Dundee Rep’s 5-star, sell-out production of John McGrath’s The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black, Black Oil arrives in Inverness for one week only this October. The highly acclaimed production tells the history and the tragedy of Scotland. Performed as a Highland ceilidh, with song, humour and drama this is a unique theatrical event, that remains as vital and relevant today as it was when 7:84 Scotland first presented it over 40 years ago. This extraordinary play looks at the exploitation and economic changes in the Scottish Highlands throughout history, from the ruthless evictions of Highland crofters making way for the more economically viable Cheviot sheep in the 18th century, to the development of stag hunts in game parks in the 19th century and finally the exploitation of resources during the North Sea Oil boom of the 1970’s.

Following an acclaimed West End run, Michael Frayn’s award-winning play premieres in Scotland in an exciting new production from Rapture Theatre, the people who brought you All My Sons and The Last Yankee. West Germany, 1969. Charismatic Willy Brandt has been elected Chancellor but soon those within his own party seek to destroy him. As the noose tightens, Brandt believes the only man he can truly trust is Gunter Guillaume, his devoted personal assistant. But in the world of political intrigue, espionage and betrayal, is anyone to be trusted? Shakespearean in scale but with all the twists and spins of modern politics, Democracy combines the fascination of a John Le Carre thriller with the dynamism of The West Wing and House of Cards.

An aeroplane flies from Uganda to England. Everyone on board is weeping.
Following its Off-Broadway New York success, this celebration of the genius and music of John Lennon now comes to Eden Court.
In this uncanny, high-definition world we are all more connected, more vulnerable, and more human - but not equally so.
Inspired by the song Glass Onion, which was John Lennon’s postscript to The Beatles, this show peels away the layers of time and myth to offer clear insight into the essence of the life and astonishing talent of one of the world’s most treasured icons.
The award-winning maker of The Price of Everything and How to Occupy an Oil Rig presents an urgent, fantastical story from the front line of an epidemic. Intimate and epic, hilarious and tragic, Going Viral is a thrilling new development in Daniel Bye’s unique blend of storytelling, playful comedy and performance lecture.
Part-concert and part-biography, this two-hander featuring West End star Daniel Taylor showcases 31 hits of Lennon and Lennon/McCartney including Imagine, Revolution and Jealous Guy in a kaleidoscope collage of song, word and emotion.
On the ground, the weeping spreads. Is it a strange new disease? An outbreak of hysteria? Or has the world become genuinely sad?

We want social housing, not social cleansing. Facing skyrocketing rent and forced relocation out of London, 29 single mothers united to confront Newham Council’s gentrification of their hometown. From the streets of Newham to the Houses of Parliament, this bold and pertinent piece of documentary theatre is adapted from the reallife testimonies of the most under-represented and prominent voices on the political spectrum – providing a truthful retelling of the Focus E15 Campaign, Britain’s housing crisis and how one group of women refused to be marginalised. From Ireland’s greatest living playwright. Daring, funny and immensely moving, Tom Murphy’s masterpiece about the soul and its greatest outlet — the human voice raised high in song — is a genuine delight. The play centres on the relationship between a gruff Irish property developer and his quack therapist, the washed-up, hard-boozing, misfit intellectual and self-styled dynamatologist, JPW King, who is caught between the demands of Mona his mistress, Helen, the unattainable love of his life, and an insatiable taste for vodka. The developer enlists King to help him sing like the great Italian tenor Beniamino Gigli. King takes up the challenge and what unfolds from there is a pure theatrical joy. WWW.COMAR.CO.UK

Terra Incognita with support from Macrobert Arts Centre. Three years ago Robbie McGuire started becoming invisible. It’s not a big problem. It doesn’t affect his daily life. Mrs Gillespie still gives him detention and Sarah Hargreaves still threatens to smash his face in. But people bump into him a lot in the street. Nobody ever really looks at him - they always look to the side or slightly behind. And this morning, the longer he looked in the mirror the less he could see of himself.
No, it can’t.
Created as a documentation of the experiences and imaginations of a group of young carers, Invisible Army follows Robbie through a very weird day.

Adapted by Nick Wood from Mick Jackson’s Booker Prize shortlisted novel. William John Cavendish Scott-Bentinck, the 5th Duke of Portland is an eccentric English aristocrat whose imagination and curiosity know no bounds. This deceptively simple man struggles to come to terms with a world that is teeming with new knowledge, ill-founded opinion and gossip. Why does he hide himself away? What is his fascination with tunnels? Will he ever unearth the secrets hidden in his memory? In a sequence of events that are often bizarre and frequently hilarious he reveals moments of surprising perception and wisdom. This brand new dance theatre production is the second in their trilogy of fairytale adaptations and is described by artistic Director, Liv Lorent, as being full of darkness and light, like the very best fairytales often are. This mystical adaptation of the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale has been re-imagined by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy with music from Doctor Who composer Murray Gold. WWW.BALLETLORENT.COM
Art should not leave you out in the cold; it should open the door to a possibility of a fuller, richer life. For me this happened with a performance by balletLORENT. FINANCIAL TIMES

Marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, this exciting and unique piece of dance theatre sees the cast of three male dancers represent one of Shakespeare’s most complex women by exploring the relationship between masculinity and femininity. Using Shakespeare’s language as the source, British Sign Language is used to create choreography, producing a piece of visceral dance & movement theatre which will reach D/deaf and hearing audiences alike, in different ways. Once charming, Count Almaviva has become a scheming bully who spends his days pestering the serving girls. Figaro, his head of staff, is engaged to Susanna, but Almaviva has a particular soft spot for her and is doing everything he can to delay their wedding.
Figaro, Susanna and Rosina, the Count’s disillusioned wife, conspire to expose his schemes but then Figaro’s old foe Dr Bartolo turns up. And he has a revelation of his own to tell… Scottish Opera’s five-star production of Mozart’s irresistible masterpiece is directed by the great British baritone, Sir Thomas Allen, and is full of humour, subtlety and wit. Mozart’s bubbling, energetic score shows him at his theatrical best – with a true genius for getting to the heart of the drama, and each character. The gorgeous period designs provide the backdrop for a comedy of social revolution and change that is as relevant today as ever. Timothy Burke (01 & 03 Nov) and Tobias Ringborg (Sat 05 Nov) conduct an exciting cast including former Jette Parker Young Artists Samuel Dale Johnson and Anna Devin (Don Giovanni 2013). That is until he befriends Simon McGurk and his fortunes seem to change. But the fickle world of playground politics soon puts pressure on their friendship and Martin finds himself making a choice that will impact them both for the rest of their school days. Christmas - a time to remember the past, celebrate the present and look to the future, a time of feasts and festivities, holly and mistletoe. A time of visits and visitations. A time of ghosts. Come in from the cold and enter into the Christmas spirit as a dark and spectral woman tells haunting tales of the festive season, lighting a candle to the frailties of human nature and illuminating the cold and chilling depths of the bleak, wintry dark... Following the success of Female Gothic, Dyad Productions resurrects a Victorian tradition by presenting three seasonal tales of terror to scintillate the gooseflesh for dark Christmas nights... Adapted and performed by Rebecca Vaughan (Dalloway, Austen’s Women, I, Elizabeth, Female Gothic).
Holds the audience in the palm of its hand...a near-perfect piece of theatre.

Tippett Bruch Dvorák
Ritual Dances from The Midsummer Marriage Violin Concerto No.1 Symphony No.6
Violin Daniel Hope Conductor Thomas Dausgaard From Bohemia’s woods and meadows: Dvorák’s Sixth Symphony is part homage to Brahms, part celebration of the sounds of rural Bohemia, and all Dvorák. Certainly, few romantic symphonies manage to be so sunny at the same time as being quite so powerful, and under Thomas Dausgaard, the BBC SSO’s new Chief Conductor, it’ll sound as fresh as new. It’s an exuberant finish to a programme
that begins with Michael Tippett’s radiant vision of rebirth and renewal on a summer night. Bruch’s ever popular First Violin Concerto is an ideal vehicle for Daniel Hope’s stellar technique and searching musical intelligence.
