I’m delighted to introduce you to our new Spring Season at Eden Court and wow, what a year we’ve had… thanks to you. Eden Court is celebrating its busiest year yet and we finish with our wonderful winter warmer Snow White. As we step into 2018 we welcome RSNO with a Viennese Gala for the New Year and Scottish Ballet with their sumptuous Nutcracker. There’s more to delight families with David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny, The Teletubbies and Barrowlands Ballet’s production of Wolves exciting children and adults alike. We can’t wait for the big all-singing, all-dancing musicals – Hairspray returns with big hair and bigger attitude, while Dundee Rep’s fabulous Sunshine on Leith brings a soundtrack of The Proclaimers’ classics. Both are unmissable, as is new Scottish musical Bingo! by multi-awardwinning Stellar Quines and Grid Iron. All about gambling, relationships and communities, it promises to be bold, bolshie and brilliant.
I’m particularly excited by our drama programme, headed by Eden Court’s own production of The Return. Ellie Stewart, a rising star of Scottish playwriting, and hugely talented director Philip Howard have created a gripping drama inspired by the true story of Martin Guerre. It will premiere at Eden Court before touring across Scotland, so don’t miss it while it’s here. The National Theatre of Scotland bring their Festival hit How To Act, add comedy thriller Crimes Under the Sun and get your free glass of gin when you see Mother’s Ruin, another hit from this Year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Local stars Julie Fowlis and Duncan Chisholm head our music programme which also features the finest UK tribute acts plus critically-acclaimed bands Ashton Lane and The Little Unsaid. With Burns Night on the horizon, plus comedy from Craig Hill, Ed Byrne, Rich Hall and Jimeoin, the start to 2018 looks bigger and better than ever!
Coal also has community at its heart – this time those affected by the Miners’ Strike. It features stunning professional dancers, a cast of local women and a live brass band. Dance fans are also in for a treat with Strictly’s Brendan Cole, Ian Waite and Oti Mabuse and Aljaž Skorjanec and Janette Manrara all bringing very different and exciting shows.

C R E AT I V E EDEN Thank you for supporting arts education
Did you know that each time you buy a ticket for one of Eden Court’s events, dine at the restaurant or buy a drink at the bar, you’re helping us bring arts to the Highlands? Your support provides so much for so many: it enables us to continue bringing great entertainment to Eden Court, it develops new skills and confidence in our communities and it means everyone, of all ages, abilities and needs can discover the joy of theatre, music and movement. Eden Court Theatre and Cinema is a registered charity and we provide access to the arts for all. Much of that comes in the shape of the events we host at Eden Court, but a huge part is down to Eden Court CREATIVE, our arts education arm. Eden Court CREATIVE is a huge success story. Our team runs over 50 classes a week at Eden Court, making it the largest theatre-based creative learning programme in the whole of the UK. That’s impressive enough but we also offer LAMDA courses and school level qualifications in Dance, Drama and Moving Image Arts, ensuring young
people with a passion for the arts can plan a career in the industry. But that’s not all. Across the Highlands, Eden Court CREATIVE’s In Your Area programme, with our team of professional artists, delivers dance, drama and digital classes and workshops in schools and community settings. Last year we reached over 52,000 children and adults in towns and villages across the region, sharing our passion for the arts and giving everyone the chance to develop new skills and confidence. You help us do all of that. Thank you.
Classes For a range of interesting, stimulating and fun classes for everyone from babies to centenarians, go to ‘CREATIVE and Classes’ on our website.
Support To find out how you can support the work we do in every corner of the Highlands, go to ‘Support Eden Court’ on our website. WWW.EDEN-COURT.CO.UK

Ballet West return to Eden Court with their brandnew production of Giselle ou Les Wilis. Inspiration for the ballet, which premiered in Paris 1841, came from two ghost stories - Victor Hugo’s poem Phantoms and Heinrich Heine’s On Germany and has become the epitome of ballet romanticism. Award-winning choreographer, Daniel F. Job, brings his unique style to this romantic work, sensitively adapting and adding to the original choreography of Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot. Giselle is a fascinating production which combines and exciting score, stunning classical dance and fiery drama.

The music of British composers Edward Elgar and William Walton speaks with a very particular accent but the message is universal. The BBC SSO’s Associate Guest Conductor John Wilson’s affinity with British music makes him a natural for Elgar’s bright ‘n’ breezy Cockaigne overture. But when he joins forces with Leonard Elschenbroich, expect to hear Elgar’s Cello Concerto in a completely new light and we predict Walton’s Symphony No. 1 - a fusion of love and rage, forged at white heat in an age of anxiety – to go off like a volcano.

High jinks in overtures to two of the most brilliant comic operas in the repertoire reflect the inspiration of Rossini and J Strauss II (among others) in Stravinsky’s racily humourous and ironic “Ballet in four deals”. Scottish Ensemble are joined by two of the foremost soloists in the Celtic tradition, Chris Stout and Catriona McKay. Supported by The Alexander Gibson Circle Tchaikovsky and Pushkin: two of Russia’s greatest artists come together in this sweeping tale of unfulfilled love. A lovesick young girl; a cocky young man who spurns her; a heartstopping duel between should-be friends. Director Oliver Mears (Director of Opera, The Royal Opera) teams up with award-winning designer Annemarie Woods, setting this hopelessly romantic opera in a world full of memories and dreams, where the past is ever present. Tchaikovsky’s soaring score, is the most radiant of Russian lyric operas. Dramatic and expressive, it captures the desperation and raw emotion of Pushkin’s masterpiece. Natalya Romaniw (Rusalka 2016), fast making a name for herself in the Russian repertoire, sings Tatyana. Samuel Dale Johnson (The Marriage of Figaro 2016) is Onegin. Music Director Stuart Stratford conducts. Sung in Russian with English supertitles. Lighting Designer: Fabiana Piccioli Choreographer: Ashley Page WWW.SCOTTISHOPERA.ORG.UK

It’s the 1900s and true to the Victorian times, a judge has allowed jury members to witness a séance to establish the guilt or innocence of the accused. Mr James MacGregor, a well-known medium, is on trial for the murder of his older brother, Thomas MacGregor, an even more highly-regarded
medium, and this séance is James’ last opportunity to convince the jury of his innocence. Amidst the candles and velvet, the accused attempts to establish his connection with the jury and then to the spirit world. Directed by multi-award-winning magician and theatre maker, Ross MacKay, this drama takes audiences on a journey through the Victorian era of magic and crime. France, 1560. In the foothills of the Pyrenees, Bertrande tends to her livestock and mothers her young son seven years after her husband’s disappearance. Then a stranger, Arnaud, walks into her life, and before long they decide to present him to the world as her long-lost spouse. But is it possible that Arnaud really is Bertrande’s long-lost husband? Inspired by the true story of Martin Guerre, The Return is a gripping play about the mystery of identity and the survival instinct and asks whether we can ever truly know even those we love the most. Unspoken Truths by Jane Mcdonough
This annual photographic print exhibition showcases 40 prints from photographers living in Scotland.
‘Unspoken Truths’ is a series of personal ‘therapy paintings’ which I produced during a long and unexpected rehabilitation period following an operation on my pelvis. The paintings express thoughts and emotions which I would never say out loud. They are thought-provoking and each tells a story.

One of climbing’s most controversial, unpredictable and celebrated figures, Andy is a leading expert on climbing gear, an award-winning writer and film-maker and has an ability to captivate any audience with his unique brand of humorous and motivational story-telling. In this brand new show, presented by Speakers from the Edge, Andy looks back at forty years of climbing and adventures, from the Alps to Patagonia and Yosemite to Greenland. The talk will coincide with the UK release of the film Psycho Vertical, based on Andy’s life story, by award-winning director Jen Randell.

The Circus of Horrors’ gruesome circus show had its beginnings at Glastonbury Festival in 1995 and became an instant hit. Having now toured worldwide for over 22 years, the phenomenon returns with a brand new incarnation: Voodoo. Awoken by a ouija board, a voodoo curse causes devastation: while the city sleeps the night creatures rule the underworld with bizarre and amazing circus acts - some never before seen in the UK. All performed to devil-driven rock’n’roll and the darkest of magic. This is the biggest revolution of the Circus of Horrors for many years.
Chacra observes the people and life in the remote jungle communities of the Peruvian Amazon, where the chakra is the agricultural area used to grow their essential fruit and veg. Part photographic, part non-narrative film, this exhibition is by Eden Court digital artist Mike Webster. Supported by: Visual Artist & Craft Maker Award Highland & Eden Court CREATIVE
