In our February/March issue of Tangi Lifestyles, we always celebrate our Tangi Lifestyles Readers’ Choice Winners! Every issue of Tangi Lifestyles highlights some of the best that our area has to offer. The first issue of each year we reveal the local businesses that our readers choose as best of the best. We thank the thousands of you who took time to vote. On behalf of our fellow business owners, we thank the residents of our parish for shopping locally, not only this past holiday season, but for all of 2023. When local businesses do well, they invest right back into our community. rittany Howes and Amy Smith, owners of Strawberry Manor in Ponchatoula, share a passion for serving people and their community. Their love of bringing friends and family together through entertainment refined a hobby of hosting dinners, birthday parties, and wedding planning into a successful business serving the public. They began designing, decorating, and coordinating logistics for private parties, weddings, and corporate functions. Before long this involved traveling throughout neighboring parishes, transforming backyards and private venues into their clients’ dream events. Brittany and Amy soon realized the next step for maximizing their capability to achieve the vision of each event requires the freedom and flexibility of owning one’s own venue. This aspiration began the hopes and dreams to find their own event space. It was love at first sight the moment they saw the 80-year-old home named Florescence. “We love everything about Ponchatoula; what it stands for, the strong family bonds and the focus on growth without losing your values.” This is more than just another wedding venue. This is a place where people will grow with us, make it a part of their family traditions, and experience a place where our community can come together. Our mission is to create the florescence of events – an event in full bloom,” said Amy. 8 | TangiLifestyles.com
Strawberry Manor offers a breathtaking atmosphere that includes scenic views no one knew existed in Tangipahoa Parish. The grounds and gardens are home to 100-year-old azaleas, whimsical wisteria, and majestic magnolia trees providing a story book feel. The structure started with great bones, and the partners improved on them by adding features such as turning the former sunroom into the main ballroom, building a warming kitchen for caterers, and creating an expansive bridal suite. They’ve also added

balconies and completely renovated the master bedroom and bath into a romantic haven for newlyweds to spend their wedding night. Strawberry Manor can comfortably accommodate 300 guests for outdoor functions and up to 125 guests for indoor events. The ladies are already planning on-site expansions for larger weddings and events. Although Strawberry Manor’s gorgeous grounds are perfect for weddings year-round, Brittany and Amy welcome celebrations, such as birthdays, anniversary, engagements, and more. Because of its convenient location, the venue is perfect for corporate events and business meetings of all sizes. Strawberry Manor is a family affair with both families involved. Their husbands, Bobby and Justin, help with maintenance of the property as well as all the “honey-doos” that come up. Amy’s daughter Chelsea manages security and her son Blaine and Brittany’s Daughter Layla, help with setup and teardown of events, and Brittany’s sons Caleb, 4, and Conner, 6, are the on-site mischief-makers! Amy’s organizational and management skills combined with Brittany’s creative thinking and design skills, have made
Strawberry Manor Tangipahoa’s premier event venue. Together they create beautiful events in a breathtaking space while making the execution of the event feel effortless. Through collaboration with local vendors, Strawberry Manor also offers inclusive packages with services including floral arrangements, transportation, bed-and-breakfasts, photo booths, cakes, decorations and more. “We want our clients to trust us to handle everything,” said Amy. “Each event will have an assigned event planner who will be able to manage every detail and plan the perfect event.” To book your event, go to strawberrymanorevents.com or connect with them on Facebook and Instagram. Successful businesses know when to seize good opportunities for expansion — and that’s what Elite Title Solutions in Hammond did recently when they welcomed esteemed title attorney Scott Sledge to the team. Legal partners Ashley Anderson Traylor and Chris Edwards, opened Elite Title in 2020, and not long after they were joined by Camp Sledge. Recently, the trio saw a chance to add the gravitas only experience and expertise can bring asking longtime Hammond attorney Scott Sledge to sign on.
As Chris stated, “Scott is second to none in title law. I’ve known him forever. He did closings for me and my family before I could do them. I knew I had to poach him!” The timing was fortuitous, as Scott, who is also Camp’s father, was just disbanding his long-term partnership due to the natural course of events as some partners reach retirement age. 12 | TangiLifestyles.com

Camp is grateful to Chris and Ashley for the chance to work alongside his father. He acknowledges that he went to law school to one day work with his dad. Just as Ashley got the opportunity to be mentored by her father, Tom Anderson, at Anderson Traylor Edwards (ATE), bringing Scott in allows the father and son to work together at Elite Title. Scott had been watching Elite expand and prosper and knew it was a well-respected title company in the community. It was a good fit for all!
Title Insurance Basics Lending institutions unilaterally require title insurance to protect lenders and guarantee properties are merchantable in cases of repossession or default. Attorneys coordinate with banks and real estate agents, research titles and run abstracts, i.e., tracing a property’s often complex ownership history, before issuing clear title opinions.
Owner’s Title Insurance Also Important As the Elite Title team notes, buyers should request owner’s title insurance, as this one-time payment protects property owners if any issues emerge. If they discover their property is burdened by undisclosed mortgages, rights-ofway, liens, or servitudes, their ownership stays protected.
Elite Title’s Vision for the Future Chris is quick to note that they are not trying to be the “Walmart of closings.” They’ve found their niche providing quality work to clients while adeptly managing new growth and always doing a good job. Ashley commented, “We want people to know whom they’re talking to on the phone, and when they walk in, to always be greeted by a friendly face.” Closing manager Christy Guidry has 29 years of experience in the title industry, always keeping things running smoothly in the office and behind the scenes to get clients to the closing table. Scott enjoys practicing real estate law as he stated, “I am fortunate to be able to see people who are happy to visit an attorney’s office because they’re here to buy, sell, or refinance property. We get chances to make connections with people who aren’t in a bad place and needing legal advice for a legal problem.” He’d also like for all of his clients to know that he will maintain his own private law practice alongside ATE and the expanded Elite Title Solutions. For those in need of their services, the team can be found at 509 West Morris Avenue in Hammond.

Tangi Travel
Story and photos by Robin Abrams
People often say taking a trip to Sicily is “on their bucket list.” I’m here to tell everyone to stop putting it off! This is our second trip to Sicily and our first time to Italy. The sights and culture were simply amazing. We toured Tuscany, Naples, Florence, and the Amalfi Coast in Italy the first week of our trip. We took an overnight cruise to Sicily for the second part of our trip which included Palermo, Cefalu, and many villages around the island.
"The sights and culture of both Italy and Sicily were simply stunning."
- Charles & Robin & Abrams 40 | TangiLifestyles.com
Having a personal tour guide for our trip made the experience extra special! We used Giuseppe Marchese on our first trip in 2017 so we knew he was the man for our second trip. He loves his home land of Sicily and it shows! He was so proud to introduce us to the way of living there! We were able to visit small villages you wouldn’t see with a large group tour or a cruise.
We finished the trip in Rome where we toured the Vatican and the Colosseum. I’d have to say Sicily was my favorite for two reasons. First, my grandfather, Joe Mannino came from Palermo when he was six months old to the United States. Being able to see where my family originated from was so important to me.
Secondly, I have been a member of the Independence Sicilian Heritage Festival since the very first in 2009. We give a trip away each year to Sicily as part of our familyoriented festival! So if you would like to have this unforgettable experience as I did, be sure to join us at the 2024 festival happening March 8-10 and purchase a ticket. The winner will be drawn March 10th at 3:30 pm.

SMILE DOCTORS — SLIDELL
SMILE DOCTORS — HAMMOND/COVINGTON
My name is Marc Fruithandler and I grew up in Coppell, Texas, a smaller town northwest of Dallas. I spent most of my life in Texas, although my Dad’s job moved us to London, England for a few years when I was in elementary school. I attended college at Texas A&M University, dental school at Baylor College of Dentistry, and then did my orthodontic specialty residency at LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans.
My name is Brian Duvernay. I was born in Metairie in 1980. I grew up in Slidell and moved to Baton Rouge to attend LSU. After which, I attended LSU Dental school where I earned my DDS in 2008 and then my certification in the specialty of Orthodontics in 2010. My wife, Kristy, and I have three children, ages 11, 9, and 7.
My wife and I moved back to the New Orleans area in January 2023 after a few years trying life in Dallas, but we missed Louisiana too much. As we did when we lived here previously, we have jumped right back into the community we love via our church groups, local volunteer organizations, and dancing through life with the 610 Stompers! I graduated residency in June of 2019 and started practicing Orthodontics immediately, full-time. I devoted a decade of my life to studying and honing this specific skill set because I saw how big of a positive impact it can have on the lives of our patients - and I love it! Orthodontics can be a very complex discipline, but all the years of training and education are worth it when you see the difference you can make in someone’s life by giving them a beautiful, functional smile. I’d like to think that what really sets me apart is my personal, caring nature. I treat everyone with copassion. I know plenty of amazing orthodontists who do great work, so my goal is to maintain incredibly high standards with my results, but never sacrifice the human element - I want to make sure people know I actually care about them. I care about their comfort, their needs, and their happiness while I am treating them.
After completing my orthodontic residency in 2010 we settled in Covington. I have offices in both Covington and Hammond. My children attend St. Peter’s Catholic School in Covington and we are parishioners at the church. As a part of the Smile Doctors team, we try to do our part to support our local communities. These include annual food collections donations for Our Daily Bread in Hammond, and participating in the DDD (Downtown Development District) in Hammond during events such as Hot August Nights and Cheese and Wine Walk. We celebrate local teachers by serving breakfasts and lunches, donate school supplies, and provide local summer camps with water bottles and other supplies. Smile Doctors is a leading organization in the field of orthodontics. My team and I take pride in providing quality care in a fun environment. With the support of Smile Doctors, we have access to the latest technology and innovations in the industry. At both clinics we strive to give our patients personalized care that meets their needs. I’m passionate about taking care of my patients. This is not just about aligning teeth and helping people obtain a confident, healthy smile. It’s about making sure that I do everything in my control to give the patient the best overall experience. Using my knowledge and skills to make their experience and results as good as I possibly can. We have a saying at Smile Doctors, “Love on people first, straighten teeth second.” That sums it up. I’m in the tooth straightening business but taking care of people is most important.

JA Tangi Awards
Junior Auxiliary (NAJA) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1941 that encourages members to render charitable services which are beneficial to the general public with a particular emphasis on children. Amiee Moser–Parham, chairman for the Junior Auxiliary of Tangipahoa’s (JAT) Sapphire Soirée, recently shared the group's new focus to optimize resources and services for Tangipahoa residents who are in need.

Exciting event planned for spring

Amiee was eager to share details about the Sapphire Soirée , the 48th Annual JAT “Man and Woman of the Year Award” ceremony. This year’s event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at Jacmel Inn and introduces an inaugural expansion of the awards.
Instead of the Junior Auxiliary of Tangipahoa (JAT) simply honoring the top man and woman of the year, they expanded to add four additional categories titled “People of the Year” honoring outstanding local individuals in various municipalities. With the expansion comes a push to broaden the charitable appeal of this annual event and involve past members and award recipients.
Serving the Community
through welfare and community enhancement projects.
Kicking Off a Successful Sapphire Soirée As well as honoring four additional community members who have demonstrated their commitment to service, the Sapphire Soirée will honor all past recipients of the JAT’s Man and Woman of the Year, dating back to its inception in 1976. The group plans to shift its focus to make this the Junior Auxiliary’s premier annual charity event. For this, they seek sponsorships and donations for both the silent and live auctions. All sponsorship dollars will be directly funneled into the 11 projects that the Junior Auxiliary promotes and facilitates during the year, including their ongoing collaboration with Lynhaven Retreat Center. Together, the groups seek to rescue, recover, and re-engage women and children back into society after experiencing homelessness, addiction, human trafficking, abuse, or mental illness.
Examples of the Junior Auxiliary in Action Under the auspices of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries (NAJA), the JAT gets direction about which community projects do well. As Tangipahoa Parish has specific needs, they rely upon the community to apprise them of specific needs from schools or hospitals. Once they know where the need is greatest, they respond by pulling together to help. They collect clothes, do yard work and other tasks for elderly or frail residents and show up wherever there’s a need for services.
What to Expect at this Year’s Sapphire Soirée Attendees will enjoy delicious food and drinks, for which Jacmel is famous, along with live music to keep the party popping. The evening will include a live and silent auction, live painting, and a “Wall of Fame” showcasing the previous years’ award winners. A video slideshow highlighting the Auxiliary’s service work over the prior year will be displayed against a background of sponsor advertisements. Attendees are encouraged to don their favorite blue-hued cocktail attire and come out in force to support this February/March worthy event. February/March 2024 2024 || 57 57

EXECUTIVE BUSINESS FORUM TAILORED FOR NORTHSHORE DECISION MAKERS Running a business in 2024 can be challenging. Whether you are selfemployed, a small business owner or operate a business with a vast number of employees, information is the key to making successful decisions. The Southeastern Louisiana University College of Business will help bring critical information to the Northshore as they launch their inaugural “Intersection of Talent + Technology” Executive Business Forum which is scheduled for Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Castine Center in Mandeville. “Our Executive Business Forum is designed for decision makers on the Northshore with information our business leaders need to navigate in the future,” said Dr. Tará Lopez, the Dean of the College of Business. “Our presenters will take national business issues and tailor the information for Northshore businesses.” The Business Forum will present helpful and practical information with a focus on “Talent, Technology, and the Economy.” The slate of speakers includes Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple and nationally recognized economist, Ted Abernathy, as well as others. When asked what specific challenges Northshore businesses are facing in 2024, Dr. Lopez says that AI and talent recruitment, and retaining employees are areas that are critical in the upcoming year.

This historic donation comes after Air Products announced plans to build a new facility in Louisiana to create clean hydrogen using technology that dramatically reduces the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This safe technology will store carbon dioxide deep under Lake Maurepas, and the company’s leaders knew they had to ensure the Lake Maurepas ecosystem was studied and protected as their Louisiana Clean Energy Complex project becomes operational. This is why the company is supporting a three-year, nearly $10 million project for independent biomonitoring research of Lake Maurepas by Southeastern Louisiana University, which will independently monitor the environmental health and safety of the lake during the construction and operation of the Louisiana Clean Energy Complex.
68 || TangiLifestyles.com 68 Tangilifestyles.com
“We realized from the outset that we needed comprehensive and independent monitoring of Lake Maurepas and said so publicly early in our work on this clean energy project,” said Louisiana Clean Energy Project Manager at Air Products Andrew Connolly. “We are pleased to have Southeastern serve this important role. Their scientists have been studying this ecosystem for decades and, with the Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station, they are singularly and best qualified to conduct this monitoring study.” All of this investment is in addition to supporting the community around Lake Maurepas through the Lake Maurepas Community Fund, which is a $1 million annual commitment to community projects around the Lake.
They turned to the experts at Southeastern Louisiana University, who have a long history of work in the Lake Maurepas community, including running the Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station in the area. Southeastern researchers have studied Lake Maurepas for years and are the leading experts on the lake’s environment, and this independent biomonitoring research will further support and expand their efforts. “Southeastern will be monitoring all facets of this project involving the lake to ensure up-to-date data and information are available. We will make all the data we record available to the public to ensure everyone’s right to know any findings,” said Dan McCarthy, dean of the College of Science and Technology. “Transparency is in an important part of this effort, as we want the public to know what is happening on the Lake and to have confidence in the safety of this project,” said Danna Leblanc, the commercial executive director of the project. “As a native Louisianan, I know firsthand the joy that Louisiana’s natural environment brings to the people here and I am committed to ensuring that our project is protective of that.” Southeastern is directing the funding for research, data collection, and publicly provided analytical results. Southeastern will monitor the aquatic and wetlands environments of Lake Maurepas to include wildlife and other species that live in this ecosystem. Real-time monitoring buoys will be deployed soon, which will ultimately feed data to a public dashboard so members of the public can also monitor the health of Lake Maurepas. This data will allow other independent researchers to highlight any changes in the lake over time.
Southeastern is conducting research in multiple phases, which began in 2022 where the team gathered baseline data to build a basis for its future biomonitoring activities. The next phase of monitoring runs from 2023 through 2025, when Southeastern’s team will continue to watch for any chemical or biological impacts on Lake Maurepas’ wildlife or wetlands and aquatic environments. To learn more about how Air Products is ensuring the health and safety of Lake Maurepas, visit safety.CleanEnergyLouisiana.com.
In total, SLU has devoted a team of five principal researchers, with a supporting research team of 16 post doctoral and graduate students who will focus on studying all aspects of the Lake’s ecosystem, wildlife and fisheries.

Kati Morse LeBreton is a familiar face around our community. A Ponchatoula native, she is daughter to Kelly and Abby Morse, sister to Caleb Morse and wife to Michael LeBreton. After graduating Ponchatoula High School (’09) she played softball at SLU where she earned her Bachelors in Mass Communication and Masters in Organizational Communication. After some time as a broadcast journalist and sideline reporter for companies such as ESPN, Kati was the Assistant Director of Operations for Coach Willie Fritz’s Tulane Football organization for five years. Post-covid, she has worked with the Hammond DDD and SLU’s Alumni Center. As founder of The Redhead Method, she is perfectly positioned for her current role as Fidelity Bank’s Director of P.O.W.E.R. (Potential Of Women Entrepreneurs Realized) where she assists and inspires women business owners. She’s certainly a gogetter and these are her 5 favorite things… 72 || TangiLifestyles.com Tangilifestyles.com

A Good Story
Whether listening to a podcast, reading one of many physical copies of Stephen King, or watching a documentary, she’s constantly absorbing stories. As a child, the only time she’d play with Barbies was when she’d sit them down in rows and “read to them”. Kati aspires to write children’s books based on her favorite storytellers and grandfathers: Melvin Adams and Richard Morse.
The Redhead Method

Kati’s experience in both digital media and collegiate athletics opened her eyes to the huge gap in digital literacy for people of all ages and stages. So two years ago, she launched The Redhead Method which is a custom digital literacy education program which instructs how to develop positive digital habits and build healthy relationships with our digital devices.

Experiences, Not Things Instead of buying each other Christmas gifts each year, Kati and her husband Michael plan a trip to a new city. Whether it’s a historical tour, a round of margaritas, or a few miles on rented bicycles, these trips hold some of her fondest memories. They recently went to Savannah, Georgia; and in the same day she found the place she would like to be buried (Bonaventura Cemetery) AND the country’s best dueling pianos bar (Savannah Smiles.)
Musical Theater In 2021 Kati stepped out of her comfort zone and auditioned for the Columbia Theatre’s production of The Wizard of Oz. The Columbia’s Jim Winter took a chance on this 30-year-old with zero experience and cast her as Tree #1, and she loved every second of it. This spring, she’ll perform in the Columbia’s production of Grease. Kati encourages: Always try new things!

Her Funny Family One of her true joys is making others laugh. She prides herself in being “the funny one” in any group. But when she’s around her family, she has some serious competition! Videos of her dad (aka “Papa Kelly”) have gone viral several times, and her brother Caleb is basically an insult comic. Laughing with her family is balm for her soul! February/March 2024 | 73
