lucky enough to have had the opportunity to perform at Eden Court many times in my life, including pantomimes, the Big Dance Show, and at my musical theatre school TFX's annual show. I loved every minute on stage and getting to perform in such professional facilities gives you such a buzz! I can only say thanks again to Eden Court for giving me and so many other young people this amazing experience.

meet the CREATIVE team RUBY WORTH ACCESSIBLE ARTS WORKER FOR EDEN COURT What do you like most about your job? Starting my week with the Integrated Performance Group; we are presently a group of 50+ people and when we're all moving together, that's a lot of energy! At the other end of the spectrum, I love the one-to-one work; supporting people to relax into their bodies and engage with their creativity and self-expression brings me great joy. What’s the most difficult thing about your job? A shared CREATIVE Team office where there is always lots to talk about and never enough time to do the stats! What events are you looking forward to? I am currently researching setting up a new Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) service at Eden Court for people who are accessing mental health services. DMT was pioneered within mental health settings 50 years ago and the evidence of its benefits are great. I am also looking forward to delivering more Creative Arts Training for social care staff who are working in ASN/mental health/elderly settings. The evaluation of the training days so far has been overwhelmingly positive and it’s great to know that the expressive arts are being implemented in more and more settings–I know when I am old I’ll still want to be dancing! page 5
