NOTE

Entrée was composed as the opening piece for a portrait concert with music by Axel Borup-Jørgensen on 16 July 1997. The concert took place in the Round Tower Concert Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark, and featured a group of Axel Borup-Jørgensen’s long time collaborators, guitarists Maria Camitz, Lars Henning Jensen, Leif Hesselberg (Guitar Trio 1 + 2), Karl Petersen and Per Dybro Sørensen, as well as soprano Marianne Lund. Several of these musicians have been consulted during the making of the present edition, especially regarding different playing techniques and notations.

The program consisted almost entirely of already written material – Für gitarre, op. 86, Sange for sopran og guitar, op. 104, Morceaux, op. 73, Poésies pour la dame à la licorne, op. 121, Praeambula, op. 72, Gammelkinesiske digte, op. 103:1 and Peripeti, op. 145:3 –and Axel Borup-Jørgensen composed Entrée in a way that it included small quotations from all of these works.

The first half of the concert was performed as one single piece with Axel BorupJørgensen linking the different works with small interludes composed especially for this event, and this also explains the use of scordatura in 4 of the 5 guitars. Working with people that he knew and trusted was very important to Axel Borup-Jørgensen, and the original handwritten score for Entrée is a testament to that. Instead of numbers, the different parts have the names of the guitarists: Karl, Per, Leif, Lars and Maria.
