LETTER FROM THETEXT EDITOR HERE TEXT HERE Greetings my friends,

Edibles Magazine Issue 32

It’s our pleasure to present our special Veterans Issue of Edibles List Magazine this month. We worked with a very special group of combat veterans who all work passionately in the cannabis industry on the cover feature and you can read all about them as well as see the great photos we took with everyone and learn about the sweet products they have that are helping vets transition back to civilian life as well as help treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms.

12

My father, Dennis Earl Moore, suffers from PTSD. He was a member of the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), popularly known as The Green Berets, Republic of South Vietnam from April 1966 to December 1968 where he served in a variety of assignments, including the I Corps Mobile Strike Force Command whose job it was to reestablish control of Special Forces camps which had been overrun by the North Vietnamese Army. In 1992 he documented his experiences and adventures in a book of narrative sketches with photographs titled “Sex, Drugs and Vietnam.” After reading it’s easy to understand how he came home with PTSD. Unfortunately he lives in Missouri where cannabis is still illegal, and because it’s not legal federally it can’t be approved of or provided Issue No. 40 I Page 12

by The Veterans Administration. I wish dearly that he could medicate using clean green organic medicinal cannabis to treat his symptoms instead of opiates. It’s what we wish for everyone and what this issue is all about. We also recap our groundbreaking presence at Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con where we had a booth and did a panel! We even dressed up in cannabis themed superhero costumes and saw Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Pee-Wee Herman there on the Hot Topic stage. Hopefully we’ll be doing more stuff like that more often now. MJ BIZ Con is this month and we’ll be there, so if you’re going to be in Las Vegas be sure to drop by our booth and say hello. We’ve got you covered for recipes this Danksgiving season and have a whole bunch of new product reviews. The weather is definitely changing so get out the blankets and sweaters and the infused hot cocoa to go with those edibles, curl up somewhere comfortable, and enjoy reading The Edibles List Magazine Veterans Issue. As always: Don’t forget to smile at your budtender, tip your delivery driver and always know your dose. Medicate well.

US NEWS

Smoked Flower of Nor Cal Keiko Beatie It is with such sadness that we consider the devastation of one of the most revered outdoor cultivation landscapes of Northern California. The pristine fields of organic, sungrown flower has been admired all over the world. Many have traveled the U.S and the world only to realize they just want to engage in an intimate moment with a Humboldt bud. The fires of October 7th through the 14th, 2017 ravaged the land over night. Destroying to some, a lifetime worth of dedication of heartfelt cultivation and lives in an inferno of tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with these families as we try and have compassion and find meaning during the aftermath. What has happened to the Harvest of 2017? At this time of the year we realize that this is the peak of harvest season. The "Trimagents" are in town and every cultivation is diligently working to; harvest, dry, trim and sell their units to qualified buyers whether they were compliant, grey or black market units. At that frenzied moment when the flames hit, the harvests the growers had been working toward the entire year and every farm surrounding the flames were affected. With experts weighing in, if a harvest in the ground could survive the smoke filled air? or What about the plants in the drying rooms and other vulnerable locations? Can the harvest season be saved? How carcinogenic is this plant now if it survived the torched acreages? Speaking with Ed Rosenthal, the master grower and the, “Guru of Ganja,” he shared with us that, “If a grow was near a burning structure the smoke is highly carcinogenic and would have serious effect on any organic plant matter that was near by.” Understandably, as the fumes from treated woods, paint and other materials that happened to be in that particular building would have serious impact on the air surrounding an outdoor grow. Weighing in with Dr. Jeffrey Raber of the Werc Shop Labs as well as the, President of the Association of Commercial Cannabis Laboratories and his thoughts were a bit more optimistic. As Dr. Raber states, “depending on how it is processed it may not be a problem, but it definitely depends on what kind of product you aim for and the purity of it at the end too.” So depending on what your end product may be can determine the safe infusion methods. Possibly wax and oils with enough filtration may be able to remove any adverse issues that were taken on within the plant structure during the smoke settling in on the plants. Dr Raber went on to add that “Carcinogens from burning buildings could definitely be a bigger challenge too, but again it may be able to be done, but would be super hard to verify as well.” With the use of labs to assist in unveiling the profiles of the processed organic matter after going through a fire travesty, we may be able to learn what our pathway is in maintaining clean products from smoked damaged crops in the future. May this experience never happen again as; lives, homes, businesses and the cultivation platform of one of the most successful growing regions on earth was annihilated. But with a light at the end of the tunnel the community has rallied around and many fundraisers are coming to the forefront to bring support and light back to the Northern California areas of Mendocino, Sonoma and Humboldt Counties. Edibles Magazine feels the devastation and our hearts go out to the most honored cultivators to whom without you this community and industry is nothing! The heart of a grower is one the most respected facets of our cannabis world alongside the heartfelt healers. May you recover and thrive once more and we are so sorry if you have experienced any losses. Love and Light! Issue No. 40 I Page 14

The Veterans Issue is very special to all of us here at The Edibles List. It’s been our great honor to meet and work with these exceptional veterans and help to spread the word about the passion and advocacy they’re bringing to the cannabis industry in order to help other vets begin to heal. These brave people make extreme sacrifices to help safeguard the freedoms and lives of men and women they don’t know and will most likely never meet. We should all do doing everything we can to welcome them home and make sure no one has to go without the medicine they need. With that mission in mind, we present our Veterans Special Feature.

Veterans In Cannabis:

C O V E R TEXT S T OHERE RY

Overcoming PTSD, and Educating Others My name is Jenna Lee, and I was a Sergeant in the USMC. My motivation for joining was partially growing up in NY and being affected by 9/11, my country was my world and the first responders were my family and my symbol of humanity. From Aug 2005-Oct 2012 I fulfilled 2 combat deployments to Iraq, serving as Ops, Intel Analyst, and liaison to build trust between local citizens and allied forces. This was critical because we conducted detailed analysis of natural and manmade events, issuing warnings and recommendations to support higher command decisions.

Fast forward to present day and the same honor and purpose that motivated me to serve my country are now the same qualities that inspired me to serve the cannabis community. My Marine Corps experience taught me how to be strong, decisive, and disciplined. It taught me how to be

an effective, contributing part of a team. Most importantly, it taught me how to be part of a community. We integrate in the industry in many ways. My business partner and I support organizations like Tactical Patients, a NorCal nonprofit providing education, community resources and safe access to veterans and their families. They host their monthly meetings at Bud and Bloom OC. We align with Quanta, a leader cannabis technology, and we source

When I was younger I was first introduced to cannabis at 15 by one of the “cool moms.” I remember she snuck a joint into a Kiss/Aerosmith concert back in the late 90’s. It wasn’t until I was transitioning from the military and pharmaceuticals in 2012 that I started using cannabis medicinally. It was at that point I decided to start living more consciously and holistically. Cannabis works for me because it is a low risk alternative to opioids. It helps me to manage my chronic pain, balance my metabolism, sleep patterns, cope with trauma and find internal balance. Most importantly, it keeps me alive when death, drugs, and alcohol have surrounded many other veterans. I also use CBD and THCA daily for its supplemental antiinflammatory and neuroprotective properties.

Initially obtaining medicine felt overwhelming, and caused me so much anxiety. I knew that using pharmaceuticals wasn’t working for me, but I was afraid of what I didn’t know about cannabis. My doctor thankfully directed me to the right people, and I have been with those collectives for years. They made the transition to cannabis a lot less tumultuous. It’s remarkable how welcoming the cannabis community has been. I feel blessed to have found it because I know what it’s like to work and be a part of communities where you don’t quite fit, and there are a lot of good people here directing the industry toward a positive narrative.

One of the ways I deal with the VA is that I’m transparent about my cannabis use. I have not been condemned for my usage but advised against it. I think the VA is going to have to come up with an integration plan to provide safe access to cannabis. It’s the only way to rebuild brand trust with veterans and pivot toward progress.

My name is Colin Wells

and I was part of Army Infantry. I honestly joined because I was 26 and going down a selfish, toxic path. I have a long military history in my family so I thought it’d help me get some discipline and direction. What I got was the greatest and toughest years of my life. I learned so much about life and myself. Invaluable To all the naysayers we understand that experiences. The trauma helped teach me as the largest barriers we face in cannabis much as the good times did too, if not more. are social and cultural. one place for more than a few weeks and were always asked to spearhead operations. Before joining the military I did use cannabis recreationally throughout high school and early twenties. I use it now medically to alleviate chronic pain and PTSD. I also had crippling insomnia and now I sleep like a baby every night. I’ve had 4 knee surgeries, and currently have a torn ACL that I hike on. I’ve had too many surgeries so that’s not an option anymore, but cannabis helps and keeps me hiking 30-50 miles a week. I was using opiates before cannabis and I became heavily addicted. So much so that I had to live at the VA combat trauma track for nearly a year. That’s how bad the PTSD and addiction had become. Now I am the happiest I’ve ever been and am finally able to take control of my existence.

Honestly aside from the cost of good meds it’s been pretty easy to obtain cannabis. The cannabis community is so loving and compassionate. I choose not to deal with the VA although I’d love to help more with that. My program is working so incorporating the VA is hopefully somewhere in the future. And to the naysayers I’d say that if you take Advil for a headache, and are against cannabis use for the same problem, well you are a hypocrite. I would tell them to do some research or come hiking with me and learn about the versatility of cannabis. It is not for everyone, but it helps more people than anything I have ever seen in my life. Not only can it help with what ails us, but we can grow it and make a living from it too. Cannabis and a loving environment have saved my life together.

My name is Sgt. Sean Major

and I was in the Marine Corps from 2009 to 2017. My reason behind enlisting I guarantee you would be a longer response than most veterans, so I’ll just say 9/11 had a huge impact on my life. The men in my bloodline have fought in Normandy and Iwo Jima. So many other small stories and little details, but I’ll leave you with a quote from my grandma “The most honorable thing a man can do is fight and die for his country”. I was enlisted from 2009 to 2017 I was always a cannabis consumer and at 15 years old I planted my first seed. A friend and I found it in a bag of some of Spokane’s finest. I read Jorge Cervantes’ grow book while I was going through the process in real time, and at 16 I knew Cannabis would always be a part of my life. I’ve always seen cannabis as a medicine and I’m grateful cannabis was so effective both before and after my time in service. Cannabis helps me since I’ve sustained four service-connected Traumatic Brain Injuries. When I was a patient at The Wounded Warrior Battalion I was a robot. I was in so much pain.

I’m involved in this industry as a patient first, and I love everything about it. From the smell to the effects make me so happy. I founded VeteransWalkandTalk with the idea that cannabis can be a catalyst for getting Veterans into the loving embrace of Mother Nature. We are fortunate enough to be sponsored by Healthy Honey Rosin, Canndescent, Platinum Genetics and Fatty’s. They provide me with the means to take care of any veteran that hike with us. I also provide cannabis to veterans who have trouble affording it when I can. My ultimate goal is to have a piece of land those Veterans can come have adventures, classes and cannabis. A place any vet can come and work on the land for a chance at Peace.

Anxiety so intense it was a rare sight to see me out of my room. Medication was prescribed at an unreal rate of fire and with 4 brain injuries; I was having a hard time juggling 15+ pills a day. Cannabis gave me hope and relief. I knew it was the route for me, so I got an accredited education in cannabis; and I’m the first person to do that in the Department of Defense. I earned 100% on the finals, and I’m the only one in the nation (to my knowledge) to earn a perfect score. I was the first Active duty service member with a physician’s recommendation for the use of cannabis in the military medical database. I am a certified Hydroponicist by way of Cal Poly Pomona and I am forever a student of the soil. My passion is building a temporary transitional housing program for newly released service members. The plan is to except the veteran into the program the day they separate from service. I will teach our veterans how to cultivate their own certified organic produce and organically cultivate cannabis while providing residence in the form of a tiny home community. Imagine a 20acre farm with 22 veterans in 22 tiny homes learning how to be human again. It’s like the reverse boot camp.

20

The problems I face as a Vet trying to obtain cannabis is that I find it really difficult to find flower that I can enjoy at a price I can afford. I really do believe there is a huge difference in flower quality when it was grown using organic practices. I can tell if someone used nutrients from a bottle as soon as I take it in. I could definitely burn through an eighth a day and still be a functional member of society. The problem I’m running into, as a vet is the meds I require for relief needs to be “clean” and either I need to make more money or someone needs to treat Prop 215 like Prop 215 and not like Prop 64. It’s supposed to be about the patient, and that shouldn’t change even after the first of January. My situation with the VA & Cannabis is a unique one because my recommendation for cannabis was transferred from the DOD to the VA,

so everyone is cool about it. The conversation rarely comes up unless they are trying to offer me a new medication and then go to my current medications and the only see “Cannabis”. Puts a huge smile on my face. It’s like the little brother who won a bet with the older brother. I won. To any naysayers I would just smile at because I know I have an opportunity to open someone to the truth. I would tell them my story, and if you still believe cannabis is a harmful gateway drug that will make you try crack and talk to your dog then you are exactly who those commercials were aimed to target. Cannabis is a huge benefit in my life. I may find just as much relief in the garden growing cannabis as I do smoking it.

My name is Jenell Dominique

and I was enlisted in the USMC. The reason I enlisted was because I wanted to travel and to serve the country I was born and raised in. I wanted to make an impact as well as experience other cultures. My grandfather, father, uncles, and even some cousins served too. I accomplished those missions because to date I have been to over a dozen countries including Japan, Germany, and West Africa. During my 5 years while serving in the military I was a 0621, which is a field radio operator, and then I did a lateral move to do Embassy Duty. I personally am a daily consumer of cannabis, and it helps me tremendously. I suffer from PTSD, and it helps me sleep, gives me mental clarity to accomplish my goals, and it soothes me when I experience flashbacks from military

From the VA I have been prescribed everything from sleep medication to depression meds, all of which made me feel sedated. It felt like I couldn’t function to my full potential or desire. Cannabis has helped me with that. I have excelled in school and recently graduated with a 3.78 with my daily consumption. In the back of my mind there is still always a sense of major concern due to the laws. I wish the VA could prescribe it to me instead of meds that lower my quality of life and level of function. To all of the naysayers I would say that I used to be one myself. I believed the lies the media and the world told me. It wasn’t until I suffered from panic attacks and insomnia that I tried cannabis and I was blown away. Cannabis is not a drug and it definitely shouldn’t be classified with them. It gave me my life back and my happiness. I would say before you judge something you don’t know… find out for yourself.

My name is De-Angela Ewing

and I am a United States Marine Corps veteran. I enlisted in the Corps because I wanted to challenge myself, travel, and ensure my education was paid for in full. While serving I was a 3052 which is supply, and I went on a MSSG-31 Tour and OEF/OIF in 2005. I also did security in Iraq with Quick Reaction Force. I served from 2002-2006 four active years and four reserve. Before I joined the military I definitely was

a recreational and medical user of cannabis. Cannabis has helped me manage the many residuals of serving in the war, from “PTSD” to chronic pains and mental stability. I also find myself experiencing less anxiety and I get better sleep. I believe so much in this plant that as a full time fitness and wellness professional I personally include cannabis in my client’s nutritional plans. The problems that I face as a veteran trying to obtain cannabis that I am still in a state that is not legal. I would tell those who are blindly anti-marijuana to do your research and dig deeper into why systems have been created to portray a negative picture about the healing benefits of cannabis.

Hello world my name is Tanganyika, but you can call

me Jayn Green: Your Golden Ganja Goddess! I am now, and forever more will always be a Marine baby. I joined back in 2003 out of sheer necessity to pay for college, and it saddens me that in 2000-anything we even have to make a decision like that at all. I did 8 years and was deployed to Iraq twice. I also traveled the world to places like Kuwait, Ireland, London & more. I was apart of 2nd Supply Battalion and the

Before I joined the military I was this sheltered cheerleader who obeyed all laws and rules because “they” told me too. I was the kid who listened to the gateway drug theory, so I wasn’t going to try any of it. Fast forward to adulthood and returning home from combat I realize now that I honestly can’t live without cannabis now. It has changed my entire existence and the way I viewed the world. I had the worst insomnia when I returned home, and broke out sweating when it was time to go to sleep. I barricaded myself in my house and never wanted to leave, or hold a conversation with strangers. Even going into the VA had become a challenge. Now I sleep like a baby, and I will approach a stranger before they approach me to tell them about the power of cannabis. My anxiety is gone and my appetite for food is back. All wins for me!

22

Today cannabis is my lifestyle. I do daily vlogs on Periscope about the cannabis industry and the exciting things happening in it. I am a writer for cannabis publications that reach millions of readers. I am co-producing a documentary called The Secret Life of Trimmers that will be out in 2018, and I have my own cannabis skincare line called Jayn Green. However, my baby is Marine Qweenz, which is an organization created to educate, empower, and inspire those suffering from the residuals of serving. My business partner does fitness and I teach about cannabis, but our umbrella is wellness. We teach veterans how to overcome PTSD through the use of natural alternatives. Even doing all of these things its still a struggle to find clean, quality, affordable cannabis even for myself, so I can’t imagine what other veterans are experiencing. Proposition 215 was

about compassion but that took and immediate exit when Proposition 64 came into effect. That’s why we are forming our own veteran coalition to grow, sustain, and maintain our own medicine. I am very fortunate enough to live in a compassionate state, and I tell the VA straight up that I use cannabis as my preferred treatment option. My business partners and friends aren’t so lucky. I go to the VA every blue moon, but my PTSD is actually triggered when I go there sometimes so for the most part I avoid them and treat myself. To all the people out there with so many opinions about the way we should medicate I would challenge them to take the pills the VA gives us and call us in the morning. We are no longer trying to convince you that this is a viable medicine that works for us. We are now saying we actually fought for this country, so if anyone should have the right to choose our own medications it should be us.

Hello world! My name is Samuel Grosso I was in the United

States Marine Corps. I joined because I was always on a team, in a club, or volunteering doing my part to serve my local community as a child and teen. My parents raised my siblings and myself to work hard and take responsibility. My older brother enlisted in the Marines a year before me. My sister joined the Army 5 years later and is still serving. I was also taught that I owed and had to take responsibility for not only my actions, but also

I went in from Aug 2005 to 2009 and I completed two combat tours in Iraq. The first tour was in 2006-2007, and then another in 2008. Operating, out of Fallujah and greater Al Anbar providence operating as far as the Syrian border. I was a combat engineer and built the battlefield in Iraq (roads, bridges, FOB/forward observation post, ECP/entry control point). Also, worked in support of the Iraqi Army and Iraq Police with the Quick Reaction Force. Improving living conditions like power, shelter, and water. Before I joined the military I was not a cannabis consumer. I didn’t need it then because I was very happy and healthy. I identified as an athlete growing up and was not apart of the culture. However, I was around cannabis all the time as a young teen, and didn’t judge my friends who smoked. They usually needed it, because of their stressful home life. I use it now because cannabis is a low-risk alternative for high-risk patients like Veterans to heal physical Traumas and brings spiritual wellness; where opioids only disconnect and destroy families. Treating my pain, insomnia, PTSD, TBI with CBD/THCA in daily micro dosing schedule has provided consistent healing for myself. Treating high-risk patients like veterans with high-risk opioids/ pharmaceuticals has been a formula that is killing way too many and saving way too few.

I personally live in South Orange County, and there are no retail stores are allowed here. Personally, delivery is the safest access any ways. The patient never leaves their home and during my hardest years of isolation I could count on my local delivery service for safe access. Why force patients out of their homes. That’s not smart. For me, I just don’t deal with the VA if I can help it. The VA offers High-risk medicines and demands I drive out of my county for 2 hours or more to be treated. When low-risk alternatives are minutes away from me in my local community. That makes no sense.

To all the naysayers I will inevitably be there for them when they need a community of compassion and support when their pets or loved ones need healing. We are all in this together.

My connection to cannabis was as a patient at first in 2009 during my transition from active duty. As I found safe access and clean medicine, my curiosity and passion grew into compassionate care for my cannabis community. By 2015, I had finished my third research trip with CSUSM Anthropology department to study Intercultural Medicine and Healing in the Andes and Amazon of Ecuador. There, we initiated and launched the first international branch of anthropology at CSUSM. It was while studying there that I developed a love for plant-based medicine. My experience in the Marine Corps and as an anthropologist has taught me the value of cultural literacy, trust and community. It is those experiences that have propelled me into this industry. Since, I have served thousands of cannabis patients in Orange County providing warmth, education, and honest communication about cannabis. EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

PTSD FEATURE

Top 10 Non-Cannabis PTSD Therapies Throughout History Patrick Ian Moore

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has gone by more than a few different monikers in it’s time: War Strain, Shell Shock, Combat Stress Reaction (CSR) and Battle Fatigue. There has also been quite a history of attempts at treating the disorder on behalf of science. During the American Civil War, the most modern treatment available for those suffering from PTSD was at the Government Hospital for the Insane in Washington DC, where they would treat veterans afflicted with “acute mania.” Very little was understood at the time and in asylum records, one frequently listed “cause” of mental breakdown was “masturbation.” In World War One, the psychological distress of soldiers was attributed to concussions caused by the impact of shells; this impact was believed to disrupt the brain and cause “shell shock”. Nearly half of World War II military discharges were said to be the result of combat exhaustion. Back then the military required treating casualties without delay and making sure sufferers expected complete recovery so that they could immediately return to combat after a brief rest. In Vietnam drug use was not uncommon and veterans returned home to a sometimes hostile public. In 1968 the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders included "adjustment reaction to adult life" which was completely insufficient to capture a condition like PTSD. This diagnosis was limited to three examples of trauma: fear linked to military combat, Ganser syndrome (marked by incorrect answers to questions) in prisoners who face a death sentence, and unwanted pregnancy with suicidal thoughts. Modern technology has also changed the experience of war and what it means to be a soldier in a combat zone. Today, a soldier can kill someone on the other side of the world through the use of an ICBM or a drone and modern technology has actually helped to increase the number of people who experience PTSD. Here’s 10 of the scientific and military communities’ Non-Cannabis attempts at treating PTSD throughout history, basically in order from worst to best, depending who you ask. 1. Lobotomies A lobotomy is a surgical procedure in which the nerve pathways in a lobe or lobes of the brain are severed from those in other areas with an instrument resembling an icepick. Lobotomies were used in VA hospitals as the final answer if other treatments were deemed ineffective. The operations sometimes helped with the symptoms that would fall under post-traumatic stress disorder. Unfortunately the operations were reported to leave the patients unable to care for themselves. DOSING FEATURE TEXT HERE TEXT HERE

What It Really Means to Start Low and Slow Kristie Amobi

And there you have it. Most people, even those with medical cannabis cards, don’t think too much about the dose. Upwards of 80-90% of people use cannabis by inhaling it. When you inhale cannabis, it’s next to impossible to regulate the dose. There are some popular vape pens on the market from a company called hmbldt that claim to deliver a very precise, controlled dose. Don’t get me wrong, hmbldt is definitely headed in the right direction (and I love my “Calm” pen), but even with the incredible IP, these pens can’t account for differences in inhalation patterns, etc. The controlled dose is simply the dose that’s delivered in a fixed period of time – 3 seconds in the case of hmbldt pens. And they run upwards of $100 a pen! From my point-of-view, this is where edibles come in. Edibles get a really, really bad wrap. Everyone seems to have an awful edible story. Maureen Dowd even made headlines when she experienced a toxic psychosis from eating a cannabis product. I doubt her cannabis was “bad” – it was a case of consuming something in a ridiculously high dose that wasn’t labeled as such and didn’t contain any warnings.

like Xanax – which has tons of side effects and is highly addictive. Ingesting cannabis in low doses also produces a full body effect. With edibles, the onset is much more gradual and the effects also last much longer. This type of administration is ideal for helping to manage stress and aid sleep. Here’s the trick though – for now, you can’t trust your average dispensary to give you a truly low-dose product. Most of the people running these dispensaries think that a low-dose product is something with approximately 10mg of THC. This is way too much! The ideal product for low dosing is between 2-3 mg of THC but these products are few and far between. I have had a lot of dispensary staffers to tell me to break up a small piece of chocolate into three or four (even smaller) pieces. And, no, they are not kidding! Who wants a sliver of chocolate or to be carrying around a steak knife to try to break things up precisely? For the new cannabis consumer – and those wanting to use cannabis to manage stress and aid sleep – the extra milligrams really do make a difference.

By far, bar none – the best edible product on the market for low dosing (in any category across price, quality, consistency and effect) is Kiva Petra mints. With 2.5mg of THC per mint, Petra offers a reliable way to get the benefits of THC without the disruptive psychoactive effects of THC in higher doses. The effect lasts 4-6 hours, making these mints ideal for managing stress. Take two before bed for a sound Here’s where low-dose edibles come in. night’s sleep. And, don’t mix with alcohol! For starters, when you ingest cannabis, the drug is processed by your liver. This For those of you who are more experienced means edibles have a much slower onset cannabis users, help educate your friends and longer lasting effect. This makes and family about the benefits of low them perfect helping to manage stress dosing to manage stress and aid sleep. And in a controlled way. Much better than remember, although it may seem crazy self-medicating with alcohol or using to you, 2-3mg THC is really the perfect pharmaceutical drugs, especially drugs low dose for someone new to cannabis. I’ve been talking to more and more friends about my new interest in cannabis in low doses to help manage stress, and the reaction of almost everyone has been pretty much the same. Some version of “Hey look I’m open minded… whatever helps people, but it’s not for me. Makes me too tired and lethargic.” To which I respond, “your dose is too high”. And they say, “I don’t know anything about the dose.”

EVENT RECAP

Edibles List Magazine at Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con 2017 Patrick Ian Moore

This year Edibles List Magazine spent our Halloween weekend making history by being the first major cannabis brand to be featured with both a booth and a panel at an actual big city comic book convention. We had our full Edibles List booth that you’d normally see at Cannabis World Congress or the MJ BIZ Con set up to meet, greet and educate a whole new demographic and collection of potential new friends. We were in a prime location not too far away from Tommy Wiseau’s booth promoting “The Room” and the Disaster Artist himself was there signing custom made footballs and underwear. We also got to see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Stan “The Man” Lee in person! Our spot was very lively all weekend long as patients, cosplayers, spectators and curiosity seekers visited our table with wide eyes and plenty of questions. Unfortunately, we had to disappoint quite a few folks and tell them that Federal regulations prevented us from distributing THC products on site, but our allies at Infused Edibles made sure we were well stocked with plenty of CBD gummies and vape cartridges for any attendees who were in need of some easy pain relief from all the walking and standing that comes with this kind of fun. The Edibles Magazine staff got into the full spirit of the occasion and we all wore costumes. Our lovely leader B. Le Grand was costumed as the Sativa Fairy, right down to her wings and roach clip and plush pot leaf magic wand, and Tanganyika was looking fierce as Fire OG rockin the cosplay for her original super hero character “Jayne Green” The Ganja Goddess. Keiko Beatie came dressed up as Mz. Lady Buzz the Ladybug, and I did my “Hunter S. Thompson as a Sith Lord” mash up costume. We did a very educational and informational panel to a highly receptive and incredibly cool audience. It was also so much fun seeing so many creative souls wearing hand crafted and brilliantly constructed costumes! We saw everyone from Mario and Luigi to Boba Fett, and lots of Deadpools, and Harley Quinns. It was enlightening to learn what people knew, didn’t know, and were hoping to find out. I personally love comic books and cannabis and I’ve been a huge fan of both for most of my life so it was particularly meaningful and fulfilling to be an ambassador of the industry in such a welcoming new environment. As regulations change and the world of cannabis moves into a more recreational and generally legalized way of being, we’ll see if we can increase our presence and bring even more healing and loving energy into these mainstream pop culture atmospheres. Just remember that in the future when you see cannabis booths and panels at comic cons, it took a few trend-setting innovators at The Edibles List getting high enough and inspired to get the whole idea started. We’ll see you there next year. Excelsior Generalissimo! Issue No. 40 I Page 32

PRODUCT REVIEWS Absolute Xtracts - Fishing Around With Artist Jeremy Fish Keiko Beatie

Art has come to the cannabis lifestyle with Absolute Extracts presentation of legendary San Francisco-based artist Jeremy Fish and his amazing artistry on a beautiful Vape Cartridge and Battery. The gold hue unit is striking and with the detailed artwork is so appealing. When I took a hit of the Absolute cartridge is when I was even more impressed. The taste, flavor and clean inhalation showed me the quality of oil that was in this Jeremy Fish. I felt like the vape Goddess with this new beautiful infusion apparatus. Absolute Xtracts is a homegrown Northern

California company committed to providing patients with pure, safe, and potent cannabis concentrates. Flower grown on small family farms throughout the Emerald Triangle . When ready, they’re harvested and transported to Santa Rosa for processing. The plant materials are tested for pesticides, molds and bacteria. They use a high pressure carbon dioxide at low temperatures to extract the cannabis oil and no additives. The strain that I had in this cartridge was “Tangie” and the lovely terpene made the richness come through with a even better infusion experience. This oil is the first of a high potency clear cannabis oil. I can't wait to see who the next artist will be featured by Absolute Xtracts and applause how they have brought art to cannabis. Lizzy Tish - The High Tea Cookies Keiko Beatie

I love shortbread cookies. Not too sweet with a buttery crunch is what my cookie choice is. I was at the White Rabbit High Tea and on the table was a lovely Metal Gold box and wrapped in side was a package of shortbread cookies. This flavor was a romantic pairing of Rose Pistachio. At 10 mg of infusion I asked to split it with a new friend, and I had a wonderful bite of light butter crunchy flavorful shortbread artisanal cookie that I had not experienced in

edibles before. The hand crafted care that this cookie had was simply incredible and I felt that the Mad Hatter had taken my my breath away. For the rest of the tea party, I wanted to taste each of the flavors I could find of this baked goodness. Lemon Chamomile and Chocolate Earl Grey Sea Salt flavors I shared with other cookie converts. Foria - Pleasure Spray Siouxsie Q

Enter, Foria, a sensual and pleasure focused personal lubricant that claims to be nothing short of the evolution of pleasure. Unlike other products that profess to unlock the mysteries of female sexuality with a long list of difficult to pronounce ingredients, Foria

keeps it simple with a short list of ingredients that sound as familiar as old friends: cannabis, coconut oil, peppermint, and cacao are the primary components of this love potion. The first person to try the product in my household was my girlfriend. She whined that her bits were sore, and I mentioned there was a sample spray bottle of Foria on the table she could try out, to see if it helped at all. Cannabis, of course, is an ancient medicine used not only for it psychoactive and aphrodisiac qualities, but it is also known of its healing analgesic qualities as well. Within moments, my girlfriend was curled up on the couch, cooing that she smelled like a thin mint. I did some “scientific” investigating and discovered the taste was on point as well. The mint kept her tingling, and the coconut oil and cannabis combination kept the fun going long into the afternoon, with no hissy fit aftermath from my princess parts -- Foria is safe even for the most sensitive of players.

I’m a princess about lube. Seriously. I’m the girl who brings her own pump bottle to sleepovers, that invariably explodes all over my overnight bag, causing heartache for toothbrushes and contact lenses alike. Like me, my vagina is high maintenance and dramatic, the tiniest pinch of unwelcome product or uncomfortable fabric will send her off into a tizzy for days. Over the years, I’ve learned to avoid most products that claim they’ll show her a good time.

Purity Palm Joint - Pre-Rolled Palm Leaf Blunt Patrick Ian Moore

The Purity Palm Pre Rolled Joint was a smokeable treat that was picked up for us by friends Tangy and Vanessa who attended The New West Summit in the Bay Area last month. Lately the blunt wraps we’ve always been partial to seem to be taking a toll on my throat

and that’s no good. King Palm palm leaf blunt wraps are a favorite alternative of mine and they’re entirely tobacco free, so it does my heart (and throat) good to see someone is using them to make such a fine, and nicotine free, product. Slow burning and delicious, these pure pre rolls are a full gram of top shelf, well rolled delights best shared with friends.

Healthy High - Peanut Butter Pretzel Crunch Bar

Edibles Magazine Issue 40

Jack Paradise

36

The Healthy High Peanut Butter Pretzel Crunch Bar is an incredibly delicious and perfectly balanced mix of crunchy and chewy goodness. Salted pretzels and peanuts mixed over crisped quinoa with sweet and salty peanut butter plus a rich layer of organic dark chocolate to seal the deal. Healthy High uses coconut oil in their full-plant extraction process to infuse potent medicine into their products in addition to healthy, nutritious fats with the incredible list of health benefits that coconut oil has become so famous for. Coconut oil’s saturated fat is made up mostly of medium-chain triglycerides, or MCTs. The medium-chain triglycerides in coconut oil can increase how many calories you burn. The bar might seem like granola at first but it’s actually Crisped Quinoa (pronounced KEEN-wah), which is a 7,000-year-old plant that originated in the mountainous regions of South America. While quinoa is commonly known as an “ancient grain,” it is technically not a grain or cereal grain, but a seed, and does not contain gluten. The Healthy High Crunch Bar is made using

a completely tasteless Hybrid strain THC Distillate and is available in 100MG and 200MG THC dosings. The effect of this edible is a feeling of the nice and slow creeper variety that keeps coming along nice and steadily over the course of a few hours. The 200MG size bar lasted a total of around five hours for me and never got too intense or overwhelming and the taste was outstanding. This healthy treat is vegan and if it weren’t for the organic pretzel parts it would be gluten free too. I can’t recommend Healthy High enough, and the great natural taste, medicinal effects and health benefits make it an absolute favorite of mine. We had Healthy High on The Edibles Show on Z420.TV recently and were munching on the full line of bars throughout the program. Tangy and I got super medicated on the air and the fun kept going on for a few hours after the show had ended. I also ate one before a Swedish style massage at Wi Spa in Koreatown and it was a perfect combination. Nutritious, wholesome, real ingredients: THC Distillate, Crisped Rice, Crisped Quinoa, Natural Peanuts Butter, Peanuts, Pretzels, Coconut Oil, Brown Rice Syrup, Dried Cane Syrup, Dark Chocolate (Cocoa Butter, Dried Cane Syrup, Cocoa), Pure Vanilla, Sea Salt.

Strictly Edibles with Margaret Cho & Buck Angel Siouxsie Q

As I drove down Laurel Canyon Boulevard in my blue Mini Cooper nibbling on a 100 mg Key Lime pie donut from Strictly Edibles, the Bay Area based company known for its great tasting, high potency products, I pinched myself, just to make sure I was living real life. The edible wasn’t even close to kicking in yet, but the excitement bubbling up in my throat was undeniable as a barreled my way into the heart of Hollywood, where transgender sex educator superstar turned cannabis entrepreneur, Buck Angel, was waiting to escort me as his date to Margaret Cho’s Los Angeles engagement of her Fresh of the Bloat tour. As a young queer kid with big dreams, I had idolized both Buck and Margaret. They embody the fighting spirit of the LGBTQ movement by proudly defying preconceived notions about how a person’s gender and sexuality can and should be expressed. Now, I was preparing to spend the evening in the same room as both of these modern day icons—hopefully not way too high on a key lime pie flavored weed donut.

As the curtain rose and the house lights flickered on, I was endlessly relieved to find I was still able to give Margaret Cho the standing ovation she deserved. I had survived my duel with the donut and my head even felt clear enough to drive Mr. Angel home. Achievement unlocked. Siouxsie Q: 1 Key Lime Pie Donut: 0

Edibles Magazine Issue 40

I told the squealing fangirl inside me to cool it, as I met

Buck outside the lobby. We took a few puffs from his Pride Cannabis vape pen, which helped calm my nerves, and headed in to sit down. The lights dimmed, and the giggles started flowing. Cannabis and comedy are one of life’s winning combinations—like peanut butter and jelly. As the 100 mg began to work its magic, I had to remind myself not to melt into my seat, and that while Buck was very nice to invite me to be his date for the evening, I probably did not have an open invitation to snuggle into his leather jacket for the duration for the performance. I was feeling giddy, giggly, and fine, until Margaret started a monologue about her recent dance with sobriety, illustrated by an anecdote about an unfortunate duel with a batch of THC infused edibles. The feeling of being too high from eating weed is a feeling I only wish on my ex-husband, and as Margaret regaled the audience with the horrors of her experience, I said a tiny prayer to the gods of weed, (as well as the nice folks over at Strictly Edibles) that I would not suffer the same fate that night as I tried to act cool in front of my offbeat teen idols.

VETERAN NEWS

The American Legion's Resolution for Medical Cannabis Research

TEXT HERE

Tommy Knowledge

The American Legion adopted a resolution urging the federal government to allow Department of Veterans Affairs doctors to discuss and recommend medical cannabis in the states where it's currently legal, adding to the group's efforts to get cannabis in the hands of the veterans it could help the most. The resolution, passed at the group's national convention in Reno, Nevada, was authored by American Legion member Rob Ryan of Ohio. According to statistics provided by the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Ohio has the fourth highest rate of drug overdose deaths in the nation, just behind West Virginia, New Hampshire and Kentucky. It's also presently one of the 29 US states that permit some form of legal medicinal cannabis use. Ryan said he's heard from veterans multiple times who use cannabis as an alternative to opiates prescribed by the VA for pain and PTSD. Doctor Sue Sisley, a psychiatrist studying the effects of medical cannabis on veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, called it a "game changer." Dr. Sisley is now facilitating an FDA-Approved Marijuana/PTSD research study taking place at the Scottsdale Research Institute in Arizona. In September of this year, American Legion National Commander Denise Rohan submitted a letter to Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin urging the secretary and his department to support the study. For more than a year now, The American Legion has called on the federal government to support and enable scientific research to clinically confirm the medicinal value of cannabis. Under the current rules, Department of Veterans Affairs doctors can’t even legally discuss cannabis as a treatment option with patients. However, medical marijuana is gaining a growing support base in the veterans health community, where some researchers hold hopes that the plant might prove more effective than traditional pharmaceuticals in controlling Post Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms and reducing the number of returning veteran suicides. Federal regulators classify cannabis as a "Schedule 1" drug, a category that includes heroin and LSD, stating that it has a “high potential for abuse and offers no acceptable medicinal properties. Meaning that with very few exceptions, cannabis cannot be studied for medical or therapeutic purposes.

The American Legion is the largest wartime veterans service organization with 2.2 million members in more than 13,000 posts in communities across America. The Legion, established by an act of Congress in 1919, was instrumental in getting the original GI Bill through Congress and the creation of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Edibles Magazine Issue 40

A new survey just conducted by the American Legion shows strong support within the military veteran community for medicinal cannabis legalization and research. The American Legion has remained a strong advocate for rescheduling cannabis under the Controlled Substances Act to permit research into the medicinal benefits for treating veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chronic pain, depression, and suicidal tendencies, as well as helping with opiate addiction and alcoholism. 81 percent of the veterans surveyed by The Legion support the federal legalization of cannabis to treat a mental or physical condition and 83 percent of caregivers surveyed supporting federally-legal cannabis as treatment for vets. The survey also reported that one in five veterans are currently using cannabis to alleviate a medical or physical condition and the majority of cannabis-using veterans taking part in the survey were over the age of 60.

White Rabbit High Tea Party Alice Loves Being In Wonderland!

TEXT HERE

Keiko Beatie

What could be more inviting than to go back in time and experience the adventure of Lewis E. Carroll's experience of Alice In Wonderland. I went head first down the rabbit hole as I felt like I knew no one and had no inkling of what I was to empiricism at the “White Rabbit High Tea” curated by the lovely Jessica Cole event coordinator. Her goal was to take us to the polite days of sharing tea, conversation and the adventure of savior-faire and infused cannabis worldliness. This was unlike any other cannabis party or event I had ever had the pleasure to be invited to. I came to the lovely outdoor space in the midst of Hollywood, California and the doors were open to a Mad Tea Party! Mad not as, “angry”, but Mad with fun, laughter and joyful celebration! Guests were dressed with white gloves, hats, elegant attire and smiles galore. They felt the inviting excitement as a long table filled with china tea cups, colorful flowers and an array of fine delicate accessories focused on the Mad Hatter Tea Party in fun urbanity . As the first time I pickup my proper cup of tea my pinky finger stood up and saluted the situation. I had come into the room where the delectable delights had “Eat Me” with Chef extraordinaire Holden Jager and a tray of special un-infused savory bites were being presented. Jessica Cole had many other edible, smokable items in micro dosed portions to create our infused tea party. Chef Holden had even prepared with love from his own garden a jar of organic honey filled with top flower buds drenched in this golden liquid for over 9 months. Can you imagine flavoring your cup of tea with a spoon full of “Holden Honey”? Or a few drizzles of “Bud Honey”on your biscuit like scones. Each tray of horderves that came out, I sat up like an eager puppy wagging my tail to sniff the air and pant with anticipation. Chef Holden is an artist of culinary talent and I know that White Rabbit High Tea had me playing croquet with a Pink Flamingo! Alice had nothing on me as this was a seasoning of sophistication and frivolity at its finest. The intimacy that was being created along with the guest who were being treated like, Red Hearted Kings and Queens did transport us for a few brief hours of wonderland. I couldn't help to have the smile of a Cheshire Cat on my face for the rest of my White Rabbit High Tea experience. Do you have something in your wardrobe of whimsy, white gloves, fun hat, pocket watch and crinkling petticoats? But you'll have the option as there is a costume box available for you to dig through to drape yourself in finery for just a few hours out of your mundane cannabis life. At least once you've immersed yourself into this tea party, you may feel that your life is a bit mundane as compared to your time at “White Rabbit High Tea! Not to fret as a charming Gift Bag accompanied me home and I had sweet dreams of going head first down the rabbit hole once again checking out my new array of some of the finest new cannabis products. The next White Rabbit High Tea will be held on December 2nd, and February 17th, 2018. If you are interested in attending or learning more about white rabbit high tea inquire at hello@whiterabbithightea.com and come dive head first down the rabbit hole with me! Issue No. 40 I Page 53

The New West Summit Re-Cap and After Party Adventures Darcy Thompson

One of the great things about the Bay Area is that it is a hub for technology. Oakland reaps the benefits of its proximity to the Silicon Valley. The New West Summit is a conference specifically based around technology, business and media. I know business conferences are boring right! Well, it’s just not so. The first two days are industry only and not open to the public and the first day of any conference is always best. Because this is the perfect opportunity for investors now rushing into the cannabis sector to check out and interact with cannabrands, the show became a showcase for companies, many locally based, to show off their goods and services and make business-to-business contacts.

Edibles Magazine Issue 40

Starting at the crack of dawn I was at the Edibles List Magazine booth engaging with potential edible and cannabis vendors, schmoozing would be financial backers, and networking with other industry leaders and professionals. At the end of Saturday I was pretty burnt out, but Stephen from Purity Medicinals had invited Ed Rosenthal, me in tow, to dab some of his homegrown homemade medicine.

54

When we made it to his room, I was relieved to see Ellen Holland the editor of Cannabis Now, a friendly face. It’s been a joy watching her rise to the top of the food chain, now the HBIC, Ellen is fun, fierce, artistic, interesting and a true joy to hang out with. Sitting next to her was a fabulously dressed man, I’d soon find out was Harry Resin. With a studded jacket and silver metallic seventies boots, he sat with his tiny and adorable wedding cake Hitman rig, not more than a few short inches, with a crystal quartz nail. His stash had at least twenty varieties and we all took turns, even Jane Klein, Ed’s wife, who normally only uses edibles took a small rip. When it was finally my turn I picked some bho crumble called Tits. I had to try it and

it did not disappoint. Fifty percent of my stress from the day melted away. We didn’t stay long because it was time to eat and our final destination after some needed rest and dinner was the vendor after party for the conference. To tell you the truth, if it weren’t for the good company my anxiety may have gotten the best of me, but I pushed through. Jane had bought a few tickets for the Fire Relief raffle, the organization ended up making $12,000 to help victims of the Sonoma County fires still happening today. They were leaving and it was up to me to make sure I was there when they picked the ticket for the prize everyone wanted, a pound of cannabis. I danced and ran into a cute couple I met at the clock tower party in SF I previously wrote about, they own a delivery service in San Francisco. It really is a small world and so was the party but it was fun. In the far corner Harry Resin had set up the dab rig again. In the triangular 21st floor of the Marriott we had the luxury to sample more dabs while looking out the floor to ceiling windows. From that vantage you could see most of the Oakland hills, the Tribune building, the iconic container cranes of the port, the bay bridge, and the night skyline of San Francisco. My feet were telling me it was getting close to the end of the night. I went to the front and the raffle wasn’t anywhere near happening. I went back and sat next to Harry and he graciously gave me one final, long, deep, and luxurious dab. The variety was 8 THC mixed with THC from Guild. Back though the party and out the door within the next five minutes, I was on my way home. Another fun day in the cannabis world, more strains tried, more new friends. That’s your stoner story for this issue. Stay tuned to hear about the differences between attending the New West Conference and the MJ Biz Con next month in Las Vegas.

What Does an Eighth Weigh Anyway?

Patrick Ian Moore

Edibles Magazine Issue 40

What does an eighth of cannabis actually weigh? That’s easy: 3.5 grams, right? Well, let’s take a quick peek into the crazy world of weights, measures, and math. It’s a little more confusing than you might think. There are 453.592 grams in a pound. At 3.5 grams per eighth of an ounce and 16 ounces per pound, that adds up to 448 grams. So where’s the other almost 6 grams go? Stems. Seeds, and samples? Sometimes maybe, but certainly not always. Marijuana arithmetic is peculiar and uses strange quantities not seen in many other products. Like Zac Efron’s character Teddy says in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, “I suck at math. I’m good at weed.” So what’s the explanation? It’s complicated, so I spoke with professional mathematician and comedian George Pete Caleodis and he filled me in on some of the historical details.

60

Let’s start with the fact that one Pound is equal to 7000 Grains. The pound is a unit of mass in imperial and US customary systems. “Grain” is a unit of mass and based on the average mass of a seed of a cereal, barley or wheat. The avoirdupois pound, also known as the wool pound, first came into general use in 1300 AD. It was initially equal to 6992 grains and the pound was divided into 16 ounces. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth, the avoirdupois pound was redefined as 7000 grains. Since then, the grain has often been an integral part of the avoirdupois system.

is the founding father of the metric system. He proposed a decimal system of measurement in 1670. Mouton based it on the length of one minute of arc of a great circle of the Earth, or 1852 meters (a nautical mile). However, the metric system wasn’t officially adopted by the French government until 1795. A scientific conference was held in 1798 with representatives from the Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Spain, and Italy to validate the metric system’s foundation. Most countries use the Metric System, which uses measuring units such as meters and grams and adds prefixes like kilo, milli and centi to count orders of magnitude. In the United States, we use the older Imperial system, where things are measured in feet, inches and pounds. Before the metric system of measurement came into existence, there were a variety of different systems being used, which caused a lot of difficulty in conversion, interfering in international trade and commerce. The metric system is far simpler and seems more efficient than the imperial system of measurement.

Clearly part of the confusion comes from dividing an imperial measurement, the ounce or even pound, into metric units (grams). It’s a problem unique to the United States as well as to the world of cannabis - and those two cultures are pretty set in their ways. No clear solution seems to be on the horizon but it certainly begs the question: What Historians agree that Gabriel Mouton, does your 8th of weed really weigh? Is the vicar of St. Paul’s Church in France, it 54.6875 grains? We may never know. EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

Yes, it is actually possible large amounts of raw cannabinoids without to process leftover cannabis leaves and or buds experiencing a stony effect. into a cannabinoid-rich juice that you can Q. It is important to note that since it is not being decarboxylated it will not get you “high”. This can be a major benefit for patients who are young, old, or in a weakened condition, and need THC, but not the psychoactive effect. Q. How is it done? A. The most important thing to note about juicing is that you receive drastically better results when starting with a freshly cut cannabis plant. A blender or juicer are traditional processing tools. While you can use a traditional juicer it will oxidize the plant material too quickly, so we advise you use a hand press. Either way, however, the fresher the better! Your goal is to remove as many of the oils and cannabinoids inside of the plant. Fresher, also “not cured” means more water in the plant and more juice. Using material after it has been cured can be extremely inefficient.

Although the absorption of cannabinoids into the body has been shown to have an impact on cancer and other medical ailments, until more studies have been conducted, there is not enough scientific evidence to support the claim that juicing helps fight cancer. Q. Does the body respond to THC from juicing differently than THC from Edibles? The biggest factor that can change how your body responds is whether the THC has been decarboxylated or not. When cannabis is heated to a specific temperature, the THC is activated and produces a psychoactive effect when ingested. This transition is known as decarboxylation.

The best example to give would be Cannabis butter. When making Cannabis butter, the plant material goes through a heating process that turns THC-a into THC. The difference being that THC-a does not Please make sure the cannabis plant was have the psychoactive impact of THC. organically grown without pesticides, these Q. The citizen-sponsored initiative prohibits growing cannabis in residential zones, authorizes and regulates medical marijuana dispensaries, and limits commercial cultivation sites to industrial and manufacturing zones with a permit issued by the city. Opponents said the measure doesn’t do enough to protect the community, while the supporters said Measure U will provide oversight and transparency. La Mesa rejected a similar ballot measure in 2012, and banned the cultivation and manufacturing of medical marijuana, and the operation of dispensaries.
