Letter From The Editor

Recently, the DEA issued a statement reinforcing their position that cannabis has no medical benefit whatsoever, consequently recommending that it remain a Schedule 1 drug. In response to their blatant lies and attempt to save jobs and DEA funding, this issue we bring you the story of the Federal Marijuana patients. We traveled to Oregon, one of our favorite legal cannabis states, where we were met with warmth, kindness and open arms by our fellow colleagues in this industry. We had such an amazing time, it was almost unnoticeable that we were on a mission to uncover the truth about the government’s lies. How is it that the Federal government says there is no medical benefit to marijuana, yet there are two patients currently receiving medical Federal cannabis issued by the government? How are their medical rights any different than anyone else’s? We learned that the Federal weed they are sending out is 8 years old, grown in 2009, testing at less than 5% THC. While these patients had to sue the government in order to obtain safe access to Federal medical cannabis, why is it that George W. Bush decided to shut down the Compassionate Innovative New Drug Program so that no one else could ever legally obtain Federal pot? Additionally, we would like to point out how unethical it is for Federally employed doctors and scientists to be sending out medical cannabis from nearly a decade ago. In case you didn’t know, cannabis loses 20% THC potency each year it’s stored, and thereby increases in CBN levels. It’s no wonder the cannabis tests at such low THC potencies. The quality of the cannabis supplied from the Feds is extremely questionable. Higher quality cannabis is available that is easier to obtain than from the Feds. As we already know, marijuana has become legally and medically available in several states, which makes the government weed almost a monthly souvenir to remind the two surviving patients of the program of their legacies.

Nevertheless, the truth exists in the mainstream today. Share the knowledge and spread the word. Anytime anyone ever says, “Yeah, but it’s still a Schedule I Drug,” now you can educate them about the hypocrisy and let everyone you know understand that we are still uncovering so many amazing facts and stories while continuing to make history together as an industry.

I encourage you to talk to someone new about cannabis, whether it’s your neighbor, your barista, lunch waiter or family members. Every conversation is an opportunity to educate. Until cannabis is DESCHEDULED and off the Controlled Drug Substance List, we still have work to do.

POLICY

Tomer Grassiany, Contributor

Welcome to the Policy Update Column! This is where you can now find a recap on the current state of cannabis related legislation and policy, on the federal, state, and local level. Starting with the good news: Five states - Arizona, California, Maine, Massachusetts and Nevada - are going to have recreational cannabis on the November ballot! Recent polls show favorable numbers for California, Maine and Nevada, while Massachusetts and especially Arizona face a tougher battle. Prop 64, the California initiative (also known as AUMA or the Sean Parker initiative) enjoys the most favorable poll results, with 60% support among likely voters. Unlike previous attempts for legalization in California, the current initiative has a united coalition behind it with organizations such as the Drug Policy Alliance and Marijuana Policy Project, and the initiative goes into more regulatory details and creates the infrastructure that was missing in prior legalization attempts. Having raised nearly $8.5 million to support the legalization efforts, with the opposition raising less than $200k, and despite concerns from the cannabis industry claiming it will have a negative effect on medical cannabis and pave the way for a Big Tobacco style takeover, signs point to a successful passage of the initiative.

Edibles Magazine Issue 27

On a less positive note, the DEA has decided to keep cannabis as a Schedule 1 drug, citing the need to prove medicinal properties. The irony and hypocrisy has not been lost on the cannabis community, with a new viral campaign designed to draw attention to #6,630,507, a patent titled "Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants", which was issued to the US Department of Health back in 2003, and describes benefits for the treatment of stroke and trauma, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and HIV dementia.

While most people agrees Cannabis should not be a Schedule 1 drug, there is no consensus on how to classify it. Some argue it should be simply descheduled, some believe it should be completely removed from the Controlled Substance Act, and others feel it deserves a new class of its own.

Hollyweed Is Coming To Town Another Academy Oscar winner to light up will be Kathy Bates as Netflix has given a series order to “Disjointed,” a comedy from successful show producer Chuck Lorre. Bates stars as a lifelong marijuana-legalization advocate who realizes her dream of running a pot dispensary in Los Angeles. Working alongside Bates's character is her son, three “budtenders”, and a security guard. The comedy will share the “High” profile of what it’s like working in a dispensary setting.

The flowering of new TV and film productions is having a budding flare as the top producers are lighting up the small and big screen with cannabis programming. Since the groundbreaking television series “Weeds” originally had it’s debut on the Showtime network eleven years ago, the canna-business has been consistently growing, changing, and evolving at an exponential rate. It seems that more and more each day, the mainstreaming of cannabis is becoming a reality. As we experience a matter of fact presentation of life in home entertainment that just happens to involve a bit of infusion, we’ll be further paving the path toward acceptance and legalization.

One breakthrough show in production is coming from Sony TV for streaming content, and is inspired by the book, Humboldt: Life on America’s Marijuana Frontier, written by Emily Brady. This story, “Humboldt”, will highlight the Northern California community, which for nearly 40 years has existed primarily on the cultivation and sale of marijuana. After a year of residing within the secretive society of cannabis cultivators, Brady was able to smoke out the everyday life and personal aspects as California transcends into legalization. John Malkovich, the two time Academy nominated actor, will star as the dynamic patriarch of an influential family whose lives are gritty and sticky with resin. Malkovich rarely is featured on the small screen and his most recent TV foray was on NBC's short-lived pirate drama Crossbones. This is coming from Sony TV and Anonymous Content (True Detective, Mr. Robot), and was written on spec by Michael A. Lerner (Love & Mercy). EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

Lorre and David Javerbaum serve as writers and executive producers on the series, which received a 20-episode season-one order, from Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television. “Disjointed” is Lorre’s first non-CBS television show since ABC’s “Dharma & Greg.” He currently has “The Big Bang Theory” and “Mom” at the broadcast network. Bates’ most recent television work came in the last three seasons of Ryan Murphy’s FX anthology “American Horror Story.” She won an Emmy in 2015 for “American Horror Story: Coven.” She also won a guest-actress Emmy in 2012 for her work on Lorre’s “Two and a Half Men.” Her Academy Award came from her starring role in the film ” Misery”, which had critical acclaim. Nice to see that the quality of programing is growing green with talented writers and directors.

HBO has picked up six episodes of High Maintenance, created by husband and wife team, Katja Blichfeld & Ben Sinclair back in 2012. Starting as a web series, it gained popularity and is now receiving attention as we move further towards legalization. Ben Sinclair stars as a nameless marijuana deliveryman called “The Guy” as he delivers his product to clients in New York City. Each episode focuses on a new set of characters as they all procure their cannabis from Sinclair's character. Also in development from Adam and Naomi Scott of Get Rad Productions, have created “Buds” and sold it to NBC with writer/comic Joe Mande (Parks & Recreation). The comedy revolves around the day-to-day operations

Comedian Margaret Cho has been harvested to star in an Amazon marijuana-themed family dramedy, titled “Highland.” This project follows Cho’s character, who after court-ordered rehab gets a chance to start over, but has to move in with her dysfunctional family now running a dispensary. Co-produced by Tomorrow Studios and Amazon Studios, “Highland” hails from writer Liz Sarnoff (“Deadwood,” “Lost,” “Alcatraz”). Cho is attached besides starring to executive produce the show. Cho starred in her own sitcom on ABC, “AllAmerican Girl”, from 1994-1995, and she recently guest starred on ABC’s Ken Jeong comedy “Dr. Ken.” She had EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

a longtime role on “Drop Dead Diva,” and also recently appeared on E!’s “Fashion Police.” Cho is optimistic. The show boasts some impressive cannabis credentials as well as a fresh comedy pedigree provided by the two leading ladies. On a regularly scheduled programming occasional and ever more casual references are popping up every day. They are small at this time, but growing in numbers on a weekly basis. For instance, edibles have been featured in Golden Globe, Emmy winning shows “Orange Is the New Black” and “Modern Family”. Netflix series “Frankie and Grace” starring Lilly Tomlin and Jane Fonda seem to have smoked and toked in most every episode, now going into their third season. This is not these ladies first soiree in cannabis on screen as you may recall the memorable munchie fix was in the comedy “9 To 5”, when Lilly, Jane, and Dolly Parton indulged in a joint and had barbeque. Even more a sign of the times that United Talent Agency (UTA) has signed the publication High Times to its roster as it becomes the first official cannabis client for a major Hollywood agency. High Times, has been the go to print publication for over 40 years, dedicated to the culture, lifestyle, cultivation, and activism of cannabis. Back in 1974 is when the ground breaking magazine took a risk with what was at that time, a very provocative subject. UTA will represent High Times across film, television, digital, consumer products, licensing, games and premium brand sponsorships. This is the first cannabis based business to be regarded enough of a name talent to find a top agent to represent them. As cannabis themed TV and film are budding in demand the green grass is growing with awareness. Medicinal and recreational access to cannabis is now available in 23 states and with the impending November election possibly set to raise that to a higher statistic. This makes the acceptance even more of a high time for main stream media. As most know, the entertainment industry has a large contingent of 420 friendly creative staff, who is now feeling comfortable about coming out in the workplace. In the last year alone, a great many more pitches had a green theme to story lines than ever before. As this country become legitimized, the reflection in programing cannabis centric stories will only continue to grow, and yield even more successful harvests for the networks behind them. So,do you think you’re ready for Hollyweed coming to your town?

FDA LABEL UPDATES

FOOD & DRUG TEXT HERE

B. Le Grand

Something very exciting happened on July 26th of this year. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) finally decided it was time to update the nutritional label format that we see on all food packages. For years we have been looking at labels that were created back in 1990 and as the times have changed, so have our dietary concerns. The official information with all the regulation changes is long and complex, but you can read it on the FDA website here: http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/ GuidanceDocumentsRegulatoryInformation/ LabelingNutrition/ucm385663.htm#highlights

Serving sizes are also changing. A serving of ice cream is now 1 cup instead of ½ cup and soda now has an official serving size of 12-oz instead of 8-oz. Americans eat more food and larger serving sizes reflect what we are really putting into our mouth.

Cannabis food makers should research their own state laws and see what the nutrition label format requirements are for cannabis infused food products. They may not be the same as what the With cannabis food products not quite legal in the eyes of FDA is mandating for non-cannabis the federal government, medible makers often don’t have food products. Federal Marijuana Patient:

ELVY MUSIKKA

TEXT HERE INTERVIEW

The Proof we’ve been lied to Keiko Beatie, Staff Editor

Elvy Receives Federal Government Prescription Cannabis Since 1988 Elvy Musikka!? Who she is, and why you should know who she is if you consume medical cannabis! Elvy Musikka resides in Eugene, Oregon, where she is close to her son and his family in a quaint downtown apartment. She lives near an abundance of stores and restaurants in a place with small town energy that makes you feel right at home. Here we are, in a recreational state about to unveil to many in the community and industry of cannabis, a clandestine aspect of our United States Federal Government. A subject of which information has been squelched, scenarios altered for secrecy, and an appearance of cover ups galore as... Elvy has been receiving free medical cannabis for 28 years, from (shhhhhhh) Uncle Sam!

Edibles Magazine Issue 27

How did this secret program get initiated into our Federal Government? The Compassionate Care Investigational New Drug Study program began after Robert C. Randall filed a lawsuit against the Food and Drug Administration, The National Institute on Drug Abuse, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Health, Education & Welfare. Robert was afflicted with glaucoma, a degenerative eye disease and had made a wise calculative move to make reference to the “Common Law doctrine of necessity” to argue against charges of cannabis cultivation because it was deemed a medical necessity. This is the case of United States verses Robert Randall in 1976. After the trial and presentation of evidence on November 24th, 1976, Federal Judge James Washington ruled in Randall’s favor in a major landmark case. The first medical cannabis prescription in the United States since the 1930’s was written, and Robert headed over to the local pharmacy to fill his prescription.

20

The second person to be admitted to the IND Program was Irvin Rosenfeld back in 1982. Irvin has a rare degenerative bone disease from a very young age and was in his freshman year at college when he tried cannabis. He discovered by smoking cannabis he was able to sit for more than 30 minutes, which was virtually an impossible feat with his disease. With an analytical mind and EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

Elvy, along with Irvin Rosenfeld are part of the Compassionate Care Investigational New Drug Program, also known in short as: Compassionate IND. First started in 1976, it is a United States Federal Government-run program that allowed a limited number of patients to use medical cannabis grown at the University of Mississippi. The program is not available to any new patients, as it was dissolved in 1992 under the jurisdiction of President George W. Bush. During its time, they had about 30 participants at its peak, and upon closure they had 13 active participants. Twenty-eight patients sadly didn’t make the active participant level as their applications did not make the cut-off date of the federal program. It is administered by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and at this time there are four known surviving patients who were grandfathered into the program.

of Mississippi grown cannabis. The other two patients Barbara Douglas and George McMahon are eligible to receive their medicine, but are not able to find a physician who would be responsible for their patient care. They would require a Doctor whom they would see twice a year and sign up to distribute the Federally approved prescription. Speaking of the prescription, the cannabis medicine is rolled into joints and packed into a metal canister in increments of 300. Interestingly, after the cannabis was harvested in Mississippi, it was transported to Raleigh, North Carolina and freeze dried. A canister of joints that Elvy recently received was dated from 2009. In most cases, when tested it was shown to have a THC content of 3% to 5%. So for those of you, who complain about your buds not being fresh, please don’t consider Government grown buds in the future as it appears the cultivators at Ole’ Miss could use some help from Master Grower Ed Rosenthal, as well as bud care tips from the local dispensary budtender!

INTERVIEW hold of her, I introduced myself to request a time to meet to interview her exclusively for Edibles List Magazine. A date was arranged and I was looking forward to bring to light this incredulous aspect of Federal Government prescribed cannabis, which seems almost an oxymoronic situation!

Why doesn’t everyone know about this?! A revelation, there are factors that have worked against the general public being aware of IND program. For instance, the first doctor for Robert Randall who was arranged

Offers like this don’t come along for research physicians and the doctor left the IND Program, which left Randall high and dry. Musikka has had scrutiny, arrest, and a litany of harassments occur. As for Irvin, he has a different outlook, that his life is an open book and he is just seeking to receive his medicine and if they need to watch him then go right ahead.

TEXT HERE INTERVIEW at the time it was helping her eye sight keep intact as well. She began growing at her home in Florida and definitely felt the benefits. Elvy first heard about the program after she was arrested for growing cannabis and she received a call from Robert Randall in mid-1988. He introduced himself and shared with Elvy how their debilitating medical condition of glaucoma was so similar and how he was receiving medical cannabis from the U.S. Federal Government. She decided to sue to have access to the IND program and won, so on November 17th, 1988, Elvy went to her local pharmacy to fill her prescription for 320 marijuana cigarettes every month.

She speaks each year at HempFest, the festival held in Seattle, Washington now running twenty years. With attendance at over 120,000 hemp/cannabis friendly supporters, it is one of the largest gatherings in the U.S. celebration of the culture and lifestyle of cannabis. Of course to those in attendance, Elvy is a treasured icon and heralded by all once she graces the stage. She is known to break out in song, as she does consider herself a musician. She autographed her album for us when we were spending time in her apartment in Eugene, Oregon. Elvy is also part of Patients Out Of Time, a non-profit organization that focuses on education about the medical attributes of cannabis with continuing education accredited classes. She speaks at least once a year to appreciative nurses, doctors and

Medically at this time, Elvy is feeling great for being a spry 77 years young. Her sight in her right eye is diminished but there is enough in her left eye to know how to order a cocktail before dinner. Elvy chose a Lavender Lemon Cocktail with Rocks on the Rim to start the dinner conversation. Because of a debilitating case of glaucoma, an operation was necessary in the early 80’s which left her right eye clinically blind with no hope to regenerate her eye-sight. Elvy felt she needed to find something to save what sight she had remaining. Ever since she first started smoking cannabis in 1975, she has been comfortable with infusing. She found it helped her keep balanced with her daily life and little did she know EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

other interested parties. Now that she resides in Oregon, she has attempted to find a new Doctor to oversee her IND Program needs, but has been unable to do so. She travels to Florida twice a year to see her physician and pick up her prescription. On her way back to Oregon, she hand-carries her precious canisters of medicine and the paperwork to back up any scrutiny that arises. Elvy would like for us to realize that we all have the power to change the laws, as for the past 28 years she has lived as an open cannabis consumer. But on the other hand, she has had her phone tapped and her life scrutinized for her actions. Is she breaking the law? Absolutely not! But she has been harassed, scrutinized, arrested and threatened. At this time in her life, Elvy would like acceptance and true freedom from this scrutiny. Musikka says her glaucoma is under control and reaffirms that her consumption of cannabis is proof that it works as a medicine. No other pharmaceuticals or aspirin are available in her home as medical cannabis does it all for her. Musikka considers herself a pioneer, patient and activist. She is passionate that prohibition should not be continued. Elvy Musikka is researching on the country of Uruguay, where there are no rules or restriction on the growth, distribution or consumption of cannabis. Yes, Elvy is done with America and it’s hypocrisy of medical cannabis by the U.S. Federal Government. Advocates for legalizing cannabis either for medical or recreational purposes say the program is a glaring contradiction in the nation's 40-year war on drugs maintaining the federal ban on pot while at the same time supplying it. This is hypocrisy to the American people. While we have 200,000 people in Federal U.S. Prisons for simple possession of cannabis, yet the same Federal Government has been supplying it to needy medical patients for the past 40 years, starting with Robert Randall who passed away in 2001. He was an amazing visionary who we need to honor and acknowledge.

the U.S. Federal Government has truly been holding back from the suffering citizens a true natural medicine. We should not feel that we need to hide or infuse on the down low and feel the scrutiny of judgmental small minded individuals. The Compassionate Care IND Program should have never been discontinued, just as prohibition should have never been passed back in the 1930’s. Government officials say there is no contradiction. The program is no longer accepting new patients, and public health authorities have concluded that “there was no scientific medical value to cannabis,” as Steven Gust of the US National Institute on Drug Abuse was quoted stating to The Associated Press. What are we, as concerned citizens, missing in this picture? Is this an entity speaking from both sides of their mouth? Do they not know what they are standing for as a country of extreme contradictions? Let us hope that the elections bring balance of understanding and access. If you recall 13 people were receiving Federal Government cannabis. Now, there are four left. Others who were in the program have mostly passed

As we head into the home stretch of the November Election, there are many states that have initiatives set on the ballots for the voting public to make their decision on. With this realization of the shadows of insulting deceit that patients have had to endure through the years with the continuing denial of legalization of cannabis through our countries leaders. Derby Lemon, California

OMGoodness, OMGoodness, I don’t even know where to begin, this cookie is so ridiculously good.Seriously when I say I love lemon cookies, I really mean it, so to be honest I’ll say that I went into the bite unconvinced I would actually like the taste. White chocolate macadamia nut cookies are my new favorite sin, so again I wasn’t sure the medicated version could uphold my current expectations. Not only was I wrong but I was so thankful that I was. This cookie tasted like it was passed down from generation to generation. Like someone’s Grandma finally gave up the goods, and then they found a way to take it up a notch by adding cannabis. The cookie is perfectly soft, moist, and delicious. Absolutely zero THC taste throughout or after This is the type of treat that is not for the beginner or novice the bite. The 40mg dosage is the perfect amount because I edible consumer. There is a slight aftertaste of cannabis as on the back. Not only that, they even go the extra mile by it swirls down your throat on the way to tummy land. So when I saw that Enjoyable Edibles named their 1000mg medible BLACKOUT BROWNIE I knew I had to save that mega beast for last. They call it “a XXX twist on a classic fudge brownie”, and that is exactly what they delivered. Instead of a plain old fudge brownie, this one is drizzled in some sort of mystery white icing that unintentionally makes you lick your fingers. When you open the bag the powerful smells of dessert and ganja immediately starts to creep into your nostrils, and I love how this Enjoyable Edibles brownie offers a soft center with the crust edges just like I like.

Incredibles Vapes, Colorado

30

In this industry, vape pens are a dime a dozen, so we can agree you really need an exceptional product to stand out right? Well the folks over at Incredibles recognized this and set out to make a product truly worth raving about. Let’s start with the fact that they use 100% all natural, strain specific terpenes made by in-house cultivation specialists. The reason that’s great is because they know exactly which genetics their whole plant extracts material came from, and they can guarantee nothing artificial touched it. This really does make a difference when it comes to the end result, and making sure you can reproduce that result consistently each time. The oil has tested out at 150 mg, and with its beautiful honey like consistency and color, it's easy to see how this pen won 2nd place in CO at High Times this year. I’m basically saying all of this to say that this pen is truly amazing. I have reviewed a lot of them and this one stands out for the smooth potent taste, look, and flavor. Make sure you go out and try one today. EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

Dave's Space Cookie, Oregon

Dave’s Space Cakes are these adorable Double Chocolate mini cake brownie bites that are small enough to fit right in your standard cannabis pill bottle. Don’t let the size fool you though. They are so awesome because they not only taste incredible, but they are also gluten free so they are dietary friendly too. This Dutch inspired Skywalker OG infused treat packs a punch, but because the entire package is only around 15mg you can ensure that you stay medicated the entire day without getting too stoned.

Orange-U-Glad, California

Ok, so I get this box of stuff to review, and Orange U Glad is the first product my hand went to pick up. The blue and orange comb on the packaging was one reason but honestly it was because it had “orange” on the label and in the name. I automatically assumed that they had infused the orange flavor into chocolate, and I was incredibly curious to see what that taste like….WRONG! It was even better than that. Close your eyes and picture a round ball of chocolate sliced like an orange. It has ridges on one side like an actual orange peel. I don’t know if it’s me or not but I feel like they added an orange terpene scent, but there is no orange taste in the chocolate. Let me know when you try it guys if I made that up or not but either way I like the “whack and peel” sticker and the bright orange foil as the outer wrapper. It will be a guaranteed hit at all the Halloween parties this year.

The container is child proof and comparable to the 7 gram pill poppers available at every local dispensary. Pop the top and take a whiff… no, seriously you have to do it when you try these. It brings back memories of when you smell the chocolate throughout the house from fresh baked brownies right before its time for them to come out of the oven. Then they put them in these cute cupcake cups so it looks like the perfect, delicious little goody. The unique way that it’s sliced sets it apart from any chocolate on the market these days. The convenience of I loved how on the outside of the packaging they tell pulling off the perfect piece of a 10mg piece of chocolate me when this particular batch was made, when it was in the shape of an orange slice makes the inner kid in you tested, and the certified lab testing facility that did it. shout with joy from the playground. It will be interesting That already establishes trust and credibility, and that to see how this company grows, and what marketing is something that we really need to see more of as the strategies they will think of. For a refreshing tasty chewy treat Kushy Punch can delivery. As an edible I know Kushy has been around for just a couple of years building a nice following. I first tasted it at a Kush Expo at least two years ago and recall the packaging needed some assistance. But now at this time I can share that the Punch of milligrams and the Kushy packaging are at the top of edible refinement. They have strain specific gummy formulas of Indica, Sativa and Hybrid in 100mgs and a T.K.O. version of 200mg. With a pre marked packaging of 25mg on the inside of the box, you feel that Kushy Punch is bringing responsible edible standards to the consumers. They hand make each batch and extract through a 3-step oil filtering process for maximum purity. The taste is fruity, fun and an easy chew and not a teeth sticky consistence that I’ve found with other gummy type products. Go out and try for a nice infused experience, as it came on mellow and a balanced delivery. Kushy Punch enjoy and taste the Kushy-ness!

Bakeons, Oregon

Ok, so this is one medicated product that really took me a minute to wrap my head around. I am into healthy alternatives (which is why I use cannabis in the first place), but I had no idea what to do with these Bakeons Bakeony medicated coconut flakes. Do you sprinkle them on other products? Do you eat them alone? What are the benefits? Then I just decided to pour them in my mouth and see what magic happened next. They almost remind you of a healthy chip or nut with the crunchy consistency, but toward the end of the bite the familiar texture of coconut meat begins creeping in. Let’s just cut to the chase and say that they taste amazing. They have this smoky flavor that set them apart from any of the traditional coconut flakes you find in the grocery store. The fact that this is made with sativa strains lets me use an edible during the day that will not have me too medicated and unproductive. I have managed to put these in everything just to see what favorites they compliment and I have used this for ice cream, cake, pie, and even on top of my breakfast cereal. This product is vegan, gluten-free, allergen conscious, and organic. All winning qualities in my opinion. Seriously, we’ve been asking for healthier alternatives and the producers have been listening, so lets support Bakeons by going to madeinpotland.com today.

Lacuna Botanicals, Colorado

Relax * Rejuvenate * Restore is the Lacuna Botanicals motto. A new line of body care products first introduced in Colorado, whose focus is providing natural infusion. With no preservatives they encourage you to use the product within a month of purchase and date on each package when it was manufactured. Sharing in the packaging to use clean hands upon application and using small amounts as it is very concentrated tropical. There are four body sprays of natural oils and scents. From Vanilla, Coconut, Citrus and Natural, I found that there was Hemp Seed oil in them and what a difference as the absorption rate is 98% deeper topically as comparison to other oils. I used at night and when waking up the next morning my skin felt like it was supple and soft. The other topicals were massage balm, tension relief, hands feet and cuticles and a facial formula. I would have liked another type of packaging as the style of the container was difficult to open, but well worth the effort. It was great to see how fresh these all were by the date on each container as well. All in all the natural ingredients, freshness of product and simple clean packaging made getting to know Lacuna a personal mini spa day with fantastic results as I felt at the end Relaxed, Rejuvenated and Restored!

Canna Pearls, California

With so many new products coming out every week it is exciting to see something truly out of the blue. Or out of the oysters of the sea as Canna Pearls. This caviar appearing item is small, round, little spheres of cannabis oil in a Boba type ball. Available in 10 or 25 milligrams, in which you may coil vape, place in a pipe or pop like caviar. I tried the 25 mg along with other friends of different levels of tolerance. One friend had 75mgs, what can I say a “high” tolerance… We were all hydrated, on an empty stomach and in a safe environment. It turned out to be a wonderful experience for all of us, a gradual build and a mellow uplifting sativa afternoon made the time with friends even more enjoyable. It does come packaged with a coil heating vape battery or you can purchase the containers of Canna Pearls on their own. One of my new favorite products! EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

evidence suggests that the medical prohibition is not well-founded.65 Judge Washington dismissed criminal charges against Randall. Concurrent with this judicial determination, federal agencies responding to a May, 1976 petition filed by Randall, began providing this patient with licit, FDA-approved access to government supplies of medical marijuana. Randall was the first American to receive marijuana for the treatment of a medical disorder.

In 1976, a Washington, D.C. man afflicted by glaucoma employed the little-used Common Law doctrine of necessity to defend himself against criminal charges of marijuana cultivation. On November 24, 1976, federal Judge James Washington ruled Randall's use of marijuana constituted a "medical necessity." In part, Randall v. Significant Legal Cases continued from page 37

Twenty-four hours after the suit was filed, federal agencies requested an out-of-court settlement. The resulting settlement provided Randall with prescriptive access to marijuana through a federal pharmacy located near his home. The settlement in Randall v. U.S. became the legal basis for FDA's Compassionate IND program. Initially, this program was limited to patients afflicted by marijuanaresponsive disorders and some orphan drugs. In the mid-1980's however, the Compassionate IND concept was expanded to include HIV-positive people seeking legal access to drugs which had not yet received final FDA marketing approval. ____________________ 65 U.S. v. In a June 6, 1977 letter Bourne told Randall, "Publicity in this case has forced consideration of tightening up the dispensing of your supplies." In response to pleas from the parents of a young man afflicted with terminal cancer, Imperial County Superior Court Judge Don Work issued three orders to facilitate the legal availability of marijuana to treat the symptoms of nausea, vomiting and weight loss. Judge Work ordered the sheriff of Imperial Court to provide the young man's physician with contraband supplies of marijuana; immunized the physician from criminal liability for possessing the marijuana and for dispensing it to the patient; immunized the patient from criminal liability for possessing the marijuana provided to him by his treating physician.

Diana argued his use of marijuana was a "medical necessity". The court refused to hear medical evidence and convicted Diana. The Washington Court of Appeals overturned the verdict and returned the case to the lower court for retrial. The Appeals Court ruled that "medical necessity" was a valid defense and instructed the lower court to consider evidence of Diana's medical need.67 On retrial Diana presented testimony from numerous medical experts, his treating physicians, his family and other multiple sclerosis patients who endorsed marijuana's medical value in relieving severe muscle spasms. The Court concluded that Diana was "not guilty by reason of medical necessity."

State of Florida v. Musikka

A middle-aged woman afflicted with glaucoma was arrested for growing six marijuana plants. At trial, Musikka, who had already lost sight in one eye as a result of failed surgical interventions, argued her use of marijuana was a "medical necessity." Musikka's treating physician, a noted ophthalmic researcher at Miami's famous Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute testified that "if marijuana were legal I would have prescribed it for Elvy Musikka's medical use in the treatment of glaucoma." He further testified that, without marijuana, Musikka would go blind. The Court, after hearing from other medical experts, concluded Musikka's use of marijuana was protected by the Common Law defense of "medical necessity" and found Ms. Musikka not guilty. and if something is deranged biochemically in a person’s body, it may well be that a cannabinoid system can bring things back into balance.

Juice It Up With Cannabis Leaves

Edibles Magazine Issue 27

Keiko Beatie, Staff Editor

42

So now that we’ve gone over what and whys let us discuss the how to juice. I’ve spent a lot of time juicing and have utilized many types of juicers. Of the many out in the consumer market they can be placed in two different categories, mastication and centrifugal force. Essentially you want to stay away from anything that has a heat element, which is the centrifugal force. The reason why we stay away from heat is because the heat destroys the cannabinoids within the leaves and leads to a quicker oxidation as well.

immune-regulating capabilities and since the human body already contains a built-in endogenous cannabinoid system of cannabinoid receptors, it is a perfect path to receive these balancing properties. Inputting CBD from cannabis may assist in normalizing the body’s functional systems, including cell communication and proper immune function. The way CBDs work is that they bridge the gap of neurotransmission in the central nervous system, including in the brain, by providing a two-way system of communication that completes a positive feedback loop.

One tried and true juicer of the mastication extraction is the Champion Juicer or a wheatgrass Juicer. I still have a hand crank wheatgrass juicer and back in the days of studying at Twin Lake Holistic College I grew my own wheatgrass and would grind out my own juice. Oh those were the days when I had the time and a simple life of a student. Nowadays, when I have a bunch of fresh clean cannabis leaves I use a Champion Juicer. If you have the luxury of juicing from fresh buds, an everyday blender is a prefer method as it is quick and easy and you are able to utilize most of the plant products in the process.

This unique two-way transmission system engaged by cannabis CBDs mimics the body’s own natural two-way communications system. So individuals whose systems are compromised by autoimmune disorders, cellular dysfunction, chronic inflammation, cancer cells, and various other illnesses can derive a wide range of healthpromoting benefits simply by consuming CBDs. And one The cannabis and hemp plant is of the best ways to obtain CBDs is to juice raw cannabis technically just a vegetable with a highly leaves and buds. The endogenous cannabinoid system medicinal substance. It has unique acts as a modulator in fine-tuning a lot of these systems,

Raw cannabis leaves, not rinsed, should be stored in the refrigerator or freezer in bags that extend the freshness of vegetables. I would recommend washing the cannabis leaves in water before juicing. Have purified water available to add to the juicing as you will find there is little moisture within the leaves. By adding a small amount of water while juicing in a masticating juicer will assist in the processing. The potency can depend on how much water you add as well, so add the water sparingly as you don’t want your juice to get diluted.

One of the most healing benefits about cannabis is drinking the juice extracted from the cannabis leaves. But sadly fresh leaves are not as readily available to the masses as of yet. Raw cannabis juice is one of the most effective ways to ingest and a beneficial support to health and wellness. The cannabis leaves and buds are actually loaded with a non-psychoactive, antioxidant, antiinflammatory, and anti-cancer nutrient compound we know as cannabidiol (CBD). As we look to unveil the amazing properties of juicing leaves to further prove to be a miracle “superfood” that is capable of preventing and reversing a host of chronic illnesses.

Juicing 101

It has been a slow process as we move forward with acceptance and education to recognize and accept that cannabis has legitimate therapeutic value. It’s frustrating that the federal government continues to classify marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug with “no currently accepted medical use.” And as long as it remains classified in this way, most Americans will never have the opportunity to experience the healing potential of this juicing vital superfood. With regret at this time the 50% of the public perception still feel that the cannabis plant is just a psychoactive drug that certain people use to get high!

Once you juice your leaves and if you have more than you want to drink in a day you may freeze the juice. It may not the same potency, but it will still have the some of the beneficial qualities. A great suggestion with the extra juice is use an ice cube tray, fill the tray and store it in a freezer zip lock bag while in the freezer. Then you may pop out a cannabis ice cube anytime, or you may want to store the juice in the refrigerator and drink throughout the day. With the pulp you may use that to chew, make sauces, blended in a smoothie as there are still some properties of nutrition to be ingested. What happens once you drink the raw cannabis juice is different for each individual. As we know each person’s physiological make up varies. Some feel immediate effects, of course being with no psychoactive results. I personally have felt an energized sensation when drinking the juice. It is as if I had a charge of natural energy and a continued zing in my step for about an hour. It truly makes a great difference in your health if you are able to ingest the raw cannabis juice on a continuous daily basis you should feel the amazing benefits. Raw cannabis does not provide acute symptom relief, but some have had digestive issues bring immediate relief by dissipation of severe nausea as well as subsiding issues from chronic ulcerative colitis and crohn's disease. Others have has physical balance seemly restored and most have dramatic results by drinking the juice over a four to six week plan. It takes that long for plant cannabinoids to fully saturate the body’s adipose fat tissue. Phytocannabinoids are stored in the adipose tissue, as are the fatsoluble vitamins A, D, E and K.

through the CBD and CBD-A have potent inhibitors of breast cancer cell proliferation, metastasis, and tumor formation. The juice is an effective remedy for peripheral neuropathy, which is a painful nerve disorder that afflicts millions – diabetics, people with AIDS and cancer, MS and rheumatoid arthritis patients. Also, one important aspect is that the chlorophyll from the green leaves assist in the oxygenation of the blood system. The more oxygenation within the blood brings more life force to the body. From what we know, these compounds have medicinal value and juicing raw cannabis may assist people with serious health issues and other diseases. One advantage of ingesting fresh raw cannabis is that you’re getting most if

not all of the volatile terpenes, and plenty of chlorophyll. Juicing raw cannabis juice is a health-positive practice and as more of us open up to juicing the leaves I’m sure more information and education will become available. I hope that there becomes a more conducive way to have leaves become more abundant to consumers to juice on their own, or even an industry of cannabis juicing becomes a new reality for the community of cannabis lifestyle. Consider drinking raw cannabis juice to support a positive cannabinoid therapeutics.

Now how to find an abundance of fresh cannabis leaves to pursue raw cannabis juicing? Purchasing the leaves can be quite costly, but if you have the space and the correct Doctor's recommendation for a medical or a recreational state, you may grow and grow organic. It’s not that simple, as growing is a finite task, which takes dedication and keen knowledge of the plant. Purchasing the leaves from a large cultivation when the plants are in the right time of the grow cycle is another way. With that being said it is imperative that it be an organic grower that does not have any pesticides applied at any point in its life cycle. Make sure there are no toxic miticides. The main focus is freshness as the fresher the leaves the better the juice. If you have access to fresh bud, and the budget to support this bud-a-day regime, it may suffice for maintaining general health. If you have any acute illnesses, consider juicing several buds a day. It has been established that the properties of raw cannabis juice

This year has seen an overwhelming surge in cannabis events, from business to business tradeshows, to industry organizations, to consumer oriented consumption events. Infused recipes come from the kitchen of JeffThe420Chef FREAKY FISH TACOS WITH LIME-CHIPOTLE CANNA-AIOLI Fish tacos are a perfect dinner party meal. Not only are these really tasty (and authentic), but they have the potential to knock your socks off if you eat more than two. There is also something really rewarding about making your own salsa, so I included my cucumber-avocado salsa in this recipe for you. It’s the perfect complement to this dish. 1. Put the onion, cucumber, avocado, tomato, garlic, cilantro, and jalapeño in a small bowl. Pour in just enough red wine vinegar to cover well. Add a pinch of salt, the lime juice, and the canna–olive oil mixture. Set aside for at least 30 minutes. 2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, 1 teaspoon salt, garlic powder, chili powder, and cumin. Sift together well with a fork. 3. Season the fish with salt and pepper, then coat the fish with the flour mixture. 4. Preheat oven to 340ºF. 5. At the same time, heat a large skillet over mediumhigh heat. Add 1 inch of olive oil. Gently fry the fish for 3 to 4 minutes, then turn over and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove the fish with a slotted spoon and drain on a plate lined with paper towels. Set aside.

FAKIN’ “BAKIN’ ” VEGGIE CHEESEBURGER No vegetarian section would be complete without a “cheeseburger,” and I love the flavor of the chipotle combined with the tarragon in this version. Top things off with some Candied Eggplant Bacon (page 159) and Lime-Chipotle Canna-Aioli (page 54), and you’ve got a rockin’ veggie burger on your hands.

Steps

1. In a medium pan, sauté onion with light olive oil and a sprinkling of salt and pepper until caramelized. 2. In a large bowl, mix together the caramelized onion with the remainder of the burger ingredients. Using your hands, mash and knead until everything is thoroughly combined. Divide “burger meat” into 4 equal portions. 3. Oil your hands with a little olive oil and make patties that are about 1 inch thick. Place them on a plate lined with paper towel and cover them with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. 4. Cover the bottom of a skillet with olive oil. Cook the patties 2 to 3 minutes per side until lightly browned. 5. Serve on whole-wheat buns topped with cheese, Candied Eggplant Bacon , lettuce, tomato, and LimeChipotle Canna-Aioli for a complete experience.

Ingredients

MINI RICOTTA PINEAPPLE CANNA-CREPE SOUFFLÉS One of my all-time favorite dishes! I make 6 minis to snack on during the week. You can also make one large soufflé by placing all the blintzes on top of the melted butter in a large baking dish. Then just pour the soufflé mixture over the crepes and bake for 1 hour.

For the crepes: 1 cup milk ¼ cup cold water 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon sugar 2 eggs, lightly beaten ¼ cup creamy canna-butter, melted and cooled 1 stick grass-fed butter, cold (you won’t use the whole stick—it’s just to grease the pan)

Edibles Magazine Issue 27

For the filling: 1 cup ricotta cheese ½ cup mascarpone cheese 3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar ¼ cup crushed pineapple, drained 1 egg

54

For the soufflé: 1 stick grass-fed butter, melted 1 cup sugar 4 eggs 1½ cups sour cream 2 teaspoons pineapple juice 2 teaspoons vanilla Pinch of cinnamon ½ cup crushed pineapple ½ teaspoon salt

1. Blend together the crepe ingredients: milk, cold water, flour, sugar, eggs, and canna-butter. 2. Heat a small nonstick pan on medium. Rub the stick of grass-fed butter around bottom and sides of the pan. 3. Pour enough batter into the pan to coat the bottom. Cook for 30 to 40 seconds until the batter sets. Shake gently to loosen. Flip, using a small silicone spatula, and cook another 30 to 40 seconds. Transfer to a plate and repeat until all the batter is used. 4. In a medium mixing bowl, combine cheesefilling ingredients: ricotta cheese, mascarpone cheese, confectioners’ sugar, crushed pineapple, and egg. Mix well. 5. Place 1 tablespoon of the cheese filling in each crepe and fold the bottom of the crepe over the filling. Fold in both sides and then roll up over folded edges to create a closed little blintz. Set aside and repeat. 6. Preheat oven to 340ºF. 7. Pour 1 to 2 tablespoons of melted butter to cover the bottom of each of six 8-ounce ramekins. Place 1 crepe in each ramekin. 8. Blend the remaining soufflé ingredients: sugar, eggs, sour cream, pineapple juice, vanilla, cinnamon, crushed pineapple, and salt. Pour the mixture over the crepes, filling each ramekin three-quarters full. Bake for 1 hour until golden brown and then serve. *Approximate dose per serving is based on infusing 5 grams of cured/dried/decarbed cannabis into 1 1/3 sticks of butter.

KALE SALAD WITH PUMPKIN SEEDS & COTIJA CHEESE Kale is one of the only leafy greens that can actually benefit from sitting in the fridge with the dressing on. Other salad greens will wilt almost immediately, but kale can actually marinate and soften. This means it can also be dressed in advance and left to sit before being served, if you so choose. This salad is paired with other vegetables that will hold up well to marinating.

Steps

Number of servings: 8 Approximate THC Per Serving* 10%: 3.8 mg 15%: 5.7 mg 20%: 7.6 mg

Ingredients

1. Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in small sauté pan and add shallot. Sauté over medium heat until golden brown, remove from heat, and set aside. 2. Wash kale and cut out the tougher end of the stems. With your hands, tear the kale into medium-large bitesize pieces. Place at bottom of large salad bowl.

1 tablespoon non-infused olive oil, for cooking 1 shallot, finely diced 1½ bunches curly kale 1 garlic clove 1 teaspoon kosher salt ½ teaspoon honey Juice of 4 limes 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar ½ teaspoon pepper 1 tablespoon canna–olive oil, plus 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 2 carrots, peeled and grated medium 1 red beet, peeled and grated medium ½ pint cherry tomatoes, each cut in half 1 cup toasted pumpkin seeds 1 cup crumbled Cotija cheese (or crumbled sheep’s-milk feta if you cannot find Cotija)

3. Place garlic clove and salt in a mortar and pestle, and grind until they form a paste. Put the paste in a Mason jar and add the shallot, honey, lime juice, vinegar, pepper, and canna–olive oil mixture. Vigorously shake to emulsify the ingredients. 4. Add all the remaining vegetables and pumpkin seeds to the salad and toss well with the dressing. Adjust salt and pepper to taste. Top with crumbled cheese, and serve. *Approximate dose per serving is based on infusing 5 grams of cured/dried/decarbed cannabis into 5 ounces of oil.

center” of the brain. Cannabis essentially provides the same relieving effects to this part of the brain as foods that are high in sugar and fat. Furthermore, cannabis has been medically proven to be beneficial to pain and inflammation relief, stress relief and sleep improvement, all of which are key factors to physical improvement. Runner’s World has also published an article which provides the testimony of an ultramarathoner named Jeff Sperber of how cannabis has been integral in his post-recovery routine. He states that he uses cannabis as a preferred alternative to his prescription pain meds which take a toll on his liver. He says that with the painkillers, “I can’t do that stuff and function as a normal human being.” But with his prescribed medical marijuana, he states, “As a weed smoker, I can function.”

Doctors at the University of Mexico have published a study which connects sleep and relaxation to weight loss and fitness. They’ve found that high levels of the adrenal hormone called cortisol, which is caused by stress or lack of sleep can cause human fat to be deposited into the abdominal area, which contributes to obesity. The relaxing effects of cannabis obviously counteract the risk of obesity by lowering cortisol level, allowing users the sound sleep they need.

To support this provocative discovery, the peer-reviewed journal Innovations in Clinical Neuroscience suggests that this may be due to the drugs and food competing to satisfy the hypothalamus, which is the “reward

To top this off, fitness and nutrition specialist, Brandon Drenon, published an article in the New York Post which includes a set of instructions for weight loss through smoking cannabis. 1) Empty your fridge and kitchen of all unhealthy foods 2) Prepare a healthy dinner and dessert before you start smoking 3) Smoke only at night just before dinner or two hours before bedtime 4) Eat a filling dinner high in fiber and protein 5) Have a large serving of fruits tossed in yogurt and granola for dessert 6) Go to bed at your preferred time This daily plan will ensure that your body is nourished with all of the healthy vitamins and nutrients it will need to perform at peak performance the next day. The fiber in your dinner will also curb your hunger in order to discourage snacking. Finally, the cannabis you have smoked before your dinner will ensure that you’ll have a refreshing night’s sleep. The American Journal of Epidemiology has published an article which analyzes data from a survey of over 40,000 people, indicating that there may indeed be a connection between lower rates of obesity and smoking cannabis at least three times a week. The article states outright, “despite the evidence that cannabis use stimulates appetite in clinical trials and laboratory studies, cannabis users are actually less likely to be obese than non-users in the general population.”

U.S. v. Burton

Mr. Burton, a glaucoma patient, argued his use of marijuana was a "medical necessity." Testimony was received from Burton's personal physician, an ophthalmic physician who had researched marijuana's use in glaucoma therapy, from his uncle who was blinded by glaucoma, and from relatives and others who testified to Burton's good character and work habits. The jury refused to convict Burton on the felony charge of marijuana cultivation with intent to distribute, but found him guilty of simple, misdemeanor possession. A Reagan-appointed federal judge, however, sentenced Burton, a Vietnam veteran with no prior criminal record, to serve one year in federal prison. Federal drug agencies seized Burton's home, truck and farmland. After serving his criminal sentence, Burton and his wife fled the United States. The couple now live in Holland, where Burton can legally obtain the marijuana he medically requires.

Significant Legal Cases continued from page 60 State of Minnesota v. Gordon Hanson

A man suffering from epilepsy was arrested for growing marijuana. At trial he argued his use of marijuana was "medically necessary" to control debilitating seizures. Research neurologists from New York and Washington, D.C. testified that Hanson's use of marijuana was medically appropriate. The local court dismissed this medical testimony and found Hanson guilty. On appeal, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that "medical necessity" could not be used as a defense against criminalization for marijuana cultivation. The ruling drew sharp editorial criticism from many local newspapers. Hanson served nearly one year in prison. During that time he had numerous gran mal and petite mal seizures.

State of Florida v. Kenneth & Barbara Jenks

Kenny Jenks, a hemophilic, and his wife, Barbara, were arrested in March, 1990 for growing two marijuana plants. They were charged with three felony counts. At trial, however, the young couple revealed they both were infected by the deadly AIDS virus, and argued that their use of marijuana was "medically necessary" to control the nausea, vomiting and rapid weight loss caused by advanced HIV-infection. The local court refused to heed medical testimony from their treating physician and other experts and they were convicted on all three felony charges.

DIE ANTWOOD To Release Cannabis Line “We Have Candy,” Die Antwood Also Has Cannabis South African rap duo, Die Antwood, are looking to enfranchise themselves through big green merchandising. Alongside the release of their new album Mount Ninji and Da Nice Time Kid, Die Antwood will be releasing their own line of cannabis products called Zef Zol which will include flowers, vaporizes, vape refills, lip balms, chocolates and mouth sprays. This was made possible through a partnership with Northern California’s largest cannabis supplier, Natural Cannabis, who are set to produce and distribute Zef Zol throughout the U.S. in cannabis-legal states. Their product line ties to the opening track of their new album, appropriately named, “We Have Candy.”

A woman afflicted by crippling arthritis was arrested for growing a few marijuana plants. At trial she argued her use of marijuana was "medically necessary" to control the debilitating pain caused by her arthritis. Her treating physician, other patients afflicted by chronic pain and muscle spasm, testified in her defense. The local court refused to consider the medical evidence, but withheld judgement. On appeal the Idaho Supreme Court ruled the defendant did have the right to "introduce evidence relating to the common law defense of necessity". The Court ordered the lower court to consider all evidence of Ms. Hasting's medical needs. At this juncture the prosecutor dropped all criminal charges against Ms. Hastings.

The One Month Mark of FLORIDA’S Cannabis Industry

Cannabis Dispensary NOW OPEN in Oak Park, Illinois

L.C. Squared, Staff Editor

L.C. Squared, Staff Editor

The end of August will mark the one month milestone for six cannabis businesses in Tallahassee, Florida, that had received their distribution licenses. Trulieve, the first cannabis dispensary to open in Florida, has reported prosperity since opening its doors back in July 26. Kim Rivers, the CEO of Trulieve, shares that their clinic had received at least 500 calls on the first day from doctors who want to prescribe cannabis and patients who want to take it.

On the west side of Chicago, the village of Oak Park welcomed its very first cannabis dispensary, Seven Point, with the cut of a ribbon on the morning of August 19th. Seven Point’s founder and CEO, Brad Zerman, worked for two years by investing about $1 million in the dispensary’s construction as well as its legal fees, start up costs and licensing. Zerman has expressed pride for his efforts and is excited to serve the community as he has received much support for his endeavor.

“The interest level is very high, and we’re in education mode right now,” Rivers explained. “In Florida, there are a lot of specific criteria that patients and doctors have to meet to use and prescribe medical marijuana. To register, physicians have to take an eight-hour course on the use of medical marijuana, and patients have to have a 90-day established relationship with a registered physician before they can get a prescription.” So far, only three types of patients are allowed to use cannabis: Cancer patients, patients who suffer from seizures and muscle spasms, and the terminally ill who qualify under the Right to Try Act. In spite of these limitations, Trulieve and other dispensaries are confident and hopeful that the upcoming November elections will result in allowing more patients gain access to cannabis. “We’re hoping to see the conditions continue to be expanded and for us to have the ability to service even more patients,” says Trulieve CEO, Rivers. “There are a number of patients and conditions that are not served by current legislation. Though it has been a great first step, we hope to see more growth soon.” Someday soon, it will no longer be news that a dispensary opened up in a nonmarijuana friendly state. "We have so many seniors that come by, whether they qualify or not, who want to help their relatives," Zerman said. "We have chamber representatives here and even representatives from Berwyn. I think the community is a liberal one, and they've all been welcoming us with open arms." The Executive Director of the Oak Park-River Forest Chamber of Commerce explains that Mr. Zerman and the staff of Seven Point have been strong supporters of Oak Park’s health initiatives and is thrilled that the entire scope of medical services will be represented in town. The Oak Park Deputy Police Chief also wishes their success after evaluating and approving Seven Point’s security plans and procedures. On August 26, Seven Points will officially welcome visitors who carry an official medical marijuana registry card. The dispensary is expected to carry over 50 strains of cannabis in the forms of pills, oils, waxes, concentrates, edibles and tinctures.
