LETTER FROM THETEXT EDITOR HERE TEXT HERE Greetings my friends, Summer is now in full swing, and in the immortal words of the Fresh Prince himself: “Summer, summer, summertime -- Time to sit back and unwind.” And unwind we shall.. Hopefully. Whatever the case may be, welcome to our Hip-Hop issue featuring Ta Smallz and the Carter. Hip Hop and cannabis have always gone together well, and as the plant becomes more and more legal all over the united states, there are ever-growing opportunities for artists to merge with brands, growers, distributors, manufacturers and lifestyle products. I remember smoking Oklahoma dirt-weed and getting crazy high in the 9th grade before watching New Jack City in the theater and feeling like my worldview had expanded immensely. Ice-T immediately seemed like a brilliant actor and Judd Nelson was there as his partner -- the guy who brought weed to detention in the Breakfast Club.. It was all coming together in a beautiful way. Years later I was in a movie with Judd Nelson, and this time I was the one playing the police! Ha. Meta. We spent a day on set with Ta Smallz and his crew over the 420 Holiday weekend in Hollywood as they filmed the music video for their new cannabis anthem, “The 420 Roll Up." We were joined by Michael Vegas who was there getting some great pictures, and plenty of product that was donated by PieceMaker silicone pipes and bongs, Infused Edibles and the Mystery Baking Co. We smoked blunts rolled with flower from Reefer City Farms all day long and shot some eye catching photos and the most shocking and dramatic interview we’ve ever filmed. The story of Ta Smallz’ mother’s murder and the ensuing investigation that follows is definitely a harrowing read and it’s plain to see why someone would want to treat their subsequent PTSD in the safest and most effective way possible. He and his family have their own strain, as well as a line of vapes and edibles coming out soon.

Speaking of up-and-coming rap stars, young Turkish artist Ezhel has been arrested by a special task force in Istanbul for “promoting drug use” by rapping about cannabis in his songs. As we’ve mentioned in previous issues, Turkey has some of the harshest drug laws in the world, so facing 10 years in a Turkish prison when you’re supposed to be on the road touring with Wiz Khalifa has got to seem like one of the most unjust nightmares imaginable. Check out the Issue No. 46 I Page 10

Our list this month is the 7 most medicated Songs about Cannabis and we’ve also got a Hip-Hop themed Cannabis Crossword Puzzle for you. Snap a pic of the crossword when you work it and post it on instagram with a tag to us @edibleslistmagazine with the hashtag #CannaCrossword and we’ll send you a special prize. By the way, I only just now started realizing how much they talk about CBD on the show “Ballers” on HBO. Very cool. The Canna Mexico Summit was enlightening and fun. We met a lot of great people and got a look at what’s going on with cannabis, growing, and legalization in Mexico. Also -we visited the ancient Mexican pyramid city of Teotihuacan, the most fascinating place ever. There’s a write up about it in this issue, as well as the recipes and reviews, and a special Blazed Blerd Groovy Movie Review of Pacific Rim 2 from DJ Reid 420. There’s also a lot happening politically right now and some of it’s covered here. The STATES ACT in the US, and Bill C-45 in Canada, all the while this North Korea stuff is going on.. Things are happening and changing everywhere, all the time. There’s so much more coming throughout the summer, glad you’re here, stay with us. And remember like Nate Dogg said on Dr. Dre’s song The Next Episode: “Smoke weed everyday!” As always, smile at your budtender, tip your delivery driver, and know your dose. “Truth is not obliged to stick to possibilities.”

WORLD NEWS TEXT HERE Thailand to Secure Medicinal Cannabis with Blockchain Paul Pot
Thailand seeks to be a leader in the cannabis industry in Asia. They recently took a big step forward with the announcement that the country's industry will use blockchain technology to create a secure supply chain for medical marijuana and also for the poppy straw material used in pharmaceutical opioid production.
a recent report from Cannabis.net. Rachel Zedek, a spokesperson for Peterson Projects and Solutions in Thailand described blockchain as "a new tool to enhance supply chain management", which will be critical to growing both the medical marijuana and poppy industries in Thailand, according to a recent report in SecuringIndustry. com. Reducing the amount of counterfeit drugs is a major concern for these emerging industries. "We will be working together to help create new opportunities and solve some pretty serious challenges", Zedek also reported. She went on to say that the use of blockchain will apply this better technology to create new efficiencies and opportunities that will include small farmers, communities and low income consumers.
Blockchain is a shared immutable ledger for recording the history of transactions. The concept has been most publicly associated with the BitCoin system but has already been used for tracking pharmaceuticals. For that reason it became a natural answer for cannabis. It can likewise be applied to tracking the movement of any type of goods through a supply chain with every transaction verified along the way. Most importantly the goal is to make it easy to track the goods and avoid the entry of fake supplies, stolen merchandise and black Raja Sharif, chief executive for FarmaTrust says market goods from infiltrating the system. this partnership is an exciting development. "For us this is the next step in helping to create a fully transparent drug chain. By partnering with Peterson, we will harness their expertise in Asia to create safe, transparent and high-quality supply chains to eliminate counterfeit drugs. The ultimate goal is to save lives using blockchain technology and to help Peterson and their supply partners meet their legal requirements and coordinate efficiently."
Edibles Magazine Issue 46
A deal has been struck between British blockchain company, FarmaTrust and supply chain consultants Peterson Projects and Solutions Asia with the goal of creating new jobs, industry investment and expansion within Thailand. This comes in the wake of recent movement to legalize cannabis in the Asian nation. Their parliament is moving a medical cannabis bill through that system and it is expected to pass.
12
It would legalize medical cannabis for patients with a valid prescription from their doctor. They cannot grow pot but can purchase it over the counter. This will make Thailand a leader in the use of medical cannabis in Asia. This is a country that has been known in the past for particularly draconian laws and harsh penalties for drug possession. "They seem to be serious about medical marijuana", according to
As Thailand moves forward they join a growing list of countries around the globe and states within America that are legalizing medical marijuana. The global market is now pegged at over $56 billion and growing. The concept has taken hold among Thai legislators, state officials, some of the country's health experts and the National Farmers Council which recently declared their intention of making the country a medical marijuana hub for the Asian region. The now pot-feisty nation has also announced government approval for a fiveyear test program to grow hemp commercially for medical usage. For all the countries and states legalizing medical cannabis but not yet making the leap to recreational use, they must deal with the problems of keeping the supply chain safe, stopping illicit black market goods but still create industry growth. Issues like fake goods, mislabeled cannabis oil, and black market competition will continue to plague the industry as it expands. Partnerships like this one in Thailand is working on the solutions.

You may know his songs featuring members of Bone Thugs n’ Harmony, or seen him model for Tommy Hilfiger or Ed Hardy, or recognize him as a backup dancer for New Kids on the Block and Marky Mark. But Ta Smallz’ life story has a tragic beginning, one that led him to success fulfilling the family band dream, and put him on a mission of positivity. Ta Smallz’ family moved from Ohio to California when we was 5 years old. His parents had a rock band called Koyna, and moved to the Golden State to pursue their music careers. Things got difficult in his parent’s relationship and as many parents do, his separated. In December 1983, less than three weeks before the happiest time of year for most families, Ta Smallz awoke to find his mother missing. What was left in her place was her bloody bedroom, a vicious crime scene where Marsha Carter was brutally murdered.

month old that was underneath the bed that we didn’t know. When the police came, they went into the house, it was ransacked, blood everywhere. They looked under the bed, and my little brother was there covered in blood. My mother’s body was missing for two weeks. It was Christmas at that time, it was December 6, 1983. Two days before Christmas, they said they found my mother’s body and we had to go identify her. We had to drive to Sacramento. They drove her body two hours away, from the Bay to Sacramento. We found her in the trunk of the car. We didn't get to go to the funeral unfortunately (it was in Ohio). They shipped her body back to California.” “For a lot of reasons, my mom’s mom and my father had some differences, so we didn’t get to go [to the funeral]. So we had to go see our mother, because the psychiatrist said it was best to go see my mother dead than us wonder… This is what they said, I’m a child, I didn’t know. A year later, we were just really having some hard times. My father was taking care of us. He was going through a depression because he broke up with my mom. We were in East Oakland and we were really struggling, like we were starving. Homeless. My grandparents, said ‘Get em back here, Papa’ (that’s what they called my father). ‘Get em back here, you guys can’t make it out there.’”
Ta Smallz recalls the night his mother was murdered,“He came into our house while we were sleeping, locked us in our rooms, stabbed my mother 25 times in the face, cut off her fingers, put a hole in her chest. My 3 brothers, I had a brother 9 years, 7 years old, and 11 months old, we woke up to this. We just saw blood and fingerprints all over the place, and blood all over the walls. I didn’t know what it was. My mom wasn’t there, so me and my brothers sat around, then went into the bedroom. I didn’t know that blood congealed. It looked like jelly. I’m only 11 years old, and so I touched it and put it in my mouth. [I’m like] That’s blood. We gotta get out of here.” “I was always an entertainer and wanted to fulfill my mother and “So I ran across the street to a neighbor's house to call father’s dream. So when I moved back the police. universe responded 6 years later. Calvin Featherson, who was an original witness in the case, came forward in late 2016 offering his testimony to help convict Marsha Carter’s murderer, Sherill Smothers. According to Ta Smallz, he came down with cancer and a case of a guilty conscience prompted him to come clean to authorities.

I said, ‘Well, I’m gunna find out who did it.’” He started calling the Richmond police. “I told them I wanted all the information. I want anything you can find out about my mother. They were like, ‘We can’t just give you that information.’” “I replied, ‘Well, I’m just gunna do it myself.’ I got with Cash Money, and 50 Cent, Juelz Santana, and all my star friends. We used sound power, basically saying, Can ya’ll help us find out? We did a DVD. I actually drove my tour bus up to the place where my mother was killed, and just knocked on the door. I’m like, ‘My mother got killed here, and I wanna know, can I come in here?’” “He [the new owner of the house] said, ‘I knew you were gunna come,’ and he starts crying. ‘I knew you were going to come back one day. I remember you.’”
“The people who killed my mom were calling us and threatening us, like screaming, ‘I’m gunna kill “So I quit my album, Have it My Way. I stopped you!’ I’d answer the phone, and my mom would be the album. I said, you know what, I’m gunna going crazy. My mom was trying to move. We were EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com
moving away. But she didn’t move fast enough. So anyway, I came to the door, he’s like, ‘I bought the house when you were a little kid. I bought it two months after it happened, cause it went down low, no one would buy it.’” “He invited us in, walked us around the house. He said, ‘That’s the knife marks in the floor where your mom was.’ Then pointed at the back door and starts shaking and says, ‘For 6 months your mom’s blood was on the back door, and I just left it there. I just didn’t even want to believe that’s what it was.’” “We went through a lot. I was filming this for my DVD. When I packaged my album, I made a song called Life, featuring Lazy Bone and Bizzy Bone. Shout out to Lazy Bone and Bizzy Bone! We started a record label together. The song Life was about my mother. It really blew up over the internet. I just asked the world, ‘If you have any ideas, or if you can pray for me in anyway, call my number, email me.’ It took 2-3 years, then someone called. And then they said they had a DNA hit. I started the Who Killed My Momma Movement.” Murder Cold Case Solved 33 Years Later Ta Smallz album and songs about his mother’s murder made waves in the universe, and the
Sherill Smothers was an original person of interest, someone who Marsha Carter dated and had broken up with. Ta Smallz recalls his mother telling him in his dreams the identity of his killer, but without hard evidence it couldn’t be proven to authorities. After Featherson came forward, a Richmond police cold case detective took a second look at the case and was able to successfully link Sherill Smothers to the crime scene through blood DNA evidence. Smothers was originally questioned by police about Marsha’s murder in 1983. He said he had an alibi which was a friend he'd gone out for ice cream with. The friend, who Featherson said Smothers recruited, backed up the alibi, and because of that alibi the investigation went cold for 33 years. Featherson testified under oath, that he was planning to tell police about Smothers' scheme before Marsha was killed, but he was worried they wouldn't believe him. He said his plan was to get the $500, then tell police, and show them money as evidence. He said he didn't hear

So we were background dancing for Mark [Whalberg], then we secured a deal with Island Records, in 1993 as little kids. It was me and my brothers, a group called School Boyz. Then we eventually called ourselves Life, which I ended up keeping the name and turning it into my label. We ended up getting that deal in 1993, and that didn’t work out. So I started a home record label. In 1999, I signed and I put out some albums and singles, and then my father died. He died from kidney failure, on dialysis. When he died, there was still a lot of tension with my mom’s mom and my father. I said I’m moving out here [California], to start my record label. I had an album called Have it My Way. In 1983, Calvin Featherson, an acquaintance of Smothers, came forward with his story as police searched for Marsha’s whereabouts. Featherson told police that weeks earlier, Smothers had offered him $500 to help him kill Marsha. He said Smothers told him he wanted to break into Carter's home, kill her and dump her body in a Sacramento hotel parking lot. He said Smothers showed him a map of Sacramento, and pointed to a hotel parking lot where he wanted to dump her once murdered. Police searched that parking lot and that’s where they found her body stuffed in the trunk of her car.

CannaMexico World Summit Event Recap Patrick Ian Moore
The CannaMexico World Summit was held May 3031 at Centro Fox in Leon, Mexico, and the Edibles News Team was there. Former Mexican President Vicente Fox organized the event, the first of its kind in Latin America. We met and were introduced to some amazing new friends at the summit, like the photographers from “La Dosis” (The Dosage) - one of Mexico’s premiere cannabis themed newspapers that also covers all “News from the Psychoactive Community”. Mota Comix were on display at the Lagos Growers booth, and they were the ones who finally hooked us up with some nice strains of Mexican cannabis, like Acapulco Gold (classic Mexican sativa hybrid) grown using outdoor, organic hydroponic planting techniques -- innovative ways of using limited resources to grow some very nice buds. Everyone we met was friendly, curious, and very open to information and education. It was enlightening to actually see what’s happening outside of the USA and how different it is, even in a country that borders California. Medical cannabis is currently legal in Mexico, however, THC content is limited to 1%. To put that in perspective, in case you don’t know: it’s not unusual in California for top shelf cannabis to be between 25-30% THC. Guanajuato is where we were staying for the conference and it’s a beautiful city, known as the most romantic and colorful in all of the country. Some familiar (American) faces were there too, - we even saw Root Sciences giving away copies of Edibles Magazine, the issue featuring them on the cover. CBD infused and flavored vitamin water seemed to be the most popular product on the floor, but of course it was fairly hot and everyone loves free water. It was definitely fun to smoke and medicate with new international friends and it confirmed my suspicion that speaking the mutual language of cannabis would lead to some nice connections - and it did. We’re excited to go back and see what’s next for our neighbors to the south. The STATES Act May Solve Some of the Industry's Biggest Problems Paul Pot
In the Senate, Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) who battled Trump over justice nominations to get attention to this issue, have introduced the "Strengthening The 10th Amendment Through Entrusting States or (STATES) Act." It would protect the states that have established their own policies for cannabis in their state from federal intervention and prosecution, which has been favored by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Trump has promised to sign the legislation when it comes to his desk, although this puts him at odds with his attorney general. Over in the House a companion bill was introduced by Rep. David Joyce (R-OH) and long-time pot supporter Earl Blumenauer (DOR). According to the bill's co-sponsors, the STATES Act would protect states from federal attack by creating an exemption to the US Controlled Substances Act which prohibits pot and lists it as a schedule one drug along with heroin and LSD. It would also remove industrial hemp from the list completely. That would open the door to major expansion in that field. Another important provision is the establishment of standard banking practices which would eliminate one of the industry's biggest headaches. What to do with all that cash if you can't just put it in a bank? That would be one major problem solved. There would also be some other common sense guardrails like a minimum age of 18 to work in the industry and 21 to purchase any of the goods unless you have a doctor's prescription. Some less defined issues are also prohibited like "unsafe working conditions."
Senator Warren issued a statement saying in part: "Outdated federal marijuana laws have perpetuated our broken criminal justice system, created barriers to research and hindered economic development." She further stated, "The federal government needs to get out of the business of outlawing marijuana." She later tweeted that one provision would "help decrease the public safety risk that arises from having an all-cash business." Senator Gardner also commented that the STATES Act would fix "these problems once and for all by taking a state's rights approach to the legal marijuana question." Rep. Blumenauer also commented: "For too long the senseless prohibition of marijuana has devastated our communities, disproportionately impacting poor Americans and communities of color. Not to mention it's also wasted resources and stifled medical research." The cannabis industry has also been quick to weigh in on this proposed legislation. Justin Strekel, Policy Director at NORML, which helped develop the bill, noting the participation of both political parties said,"With the introduction of the STATES Act the movement to end the federal government's failed policy of cannabis criminalization has truly become a bipartisan effort." Jolene Forman, a staff attorney at the Drug Policy Alliance, which also helped with the bill had a strong summary statement saying, "The STATES Act represents a landmark moment in the movement to end the decades long war on marijuana. It creates a workable framework for approaching the future of marijuana policy."

and more to experience California’s new cannabis legalization. I think the real question is, how much weed may potentially be smuggled in those checked bags?
hile they don’t mention cannabis in any of their press releases, Thursday June 7, 2018, United Airlines launched nonstop service between Los Angeles International Airport and Humboldt County Airport. The service is a one flight a day operation in each direction, utilizing a 50-seat CRJ regional jet, otherwise informally known as a puddle-jumper, operated by Skywest Airlines. The last time a commercial airliner landed at Humboldt airport was in 2011. The flight heading to Humboldt departs LAX at 7:52am, and arrives at 9:54am.

The flight heading to LAX departs Humboldt at 10:40am and arrives at LAX at 12:27pm.

It is also important to note that air space is federally regulated, so while you’re not technically allowed to bring cannabis on planes with you, if you were stopped in an airport, the local law enforcement will handle the situation, and their jurisdiction is to abide by the state laws. So if you’re flying from one airport in California to another, the likelihood of getting your cannabis taken away from you is very low as long as you are in possession of the state adult-use limits, (8 grams of concentrate and/or 28.5 grams of dried flower).
Prior to this new flight route, many would charter private jets, book two flights to get there or make a strenuous drive from another major Northern California airport.
It can also be argued that you are allowed to bring 6 months worth of your medicine if you can prove you are a true medical patient with a new county medical card, but that’s just a harder one to prove when flying.
Our analysts predict a huge boom in cannabis tourism as this new direct path will allow for investors, visitors, canna travel
How long until we get an airline that serves edibles? We’d love to be that inflight magazine.

United Airlines is quietly cashing in on the cannabis industry’s business and tourism green rush.
It is illegal to transport cannabis by air for commercial distribution transport per the new laws, but adult-use consumers taking their ounces of flower and grams of concentrates from the famed Emerald Triangle and “Weed Capital of the World” may plan to take their souvenirs home with them.

World’s 1st Hip Hop Themed Dispensary Opens in Portland Hughie StoneFish
Portland’s first hip hop dispensary is more than a cool place to buy nug that plays good music. Crews and Kennedy are giving back to the community in tangible ways. They started the Green Hop Academy where participants can get real life experience working with cannabis at dispensaries, in cultivation centers, and in labs. The other benefit of this academy is the access to networking opportunities to connect with people in the cannabis industry. City of Portland Commissioner Amanda Fritz said “I admire Green Hop’s commitment to supporting African American youth in developing the skills and expertise needed to thrive in the cannabis industry, and share their goal of increasing the participation and success of people of color in an otherwise white-dominated field,”

“This is an opportunity for the City of Portland to encourage people of color in their pursuit to emerge within the cannabis industry. The link between Hip Hop culture and the normalization of cannabis is a natural partnership,” said Portland City Mayor Ted Wheeler. “Green Hop Dispensary’s mission to promote community health and wellness, and increase economic opportunities for people of color is something the City of Portland wholeheartedly supports.”

Canada Passes The Cannabis Act C-45: What Does it Mean?
TEXT HERE WORLD NEWS TEXT HERE
Tommy Knowledge
The Senate approved the Trudeau government’s legislation to lift Canada’s 95-year-old prohibition on recreational cannabis. Many of the amendments, including a ban on the Canadian home growing of cannabis, are considered controversial. Growing your own looks like it may be allowed, as long as it’s fewer than four plants, grown from legally acquired cannabis seeds, kept away from children and minors, and also as long as you’re not in Quebec, Nunavut, Manitoba, or any other province where Federal and Provincial laws don’t coincide with each other. Some of the many issues the Senate struggled with most is the proposed limits on THC potency, the psychoactive agent in cannabis responsible for the euphoric high most people associate with the plant, as well as one that would forbid branding non-cannabis products and swag, like T-shirts, tote bags and baseball hats displaying marijuana company logos and names. Some aspects of The Act seem like a step backward culturally. Bill C-45 would make the giving or selling of cannabis to any person
under the age of 18 a new criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in jail, a relatively harsh sentence that would be in line with facilitating a terrorist activity, torture and human trafficking. That means an 18 year old high school senior who shares a joint at a party with a 17 year old classmate might face over a decade of hard time and could share a cell with a dangerous terrorist, in a worst case-scenario. One of Canada’s more conservative Senators, Dennis Patterson, who represents Nunavut, said "Easy availability of this mind-numbing drug will be devastating in remote areas where vulnerable Indigenous populations are already ravaged by addiction, mental health problems, violence and suicides.” Nunavut comprises a major portion of Northern Canada. Among the most remote, sparsely settled regions, it has a population of 35,944, mostly Inuit, spread over an area of just over 1,750,000 km. Indigenous senators, ended up supporting the bill when initial concerns were alleviated by a last minute written commitment by Indigenous Services Minister Jane Philpott to provide more funding for Indigenous mental health and addiction treatment services, and special help for Indigenous businesses to navigate the licensing process to grow cannabis. The world is waiting to see what Canada does and how the Great White North handles making history when it comes to nationwide legalization. The Library of Parliament website has all 30 pages of Bill C-45 if you’re curious about all of the extensive details. https://lop.parl.ca/Content/LOP/ LegislativeSummaries/42/1/c45-e.pdf

The Cannabis Act, also known as Bill C-45, the proposed rules related to the legalization of cannabis in Canada, is the bill that will legalize cannabis nationwide in the country. The Act was passed by the House of Commons of Canada in late November 2017. On June 7 of this year, the Senate voted to pass Bill C-45. After reconciliation of the House and Senate bills, the Act will be effective later this summer, approximately ten to twelve weeks after the passage. Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor has said that provinces and territories will need two to three months to prepare before retail sales of legal cannabis are actually available. Bill C-45 passed in the upper house by a vote of 56-to-30 with one abstention, over the objections of Conservative senators. Bill C-45 is back with the House of Commons along with a series of amendments recommended by the Upper Chamber, where the government will decide whether to approve, reject or modify the changes before returning it to the Senate for another vote.

Original K’s CBD Sleep Drink
PRODUCT REVIEWS Highly Edible Gummy Candy Pucks Tommy Knowledge
We obtained a few b ot t les of H i g h l y Edible infused THC gummies when we were in Las Vegas for the Nightclub and Bar Expo. The gummy pucks are not only incredibly delicious, they’re also 100% a ll- na t u ra l, g l u te n free, Non-GMO, and Vegan. I’m not kidding when I say they are delicious, I ate too many of them over and over again. Originally the packaging only said “Regular Strength” or “Extra Strength”, and the bottles each contained ten pucks, so we weren’t entirely sure how potent each piece was supposed to be. The new and improved packaging has more details -- Regular Strength is now a solid 100mg (ten 10mg pieces), and Extra Strength is 250mg (ten 25mg pieces). Manufactured by CannaPunch in Nevada, the fruity flavors come in a
variety that includes pineapple, peach, cherry, watermelon and golden strawberry. The Golden Strawberry Pucks were definitely our favorite but all the flavors were really tasty. The ingredients are just: Organic Cane Sugar, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Organic Juice Concentrate, Pectin, Citric and Ascorbic, Organic Black Carrot Juice (for color), and THC/Cannabis Extract. Each piece contains 26 calories in case you’re counting those. While we were rolling high on the Highly Edible Pucks, we decided to take a late night ride on The High Roller Ferris Wheel. High Roller is a 550foot tall,520-foot diameter giant Ferris wheel on the Las Vegas Strip. The experience was extremely enjoyable and I “highly” recommend this combination when you’re in Sin City. The 2:00AM infused view of the brightly lit and flashing landscape is unforgettable and it’s made even better by eating this candy on the world’s biggest ferris wheel. To see where Highly Edible Gummy Pucks are available, check out cannapunch.com.
Aurora Hemp Elixirs

Aurora Hemp Elixirs are a refreshing and nonalcoholic new drink made with all natural ingredients and high quality hemp and cannabis extracts with no artificial flavors or sweeteners. These hemp tonics are nuanced and balanced, highlighting the aromatic undertones and flavors of the most popular cannabis strains. You can enjoy it over ice, or in a savory blended cocktail. This is a simple, tasteful and discreet way to consume cannabinoids. The Hemp Elixir we tried is all CBD, so it’s a totally nonpsychoactive drink with all of the benefits of
cannabidiol in a delicious tasting beverage. The ingredients are simple enough - water, pure cane sugar, hemp extract, gum acacia, natural flavors, ester gum, and citric acid. It’s the perfect drink to hold as you wander around a party or gathering when you don’t want to imbibe actual booze or spirits. The flavors we tried were Grapefruit Rosemary and Lavender Spice and the size of each bottle was 200 ML or (6.7 OZ). Each bottle contains 15mg of CBD, just the right amount to stay sharp and quench your thirst while keeping the edge off. “Embrace the Golden Hour” and take a look at their full range of infused products on the website at auroraelixirs.com.

This product had me sleeping like a rock and waking up like a rockstar. The sleek, 5 Hour Energy reminiscent bottle recommends taking half the bottle as a dose - for me that was three quick gulps - about 20 minutes before bed. I used it one night after some light drinking, and one night with no alcohol in my system. The next morning after my night of drinking, I woke up feeling refreshed and clear headed. They don’t claim to be a hangover cure, and while it didn’t totally cure the effects of the whiskey I had consumed the night before, it certainly mitigated their impact on my morning. The morning after I tried this CBD drink sober, I woke up early and with the kind of alertness that usually only happens in movies. It was awesome.
Can You Spot The Pot?
I have been trying to find a natural sleep aid for some time now, and CBD has been a savior for me. More and more, companies are able to research the medicinal properties of the non-psychoactive properties of cannabis known as CBD. Sleep aids are a wonderful thing to come out of our country leaning into cannabis legalization. The taste of this particular drink was great. Sweet, but not overtly sugary. The ingredients include: Melatonin, Chamomile, Valerian Root, Passion Flower Extract. Like a nice light fruit drink. It went down smooth and actually felt like a nice little before bed treat. The bottle is small enough to fit into your pocket or backpack for overnight trips, and the cap is easy to open and to close. I appreciated that the bottle actually contained two nights worth of CBD sleep help. Because you can’t ‘overdose’ on CBD, I didn’t mind that i had to guesstimate my dose. I recommend this product to people looking for a light sleep aid that tastes great and is natural. Visit originalks.com online to find out where you can get a bottle for yourself. The Hip-Hop Issue

Get Zen CBD Capsules
Outer Galactic Sugar-Free Dark Chocolates

Patrick Ian Moore
This week I got to try Get Zen’s CBD capsules, and I was very pleased with my whole experience. In their words ‘Get Zen is on a mission to improve the quality of life for patients by manufacturing the highest quality medicinal hemp products. Our goal is to bring honesty, integrity and accountability to the hemp market.’ Get Zen ‘started using CBD isolate instead of full spectrum hemp oil because many patients were experiencing drowsiness and fatigue from the “entourage effects” of other cannabinoids instead of the desired symptom relief from CBD without the negative effects.” I tried two different pills - the red Cannaprofen pill and the blue/purple Tranquility pill. The red cannaprofen pill is ‘the answer for those looking to get the medicinal benefits of cannabis without the high.’ 25mg dose is the
perfect amount to get your body and mind feeling right, but not drowsy or overwhelmed. I have been making my own transition to enjoying more CBD products; I enjoy feeling the things i enjoy about THC - being relaxed but also stimulated - without the cloudiness that can sometimes come with THC ingestion. CBD capsules like these are a great alternative to a morning smoke; get the energy and the clarity of that first hit in the morning without the mid day come down that can sometimes accompany it. The Tranquility pill is exactly as its name would have you believe. ‘This low dose capsule delivers CBD oil for anxiety and is a great solution for anxious people.’ I tend to be an outwardly pretty chill guy with a brain that sometimes runs 100 miles a minute. Cannabis is a big part of how I remember to take deep breaths and enjoy life. Just like with the red pill, this Tranquility CBD pill helped to ease some of that anxiety in my brain and in my body. I recommend for use throughout the day! You can learn more about Get Zen and these great CBD capsules at www.GetZenCA.com
Hello Pen Pineapple OG Vape Cartridge

Hello Pen is a very cool new brand of vape that recently entered the California cannabis scene and they’ve made a nice impression. The cartridge is a nicely updated classic with a ceramic heating element, stainless steel mouthpiece and base, with a quartz glass tank that won’t break if you drop it. “Meticulously-designed world-class hardware.” The HP carts are all filled with solvent and pesticide free distillate that rocks a solid score of 86% THC and 5% CBD. That’s a nice number and absolutely enough to get the job done. All natural and with no PG, VG, PEG or MCT, and the product is fully lab tested too. Available in half and full gram sizes as well as Cannalope Haze and Blueberry Kush, these vapes are potent to be sure and a little goes a long
way. The taste and aroma were both sweetly flavorful without tasting fake or over cooked. It’s a strong but subtle taste and these produce a lot of vapor cloud -- perfect for blowing smoke rings or french inhaling if that’s your thing. The high produced was very laid back and smiley with no paranoia at all. The smell dissipates quickly so you don’t need to worry about much as far as bothering other people goes. After a nice vape session with the Hello Pen I spent some time in a lawn chair by the poolside taking it easy and listening to the soundtrack from the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie -- the Pina Colada Song lyrics are crazy. This cartridge has your standard 510 threading and will fit any basic battery. It has a nice sleek look so you should be just as comfortable puffing on this when you’re out on the town, or home on the couch. Again -- Hello Pen hits big, so inhale easy and relax into it. Learn more about the company and their products by visiting their website: hello-pen.com.

This box had nine chocolates total, making the total amount of tetrahydrocannabinol 225mg. That’s quite a lot for most people so we’d advise taking these one at a time and waiting 30-50 minutes in between each dose. Outer Galactic chocolate is made in small batches by an award winning chef and chocolatier. 80% Cacao is excellent when it comes to ingredients that help the body. Cacao beans are superfoods with health benefits like antioxidant effects, it boosts your mood and cognitive performance, lowers blood pressure, regulates insulin levels, and protects the heart. OG Chocolates all have a uniquely artistic and colorful swirl inspired by the interstellar nebulous galaxies of cosmic outer space. This particular product from Outer Galactic is completely sugar-free and sweetened entirely with organic Stevia. In case you don’t know, Stevia is a sweetener and sugar substitute extracted from the leaves of the plant species Stevia rebaudiana. The artisan, quality dark chocolate used by OGC is rich in Fiber, Iron, Magnesium, Copper, and a few other minerals. Infused with cannabis oil, the medicine in this product is undetectable taste-wise but works perfectly and tastes good too. I ate 3 to start (75mg) and waited while I looked for something on Amazon Prime. It crept on slow and steady and within an hour I was giggling to myself and feeling fully relaxed while I rewatched THOR: Ragnarok at midnight on a Sunday. It had not even been a month since I had performed my poem on cannabis legalization, Stop The Madness, for the first time ever.
50
The First (And Only) Performance It all started in April, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; I was presenting my book, Start Your Own Cannabis Business: Your Step-By-Step Guide To The Marijuana Industry, published via Entrepreneur Books. A friend, who happens to also be a Senator in the U.S., had suggested I showed a sort of rap I had written to the 300 invites at a dinner cruise taking place later that night in the context of a three- day cannabis conference. “I showed this to you in confidence, just for fun,” I responded. “This is nothing more than a creative pitch to get playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda to talk with me about medical marijuana. And, by the way, an unsuccessful pitch at it; I never got to interview Lin-Manuel.” He did not care. He wanted me to show it to his guests. And so, I did. The reception was amazing. People nodded and agreed out
loud when I talked “about the Washingtons that could fund education.” People laughed when I suggested that “The great debate over morals has to wait” comparing it with “Bubba telling Forrest about shrimp on Judgment Day.” Some people even broke down in tears… The Deal Although I was really embarrassed, for I am a reporter rather than a public figure, I decided to share a video recording of my performance at the dinner cruise. As luck would have it, Jonathan Hay, the producer mentioned at the beginning of the article, saw it and loved it. He instantly wrote to me saying he had an album coming out next week and asked me if I would like to be included. Of course I would! This was an album featuring some of my favorite people in music, including Smith and Hay, Ranna Royce, Wu-Tang’s RZA & Inspectah Deck, Twista, Lil Windex, Riff Raff, Cyhi The Prynce, Faincarter, Compton’s Most Wanted’s MC Eiht, The Wake Up Show’s King Tech, Parliament-Funkadelic’s Jerome “Bigfoot” Brailey, Iliana Eve, LX Xander, and Eminem’s artists Kxng Crooked and Conway. Beyond the excitement of being included in a real record and getting to chat with some of these very cool people, I did not expect much to come from this whole ordeal. However, on the week of its debut, “The Whoodlum Ball”, hit eight different Billboard Charts, including the #1 spot on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, #9 on Rap

Charts, and #11 on Independent Charts. As per the request of my awesome friends at Edibles Magazine, here’s the full poem for your enjoyment. Stop The Madness Yo, peers. Allow me to drop some “ritmo,” Talk cannabis legalization. Let me tell you about the Washingtons that could fund education. We could create a lot of wealth for every state in our great Nation, A multiple billion-dollar basis of new taxation.
What about taxes? And what about the jobs? We need to make weed legal, it is time to cut the loss. To recap: 3.2 hundred million American civilians are missing out on billions. Booze, tobacco, pharma and prisons are leading this grand shakeout, There’s nothing left to say or do. We’re done. We want a bill out! It’s time to close the fracture, weed is not the malefactor. We can’t just let it play out. For some, death is less than a year out.
Hoping to God Jeff Sessions’ tragic misinformation Does not confuse the Congress, which needs to pass legislation, Ending with fratricidal tax burdens on medication. I care about the stoners, but this is really about the patients. This is a topic we refuse to ignore, The opioid epidemic hitting home is real hardcore. We got here at the cost of a million tombstones, Leaving cartels to business, while damming the good souls.
It’s non-partisan. The hard part is in convincing Congress legalization matters So their hearts get in the fight. Not to get high. But for relief. A belief that there’s a leaf that can help millions ease their grief. Sean Spicer, I’ll agree with your alternative “facts,” I’ll play board-games with the Kushners, I’ll wear a Trump campaign hat.
They’ve locked up yours? They’ve locked up mine.
Our citizens are suffering. Stop the Madness, it’s just pot.
But somewhere down the line
Help our patients, all that’s needed is ONE law.
We decided: if you’re white, you’ll get off with a simple fine. The great debate over morals has to wait. That’s Bubba telling Forrest about shrimp on Judgment Day. We need to be pragmatic and focus on what matters. We’ve got Veterans, kids and mothers, patients going down the gutters

Turkish Rapper 'Ezhel' Faces Prison Time for Cannabis Lyrics Patrick Ian Moore
Edibles Magazine Issue 46
In the 1978 movie “Midnight Express,” a young American would be smuggler, Billy Hayes, is arrested at the Istanbul airport with hash taped to his chest. He is thrown into a Turkish prison and endures a horrifyingly traumatic time at the hands of sadistic prison guards before managing to escape. The film received positive reviews from critics, however, Hayes (the subject and author) and others criticized the movie for portraying the Turkish people as violent and evil and for deviating too much from the original true story-source material. “Midnight Express” has always kind of been where my awareness and exposure to the idea of serving time in a Turkish prison begins and ends, and even that seems to have been misinterpreted by Hollywood.
54
Now, forty years after the release of “Midnight Express”, a special team from the elite Istanbul drug squad has arrested Turkish rapper Ezhel, whose real name is Ömer Sercan İpekçioğlu, and who is an up and coming hip hop star out of Turkey. He may have only one studio album to his name so far, but the young performer has garnered well over 30 million YouTube hits, and he was on the schedule to perform live shows with cannabis icon Wiz Khalifa over the summer. According to ‘Ahval News’, one of Turkey’s leading media sites: “The Turkish government arrested Ezhel for ‘promotion of drug use,’ an accusation that has received outrage from fans around the world. “Writing a song cannot be a crime,” stated Ezhel’s manager, Riza Okcu. The government should arrest the real criminals. Rap music tells the truth about what happens in the streets.” A large number of Turkish social media users were shocked by the development, especially Twitter users, with many questioning why the Turkish police targeted and jailed the young rap artist for his lyrics, instead of investigating actual serious crimes and criminals. Turkey has their own problems with criminal activity it seems, especially against women. The Turkish Prime Ministry's Human Rights Directorate reported that in Istanbul alone there was an average of one honor killing per week and according to official figures, in the year 2013, about 28,000 women were assaulted and of those, more than 214 were murdered by husbands or lovers. Many Turkish hip hop fans are outraged that the rapes and killings go unpunished while a rapper they love is being arrested for writing songs promoting the benefits of cannabis use.
The 28-year-old musician released his first studio album, Müptezhel, in 2017. A native of Turkey’s capital city of Ankara, Ezhel is currently Turkey’s most successful rap artist, whose song “Geceler” has been streamed over 13 million times on the music streaming platform Spotify and whose single ‘Şehrimin Tadı’ has been listened to more than 33 million times over YouTube. Ezhel combines western stylings with Turkish subject matter that he understands oh so well. Ezhel can also play the bağlama, a stringed Persian instrument, and guitar. Now he’s facing a decade behind bars for his music as a form of extreme censorship, when cannabis is freely talked about openly by many nations of the world and has been for some time. The severe Turkish drug laws are especially strict, and drug possession can mean very lengthy prison sentences. The ‘encouragement of drug use,’ which Ezhel is now accused of, can earn someone up to 10 years in jail. Cannabis in Turkey is illegal for recreational use, but the cultivation of marijuana is legal in 19 provinces for medicinal and scientific purposes. The production and import or export of drugs are punishable by a prison sentence of 30 years and Turkey is generally believed to be one of the countries with the harshest drug laws in the world. EuroNews.com reported that: “On July 15 2016, Turkey underwent an attempted coup against its government. The coup was prevented but repercussions are felt in every quarter of life. Over 100 journalists were jailed in the post-coup crackdown, which brought the total number of journalists in prison to 165, The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) voted to reopen a monitoring probe into Turkey over concerns about human rights. That means Turkey will be subject to frequent visits by human rights officials.” The coup attempt seems to have transformed the cultural landscape of the country and it doesn’t bode well for free thinking artists like Ezhel. “Midnight Express” may have been an exaggeration back in 1978, but the thought of doing hard time in a Turkish prison still sounds like a nightmare, and a particularly terrible one when your only crime is writing and singing about using cannabis. It’s scary to think about the number of laws that we’d be breaking if we were to try and publish Edibles Magazine in Turkey. I’ve met Billy Hayes and he’s a very sincere and high spirited person. Meeting Ezhel someday would be a real honor, and we hope his struggles with the authorities are over soon and he is safe and free, instead of wasting away in prison while his contemporaries tour the world. In the year 339 BC, Socrates was executed by the state for corrupting the minds of the youth of Athens. You’d think that over 2000 years later the act of “being a bad influence” would no longer be a crime, but unfortunately for artists like Ezhel, that still isn’t the case. As George Orwell said, "If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear." We all only wish it was as simple as the Turkish Authorities choosing not to listen to Ezhel’s music. Follow the hashtag #FreeEzhel to learn more and keep up with the case, and follow Ezhel on Twitter - @ezhel06.

Blazed Blerd (Black Nerd) Groovy Movie - Pacific Rim: Uprising DJ Reid 420
Eastwood have great chemistry except for the two times that Eastwood calls Boyega "brother." The second time I could of swore he said "brotha." It sounds weird. Most sequels are not better than the original, but this sequel is at least only slightly sub par than the original.

Pacific Rim: Uprising is a PG-13 sequel that has everything a fourteen year old Chinese boy wants in a movie. Robots, monsters, robot monsters and Clint Eastwood Jr. (Scott Eastwood). I love this movie if only because it crushes the diversity barrier in the East. I never thought I would see a movie obviously targeting the Asian youth demographic starring a black guy. Not an African American. He’s African European. John Boyega crushes it doing what he does best...being British. Is Uprising the sequel to Pacific Rim or is Attack the Block the prequel? And if you’ve never seen John B. in the classic British sci-fi movie Attack the Block, watch it before you watch Pacific Rim 2. Boyega is channeling all the charm he’s mastered from the Star Wars films, but I would advise him to lay of the chocolate sprinkles. There is a lot of junk in the trunk of that Jaeger. Piloting a giant robot is a lot like working a digital elliptical trainer and Boyega does a lot of running and never has to catch his breath. Get back on the treadmill Johnny, because your boyfriend makes you look kinda fat. Did I say boyfriend? Am I suggesting there was some sexual tension between Scott Eastwood and John Boyega? Yeah. That’s right. I said it! Pacific Rim 2 is gay. It’s as gay as Top Gun. Like most military propaganda movies there is always a hidden homosexual overtone that makes the film more enticing. The gay romance is one of the best things about Top Gun and if you haven’t watched it, watch it before you watch Pacific Rim 2. In this Pacific Rim there is no Uprising, especially not in my pants. Like all Chinese state approved cinema this movie is devoid of any sex or romance. The only real lust in the film is a forced love triangle between the two leading men and another female character. Boyega and
The first Pacific Rim was far from perfect and strangely the sequel has a lot of the same problems. Lack of romance. The final battle is the weakest battle and the supporting cast often steals the scene from the lead actors. But I watched Pacific Rim 2 with a killer Indica that made the whole experience feel like a video game worth playing. If you are a big fan of Macross, Voltron or Ultraman, 2. etc...you can probably forgive this movie’s flaws and just enjoy watching the giant action figures at play. If you don’t know any of these references I mentioned, this may not be the movie for you. If you’re real nerd you may even spot the Mobile Suit Gundam homage. And of course the best thing about Pacific Rim 2 is the attempt to capture the Guillermo Del Toro production design. Why do monsters look cooler at night in the rain? Del Toro has definitely seen the Original Godzilla of 1954. If you haven’t seen Godzilla, watch it before you watch Pacific Rim 3. Yeah. That’s right. I said Pacific Rim Part three! Because you know there will be one.

CA Senate Bill 930 is in the Assembly's Hands Now for State Chartered Cannabis Banking System B. Le Grand
Senate Bill 930, introduced by Sen. Bob Hertzberg, (D-Van Nuys), passed the Senate on a 29-6 vote, and is now in the second round of commenting phase with the Assembly. It is a bill that would allow financial institutions to offer limited banking services to the state’s legal cannabis businesses. The bill comes as a ray of hope for cannabis dispensaries, manufacturers and even ancillary businesses that have been waiting for the opportunity for legitimate cannabis banking. We have heard countless stories of bank accounts, credit cards, even mortgages getting pulled and closed for being related to the cannabis industry. Under SB 930, California would allow for the creation of limited-charter licenses for banks and credit unions overseen by the Department of Business Oversight, the state’s financial regulator. This special-charter institution model would allow checks to be issued that could be used to pay state or local fees and taxes, rent or cost of goods including cannabis goods, or to buy state or local bonds or warrants.

The bill was co-sponsored by Board of Equalization member Fiona Ma.

US NEWS spraying it with Febreze so it didn’t smell like weed in order to deposit it. Colorado’s state cannabis bank Safe Harbor created the model for California to follow. Other regulated cannabis states like Hawaii now use Safe Harbor in conjunction with CannaPay to operate cashless transactions. Federal law forbids federally regulated and insured banks or credit unions from knowingly accepting cannabis money, excluding the $10 billion legal cannabis industry easy banking, easy accounting and painless payments. “ T he s ta tu s qu o f or ou r gr owi ng l ega l c a nna b i s i nd u s tr y i s unsustainable,” said Sen. Bob Hertzberg. “It’s not only impractical from an accounting perspective, but it also presents a tremendous public safety problem. This bill takes a limited approach to provide all parties with a safe and reliable way to move forward on this urgent issue.” State officials estimate they will collect $600 million in cannabis taxes in the upcoming year, raising a very real public safety issue, including the possibility of theft, as business owners carry duffel bags stuffed with cash to state offices. The use of cash also makes it hard for the state to account for and audit transactions, not to mention the California Department of Fee and Taxation are not able to take cash payments above $20,000. "The question becomes, 'With that amount of cash, what do you do?' — because you can't deposit in a bank," Sen. Bob Hertzberg said during a legislative hearing. "We are faced with a significant public safety challenge." The measure was also backed by Lindsay Robinson, Executive Director of the California Cannabis Industry Association (CCIA). Robinson told lawmakers a CCIA member has an $800,000 tax bill due next month and plans to pay it in cash. "The threat of violence and theft is extremely real for our members," Robinson said. Hertzberg has proposed an advisory board that includes the state treasurer, controller and chief of the state Bureau of Cannabis Control. The legislation would also allow banks to be privately insured in lieu of the FDIC.
“California can’t wait to take action. With secure banking for cannabis through SB 930, the industry will benefit, the state will get a revenue boost and pot cash will get off our streets,” she said in a news release.
All of the proposals proposing change to state banking to allow for cannabis businesses to bank were under threat U.S. Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions that his office would begin enforcing federal laws against marijuana in states where voters had acted to make it legal.
Multiple docu-series that aired on CNN and MSNBC chronicled what Colorado dispensaries and growers were going through attempting to bank prior to their state chartered banking system. They documented how washing cash and
President Trump personally directed a retreat from that position after discussions with Republican Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado, a state that has successful state chartered banking, regulatory structure and taxation. Hopefully California’s Assembly members will agree with the Senate so it becomes law.

FOOD SCIENCE
FOOD SCIENCE
Rachel Zemser
Edibles Magazine Issue 46
Years ago (around a decade ago) most of the processed food products on the market were made by large companies- like Unilever, Nestle, Kraft and Campbell's Soup. Products were designed to last years on the shelf. This was all possible because of the multitude of industrial ingredients available to manufacturers like xanthan gum, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate and citric acid. These ingredients are designed to prevent bacteria from growing, lower pH, create unique textures and keep baked goods soft and delicious. Fast -forward, the food industry landscape has changed and there are now thousands of startup food based companies who want to put out what they believe are healthier shelf stable options to compete with existing big brands. Part of the new food landscape involves using “clean” ingredients that are not only recognizable to consumers but also bring awareness to what is inside the food product.
60
Clean and Clear The consumer's desire for clean, clear and recognizable ingredient statements has presented a challenge to food scientists and manufacturers who must develop the food products for these startups, and who need to have access to the array of ingredients available to them that will enable them to make the product functional, safe, shelf stable and in compliance with FDA labeling regulations. There is no real definition of clean and most startup companies have a mission to put out a food product with a specific functional or health purpose and they have their own ideas of how to relay the ingredients inside the product to their target market. Ingredient statements are now strategic mission statements and are a crucial part of a food company's marketing strategy. It
is important that start up companies do their research and try to understand what the foreign sounding ingredients are, the specific function or role it plays in the development of their product, the FDA rules on how it should be listed and what cleaner sounding alternatives exist. Learn The Regulations There is a whole section in the FDA Code of Federal Regulations (CFR’s) that is dedicated to explaining how ingredients need to be listed on a food product. This chapter is famously known (at least famously known to food scientists) as 21 CFR 101.4 This section includes examples like—sugar can’t be called “sucrose” and when you must use specific ingredient names and when you have the option to use a more “generic” term. Food scientists and regulatory label creators must follow these rules or they will be violating the FDA code. FDA violations can lead to letters from the FDA and possible product recalls. Don't Mislead The Masses The rules of the FDA are very specific and start-up companies often wish they could describe an ingredient in a way that they perceive to be more “positive”. This type of wishful thinking can easily lead to a label that the FDA and your consumers could construe as misleading. For example, one would rather say evaporated cane juice instead of “sugar”, and the FDA will take issue with that, or a brand owner may want to call an ingredient by its trademarked name like “Fibersol” instead of what is really is (soluble corn fiber) because they think the trademark name sounds better. Don’t attempt to call an ingredient whatever you like- you must always consult with a regulatory specialist to make sure you are in compliance with
EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com
Learn Why The Ingredient Is Needed Are you making a shelf stable beverage and need to lower your pH? You may need to include citric acid in your formula. Do you want your baked good to last more than a few days on the shelf? You may need calcium propionate or potassium sorbate to inhibit mold growth. Do you want your fat free salad dressing to be smooth and creamy? You might need carrageenan or xanthan gum. Do you need to lower the water activity of your product to keep it dry and prevent bacteria from growing- you might decide to add corn syrup instead of sugar to prevent crystallization and keep your product affordable. Find Alternatives There is more than one ingredient out there that can be used to create your desired end product. For exampleyou may not want to use “corn syrup” because it has the word corn in it or because your consumers associate corn syrup with GMO’s or High Fructose Corn Syrup. Corn syrup in Europe is referred to as “glucose syrup” and in the U.S. you can substitute brown rice or tapioca syrup instead. You could also source out organic GMO free corn syrup too if you think that your consumers will feel better knowing that corn syrup does exist in an organic format. Sometimes the simple act of sourcing
out an organic source of a unusual sounding ingredient will put your consumers at ease once they realize that it’s “organic”. Other alternatives out there include lemon juice concentrate for pH reduction (versus citric acid) and mold inhibiting “cultured whey” instead of the more unfamiliar potassium sorbate. These more natural sounding ingredients come at a higher price that can add cost to your final product and lower your profit margin. Educate The industry is trying very hard to create labels that a consumer and their grandparents can understand. Sometimes educating the consumer as to why a particular unclear or unhealthy sounding word is necessary can help you justify to them why you have decided to use it. A company website can give start up companies an opportunity to let their voice be heard and provide information, education and direction to legitimate third party studies can explain in simple terms why ingredients were chosen and clarification on their origins. Next Steps As you begin to plan out your next product to market idea try to think about how you can use the ingredients you want to use and believe in and how you can relay that information to your consumers. Don’t think of ingredients as clean or dirty, good or bad because every target market has their own perception based on what they read online or heard on the news or what voice has reached out and influenced them. Keep your statements honest and don’t try to manipulate the truth.

Georgia Family Loses Custody of Their 15 Year Old Son for Treating His Seizures with Cannabis B. Le Grand
On April 20th, Matthew and Suzeanna Brill, a Georgia couple, lost custody of their 15 year old son, for giving him cannabis to treat his debilitating seizures. His parents say his seizures occurred “seven days a week, 24 hours a day.” They have not seen their son since the Georgia's Division of Family and Children Services took him and placed him in a group home. WMAZ originally reported the Brill family had tried a multitude of remedies and medications, including industrial hemp CBD oil (which the state of Georgia legally allows), but nothing was effective. “The only way he could get a medical card would be a six-year waiting list,” Suzeanna told CBS News. That medical card would only allow them to possess lowTHC CBD oil, which became apparent to the Brills was not enough. In desperation, they decided to let him try whole plant cannabis flower which is illegal in Georgia. Matthew, the child’s step-father stated in court documents and to the press, he tried the marijuana first and then gave it to his son. "I smoke it first. I know where it comes from, I know my people. I made sure the bag was good, packed the bowl in my bowl, which I know ain't been anywhere else, and I set it on the table and told him that it was his decision. I did not tell him he had to or not," Matthew said. The Brills said when their son began smoking multiple times a day, it kicked off a 71-day seizure-free stretch. They were charged with reckless conduct by the Twiggs county Sheriff’s department. Sheriff Darren Mitchum says what they’re doing is criminal, “It doesn’t matter if I don’t agree with the law…. or like it. It doesn’t matter.” They say they'd do it again to protect their child. Suzeanna said, “Nothing else was working. I can't have my kid dying because no one wants to listen." The Brills are currently out on bail and fighting to get their son back. They say they’re not bad parents and they were doing what they had to in order to stop their son's frequent seizures. Since he has been removed from his home, placed 60 miles away and not allowed to smoke medical marijuana, the debilitating seizures have returned. Issue 46 I Page 67

Chef Feature: Chef Nuha, a Cannabis Industry OG How does your ethnic background inspire your culinary creations?
What has the process been like getting licensed in California? B. Le Grand
What inspired you to become a Chef? Cooking and being in a kitchen was built in my genes. My great-grandfather was a cook in Jordan. My grandfather was a world-renowned chef at some of the finest restaurants and country clubs, my mother was a chef and baker becoming a celebrity wedding cake designer, then later becoming the head baker chef at P.F. Changs, then Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf then over to Panera. In my family we basically communicated through different dishes that are made and inspired us to take old recipes and add modern touches

What’s it like being a female in the cannabis industry?
70
The legal and accepted cannabis industry is a relatively new industry that has blossomed during a generation that has been more accepting of women's rights and equality. I am always excited to see the large percentage of women being represented in the industry. Further, it seems that most edibles companies have been launched by women so its really feels like a leveled playing field, especially with edibles.
Being married to a cannabis attorney who helped draft many local and state ordinances gave us a leg up on licensing, however it was an extremely difficult and expensive process. Gratefully, we now have three fully licensed facilities, two with large commercial kitchens fully vertically integrated with state licenses. However, as more cities open to micro-business licenses I can see that being a more viable option for smaller edibles companies. I would also recommend shared co-op spaces and joint ventures for edibles companies seeking to get into the licensed cannabis market in California. What do you think this set of regulations for legalization is going to do to small businesses and small business owners? Its 100% going to destroy mom and pop businesses especially edibles companies. We are already seeing small business failing to the way side due to the costs of entering the legal market, the amount of capital and resources required and the amount of bureaucracy to get through the licensing system. What was the first time you got high? The first time I got high was in high school, I was a freshman and I had left early to smoke out with seniors to be cool. I do not recall ever
What sets you apart from other cannabis chefs? I feel what sets me part is that I am a foodie first, a classically trained chef second and a cannabis chef third. My experience in culinary arts and my training at Le Cordon Bleu and my family history of chefs, restaurants and cooking all have had a culinary impact on me. EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com
really stopping.
potent. be patient and build your tolerance. All it takes is one bad trip and then most people will never take an edible again.
What’s your tolerance level now? I would say it has reduced as my curiosity and embracing of cannabis for its medicinal and spiritual qualities have surpassed my desire for the euphoria. I really love micro-dosing and have gotten to really be captivated by the other cannabinoid profiles other then THC, but your THCA, THCV, CBD, CBN and CBG. What’s your favorite way to consume cannabis? I am still an old school, joint rolling stoner. What is your infusion process (without giving away your trade secrets)? For many years it was simply infusing decarboxylated cannabis with butter, and then using the butter in a variety of dishes, simple and easy. For me, I love the taste of cannabis. However lately and ever more frequently I have been using distillate cannabis oil due to the removing of the terpene profiles and the ability to get a more accurate dosing.
Were you a fan of Anthony Bourdain and his shows? How do you think his passing will affect the celebrity chef community? The sudden loss of Anthony Bourdain was felt by so many people because it was if they lost a life long friend who they never met. Anthony was able to bridge culture on a ground level bases. He brought food, people and culture in a way that all other travel shows had failed to ever reach into. We were able to see into the lives of others, in places we would of never thought of visiting and to taste food we would of never thought of eating. He addressed political and moral issues all wrapped into a simple dish of food. It’s saddens me to know how much pain he was in. For those of you who haven’t read Kitchen Confidential and are fans of his it’s a must. His presence will be deeply missed. He was a national treasure that generations to come will read about. I believe it will affect the chef community in a very positive way, people who didn’t really know all his good it all came out the day he passed and some of that good will stick on all of us
Tell us about your products and what you have coming out.
What changes do you hope to see in cannabis legislation in California?
On July 1, 2018 we are releasing to the licensed California market my new Cannabiscotti line with three skews, a cherry, cranberry with white chocolate drizzle, dark chocolate and peanut butter cacao chips, an almond and pistachio with rose water and brown sugar and a new vegan and gluten free cannabite with oatmeal, walnut, dates and flax seed. of course we will also be re-releasing my extra virgin first press medicated olive oil.
I think the high taxation will be a hinder to legalization as the black market prices will dominate, making it hard for legal businesses to compete. I would love to see more licenses being issued for retail and less for manufacturing and cultivation as it's nearly 50 (cultivation/manufacturing) to 1 (retail).
What do you think the key to making consistent edibles is? Precision, consistent testing, almost scientific formulations and never ever cutting corners. Any recommendations to newbies to edibles? Microdose. Be careful if the product is home made or not as they seem to be quite a bit more EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

My Middle Eastern heritage always is felt in my dishes, especially in developing many meatless options, foods based upon the seasons and healthier options that have been part of Mediterranean cooking for thousands of years. Its seen in my infused my olive oils, where back in Jordan my family grew their own olives and pressed their cold pressed olive oil , in addition to the foray of Mediterranean foods that are always present in my cooking.

Q: WHY DOES GETTING HIGH MAKE MUSIC BETTER?
SUMMER WHAT PRODUCTS SHOULD I BRING?
A: Smoking cannabis releases serotonin and dopamine in your brain. This triggers a reward making you feel happy. Guess what! Your favorite song does the exact same thing. It’s pretty obvious that having the two together is awesome! Cannabis also relaxes you and opens your mind which can give you a new appreciation for music.
A: If you are going to party bring enough to share, at least a couple joints!! You can’t go wrong with some good ole flower. Just make sure not to get in trouble smoking in front of security, if they even care. I’d stay away from most edibles, it’s summer time, that hot sun will bake most edibles into a goopy mess. Vape pens are a must for a concert, they are discreet and easy to share, I never leave home without one!
Q: WHY DO SO MANY MUSICIANS SMOKE TO WRITE MUSIC?

Ask DR. MIKE
The State of the Industry: Overview of U.S. Cannabis Policy and Next Steps
EDUCATION.
COMMUNITY.
A: Smoking cannabis alters your mental state. Your perception becomes distorted, time frames are shifted and your thought process gets turned upside down. This allows musicians to connect ideas in their brain they normally would never consider. It helps them think outside the box...the essence of creativity. Q: WHICH RAPPERS HAVE THEIR OWN STRAINS OF THE STICKY ICKY? A: Wiz Khalifa has his strain Khalifa Kush. Snoop Dogg has his own cannabis brand Leafs By Snoop that carries an assortment of flowers including Snoop Dogg OG, shatters and edibles. B-Real of Cypress Hill has is own dispensary, Dr. Greenthumb, in SoCal and has his own Tangie strain. X to the Z, Xzibit works with Brass Knuckles on vape products and edibles. Juicy J’s personal strain is Green Suicide. Kurupt is well known for his Moonrocks. Migos have their own strain Migos Gas. Soulja Boy has King Soulja and Marilyn Monroe OG. Berner is behind the scenes with the Cookies dispensaries, he is responsible for the Cookies clothing line and his strain is Berner’s Cookies. There are way more rappers that have their own strains, but we try to keep this article short. Q: I’M GOING TO A FESTIVAL THIS
Q: WHAT IS IN MY VAPE PEN? A: Depending on who you are getting them from there could be a lot of different things in there. I’d say you can always count on a some sort of cannabis oil and some flavoring. A few years ago most vape pens were made from dark earthy oils that were extracted using carbon dioxide. Nowadays people are putting high end distilled cannabis oil into their pens. Distilled oil is a highly potent beautiful golden tasteless and odorless oil. Manufacturers then add flavors or terpenes to jazz them up or make them strain specific. You might also find some fillers in your vape pen such as MCT oil, propylene glycol or glycerin. Q: WHY SHOULD I AVOID VAPE PENS THAT CONTAIN MCT OIL, PROPYLENE GLYCOL OR GLYCERIN? A: First off you are getting ripped off, those ingredients are cutting agents. You may be getting a ½ gram cartridge to vape on, but how much of that is actually doing the job? Vape pens also heat to temperatures above 600 degrees, this can cause some of these fillers to breakdown into harmful chemicals. This is especially concerning for vaping propylene glycol which turns into formaldehyde aka embalming fluid YIKES!
