Accounting Principles
ACCOUNTING STRAND
Students are required to do an additional 2 elective units with specialisation in Accounting or 2 courses taken from any EDENZ programmes to meet the qualification requirements.
1. Students will discuss the purpose of accounting and its relationship to the New Zealand business environment. 2.Students will examine and apply accounting concepts and policies to prepare financial statements for a sole trader and/or a small company. 3.Students will analyse and report on financial performance for a sole trader or a small company. 4.Students will analyse and apply management accounting tools.
Accounting Practices
1. Students will manually process transactions from source documents to trial balance for a sole trader. 2. Students will process transactions, using commercial accounting software, to prepare financial statements for a small company registered for GST. 3. Students will demonstrate knowledge of internal controls. 4. Students will process balance day adjustments and prepare financial statements. 5. Students will compare the key differences in the financial statements for entities and prepare financial statements. 6. Students will prepare, using spreadsheet software, a cash budget incorporating GST.

HEALTH SERVICES STRAND

1. Have an understanding of the basic structure of the New Zealand health system, including key organisations and their roles. 2. Have a clear understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and its principles, and how this impacts the provision of health care. 3. Clearly understand the relationship between health and economic growth. 4. Understand what health promotion is and what it means to improve population health. 5. Be able to compare and contrast public and private sector purchasing, performance, and delivery of health services. 6.Be able to critically analyse the health systems of different countries. 7. Be able to identify the key objectives of the national health strategies, and how these should be used to improve population health. 8. Have a clear understanding of the pharmaceutical sector in New Zealand.
Applied Statistics for Business
1. Understand what health management involves and why health organisations act as they do. 2. Have an understanding of how health organisations should function in order to meet their goals and objectives. 3. Have knowledge of effective health care teams and team leadership, and the implications of designing patient centered teams. 4. Understand managing change by effective leadership of health care teams. 5. Have a good theoretical understanding of strategy and its application in the health field. 6. Understand the social, political and technical factors that impact on strategy. 7. Be able to apply strategic thinking from industry and business into the health context. 8. Have the knowledge required to draft a strategic plan for a health organisation.

Applied Project Management 1.Define a terms of reference for a moderately complex project using appropriate concepts and theories, including stakeholder elements and a defined scope. 2.Negotiate with stakeholders and develop a project plan including timelines to maximise the likelihood of delivering a project according to scope, on time and within budget. 3.Execute, monitor and document the project and respond to any risks or changes in requirements according to stakeholder needs, ensure that all team members fulfill their obligations to the project. 4.Document and finalise the project by reassigning personnel, finances and resources in an appropriate manner.
5.Document a reflective statement on the lessons learned in the area of project management after the completion of the project.

TOURISM STRAND
Students are required to do an additional 2 elective units with specialisation in Tourism or 2 courses taken from any EDENZ programmes to meet the qualification requirements.
1. Students will understand key terms and the significance of concepts associated with the nature of tourism. 2. Students will analyse the current status of tourism in terms of the factors that have influenced its growth and evaluate factors impacting on the future growth and development of tourism, both to and within New Zealand. 3. Students will understand structure of the tourism industry and the roles of participants in the delivery of a quality visitor experience. 4. Students will analyse demand for New Zealand as a tourism destination. 5. Students will analyse marketing as a critical success factor in the growth and development of tourism destinations. 6. Students will evaluate the impacts of tourism on New Zealand.
Tourism Venture Development 1. Students will formulate and scope the proposed tourism venture. 2. Students will conduct a situation analysis for the proposed tourism venture. 3. Students will prepare a business plan for the proposed tourism venture. 4. Students will critically evaluate the business plan in terms of prospects for long-term success.
