Welcome! Lori’s Favorite Fall Features! E What to do on those Late Start/Early Release dates this Fall? We have a solution!!! Edina

Community Education Youth Programs have partnered with Edina Public Schools to provide 2-hour enrichment activities on Oct 30 and Dec 11 in each site. Our hope is that the availability of supervised, affordable activities will help create a smooth transition for parents and students on those dates. Info will be provided at open houses, on our website or see page 4 for details. E We heard it from you! After polling families this spring we discovered that

Lori Murphy, Youth Enrichment Manager

most of you prefer a more formal style of language acquisition for your child. We have revamped our Spanish program so lessons are now more structured and kids can advance through at least 2 levels per year. See page 24 for more details. E I am super excited about a new program the Adult Education and Youth

Programs are collaborating on this year…it is called “Passport to Edina Community Education”. We have developed a collection of classes that explore different countries through language, crafts, fitness, food and social customs. Most are great for families to attend together. Best of all, you will have a great time filling up a Community Ed Passport with stamps from your “trips”. See page 31 for details. E As always, if you have questions or comments about any of our programs, our

fabulous staff will be happy to help you anytime! Enjoy the fall season!

Passport p

to Community Education Will there really be passports?

The mission of Edina Public Schools is to educate lifelong learners with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing, culturally diverse, global society.

Yes! For those who are interested, we will offer printed passports and stamps for qualifying classes. We’ll feature families and individuals who complete their passport in upcoming Edina Community Education publications. Call 952-858-3952, visit www. edinaschools.org/passport or stop by the Edina Community Education office to learn more and receive your passport.

Edina Community Education offers opportunities for families and individuals to explore global culture right here in the Edina Community Center. Of course, you won’t get to know a complex country with just one class. But we think that if you make time to telescope down and explore one small element of a country— from dumplings to tamales, from salsa and masala bhangra to yoga to tai chi—you can continue to develop your own kaleidoscopic understanding of our endlessly fascinating, colorfully connected world.
