Fundamental Aquatic Skills Children will practice basic water safety, underwater swimming and swimming while using a combined stroke on front and back. Prerequisite: Passed Level 1 or can float independently on their front and back, and swimming on their front and back using arm and leg actions.

Aquatics – All Ages Level 3B

Stroke Development Because Level 3 is a difficult level to pass, we added another class for students who have taken Level 3 more than 2 sessions. Level 3B students will be more experienced than those in Level 3. Focus is on endurance and stroke refinement. Prerequisite: Must have taken Level 3 for 2 or more sessions, be totally comfortable in deep water, able to dive, able to do front and back crawl.

Stroke Refinement Child will gain endurance by swimming for increased distances, coordinate and refine sidestroke, butterfly and breaststroke and build on water safety skills. Prerequisite: Passed Level 4 or can swim front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke the whole length of the pool, the start of breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly.

Swimming and Skill Proficiency Refines the strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Focus is on personal water safety, lifeguard readiness, diving and fitness swimming. Competitive Diving

Diving classes focus on basic diving skills, diving safety, diving on the diving board with proper techniques, flexibility and fun. Geared toward the beginner diver who has had little or no instruction. Prerequisites: must be at least 7 years old and confident in deep water. Classes cannot be pro-rated.

This class is geared toward students with some diving experience. Prerequisites: Must be at least 9 years old or recommended by instructor and able to do dives in 3 different directions (front, back, reverse, inward, twisting) Classes cannot be pro-rated.

This class is geared toward divers with some competitive diving experience (high school varsity/Junior Varsity, or age group). Prerequisites: Eleven years and under should be able to do 5 dives, 13 years and under should be able to do 7 dives, and 14 years and older should be able to do 8 dives. Classes cannot be pro-rated.

Edina Children’s Choir These choir clinics are for kids who love to perform in a musical setting. The Prep Choir is for younger children who would like to advance to Do Re Mi Singers in Grade 2. Chorale is the next step for Grades 4-5 and Concert Choir is for Grades 6-9. Learning proper vocal technique for healthy singing, dancing and playing various instruments are all part of this musical experience. Taught by Jim Hawthorne, EPS Music Specialist

Join Science Explorers for experiments that are icky, sticky and sloppy. You will explore the properties of a polymer by making different slimes, including a slime that will glow in the dark that you will take home. This class is more than hands-on; it’s hands in! Come prepared to have fun and get messy.

Stretch your brain with logic-based games and puzzles. We’ll play chess, checkers, Connect Four, Rush Hour, Master Mind, Sudoku, Rubik’s Cube, Towers of Hanoi, Oslik, and much more. Don’t know how to play these? I’ll teach you! These mind-challenging games can help develop spatial reasoning, critical thinking, and strategy. More importantly, they’re fun. Check it out! Middle School – Grades 6-9 Driver Education Classroom Instruction and Behind the Wheel Classroom training is 30 hours and is offered in the evenings or after school. Each lesson is independent and can be taken in any order. If a lesson is missed, a student can make it up when it is convenient for them and finish at their own pace. Behind-the-wheel training consists of six hours of oneon-one private instruction with a responsible, professional driving instructor. Lessons are two hour sessions and include pick-up and drop-off from home, work or school. Training is done on actual city streets and highways. The Music Link: After School Piano Lessons Thirty minute piano lessons are available after school at all Edina elementary sites.
