Each instrument in the string quartet can either be amplified and mixed with the tape part or performed acoustically. The tape part is supposed to be started by a person, sound engineer or another person capable of such as well as reading a score. The cues for starting each soundfile are notated in the score. Three quartertones down. ”Cello-key”. Used to illustrate where on the instrument the bow or finger should be placed. If no specific information is given it's supposed to played with the bow. The small square at the top is the tallpiece. The horisontal line below is the bridge and the large square is the fingerboard. The two horisontal lines going through the fingerboard are the staff lines.
Play with the woodside of the bow on the bridge.
Damp the strings with the hand in order to avoid any clear pitch to be heard.
Open strings-sign used after a damping-sign.
Play at the side of the bridge in order to avoid the strings. Only a ”s-like” sound should occur.
Quatertone up.
Play with the woodside of the bow just in the middle between the fingerboard and the Three quartertones up.
Quartertone down.

Scratch tone with medium bow pressure between the bridge and the fingerboard. The strings are damped.
Scratch tone with a little more bow pressure than the last ex. but played indicated string(s) behind the bridge. The effect should be a screaming sound.

Play on the string at the point where the string touches the bridge while moving the finger up and down on the string. By playing a fast tremolo a very silent and fragile sound should occur. If this doesn't work play as close to the bridge as possible.
Scratch tone with maximum bow pressure. Play with the woodside of the bow in fast movements in the indicated direction. Although the strings are supposed to be damped completely a little change in the pitch must be heard.
Drag/push the bow from a position between the bridge and the fingerboard in the direction of the nut in the notated rythm. In order to produce as much friction as possible it should
