welcome ...TO SPRING 2014 WITH EDEN COURT CREATIVE! Well, what a year we had in 2013 I hope you’ve all recovered from taking part in all our CREATIVE events. We livened up the city centre with Haggi, had over 200 young performers take part in our National Theatre’ Connections and Gaelic Youth Theatre Festivals, we Salsa’d in the streets and performed our Sports Day! show across the Highlands, toured Beowulf to 26 primary schools, took you on an Urban Safari at the Inverness Street Theatre Festival, scared nearly 10,000 of you at Halloween on Ness islands and entertained all ages with our productions of ‘Allo ‘Allo and Hummm-Bug! 2014 will be no different and CREATIVE have another action packed year planned for the people of the Highlands. There’s plenty of opportunities to get involved with our regular classes, activities delivered by your CREATIVE Worker In Your Area, or large scale events and festivals. Once again we’re hosting the National Theatre Connections Festival from 14 –16 April (Page 8), planning Burns: Life of a Poet for Burns Night (Page 6), and showcasing the talents from all our dance classes in Spring into Eden (Page 7). We’re also looking for 9 more Eden Court CREATIVE Ambassadors to join our existing members! These are young people from secondary schools in Highland who promote the arts and get involved in performances and events at Eden Court and in their local area. For more information on how to become an Ambassador check out page 5. Our SQA course applications are now open, giving you the chance to study Higher Dance and Higher Drama or National 5 Drama. For anyone thinking of pursuing a career in the arts, or for those who just want to try something different next year this is the perfect opportunity. Classes to watch out for this term include our Music Express class for 2-5yrs (Page 10), our new season of Creative Writing Masterclasses (Page 9) which proved very popular and our World Song sessions with new tutor Monica Neeling. There’s something for everyone this Spring, so grab a seat and have a look through the pages of our CREATIVE brochure to see what you fancy. Come on–Get CREATIVE!
Kati Kozikowska, Eden Court Creative Manager “As the Ambassador for Eden Court CREATIVE, I am hugely proud to be part of something that provides so many great opportunities for studying theatre, dance and film-making in the Highlands. I did a lot of my initial training at Eden Court, including my Higher Drama and my LAMDA (London Academy of Dramatic Arts) certification. The tutors were always there to support me. I had my first real experience of acting via Eden Court CREATIVE and it was their knowledge and experience that encouraged me to take the next step and pursue a career in the arts. Eden Court CREATIVE is a great resource for everyone in the Highlands both young and old. If you haven’t tried it yet, start participating and get Creative–you never know where it might lead.” EDEN COURT CREATIVE’S AMBASSADOR AND FORMER STUDENT, KAREN GILLAN All photography of class participants and staff: Ewen Wetherspoon www.ewphoto.co.uk

meet the ambassadors A NETWORK FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE HIGHLANDS TO SHAPE, SHARE AND SHOWCASE THE ARTS
Anna Whealing EDEN COURT CREATIVE AMBASSADOR FOR GOLSPIE HIGH SCHOOL Why did you want to become an Ambassador? Living in a remote village, I have always found the lack of opportunities for creative arts frustrating. I love dance and drama and I wanted to find a way of bringing all aspects of the performing arts closer to my local area. I felt working with Eden Court as a Creative Ambassador would help to generate interest for the arts in my area. I was also excited about getting the opportunity to be involved with projects in Eden Court. What do you enjoy about working with Eden Court CREATIVE? The CREATIVE team at Eden Court are extremely enthusiastic and great to work with. They are always willing to help you to encourage the arts in your area. As Ambassadors we are able to assist with events that the Creative team are running, and as a result you really learn a lot about organisation of creative projects. What kind of challenges have you experienced as an Ambassador? The real challenge is to generate enthusiasm about projects and events put on in my area. I find it hard to bring as much to the role as I would like being so far away from Eden Court. Many schools and communities have well grounded drama groups which mean communication between Eden Court and the area is much easier. What has been your favourite moment as an Ambassador? The Creative Ambassadors meet regularly to discuss events and opportunities. These meetings are great because you get to talk with people who are enthusiastic about the arts, everyone is friendly and we always have a good time. The Ambassadors also get to see productions that are running in Eden Court at the time of our meetings, this is always a fantastic way to round off the day and afterwards we are able to talk with the professionals involved in these shows. What other opportunities does Eden Court offer you? With each new meeting there are new opportunities for Ambassadors to get involved with. There is always a large range that covers dance, drama, back stage work, film work and so on. Recently I have been given the opportunity to assist with the production of the Ness Islands Halloween event, and I did back stage work for the Pivotal dance festival. I will also be helping with the running of the Burns night event. All these opportunities defiantly make being an Ambassador worthwhile, along with the ways you can become active in your community, and I would recommend the Ambassador Program for anyone with a passion for the arts.
RECRUITING NOW! Eden Court CREATIVE is recruiting for NINE new Ambassadors to join our gang of 20 existing Ambassadors who have worked with Eden Court over the last year. This is an incredible opportunity for you to become more involved in your theatre and gain invaluable team experience. We are seeking to recruit one Ambassador from every Highland secondary school, to represent their local area to Eden Court and work with the CREATIVE team to deliver dance, drama and digital media to your area. The secondary schools we need Ambassadors from are: Dornoch Kilchumein Kinlochleven Farr Tain Alness Charleston Glenurqhart Inverness High Inverness Royal Academy Nairn Academy Ardnamurchan High Mallaig High Ullapool High Portree High Gordonstoun WHAT YOU GIVE: > Provide information to those interested through brochures and flyers > Maintain a theatre/performing arts notice board in your school > Post to the Ambassadors Blog, about theatre events and your own personal artistic development (perfect for feedback on your creative writing, singing, dancing... whatever you’re into!) > Attend 3 events at Eden Court to meet the CREATIVE team and generate ideas for your local area > Assist your local Eden Court CREATIVE Drama Worker to produce shows and deliver workshops In Your Area
WHAT YOU GET: > Complimentary tickets to three fantastic shows at Eden Court > Chances to meet actors, dancers, directors and behind-the-scenes crew from world-class performances > A great CV boost! > Opportunities to attend Regional and National Theatre & Film Festivals > Exciting opportunities to work on Eden Court CREATIVE events and shows. > The chance to shape the future of our delivery of performing arts to the Highlands > An exclusive Ambassadors Hoodie > A free showing of a film chosen by YOU, the Ambassadors! So, if you’re in S5-S6 and think you’ve got what it takes to become an Eden Court CREATIVE Ambassador, get in touch with Kati Kozikowska on kkozikowska@eden-court.co.uk for an application pack NOW! Deadline for Applications: 21 FEB 2014 Eden Court CREATIVE is your hub for the arts in the Highlands. We deliver the largest arts education programme of any UK theatre, providing classes in dance, drama, digital media, art, literacy and more. We also deliver SQA qualifications in Higher Dance and Drama and National 5 Drama. Audition Opportunities SQA COURSES Eden Court, in partnership with Highland Council, continues to offer young people from throughout the Highlands the opportunity to study for SQA qualifications in Drama and Dance. We are currently taking applications for the 2014/15 academic year. There are limited places available, so if you are interested in applying for Higher Dance, National 5 Drama or Higher Drama your application should be with us by 16 Mar 2014. AUDITIONS WILL TAKE PLACE IN APRIL & MAY 2014 AT EDEN COURT. The courses require significant independent study and are taught at Eden Court out-with school hours, at weekends, in-service days and throughout the school holidays. There may also be places remaining after the first round of auditions, so if you miss this deadline and are interested it is still worth getting in touch with us. We will also be accepting applications from mature students and students who are studying outside of the Highland area or who are no longer at school. Please note there will be a fee for these applicants. Assistance with travel and accommodation expenses is available for those students travelling from outside Inverness to attend the course. Please contact us for more information. Contact Katyana Kozikowska, CREATIVE Manager at kkozikowska@eden-court.co.uk for an application form.

Eden Court CoLLective Eden Court CREATIVE are trying something new for 2014. We have such a wealth of talent across all our youth theatres in the Highlands that we’ve decided to create the EDEN COURT COLLECTIVE! We’re looking for 10 confident and committed young actors, aged 16-25, from our youth theatres to come together to create work. This will be a great opportunity for those of you that feel like you're ready for a new and challenging experience. The EC Collective will devise a short piece for the CREATIVE Showcase on the 27 Mar 2014 and a performance to take to the National Festival ofYouth Theatre 04 - 07 July 2014. We may also look at other performance opportunities for this piece. To audition you must be a past or present member of one of Eden Court CREATIVE’s youth theatres and be able to rehearse between Jan - July 2014. We haven’t figured out the how’s yet but the most important thing is that you're committed and ready for the challenge! Auditions for Inverness based actors will be on Tue 11 Feb 2014. Highland wide auditions will follow at a later date.To apply for an audition slot in your local area please email Katyana Kozikowska, CREATIVE Manager at kkozikowska@eden-court.co.uk.
