LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Greetings my friends,

Lately it almost feels like we’ve been busier than ever. Since last month we’ve been to Oklahoma for The Green on Greenwood, Long Beach for NCIA, San Francisco for New West Summit, The Los Angeles Comic Con, Santa Monica for The Civilized Games, and Jamaica for The Grand Opening of Doc’s Place International. Next month we’ll be in Las Vegas for MJBIZCon and having another awesome party so maybe we’ll see you at that. Rob Van Dam and Ta Smallz will be there so there’s definitely going to be some good pictures.

Going to Jamaica was a transformative experience. We rode horses that swam in the ocean so it almost felt like riding a Pegasus. You can read all about Jamaica, Negril, Montego Bay, Doc’s Place, Patsy’s Coffeeshop, The Rastafari Indigenous Village, and all the food and cannabis that was consumed here in our travel issue. There’s also our list of the top seven cannabis hotels, bed and breakfasts, and travel/tourism destinations for infused adventurers. It’s a very magical place made even more magical with all of the great ganja they grow there. If you’ve been watching South Park lately than you know that Tegridy’ Farms has come to play a very big and very important role in the show. We couldn’t believe we heard them mention Med Men in an episode of South Park, and it was in a really negative context. They really manage to always have their finger on the pulse of whatever is actually happening out there and the skill that they were able to blend cannabis controversy with the new plant based burger craze happening at mainstream fast food restaurants is really impressive. It seems like Tegridy Burgers, the cannabis based vegan burgers Randy

Marsh creates, would actually sell quite well if they were real. One of our cannabis hotel destinations is in Denver, Colorado and they might always do a Tegrity Farms Pop Up there. At least we hope we can dream that they might. Infused Ital Stew Ingredients: 2 tbsp oil 2 medium carrots, chopped 3 whole stalks of scallions, with ends cut 3 cloves fresh garlic, about 2 tsp minced 1 tbsp minced or grated ginger 2 medium Idaho potatoes 2 cups fresh or frozen corn 1 green plantain 1 can red beans or black eyed peas 12 medium okra 6 cups water 2 cups low sodium vegetable broth

1 cup of unsweetened coconut milk 1 tbsp Cannabis infused margarine or vegan butter substitute Juice of 1/2 lime or lemon Dumplings: 1/2 cup all-purpose gluten free flour 1/4 tsp of baking powder 1/4 tsp sea salt 1/8 tsp black pepper 2 tsp cannabis infused oil 3-4 tbsp water Spices: 1 tsp ground allspice 12 stalks of fresh thyme or 1/8 tsp dried 2 1/2 tsp sea salt 1/2 tsp black pepper 1 small whole Scotch bonnet (habanero) pepper Directions: Heat a large soup pot on medium-low heat then add cannabis infused oil. Saute carrots, garlic, scallions and ginger for 5 minutes. Then add potatoes, corn, plantains and beans and saute for 3-5 minutes. Add all spices except Scotch bonnet and saute for 30 seconds. Add remaining ingredients and bring the soup to a boil, reduce to medium heat and simmer covered for 20 minutes. While the soup is coming to a boil, mix dumpling ingredients in a small bowl. Start with mixing the flour, baking powder, salt and pepper. Then add oil and 3 tablespoons of water. Do not over mix. Dough should be slightly dry. Add extra water if needed, 1 teaspoon at a time. When the soup is turned down to simmer, add dumplings 1 heaping teaspoon at a time. Remove Scotch bonnet, scallions and thyme stalks before serving.

The White House Approves USDA Hemp Production Rules B. le Grand

In October, the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approved the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) federal hemp production rules.

Originally called Xaymaca by its indigenous inhabitants, the Arawaks or Tainos from South America, Jamaica sits just above the equator, south of Cuba, in the Caribbean Sea. Less known is the fact that the pirate history in Jamaica was very real and helped shaped the Jamaica of today. Port Royal was once known as the "Wickedest City in the World". Captain Morgan was a real pirate that pillaged and plundered, then took back his booty to share and spend in the harbors and bays of Jamaica, along with many other notorious pirates, and the lesser known Jewish Pirates. Christopher Columbus landed in Discovery Bay in 1494. He soon took over the island claiming it for Spain, only to have Spain neglect the island nation. Britain took control in the 1600s until 1962 when Jamaica was granted their independence. If you're fascinated by pirates it is most definitely a place to see at least once in your life. Jamaica amasses a total of 4.240 square miles, with two major international airports, Montego Bay and Kingston. The island vibe and way of life is highly sought by tourists around the world and outside of the flight it's more affordable than a lot of other popular tropical island destinations. Clean, fresh air and the negative ions of the ocean shore breeze make it a naturally healing environment.

On the property, there are four large studio boutique hotel rooms, a seaside restaurant, a rooftop bar with a DJ, a yoga studio area, a massage area (all overlooking the ocean), a dispensary, a manufacturing and processing laboratory, and a garden plentiful with local Jamaican healing plants and herbs, all with medicinal benefits. Featured in the center of the property is a sea water infinity pool, not a salt water pool, a sea water pool that required special permission from the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA). They obtained a special permit and had to prove that by using and recirculating the sea water they weren't polluting or dumping in the ocean.

Miami Beach Bans Smoking Cannabis in Public

Since the decriminalization of hemp in Miami, many minor Marijuana charges have been dropped or will no longer be prosecuted. Though hemp has been decriminalized, public officials have taken to banning the use of cannabis and hemp in public, since hemp and cannabis are practically indistinguishable. The city has opted to make smoking cannabis in public a criminal offense rather than using a civil citation system, which could result in the arrests of more youth and people of color. The ACLU, among other organizations, opposed the new law because of its criminal charges, claiming it should be akin to a traffic ticket. According to Miami Beach Times, “Under the city's new law, anyone observed smoking cannabis, hemp, or marijuana on a public right-of-way is subject to a fine of up to $500 and up to 60 days in county jail.” Before this the Miami Beach police had no real precedent for dealing with public cannabis consumption. Citing a specific incident, "During Columbus Day weekend, we had an individual that chose to stand on top of a police vehicle while openly consuming marijuana," Miami Beach Capt. Daniel Morgalo stated. "So had that individual not been doing that — had he not been standing on top of the police vehicle and breaking other laws — we would not have a mechanism in place at this point to deal with this specific type of behavior." With Miami being such a party destination, it will be interesting to see how it unfolds (and whether or not they’d actually be able to enforce them) and how tourists will react to the new laws. Ingredients: 4 pounds cassava 2 teaspoons salt 2 tablespoons cannabis infused vegetable oil

Instructions: Peel and grate cassava. Place it in a muslin cloth, wring out and discard the juice. Add salt and 1 tablespoon of cannabis vegetable oil to the cassava flour and mix together. Heat fry pan over moderate heat. Place about 1 cup of the mixture on a shallow

fry pan greased with canna-vegetable oil. Press down on the mixture to flatten. A regular bammy should be at least (6") or 15 cm in diameter, or made according to desired size. When the edges shrinks slightly from the side of the pan, turn over and cook the other side. Each bammy should cook in 10 minutes. Repeat the process until all the bammies are made. Bammies may be stored in a cool dry place or freeze until needed. When bammies are ready to be used, soak them in milk or water for about 10 minutes.

Canna Coconut Toto Cake 12 ounces water 1 tablespoon vanilla 2 ounces cannabis infused margarine or butter, melted

Ingredients: 1 1/4 pounds baking flour 12 ounces brown sugar 1 packet Milk Powder 1 whole dry coconut, grated 1 ounces raisins, soaked 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 tablespoon mixed spice 2 large eggs

Instructions: Combine baking flour, brown sugar, Anchor Milk Powder, grated coconut, raisins, baking powder and mixed spice in a large bowl. Whisk eggs, add water, vanilla and melted cannabis infused butter or margarine. Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and add the liquid. Lightly mix until the liquid is absorbed. Scrape the batter out into a greased baking tin and put in to bake in a preheated oven 180°C (350°F) for about 30 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean. On one of our last days visiting Jamaica we had the extreme pleasure of visiting The Rastafari Indigenous Village. Located just outside Montego Bay, Rastafari Indigenous Village is a living cultural center that offers an opportunity to experience the Rastafari way of life. Whether you choose a half or full-day tour, you'll have the unique opportunity to connect with Rastafarians, and learn more about their culture and values. You'll be introduced to drum makers who create traditional drums by hand, using techniques that have been passed down through generations and you can tour an organic vegetable and herb garden and learn more about why the Rastafari choose to follow a vegan diet, and what the benefits are. The tour concludes with a performance of traditional drumming and singing in the center of the village. Drumming and chanting ceremonies are an important ritual in the elevation to the spiritual world of Rastafari. The Rastafari village was created 10 years ago as a cultural sharing center, healing ground, and sanctuary.

Technically speaking, Rastafari is a religious movement of Jamaican origin holding that blacks are the chosen people, that Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia was the Messiah, and that black people will eventually return to their Africa. Rastafarians have distinctive codes of behavior and dress, including the wearing of dreadlocks, the smoking of cannabis, the rejection of Western medicine, and adherence to a diet that excludes pork, shellfish, and milk.

Arguably the best-known Rastafari is the late Bob Marley. Ganja soaked in rum and then used in tea is another traditional Jamaican cure-all. This special mixture fixes anything from headaches to bellyaches and some swear it also relieves cancer pains. We also picked up some Ganja soap that happens to be some of the best soap we’ve ever used. This is a one of a kind experience that we cannot recommend enough. Bernie Sanders Pledges to Legalize Cannabis via an Executive Order if Elected Lynn Young

With the 2020 elections coming up, Cannabis is a big factor in how candidates are framing their campaigns.

Bernie Sanders (VT) is leading the pack when it comes to cannabis legislation. He recently revealed that he plans to legalize cannabis via Executive Order. On Oct 24, at 4:20pm the senator released his extensive plans for the cannabis industry in order to keep it localized and diverse. Sanders tweeted: “Too many lives were ruined due to the disastrous criminalization of marijuana. Today I am releasing my plan to: Legalize marijuana with executive action, expunge past marijuana convictions, [and] invest in communities most affected by the War on Drugs.” Many cities and states throughout the nation have attempted to create a fair and diverse industry, but the public has yet to see the positive impacts of these programs. Sen. Sanders has always been active in pushing Cannabis legislation and in 2015 was the first to introduce a bill to the senate for the legalization of Cannabis. He also sponsored a bill with fellow

Democratic candidate and Senator Cory Booker (NJ) to declassify cannabis as a schedule 1 drug in 2017 and re-introduced the bill in the House of Rep. this past February. Though most of the present democratic candidates are for the legalization of cannabis, save former Vice President Joe Biden, Sanders is the only dem with a detailed

Most of his plan involves reversing the impacts of the War on drugs in communities of color (primarily AfricanA m e r i c a n / B l a c k communities), and ensuring that those communities have access to resources that allow them to participate in the industry. His plan also involves structuring Cannabis companies like nonprofits in order to avoid the corruption and influence of the tobacco industry. Within the current industry, it is nearly impossible to start or maintain and cannabis business because of high costs, investor strong arming, and severe lack of banking solutions. Sanders’ plan addresses these issues and creates serious groundwork for national legalization. If he can fully follow through with his plan, he’ll be creating a more equitable industry that allows small business owners and people of color to participate and succeed.

In 2018, the World Health Organization released a 28 page report on CBD (cannabidiol). The general summary of the report was that CBD had no adverse side effects and is regarded as “generally safe.” They also concluded that there was do dependence or abuse potential with the use of CBD. Below is an excerpt of the report: 6. Adverse Reactions in Humans As noted above, CBD does not produce the effects that are typically seen with cannabinoids such as THC. It also failed to produce significant effects in a human 14 study of abuse potential discussed below. [34] Across a number of controlled and open label trials CBD of the potential therapeutic effects of CBD it is generally well 15 tolerated, with a good safety profile. [39, 53] Clinical trials involving use of CBD for treatment of epilepsy will be discussed in Section 9: Therapeutic Applications. 7. Dependence Potential A. Animal Studies Male mice were injected i.p. once a day for 14 days with either CBD (0.1, 1, or 3mg/kg) or delta-9-THC (1, 3, or 10mg/kg). Tolerance to the effects of THC was observed, however no tolerance to CBD at any of the dosages was observed. [54] No studies of the physical dependence potential of CBD in animals were identified. B. Human Studies Controlled, human studies regarding the potential physical dependence effects (e.g. withdrawal and tolerance) of cannabidiol

have not been reported. 8. Abuse Potential A. Animal Studies In male Sprague-Dawley rats, administration of low dose (5 mg/kg) CBD did not change the threshold frequency required for intracranial self-stimulation (ICSS). However, high dose (10 mg/kg and 20 mg/kg) CBD resulted in an elevation of the threshold suggestive of diminished reward activity. This effect is opposite to that of drugs of abuse such as cocaine, methamphetamine and opioids which lower the threshold. [55] Increased dopamine release in cells of the mesolimbic ventral tegmental area – nucleus accumbens pathway is a common effect characteristic of almost all drugs of abuse. While THC has been shown to increase the firing rate of these cells, cannabidiol had no effect. [56] It appears that CBD given alone has little effect on conditioned place preference (CPP). For example, Long-Evans rats treated with 10 mg/kg CBD showed neither CPP nor CPA. [57] However, rats treated with increasing doses of CBD and THC (1, 3, and 10 mg/kg) exhibited a trend towards CPP not seen in those given THC alone. [58] The authors attributed this to a pharmacokinetic interaction leading to higher THC concentrations rather than a change in receptor action. CBD appears not to exhibit THC-like discriminative stimulus effects. For example, in rats trained to discriminate THC from vehicle, CBD did not substitute for THC at any dose tested [57]. CBD also failed to substitute for THC in pigeons trained to

discriminate THC from vehicle. [59] B. Human Studies While the number of studies is limited, the evidence from well controlled human experimental research indicates that CBD is not associated with abuse potential. 16 Single dose administration of cannabidiol has been evaluated in healthy volunteers using a variety of tests of abuse potential as well as physiological effects in a randomised double blind placebo-controlled trial. [34] An orally administered dose of 600mg of CBD did not differ from placebo on the scales of the Addiction Research Centre Inventory, a 16 item Visual Analogue Mood Scale, subjective level of intoxication or psychotic symptoms. In contrast, THC (10mg oral) administration was associated with subjective intoxication and euphoria as well as changes in ARCI scales reflecting sedation and hallucinogenic activity. THC also increased psychotic symptoms and anxiety. While THC increased heart rate, CBD had no physiological effects.

The authors of the study then undertook a second analysis of this data to examine the abuse liability profile of oral cannabidiol in comparison to oral placebo and active smoked cannabis. The results of this analysis demonstrated that CBD was placebo-like on all measures (including visual analogue scales, psychomotor performance such as the digit symbol substitution task, heart rate and blood pressure) compared to active cannabis, which produced abuse related subjective effects as well as a range of other effects. A randomized, double-blind, within-subject laboratory study was undertaken to assess the influence of CBD (0, 200, 400, 800mg, p.o.) pre-treatment on the effects of inactive (0.01% THC) and active (5.30–5.80% THC) smoked cannabis. Healthy cannabis smokers (n=31) completed eight outpatient sessions with CBD administered 90min prior to cannabis administration. Under placebo CBD conditions, active cannabis was self-administered by significantly more participants and produced significant, time-dependent increases in subjective ratings and heart rate relative to inactive cannabis. CBD alone produced no significant psychoactive, cardiovascular or other effects. Cannabis self-administration, subjective effects, and cannabis ratings did not vary as a function of CBD dose relative to placebo capsules. These findings suggest that oral CBD does not reduce the reinforcing, physiological, or positive subjective effects of smoked cannabis. [60]

Zombieland Double Tap: Cannabis Friendly Zom Com

The original Zombieland was released 10 years ago in 2009, back when the world was a much different place. The first episode of the first season of The Walking Dead on AMC was still a full year away. Jesse Eisenberg's performance as Mark Zuckerberg wouldn't be seen for another year either. Little Miss Sunshine was only a three year old movie and Emma Stone’s highest profile role at the time was “Superbad” and it would be 8 more years before she won an Oscar for La-La Land. Obama had only been president for a year at the time and cannabis in California was still very much medical. Donald Trump was still hosting The Apprentice, which was in season 8. Yes, it was a very different time and a different place to be alive but Zombieland was a hell of a movie. Beloved by both the comedy and the horror community, it was like an all American, steroid fuelled “Shaun of the Dead’ featuring Woody Harrelson, considered by many to be ‘stoner royalty’, in what may be his best role ever. Making a sequel a full 10 years later was risky, despite almost everything in theaters being a sequel, remake, or part of a franchise. I don’t remember ever thinking about a Zombieland sequel. Were there unanswered questions from the first one? Sure there were but I’d never really thought about that. I loved the first movie but hadn’t seen it since it was new. When they did announce the sequel we all got excited. The original cast was back in full force and

they added some new comedically gifted performers like Zoey Deutch, Luke Wilson, Thomas Middleditch and Rosario Dawson. It’s safe to say that if you liked the first one, you’ll like Doubletap too. It’s got everything good about the original but more of it. More guns, gore, zombies and comedy. It also has something the first film didn’t feature and that’s cannabis. Cannabis always seems like it belongs in a Woody Harrelson movie and it’s good to know they can grow good weed in the post apocalyptic wasteland even if it isn’t explained how they do it. It’s good to see people on screen with giant bags and bowls of ganja instead of just little kush bottles. We ate Oasis cannabis gummies and paired them with Budease infused tincture so we’d have some good time release effects happening as we sat and watched the movie. We still find edibles ideal for the movies for the same reason we do airplanes. You’re stuck sitting for a long time and you can’t smoke but you need to be high to get through the flight or the film. If you haven’t seen the first Zombieland, watch it before you see Double Tap. We were going to re-watch it but never got around to it but it was fine anyway. The original was easy enough to remember and the cast hadn’t lost a step. Everyone was even funnier than before, especially Woody Harrelson. It’s ironically enjoyable to see Woody playing a hippy hating antipacifist gun lover and he plays the role incredibly well. This was the best movie I’ve seen in a while and is definitely one of my very favorite sequels I never knew I wanted in my life. See it while it’s still playing or watch it once it’s streaming and don’t forget to be nice and high for it. This was the third year in a row The Edibles Magazine team had a booth and did a panel at The Los Angeles Comic Book Convention. This year we were once again selling rolling trays, silicone and glass pipes and bongs, cannabis themed baseball hats and it was better than ever. We had a full staff this year so doing our special Cannabis panel was easier than in years past. Returning panel guests from last year included rapper Ta Smallz and artist Richard Bell, and we welcomed first time guest Brett Carreras to The Edibles Magazine panel. Brett is the creator of The Virginia Comic Con and is one of the nation’s leading experts on comic books and it was great having him there.It was also great having Edibles Magazine creator B. Le Grand back on the panel this year. We discussed a lot of cannabis in pop culture topics and and realized there are no hip-hop songs about CBD. There are more people who attend our panel every year so it’s nice to be experiencing exponential growth that way. LACC is one of the biggest events we attend with over 100,000 guests coming every year, so it’s extra cool being the only cannabis company there. This year we brought Speed Weed with us so if people really wanted to order cannabis or infused products they could go through them and pick them up right off site. We even had some special LA Comic Con promotions that featured products by The Mystery Baking Company and Budease. It was a pretty special service to be offering. We’re already getting excited about next year and hopefully we can find some other comic cons to set up our booth at between now and then.Watching all of the mind-blowing costumes is the highlight every time. You never know what character might walk by next, might be Batman or it might be Mario, but regardless of who there’s a strong chance they might want to buy a Deadpool bong or a Family Guy rolling tray and that’s why we go back and have so much fun every year. relate to these scenarios directly, as my mother was an immigrant that came to America to escape a life of martial law and communism where she was from. My grandmother had stories of having to swim through dead bodies in a sea stained red by blood, to get to the boat, filled with more dead bodies, as a 5 year old with her family escaping to Taiwan from the Chinese war. My grandparents immigrated after their children did, so I was lucky enough to have the memories of making dumplings as a family together. My Chinese grandparents didn’t speak any English so I had to learn broken Chinese to communicate with them, and everytime I would speak Chinese they would tell me how American my accent sounded. But even in my own Chinese family, I am half-white, and even being Americanborn like my cousins, I’m still looked at as different. Not only does Crazy Rich Asians accurately tackle Chinese culture, and the guilt and judgment that takes place within their own families, it shatters any stereotype or mold that Hughiearen’t Stonefish Asians marketable in a Romantic Comedy. I actually can’t remember the last time I paid to see a rom-com in the theaters. I usually try to spare my boyfriend and we’ll stream on Amazon or Netflix some rom-com that had been released earlier this year, and we’ll save the movies like superhero films for the big screen. There was something very special about this film, and it was beyond a great cast, good acting, it really had a great storyline that expanded beyond just a boy meets girl, and happy ending. They say the best movies are based on books, and this one comes in a 3 part series. We hope that they will get greenlight for the next two studio releases, and we hope this sets a new precedent on casting with representation. They also say there are no bad actors, just bad casting. Henry Golding plays handsome and charming, so believably well in his first movie role. Constance Wu plays a perfect “banana,” a term used in the film to reference her as “yellow on the outside and white on the inside.” Awkwafina plays the comic relief so well, I feel like everyone has a friend like her in their group they can relate to. I don’t want to give too many spoilers, but its funny, it’s moving, it’s believable and takes place in a modern day setting that feels real to the viewer. It is just one culture tackled, and hopefully so many more to come. It feels like a special time in history for films like Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians to be made. In Crazy Rich Asians, you could replace Asians with black, Greeks, latino, white, etc. and it would still be relatable because the story is about identity, knowing who you are, tradition, approval from your family and following your heart. I read and heard other press interviews about the movie before I saw it, and the best way it’s been put but John Chu the director himself, by the end of the movie you don’t even notice you’re watching a film about Asians, you’re watching a great story. That’s why you should see it, it’s a great film, it’s making history, and you get to see the 1% of the 1% of the opulence in Asia. Issue 59 I Page 58
