LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Greetings my friends,

It’s Fall now and that means it’s officially Croptober time. For those that don’t know what “Croptober” is, it’s a nickname for the outdoor cannabis harvesting season. Technically there is no exact start or end date to Croptober, but for most growers, Croptober typically occurs throughout the month of October and it’s when you’ll traditionally see the highest volume of quality flower at the lowest prices you’re going to see all year long, so there’s that to look forward to as well as so much else, like: The Los Angeles Comic Con the Virginia Comic Con and Halloween. It’s best to start choosing or building your

costumes now for those events if you haven’t already. Cannabis legalization continues to evolve across the country. It’s actually pretty hard to keep up with. The differences, for instance, in the laws between California, Hawaii, Nevada and Oklahoma are confusing. Right now Oklahoma is a lot like Los Angeles was ten years ago. There’s 1800 dispensaries in the state of Oklahoma and only 200 in the city of LA, but we’re still hearing from everyone that there isn’t enough supply to meet the demand. Visiting feels like time travel and it’s pretty cool. There are cannabis shops everywhere and billboards for dispensaries and WeedMaps all over the place. Vaping is suddenly the hottest button topic there is. It’s hotter than gun control and hotter than immigration. The fact that those statements are true makes me feel like it could all be an intentional distraction conspiracy but gosh are people upset. Massachusetts and India have banned vaping and Los Angeles wants to. Vapes being sold on the black market and cut with coconut oil, vitamin e

oil, propylene glycol, vegetable glycol, and other dangerous fillers are ruining it for. everyone. If you’re going to vape, do your research and know who’s producing the product you’re ingesting. Even pesticides deemed safe by the FDA for nutritional consumption aren’t supposed to be heated up and inhaled into the lungs. Try to find pure cannabis oil with a native or natural terpene reintroduction and don’t settle for less, it isn’t worth your health. There’s some very fun stuff in this issue, including the same great news, recipes and product reviews we feature every month and a new canna crossword puzzle too. Enjoy the Nano Issue! As always, smile at your budtender, tip your delivery driver, and know your dose. “Truth is not obliged to stick to possibilities.”

OrganiGram Holdings OrganiGram Holdings (NASDAQ:OGI), has chosen to set up a variety of inhouse derivative options. Considering the extreme importance of derivatives to cannabis stock margins, it isn’t surprising to find that so many growers have been so focused on derivative production for a good portion of 2019. Based in Atlantic Canada, OrganiGram sells medical cannabis both online and via phone to individuals and physicians. The company has developed a nano-emulsification technology that can speed up the onset of the effects of cannabinoids. This product will first be introduced as a powder that can be added to beverages, but OrganiGram is also actively looking for a partner to help it develop an infused beverage product containing this proprietary technology. They operate 5 healing centers for PTSD treatment, trauma therapy, chronic pain, and they use medical cannabis as an alternative medicine. During the OrganiGram's fiscal third quarter, OrganiGram announced that it'd be investing 15 million Canadian dollars into a line of fully automated equipment necessary to produce up to nine million pounds of chocolate edibles per year.

Weedmaps to End Illicit Advertising of Unlicensed Cannabis Businesses

They left out the part that says exactly when they will start enforcing this, but they claim it will begin “later this year.” Insiders in the cannabis industry are skeptical that Weedmaps will follow through with their promise. The illicit advertisers have always been the bread and butter of their multimillion dollar revenue stream. Nicole Elliott, the cannabis industry czar for California Gov. Gavin Newsom, told MJ Biz Daily she expressed support for the move but underlined that “the devil is in the details.”

in violation of advertising laws because they are listing unlicensed businesses. Weedmaps very publicly on social media posted their defiant response, which included stating that they were not “under the purview of the BCC.” Since then, there has been no public word from where the standoff was going until now. Weedmaps had continuously been angering the licensed businesses that went through the heartache and bureaucracy of getting licensed under California’s extremely restrictive legalization laws. Some even refusing to advertise or pay for their dispensary listings in protest of not wanting to compete with the unlicensed businesses posting no tax prices on their menus. Others profess that their service is a necessary evil because of the monopoly they have as a dispensary finder, stating that they lose two-thirds of their business if they don’t pay for their Weedmaps listing and they take it down.

Early in 2018, Weedmaps received a letter Only time will tell if Weedmaps honors from the Bureau of Cannabis Control their promise to go straight like the rest of (BCC) in California telling them they are the newly legalized industry. EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

Weedmaps, the go-to website and dispensary finder app, has finally decided to end a year and a half standoff with California regulators over advertising unlicensed cannabis businesses. The company is based in Irvine, California, and announced in a press release that they would start to require a state license number for all retail advertising listings going forward.

The U.S. House voted 321-103 to pass the SAFE Banking Act on September 25. It marked the first major floor vote in Washington, D.C. that had to do with any type of cannabis legislation reform. H.R. 1595 will provide a safe harbor for financial institutions that work with cannabis business clients, effectively opening the door to formal banking relationships in the fragmented, federally illegal cannabis industry. U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) has been leading the charge for cannabis banking reform in Congress for years. As the bill’s primary sponsor in the U.S. House, Perlmutter introduced the debate on the floor by extolling the importance of public safety—and by defining how banking protections will lead to a more secure industry in general. The vote count touched on a rare moment of bipartisan support in Congress. U.S. Rep. Steve Stivers (R-OH) pointed out that the debate focused on the public safety aspect. Most people don’t know what licensed legal cannabis operations have to go through in order to do simple business transactions like pay bills. You can’t put the cash in a bank account or they will shut it down. Some tax agencies and utility companies don't even accept cash a valid payment method. Banking reform has been hailed as a vital step forward in the development of legal cannabis businesses, as well as normalization and some form of federal recognition of cannabis as a legitimate industry. "We applaud the House for taking up this vital cannabis policy reform legislation,” Neal Levine, CEO of the Cannabis Trade Federation, said in a public statement.

CDPH-10003429 | C-11-0000209

“The SAFE Banking Act will ensure statelegal cannabis businesses and their employees have access to the same basic banking and financial services that are available to other legal industries. Allowing the cannabis industry to access banking services will reduce its reliance on cash and greatly improve safety for cannabis businesses, employees, and consumers. It will also increase transparency and help law enforcement deter and detect illegal operations." “Denying access to banking is making it harder to increase the diversity of the cannabis industry,” Steve Hawkins, executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project said. “Passing this legislation would provide resources for those with limited access to capital and increase the chances of success for state-level social equity initiatives. The SAFE Banking Act is a positive step in the right direction for cannabis policy reform in the United States, and its passage will improve the likelihood that other cannabis legislation will advance in Congress.” The U.S. Senate, on the other hand, where the bill is heading next, is a far more complicated political landscape for cannabis legislation like the SAFE Banking Act. Where the House bill gathered 206 co-sponsors, the Senate equivalent has gathered 33 as of September 24. Republicans hold a majority of the Senate’s 100 seats, who don’t typically support cannabis legislation reform. This bill will allow banks to feel safe banking the cannabis industry, while removing the risks that come along with running a cash based business, i.e. theft, loss, etc.

vacuum to the point of evaporation, and then cooled back into liquid, thus separating undesirable compounds from the purified end product. After all of the undesired materials are removed with Root Sciences’ stateof-the-art processes, what is left is the purest form of distillate possible, with some reported potencies exceeding 99% cannabinoid content. Just as Root Sciences’ wiped film molecular distillation technology changed the way edibles were manufactured back in 2016, they are once again disrupting the industry, working to launch the next revolutionary technology in edibles: cannabinoid nano-emulsification. What is a cannabinoid nanoemulsion? Emulsions are something we encounter every day, whether we realize it or not: milk, Italian dressing, and even many lotions are all emulsions. Oxford Dictionaries defines an emulsion as a fine dispersion of minute droplets of one liquid in another in which it is not soluble or miscible.

Root Sciences is the global leader in industrial extraction, distillation and postprocessing Equipment and support services, committed to revolutionizing the cannabis and hemp industries, and the way concentrates are produced. Root Sciences’

founders have been pioneering cannabis and hemp extraction and purification technologies for over a decade. For those who don’t know—distillate is a form of refined extract made by purifying a crude concentrate in a process comparable to distilling water. The product is heated under deep

Cannabis and hemp nano-emulsions boast many advantages over traditional extracts for use in the manufacturing process of THC and CBD infused edibles, beverages and topicals. Infused products created with Root Sciences’ nano-emulsions kick in faster provide a much faster uptake in the body than traditional edibles, delivering a stronger, purer and more precise dosage. A

much cleaner taste is also a huge benefit. This is due to the proprietary encapsulation and micronization technologies at the heart of nano-emulsification, which vastly increase the bioavailability of the active ingredients, cannabinoids. Imagine a bottle of vinaigrette and how, after you shake it, the oil slowly separates from the vinegar. Similarly, cannabinoids are hydrophobic compounds, meaning that they will not dissolve in water, and will separate if mixed. The more you mix an emulsion, the smaller the droplets of oil will become – to an extent, of course. After mixing, the small droplets will slowly merge, until the two liquids completely separate. In general, the smaller the droplets become, the longer this process will take. To help stabilize an emulsion, frequently surfaceactive substances (called surfactants or emulsifiers) are added, which form a protective shell around the dispersed oil droplets. The surfactants not only help to prevent the coalescence or merging of oil droplets, but actually help to make the droplets smaller as well. Root Sciences’ process also incorporates a proprietary blend of emulsifiers, which have

What is Bioavailability? Bioavailability is a measure of how much and how quickly a substance is delivered to its receptor and is thus able to have an effect. In essence, it describes how efficiently

your body can absorb an active ingredient. Depending on the type of infused product, bioavailability of traditional formulations can be as low as 4%, but by taking advantage of nano-emulsion technology, infused products can achieve a bioavailability as high as 90%. This means that onset time is measured in minutes, not hours, and the same dosage will produce a more pronounced effect. The enhanced bioavailability of Root Sciences nano-emulsions is a direct result of the proprietary blend of surfactants and the extraordinarily small average particle size achieved through their process. The pharmaceutical industry has been using similar technology for decades to increase bioavailability rates in medicine and now, thanks to Root Sciences, this technology is making its debut in the cannabis industry. What is an adsorption curve? In pharmacokinetics, adsorption refers to the movement of an active substance into the bloodstream.

EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

This results in a groggy feeling the next day, which can be uncomfortable and undesirable. A poor adsorption curve can be disadvantageous for many reasons, most notably because it makes the experience of the end user unpredictable and highly variable. It can also cause increased first-pass metabolism of THC by the liver, leading to the formation of excessive amounts of 11-OH-THC, a metabolite of THC that is 4-5x more psychoactive than THC and is often attributed to anxiety and nausea after consuming an edible. Edibles created with a cannabis nanoemulsion have a much higher bioavailability, resulting in a narrower adsorption curve. This means that it takes less time to feel the onset of the edible, and that the user has a cleaner, more enjoyable experience, with less undesirable after-effects the next day. Because the adsorption

rate is so much higher than conventional edibles, a smaller dose of cannabinoids will feel like a significantly higher dose of a traditional edible.

What is the Take-a-Way? Root Sciences originally made a name for themselves back in 2016 when they revolutionized cannabis distillation technology. Today, they continue to push boundaries with the latest release in their equipment line, cannabinoid nano-emulsification technology. Nano-cannabinoid edibles are superior in a number of areas: 1. It’s easier to incorporate them into the formulation of edibles. 2. They possess a higher degree of bioavailability and a greater therapeutic effect. 3. The human body absorbs active ingredients faster and more predictably. 4. Only a fraction of the

been optimized to allow the distillate to truly transform into an incredibly stable emulsion instead of something that would eventually separate again, just as oil and vinegar do. The dispersed oil droplets in the emulsion are then micronized (reduced in size) to less than 1/1000th the thickness of a human hair. This is accomplished by the efficient application of highpressure energy to force the emulsion through a specifically engineered homogenizing valve under high-shear conditions. These forces cause the oil particulates to break apart into the smallest size possible by any technique, down into the nanometer range.

Once in the bloodstream, the substance is delivered to its target receptor, where it can create an effect. You can think of an adsorption curve as describing how high you feel over time after consuming cannabis. With traditional edible formulations, adsorption curves, like bioavailability, can vary widely. Some edibles with poor bioavailability can cause very slow uptake of THC, meaning the customer will actually continue to absorb THC even over twelve hours after ingesting the product.

COVER STORY conventional dosing is required in manufacturing. Nano-emulsified cannabinoids greatly improve the homogeneity of cannabinoid content within each batch of edibles produced, meaning that cannabinoids are evenly dispersed across the entire edible, and not simply coating the surface. This results in more accurate dosing of edibles, improving the quality and consistency of the user experience. Traditionally, formulating products with cannabinoid concentrates were challenging because they were viscous, hydrophobic substances, which are incompatible with water. Poor water solubility results in low bioavailability, which means consumers need higher doses than would otherwise be necessary.

edibles that come on faster and require less active ingredient for an equivalent dose, improving user experience and decreasing costs. For those of us that like to eat edibles, this means we can spend less on a smaller amount and still The result is higher potency get the same effect. Root sciences has the means to produce edibles that are exponentially more than three times as effective at a fraction of the price… most would agree: That’s a pretty big game changer.

FBI Probes for Tips in Cannabis Industry Licensing Corruption B. Le Grand

The FBI is looking into potential corruption in the business licensing process of state-legal marijuana programs, particularly in the West Coast markets. In a 72-second podcast with no additional details, the FBI stated they were looking for tips to help them investigate. Western markets were identified as one problem spot, but allegations over the years have spanned from California to Michigan to Arkansas. “As an increasing number of states change their marijuana legislation, the FBI is seeing a public corruption threat emerge in the expanding cannabis industry,” FBI spokeswoman Mollie Halpern said on the podcast released by the FBI on Thursday. “States require licenses to grow and sell the drug – opening the possibility for public officials to become susceptible to bribes in exchange for those licenses.” She asked listeners to contact local FBI field offices if they suspect either a dispensary is operating illegally or if they suspect public corruption exists in their local cannabis industry. Supervisory Special Agent Regino Chavez added that the FBI has learned of some cannabis business licenses being sold for as much as $500,000, an indicator of how much of a corrupting influence license caps can have for the new market. And FBI Intelligence Analyst David Kirschner said the issue won’t be disappearing anytime soon. What they’ve seen and are looking for, is the possibility of corruption and pay-toplay situations in the awarding of commercial cannabis business licenses. Corruption has been an ongoing obstacle in California. Municipal jurisdictions like Huntington Park, Adelanto, Cudahy and Lynwood have all been accused of corruption or bribery. Some welcome the help from the FBI to prevent the corruption from continuing, while others are concerned that without descheduling cannabis, the Feds involvement is another trap for the legal cannabis. Gene Simmons Parts Ways with Invictus MD Strategies

B. Le Grand

Just as soon as he started, he quit. Invictus MD Strategies Corp. announced in August 2019 that Gene Simmons will no longer serve as Chief Evangelist Officer for Invictus. According to the press release, Simmons abdicated himself from the position. He received criticism of his participation in prior anti-drug campaigns. “It has been a pleasure to work with Gene. He has been a valuable asset to the company,” President and Chief Executive Officer of Invictus Trevor Dixon stated. “Gene has pledged his ongoing support of the Company, its leadership and its new direction.” Last March, Simmons announced he would provide marketing counsel to the company and serve as a spokesperson. Simmons has become known for his extensive marketing experience, with KISS merchandise sales rivaling that of Elvis and The Beatles. For most of Simmons’ career, he was consistently anti-drug. There was a notable cringe-worthy anti-drug public service announcement he made in the 80s. “You want to believe in something? How about yourself,” he said in the ad. His son, however, wrote an op-ed for VICE defending the use of cannabis and other drugs. The rock musician will still continue to invest in the company indirectly. “I have enjoyed my time with Invictus,” Simmons said. “I remain a big fan!” Issue 58 I Page 26

CORPORATE CANNABIS

Ep. 2 Smoke Screen: The Dark Ugly Underside of Corporate Cannabis This is a regular series of articles intended to be chapters in a compilation story book of lessons to learn from Corporate Cannabis. Names have been changed to protect the guilty (and the innocent). Our second story in our corporate cannabis series is about a very well-known company that is licensed in 3 states. The founders took on funding from the adult industry and created a vape company that was at one time valued at $40 million. They paved the way for high-quality vape cartridges with no cut or additives.

Edibles Magazine™ Issue 58

They were so popular and in-demand that they ended up partnering with some of the biggest names in the cannabis industry. Then the corporate investors decided they wanted to take control and steer the company. This involved throwing some rather ridiculous parties and pursuing unrealistic celebrity endorsements and product placement deals that went absolutely nowhere, except maybe backwards.

28

Neptitism quickly became another problem, when the son of the investor was given job responsibilities and decision making power he was not qualified for. Unuseable packaging was purchased that cost thousands of dollars because some people involved had no clue what they were doing but their dad thought they needed a job. The power struggle was not worth it to the founders, and they left the company so that they could be free from corporate nonsense.

Once the founders left, the decision was made to purchase dirty distillate instead of making their own clean oil. More and more decisions became solely based on cost efficiency. Their popularity declined and eventually they ceased operations in one of their biggest markets. They later (quite recently) sold for half their previous valuation in cash and shares, only to become another brand scooped up in a public holding corporation’s assets. There are a lot of lessons to be learned here. Some of them should be obvious but when you have a great idea, are running out of time and need funding, it’s hard to say no when that savior investor shows up willing to write that check you so desperately need to make your incredible idea into a reality, but we see it happen again and again, all the time, to all kinds of really nice, hard working people in the industry. Do a Google search at the very least and see what is being said about them online. Do they have DUIs? Are they being accused of ripping people off? Starting fights while on cocaine? Are they impossible to find info about? Are women accusing them of being creepy and inappropriate? You really want to know what kind of people you’re agreeing to get into business with because it all reflects on you, and affects your life and your money. Are they going to attempt a hostile takeover or straight up just steal from you? You’d be surprised at the lowlifes who see nothing but dollar signs in this world. Do your research and be careful who you get into bed with or you might wind up another cautionary tale, in The Smokescreen.

FDA Launches Criminal Investigation Into Vaping, Massachusetts Bans all Vapes for 4 Months, LA Considers Potentially Indefinite Cannabis Vape Ban

Edibles Magazine™ Issue 58

B. Le Grand

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently launched a criminal investigation into the vaping health crisis, putting added scrutiny to the state-legal cannabis industry and potentially exposing companies to federal legal action.

Prevention (CDC) stated: “Most patients have reported a history of using e-cigarette products containing THC. Many patients have reported using THC and nicotine. Some have reported the use of e-cigarette products containing only nicotine.”

“We’re very alarmed about products containing THC,” Mitch Zeller, director of FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products said. Zeller told reporters at a press conference that the focus of the criminal investigation is on the supply chain.

Many believe that the cannabis industry should be very concerned. Due to the lack of regulatory oversight in the supply chain it creates many potential risks for both the consumer and manufacturer.

Legal cannabis is also an easy target, since The number of people that have gotten sick on the black-market it is hard to pinpoint from vaping has risen to at least 530 in the where products are actually being made United States. Testing labs in legal states are not required to test for vitamin E oil, coconut honey cut, or propylene glycol, compounding the larger issue. Even with strict regulations, the industry isn’t there yet to combat the current vape crisis. Massachusetts Bans All Vapes As a result of the vaping health crisis, Massachusetts became the first state in the U.S. to issue a total ban on vapes for four months. It is an unfortunate reaction to a genuine public health concern. Banning the sale of legal vape products produced in a heavily regulated industry will only serve to drive consumers and medical patients to the illicit market, exacerbating these public health concerns rather than alleviating them. It indeed short-sighted, and undermines the benefits of legal regulation. Los Angeles Considers Potentially Indefinite Cannabis Vape Ban In light of the actions of Massachusetts regulators, Los Angeles city council pushed a recommendation letter September 24, demanding to consider a year long vape ban of all cannabis vape products. The letter cites the fact that the testing capabilities are not there to properly regulate vape additives. The recommendation also stated that the ban should remain in effect potentially indefinitely until the vape industry could properly be regulated. PRODUCT REVIEWS Tinley High Horse Spicy Ginger & Lime

CBD Living Freeze 250mg CBD Roll-On

Jack Paradise

Tommy Knowledge

Edibles Magazine™ Issue 58

High Horse Spicy Ginger and Lime Tonic is a non-alcoholic, single-serve version of a Moscow Mule. A Moscow mule is a cocktail made with vodka, spicy ginger beer, and lime juice, garnished with a slice or wedge of lime. Tinley is crafted with natural flavors and lime essence, at only 30 calories and 6g or less sugar per bottle. Each drink is infused with a Micro-Dose of premium Pineapple Jack sativa, for a full flower experience. Tinley uses nanoemulsion technology that allows for quick onset and a nice duration of approximately 2 hours. Non-alcoholic, vegan, and gluten-free, this is a great beverage for people who have dietary restrictions but still want to walk around a party sipping on something while catching a buzz. We met Tinley at WeedCOn West and then saw them again at the Cannabis Drinks Expo in South San Francisco a few months ago. I’ve always thought that cannabis beverages were going to make up a huge part of the market but there hasn’t been an overabundance of potent, delicious and well made THC beverages to choose from. Now that Tinley has a line of drinks available it should make it a lot easier.

42

You eliminate the hangover, dehydration, anger issues, belligerence, aggressive drunk dialing, and the dangerous falling down that can all be associated with alcohol and heavy drinking when you swap out for a cannabis infused drink. Sold in packs of 4 packs, Tinley drinks are ideal for taking to parties or sipping on when you Netflix and chill. Each bottle has 5 milligrams of THC so the dose is low, but drinking it hits you harder so try not to go crazy. To find out how to get Tinley drinks for yourself in the Bay Area, go to orderchill.com or call (510) 738-3510, or visit drinktinley.com.

The most immediately effective CBD topical I have tried in recent memory was CBD Living Freeze. It feels a lot like Icy Hot in the same extreme cooling menthol way and helps make all of the sore spots tingle until they’re numb and feeling better. CBD acts on the endocannabinoid system to reduce pain signals being sent by the brain and reduce localized inflammation. You can apply CBD Living Freeze directly to the affected area, allowing specific targeting of problematic areas. The Freeze is helpful for chronic pain, inflammation, sore joints and sore muscles. The easy to use roll-on applicator makes getting relief really simple without getting your hands greasy with freeze, and that’s a good thing because the last thing you want to do with this on your fingers is rub your eyes. I repeat: DO NOT rub your eyes! CBD Living Freeze is infused with a full 250mg of broad spectrum cannabidiol per 88mL bottle. CBD Living Freeze also incorporates other natural anti-inflammatories like Tea Tree Oil and Arnica. CBD Living Freeze is great for sore muscles, arthritis, chronic pain and stiffness. CBD freeze mimics the application of ice when applied, increasing the blood flow to affected areas. After kayaking recently I had sorer muscles and deep tissue pain than I think I’ve ever had before. This topical freeze helped immensely. As soon as the sunburn goes away I’ll need a massage but until then this is the best thing for it. The cooling breezy sensation is such intense relief from the pains, I think I’ll be using this product from now on. To order online for yourself, go to: www.cbdliving.com/product/cbd-living-freeze

Pharm Aide Pharms Flower: Blood Orange Kush + Skittles Flower Patrick Ian Moore

Pharm Aide Pharms has been one of my very favorite cultivators for almost three years now. I was first introduced to their product when they submitted their pre rolled joints for The Best of Edibles List Awards show in 2016. Immediately I was hooked and had a new favorite flower company. Pharm Aide won the awards for Best Hybrid Flower: 1st Place for their "Sunset Sherbet”, and for “Best Preroll” they took 2nd Place. In 2017 we distributed their product and in 2018 I visited their Colorado farm and did a really fun story about their growing process. Then, they sold the farm in California, sold the farm in Colorado and moved the entire family to Oklahoma. That means to get Pharm Aide Pharms flower you have to be in Oklahoma. Technically that’s quite an obstacle but nothing is impossible and I happen to be from Oklahoma, so we made it happen. We had a press booth at The Green on Greenwood Health and Wealth Cannabis Expo in downtown Tulsa at The Greenwood Cultural Center and guess who came? Pharm Aide Pharms. Finally we were able to legally obtain medical cannabis in Oklahoma from Pharm Aide Pharms. All it took was moving back and seeing a doctor at The Tulsa Higher Care Clinic.

missing this company for a long time. Nothing I’ve been smoking since has treated me as well. I seriously hadn’t gotten this high from flower alone for about 13 months, which was around when the last of our Pharm Aide ran out.It was beautiful to finally feel truly high again. I actually oversmoked and practically nodded off, but after a few cups of coffee I was ready for another blissful blunt. After another smoke I was in the backyard watching baby frogs hop around while I played with a promotional fidget spinner and listened to someone playing Bob Dylan covers on an acoustic guitar. Too much fun, it was almost surreal. For now, I guess it’s time to move back to California.

We tried a few strains, including Pineapple Upside Down Cake and Purple Panty Dropper, but the one we’re talking about here and now is Blood Orange Kush + Skittles. Now honestly, I’d been

The new Nano Vegan Gummies come in a few different flavors. I tried the Luscious Lemon Sativa and the taste was amazing, like lemon drops melting in lemonade with a twist of lemon and a lemon garnish. I started with three pieces and was feeling it in eight minutes. I had a couple more and it seemed to intensify immediately. NEW CANCER RESEARCH IN INDIA: CANNABINOIDS INHIBIT TUMOR GROWTH B. Le Grand

Emerging role of cannabinoids and synthetic cannabinoid receptor 1/ cannabinoid receptor 2 receptor agonists in cancer treatment and chemotherapy-associated cancer management

They researched how cannabis impacts different types of cancers, as well as how it helps to combat nausea, assist in stimulating appetites and provides pain relief. In addition to treating the side effects of chemotherapy, it also appeared to slow the growth of The official title of the study was: cancer cells in certain cases. EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

In layman’s terms, the takeaway from this study is: We always knew that cannabis makes you feel better when you feel bad, and cancer and chemo both make a person feel bad. Getting high eases pain when you’re hurting and makes you hungry when you’re feeling sick. Now we know it also is capable of genuinely curing cancer. No one can officially make those claims in the USA, so we’re just quoting the team of scientists in India. Thanks for doing this, Siddharth A Shah, Anand Shyamlal Gupta, and Piyush Kuma. Hopefully we’ll be doing that type of science here in America very soon. Everyone should be very excited about this. This is just another study that proves the benefits of cannabis. The study, published in the Journal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics, concludes that the legal status of cannabis should be changed, as cannabis components can inhibit tumor growth. The research was conducted at Amity University in India.

The study indicates that cannabinoids appear to exert activity that could lead to cell death in certain cancer cells. There was also “significant cell growth inhibition followed by apoptosis” in one certain cancer cell in a “study which was designed to evaluate the in vitro effects of endocannabinoids such as 2-arachidonoyl glycerol, anandamide, and its synthetic analog methazolamide.” Ad d i t i onal st ud i es p erformed on an immunodeficient mouse showed a notable reduction of subcutaneous tumor growth and lung metastasis of certain cells lines, when treated with tetrahydrocannabinol, prompting its significance as a novel therapeutic molecule in lung cancer treatment.

For years, the United States has been limited on the cannabis research allowed to take place due to it’s Schedule I status. However other countries are leading the way in finding the hard proof. Researchers have been exploring how cannabis can help fight cancer and using cannabis as a holistic treatment for all kinds of ailments, and why it works. A new study based in India, offers up more evidence of how cannabis can lower cancer cell growth and serve as a benefit to the medical field.

“Apart from exerting palliative effects, THC also shows promising role in the treatment of cancer growth, neurodegenerative diseases (multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease), and alcohol addiction and hence should be exploited for potential benefits,” the study declares.

Several members of Congress including Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky), Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine, above) and Rep. Jim Comey (R-Ky), along with 24 other members of Congress wrote a letter to the FDA calling for the agency to issue clarifying "enforcement discretion." The letter states, "The medical research conducted on CBD to date has shown limited health risks associated with low dosages of CBD." In the letter the pro-hemp group requested the FDA issue interim rules, suggesting approval for a "two-track regulatory approach could enable lower dosed products with limited health risks to enter the market as a dietary supplement, while requiring higher dosages in drugs, such as Epidiolex, to be prescribed by medical professionals." This approach would free the immediate marketplace of uncertainty, says the Congressional letter. It’s similar to the McConnell language which could see a full Senate vote before Thanksgiving. Glow Season 3 Brought the F*cking Pot… Daisy Dahlia

Sometimes cannabis use on television is silly and unrealistic. GLOW handles it well and makes it very believable. They do the same with drinking and cocaine. It always seems believable. When Sam says he “feels like he’s on acid” in season 3, you know exactly what he means and it’s a good line. Maybe it isn’t all that important to everyone, but a realistic and grounded depiction on screen of cannabis and hallucinogens means something to me. Instructing Arthie is especially believable and Sunita Mani’s deadpan stoned reactions are priceless. So far every season of GLOW has been better than the last, so I’m looking forward to getting high and re-binging all three while we wait for season 4. Also Season 3 has Geena Davis in it.

EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

Edibles Magazine™ Issue 58

I’m a big fan of “GLOW: The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling” on Netflix. It’s a funny, well-written show with a lot of heart and a great cast. The first two seasons were really good but I believe season 3 to be their best yet. Set in Las Vegas in 1986, it touches on a lot of topics including AIDs and The Challenger Disaster. The characters have settled into professional routines that allow for new adventures in their spare time, some being unique to Las Vegas casino living, that include compulsive gambling, mud wrestling, male prostitutes, drag shows, acting lessons, ballet, camping, and cannabis. There has always been a “more realistic than not” feel to GLOW when it comes to depictions of casual drug use. It’s the mid 1980s after all, so a lot of chain smoking and cocaine use is easy to believe. The characters also drink a lot, have sex a lot, and occasionally they smoke weed. It’s usually a joint, which was always how people were seen using cannabis in movies made in the 1980s. “Revenge of the Nerds”, “Footloose”, “9 to 5”, “Cheech and Chong’s Nice Dreams”, “The Wild Life”, “Repo Man”, “Revenge of The Nerds 2: Nerds in Paradise”, and Troma’s “The Toxic Avenger”, just to name a few that come to mind.

“Fast Times at Ridgemont High” also featured a joint, but Jeff Spicoli also used a water bong. I’d never seen one before, didn’t know what it was, didn’t know why it bubbled, and that logically brings us back around to GLOW Season 3, because they use a bong. A totally 80s, bright colored, plastic water bong with a carb and everything. Dawn Rivecca and Stacey Beswick, also known by their wrestling names: The Beatdown Biddies or The Toxic Twins: Nuke and Ozone, bring their bong and plenty of weed on a desert camping trip the girls go on as a bonding retreat. They teach Arthie Premkumar how to smoke a bong with help from Yolanda Rivas and it’s one of the best scenes ever, Melrose gets Dawn a new bong later in the season as part of a secret Santa gift exchange. On the campout when asked if “anyone brought a fucking pot?”, Dawn replies: “I brought fucking pot!”

Old Walmart in New Jersey to be Converted to a Cultivation Facility

B. Le Grand

An old vacant Walmart in New Jersey will soon be reborn as a thriving, medical cannabis production cultivation facility. Verano Holdings is planning to revamp the abandoned Walmart on Route 22 in central New Jersey. Verano already held a job fair to hire 100 people, all of which are desired to be local residents. They received a permit in 2018 from the Department of Health’s Division of Medical Marijuana to start a grow in central New Jersey, and a permit to open a dispensary in the city of Elizabeth. According to Verano Holdings, there won’t be any changes to the external appearance of the former Walmart building. Specialized grow lighting will be installed, and the floor will be stripped back down to concrete, but other than that, building will stay mostly unchanged. The Walmart that originally stood on the site closed in April 2018 due to financial issues. The store employed 143 people who were laid off in the process. The goal with this new facility is to provide more jobs to the community and contribute money toward maintenance of Route 22, while supplying the area with high-quality medical cannabis. New Jersey is on a path to cannabis reform, but it hasn’t been an easy one. Officials recently moved not to overturn prior cannabis convictions and though they may soon revisit fully legalizing cannabis or making changes to their medical program, nothing is set in stone yet. So for all of you that believe in abandoned Walmart conspiracy theories, not all old Walmarts are being used for detention centers. Issue 58 I Page 56

HIGH MOVIE REVIEW (cont'd)

Crazy Rich Asians Continued from PG 55

relate to these scenarios directly, as my mother was an immigrant that came to America to escape a life of martial law and communism where she was from. My grandmother had stories of having to swim through dead bodies in a sea stained red by blood, to get to the boat, filled with more dead bodies, as a 5 year old with her family escaping to Taiwan from the Chinese war. My grandparents immigrated after their children did, so I was lucky enough to have the memories of making dumplings as a family together. My Chinese grandparents didn’t speak any English so I had to learn broken Chinese to communicate with them, and everytime I would speak Chinese they would tell me how American my accent sounded. But even in my own Chinese family, I am half-white, and even being Americanborn like my cousins, I’m still looked at as different. Not only does Crazy Rich Asians accurately tackle Chinese culture, and the guilt and judgment that takes place within their own families, it shatters any stereotype or mold that Hughiearen’t Stonefish Asians marketable in a Romantic Comedy. I actually can’t remember the last time I paid to see a rom-com in the theaters. I usually try to spare my boyfriend and we’ll stream on Amazon or Netflix some rom-com that had been released earlier this year, and we’ll save the movies like superhero films for the big screen. There was something very special about this film, and it was beyond a great cast, good acting, it really had a great storyline that expanded beyond just a boy meets girl, and happy ending. They say the best movies are based on books, and this one comes in a 3 part series. We hope that they will get greenlight for the next two studio releases, and we hope this sets a new precedent on casting with representation. They also say there are no bad actors, just bad casting. Henry Golding plays handsome and charming, so believably well in his first movie role. Constance Wu plays a perfect “banana,” a term used in the film to reference her as “yellow on the outside and white on the inside.” Awkwafina plays the comic relief so well, I feel like everyone has a friend like her in their group they can relate to.

Edibles Magazine™ Issue 58

I don’t want to give too many spoilers, but its funny, it’s moving, it’s believable and takes place in a modern day setting that feels real to the viewer. It is just one culture tackled, and hopefully so many more to come. It feels like a special time in history for films like Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians to be made. In Crazy Rich Asians, you could replace Asians with black, Greeks, latino, white, etc. and it would still be relatable because the story is about identity, knowing who you are, tradition, approval from your family and following your heart. I read and heard other press interviews about the movie before I saw it, and the best way it’s been put but John Chu the director himself, by the end of the movie you don’t even notice you’re watching a film about Asians, you’re watching a great story. That’s why you should see it, it’s a great film, it’s making history, and you get to see the 1% of the 1% of the opulence in Asia. Issue 58 I Page 58
