The changing world of shapewear Sculpting underwear (shapewear), the latest development in terms of supportive underwear, is a segment that is seeing incredible growth, both in terms of sales volumes and interest on the part of women shoppers. According to the results of a recent market survey (Strategic Insights. Global Consumer Shapewear Study), commissioned by Invista and carried out on an international level, involving some 1,133 women in the United States, Brazil, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, and presented in Paris at Mode City, almost all the women interviewed (93%) stated that when they purchase underwear they carefully appraise its shaping properties. // FOCUS ON // inVisTa‘s research The results of the international research commissioned by Invista demonstrate that the Lycra beauty fabric label represents an effective tool for communicating an item’s quality, comfort and the performance features of the garments associated with it. 88% of those interviewed believe that a shaping garment bearing the Lycra beauty fabric label is of the best quality. 86% of them feel that the Lycra beauty fabric provides a sense of reassurance at the time of purchase. More than 80% of the women believe that a garment flourishing the Lycra beauty fabric will be comfortable (fully 92%), lightweight and distinguished by reduced volume (90%), look good when worn (88%), move comfortably with the body (88%), and show off the figure (88%). The women shoppers who were presented with the concept of the Lycra beauty fabrics provided very positive responses. 83% of them consider the idea to be innovative, while 75% of them are convinced that an underwear item made with Lycra beauty fabrics is preferable to one made with other fabrics. The position reaction to this concept translates into a declaration of willingness to pay a higher price in order to purchase the product. 75% of the women said they were willing to pay a higher price for a garment made from Lycra beauty fabrics than they would for another garment.

Magic Curve, bearing the Lycra beauty seal, provides an exceptional sense of comfort and a perfect silhouette. In addition, the use of polyamide 6.6 guarantees excellent color stability and outstanding resistance to high temperatures. Dogi The great quality and high levels of innovation that have always been hallmarks of all Dogi products are reflected in the project that the company is carrying out in the field of shapewear, called Dogitech. The selection depends on the application requirements and the type of fabric being used. Control garments with panels that are „bonded“, not sewn, are becoming very popular. Eliminating stitched seams gives a sleek profile improving the look, fit and comfort of control garments. Sewfree(r) adhesive film from Bemis enhances control properties allowing lighter weight, open, and more attractive fabrics to be used as the controlling panel. Sewfree(r) can be used throughout the entire control garment to create a whole new look and fit to this area of garment design. DECORATE For this luxurious theme we were insprired by trendy, new tapestry patterns. Flowing floral elements as well as graphically arranged lines accentuate and decorate the broader and lavish patterns of bras and panties. The freshness of the colours is always in harmony with the subjacent skin. For a lavish appearance we use different prints, shiny yarns and some satin. ADORE The subtlety of this deliberately traditional embroidery theme is reflected in the diversity of various techniques. We intentionally forgo colourfulness to present the beauty of the embroidery in its most effective form. White, ivory and very delicate pastel colours underline the natural look. For this theme we use very fine yarns and fabrics with a cotton or linen optic amongst others. ORIENT This theme covers the entire orient without a specific style direction. The multiplicity of forms and shapes out of architecture, jewellery, everyday life objects and textiles inspire to daring ornamental designs in motifs and new usage of embroideries. We accentuate with clear, clean and bright colours and also use partially metallic yarns.

AN HOUSEHOLD TASTE A return to a “handmade” feel, with rustic-style period embroidery and a host of old memories. It is like going back to our origins, on a search for classic designs and textures. There is a revival of patchwork mixed with floral pattern lace, small polka dots and Vichy fabric. Delicate pastel hues dominate the colour range: green, sky blue, light grey and antique pink. Lace takes on a leading role with the powder pink skin tones and a nod to the sky blue and printed lace decorations taken from the company’s archives, which emphasize the fake relief effects such as macramé and the sandblasted look. An important part is played by the innovative use of Sensitive Touch with an ECO PRINT, which gives it an exceptional visual and tactile sand effect, with the use of a special colour range. LIVE ON THE WATER A theme inspired by the call of nature and a return to primordiality. It is a form of primitive luxury offering a selection of tribal stamps, revamped and traditional camouflage and animal prints with a very ethnic feel. Two elements – earth and water – come together to produce a blend of colours, with green tones and shades of muddy brown. There are patchworks of dark green lace with lace effect prints that have an astonishing three-dimensional appearance. The main fabrics used are the light, ultra-fine Sensitive Seric Plus, which gives flawless wearability and soft transparency, and Sensitive Sheer, which is one of the latest fabrics dedicated to underwear and offers both comfort and elegance. It is a thick fabric that envelops you like a second skin. It is soft to the touch, fluid and shiny. With its mix of strength and delicacy, it provides the perfect balance between wearability and style. WHITE LIGHT SPIRIT A desire to get away from the routine and to feel liberated. It has an innocent appeal that plays with cold, impalpable colours, watercolours with tiny geometric prints and floral effects. The textures are reminiscent of cotton and taffeta with their printed effects. The main fabrics used in this theme are Sensitive Touch and slightly matt Sensitive Plus, which gives a cotton appearance that fits in well with the overall sense of lightness.

First the company is launching CornLeaf, made with a biopolymer featuring Ingeo polylactic acid (PLA), the innovative material that is obtained 100% from renewable vegetal resources. The continuous skein-dyed yarn, available in a vast array of colors, is 100% biodegradable and is produced by means of a process that reduces CO2 emissions and the consumption of both water and energy. And that’s not all; this remarkable yarn features a special micro composition certified to contain metallic silver which serves to guarantee effective antibacterial activity. There have been some new entries in the Radilon line which has been expanded to include some new yarn products for the circular knitting, weaving and non-run product areas, making them ideal for the underwear, sports and beachwear sectors. // POLYESTER // POLIESTERE // POLIÉSTER // FILATURE MIROGLIO In the occasion of the X-Yachts Gold Cup the sailing event held in Scarlino (Grosseto, Italy) in September of 2010, Filature Miroglio donated for the crews a polo shirt made from 100% recycled Newlife polyester; it was produced by transforming plastic (PET) bottles, by means of a process entirely free of environmentally harmful emissions. Part of the “I verde mare” project, this initiative brought together three Piemontese manufacturing firms all close together, thereby reducing the carbon footprint: Demap of Turin for the collection and division of the bottles; Dentis of Saluzzo (CN) for the transformation of the PET bottles into the raw material for the spinning process; and Filature Miroglio of Saluzzo (CN) for the production of the remarkable Newlife yarn. Every polo produced made it possible to recycle 6 plastic bottles collected in ecological waste disposal containers (for a total of 6.000 bottles in order to produce 1,000 polos) and in X-YACHTS GOLD CUP terms of eco-sustainability the manufacturing process avoider the emission of some 700 tones of CO2 and the utilization of fully 300kg of petroleum. The machine is available in two different configurations, a traditional one featuring frontal cutting and a cold guide; and a second version with a hot guiding system. This makes it possible to use the machine in the “technical and/or safety garment” sector, as well as for “underwear”. In addition, both the quality of the operation of the taping makes it unnecessary to repeat the process with other tapes, thus significantly reducing costs. Willy Hermann, Austria’s leading producer of circular and warp knitted fabrics takes over with immediate effect the bulk of the circular knitted fabrics production of the swiss dyeing and printing company E. Schellenberg Texttildruck AG, on the market under the name Greuter-Jersey. Willy Hermann will integrate Greuter-Jersey fabrics in its own collection and its worldwide distribution structure. On the other hand Greuter-Jersey will integrate into its own collection a number of fabrics of Willy Hermann, offering its distribution network to existing and new customers.

Megatex a company in Puglia which is specialized in the hosiery sector and works on an exclusive license bases for a number of brands, such as Freddy, Brooksfield, Sergio Tacchini and Diadora, has just landed a license deal with the Best Company, a brand in the portfolio of the Cisalfa Group. They have plans for developing a collection of hosiery and a complete line of underwear and nightwear for men, women and children, under the direction of the Caldarelli Licensing Agency and Brand Connection.

Hyosung, the South Korean company that owns the Creora brand, is undergoing a process of bolstering and diversifying its production capacity which includes substantial investments in the swimwear sector. This Asian group is on the brink of producing full 134,000 tones of spandex by the end of 2012, up considerably from the mere 180 tones of 1992. With total sales in the area of some 8.7 billion dollars, Hyosung currently counts on a network of over 36 subsidiaries and branch operations located around the world.

CPD SIGNATURES 6-8 FEBRUARY, DÜSSELDORF A debut guided by optimism and new developments for Cpd Signatures, the new trade fair that is substituting the “old” Cpd in Düsseldorf. Here the main goals of the “new deal” are clarity and efficiency, thanks to a business-oriented approach that is aimed at further harmonizing itself with the driving themes for the retail sector and focusing on the young segment. The fair is scheduled to take place in Fashion Halls 13/14 of the Exhibition Centre, at the same time as Cpd in Time Accessories. “With Cpd Signatures we want to create something attractive in order to significantly increase our importance in this sector”, explained Philipp Kronen, managing partner of the Igedo Company. Mode City the world’s leading fair when it comes to beachwear, summer intimate apparel and wellness products which will be held next from 9 to 11 July 2011 in pavilion 1 of the Porte de Versailles facility, is launching a new image that softens its codes and underscores its positioning. The new campaign, carried out by the Five Agency, and the photographer, Philippe Kerlo, features a solar, intimate atmosphere that pervades all the various universes of beachwear and summer underwear. Yellows are turned into gold as shadows are illuminated and women are the central focus of the image evoked: a new look that represents and genuine invitation to travel and dream.
