l 68è Ral·li Costa Brava — enguany, del 13 al 14 de març— ens recorda amb orgull que ben aviat se’n celebrarà la setantena edició. Una fita lloable, emocionant i repleta de valor, que posiciona les comarques gironines a Europa i ens potencia, de nou, com una de les destinacions turístiques europees de referència. L’esport del motor porta dècades essent una referència i deixantse sentir pel territori. El poder de convocatòria queda demostrat per la capacitat d’aplegar molts aficionats en competicions com aquesta, que reuneixen els millors esportistes nacionals i europeus. En aquest sentit, el Ral·li Costa Brava ha esdevingut un dels esdeveniments més especials del territori i una data assenyalada per a nosaltres. I si el Ral·li Costa Brava es pot considerar un exemple clar de
feina ben feta i de compromís, és gràcies a la tasca que duen a terme Àlex Romaní i tot el seu equip, que durant l’any treballen perquè el seguit de competicions esportives que organitzen siguin un èxit, tot i que aquest any les seqüeles del temporal Gloria no els ho han posat gens fàcil, ja que han forçat canvis en el traçat de la segona etapa. Per motius com aquest és importantíssim valorar la seva feina. RallyClassics té la capacitat de fer-nos viure amb joia l’orgull pel motor i la carretera! De ben segur que durant els pràcticament 450 quilòmetres de recorregut —en una competició que apunta com la més multitudinària de la història— fruirem amb el rugir dels motors. ins el calendari esportiu a Girona, la celebració del Rally Costa Brava és sens dubte un dels esdeveniments més esperats. És el ral·li més antic de l’Estat Espanyol, i per tant acumula una tradició que el fa especial per als aficionats al motor, que a casa nostra sou una multitud. Com a alcaldessa, us asseguro que transmeteu aquesta il·lusió al conjunt de la ciutat, on durant un cap de setmana vivim com a espectadors de luxe gràcies al fet de ser la base de la competició. Vull destacar també la rellevància internacional del Rally Costa Brava, que creix cada vegada més. Aquest és el resultat de la bona feina de l’organització, i un exemple de com en l’entorn actual i en tots els diferents sectors, és important també ampliar la nostra àrea d’influència per guanyar repercussió i qualitat. Com a ciutat, Girona ens hem posicionat al capdavant del país en àmbits com la cultura o la sostenibilitat, i també en l’esport. Per mantenir aquest lideratge, cal que des de l’Ajuntament i també des del món empresarial i associatiu

caminem plegats en la mateixa direcció. Estem fent de Girona una capital del sud d’Europa i una ciutat de referència on viure, i això és gràcies a l’esforç de tots, també d’aquells qui aposteu per nosaltres per desenvolupar i fer-hi créixer les vostres activitats.

es carreteres gironines estan a punt per rebre de nou l’emblemàtic Rally Costa Brava. Ho fan per 68a vegada, una xifra a la qual poques competicions poden arribar, però que aquesta cita organitzada per RallyClassics celebra en plena forma i consolidada com un referent internacional entre els ral·lis històrics. Si en remetem a les dades objectives, el Costa Brava pot presumir de tornar a superar el rècord de participants, amb més de 190 pilots, la meitat dels quals estrangers. És la primera prova puntuable pels Campionats d’Europa, Espanya i Catalunya de Velocitat en Ral·lis Històrics, i compta amb un recorregut de 449 quilòmetres durant dues atractives jornades que generaran un impacte econòmic i turístic molt important a les poblacions implicades.
Tenir tan a prop cotxes mítics que ens fan reviure la millor època dels ral·lis és un luxe que no podem desaprofitar. I ho fa possible RallyClassics, amb l’Alex Romaní al capdavant, a qui vull felicitar per la feinada prèvia i l’èxit posterior, a tots nivells, que comporta donar continuïtat a aquesta competició. El Govern vol posar-hi el seu granet de sorra i, novament, donarem suport a una prova que tenim marcada en vermell en el nostre calendari anual d’esdeveniments esportius internacionals. La 68 edició del Rally Costa Brava tampoc seria possible sense la participació dels municipis -amb Girona com a centre neuràlgic-, els patrocinadors, els col·laboradors i els voluntaris. A tots
ells, us agraeixo que feu costat a la seva celebració. Estic convençut, a més, que els pilots ens oferiran un espectacle d’alt nivell en cada tram i que l’afició s’ho passarà d’allò més bé. Acabo donant la benvinguda al grup d’esportistes i seguidors de fora del

Però estem parlant, també, d’un esdeveniment que porta associats altres al·licients menys tangibles però tant o més rellevants. El ral·li, el més antic d’Espanya, està valorat per la Federació Internacional i pels pilots com el millor de la temporada, projecta Catalunya al món gràcies a una organització modèlica i a la multitudinària participació d’esportistes de 16 països, i ens serveix per reivindicar la tradició catalana de l’automobilisme i la passió per un esport que al nostre país manté en plena activitat un nombre molt destacat de practicants i professionals, empreses i instal·lacions.

Un año más, comienza la temporada del CERVH y con ella, el Rally Costa Brava, una prueba FIA puntuable a nivel nacional y europeo, lo cual es un enorme orgullo por la repercusión y difusión que le otorga al evento y a la modalidad, tanto dentro como fuera de nuestras fronteras. Gracias al éxito de las ediciones pasadas, a cuál mejor, los tramos catalanes volverán a formar parte del rutómetro del calendario del CERVH, que inaugura su temporada junto a la del Campeonato Europeo de Históricos, en las disciplinas de regularidad y velocidad. Como no podía ser de otra forma, el equipo de RallyClassics, capitaneado por Álex Romaní, ha organizado de nuevo una cita referente a nivel europeo con unos tramos tan espectaculares como nos tiene acostumbrados, de enorme

atractivo para equipos, aficionados y marcas, asegurando el espectáculo durante todo el fin de semana. Por supuesto, quiero recordar a todos los aficionados que es imprescindible respetar el trabajo y las indicaciones de los oficiales y fuerzas del orden, que realizan una gran labor para que la prueba pueda celebrarse con total seguridad y que sea de nuevo un éxito. Como siempre digo, la seguridad de un rally empieza por la de uno mismo.

Res de tot això no seria possible sense l’entusiasme per fer bé les coses per part dels organitzadors que, un any més, duen a terme una tasca magnífica abans de començar la prova, i que segur que continua fins l’acabament de la mateixa, comptant amb un element essencial com és el civisme de tots els aficionats que gaudirem d’aquest espectacle. l Rally Costa Brava y Antonio Zanini forman un binomio que permanecerá unido para la posterioridad. El pluricampeón de España no tan sólo se ha adjudicado este rally en tres ocasiones en su versión de velocidad, sino que la última vez que lo hizo, en 1980, la victoria le sirvió para iniciar su carrera hacia el título continental, que al final de año y tras 12 rallyes disputados ganaría de un modo tan brillante como épico. Hace justo 40 años que Antonio Zanini, copilotado por Jordi Sabater y al volante de un Porsche 911 SC, logró el triunfo en un Rally Costa Brava que históricamente se adjudicaban los pilotos que a final de año era Campeones de Europa, como una vez más sucedió. Tras dos subcampeonatos, el título europeo era la gran ilusión de un Zanini convertido casi de la noche a la mañana en piloto privado. No iba errado en su objetivo, ya que sin Opel ni el grupo Fiat corriéndolo el europeo de 1980 parecía asequible para un buen piloto que estuviera correctamente armado... y con presupuesto: ¡justo lo que no tenía Zanini! Tras cesar las actividades de Seat Competición, el piloto de Viladrau tenía la

opción de montar un programa con un Fiat 131 Abarth que la marca le cedía (el que le había permitido ser subcampeón europeo un año antes), pero Zanini no vio claro correr con ese coche y prefirió intentar la aventura europea con un Porsche alquilado a la estructura francesa Alméras. Aunque conservó durante todo el año el status de empleado de Seat, correr por libre el europeo eran palabras mayores, tanto que Antonio tuvo que empeñar una parte de su patrimonio para arrancar el programa en el Rally Costa Brava. Sin patrocinadores que soportaran la

participación, sólo discretas ayudas técnicas, Zanini y Sabater, dos mecánicos de Alméras y un numeroso grupo de amigos que obraban como asistencia más voluntaria que eficaz, se presentaron en Lloret para batirse por la victoria. Así arrancó Antonio Zanini el europeo de 1980, sin el presupuesto adecuado y con la incógnita de si lo podría seguir en su totalidad o no. El Costa Brava era el gran test, si la cosa iba bien quizás encontrar el presupuesto sería más factible, pero si no era así la ilusión europea tendría que aparcarse. De entrada, los hermanos Alméras apreciaban la capacidad de convicción y las cualidades de Zanini, aunque tenían claro que no había dinero. Pero la proverbial tenacidad de Antonio afloró desde el primer instante y luchó con ahínco para disponer de la mejor mecánica posible. En el Rallye Monte-Carlo de aquel año Zanini, acompañado de Aman Barfull, trabajó como ouvreur del equipo francés, que alineaba nada menos que a Hannu Mikkola, quien se retiró por rotura de un semieje. Y fue precisamente el Porsche 911 SC que utilizó el finlandés en el rally monegasco el que le adjudicaron Jacques y Jean-Marie Alméras a Antonio para el inicio de la aventura europea.
El gran rival parecía ser el francés Bernard Béguin, con otro 911 SC, pero del preparador Meznarie, binomio que lideraría la carrera catalana hasta el momento de su retirada. Zanini-Sabater, que habían realizado una gran actuación dominando al resto de la competencia, entre ella el Stratos de Jorge de Bagratión, el Vauxhall de Pentti Airikkala y el Alfetta de Mauro Pregliasco, lograba un espectacular triunfo que era saludado con euforia por todo el mundillo automovilístico español. La victoria con todos los honores en el Rally Costa Brava a bordo de un Porsche limpio de publicidad abría todas las expectativas, que Zanini y su gente lograrían encauzar hasta vencer el título tras 7 victorias y otros 2 resultados. Y, efectivamente, los patrocinadores fueron apareciendo tras ganar el Rally Costa Brava: Jocavi, Walter Wolf, Ducados, etc. Antonio Zanini, que ya había hecho historia en 1977 al conquistar el primer podio español en el mundial, lograba el mejor título internacional del automovilismo de nuestro país hasta aquella fecha. 911 SC y acompañado de uno de los amigos de 1980, Joan Solé, propietario de la unidad que conducirá. En la salida de Girona recibirá todo el cariño de RallyClassics, de las autoridades y de los aficionados. Aquel título de Campeón de Europa fue algo muy grande que abrió la puerta a futuros éxitos de pilotos españoles. Es curioso observar que esta magnífica victoria de 1980 en el Rally
Costa Brava fue replicada 25 años después por el propio Zanini y su hija Glòria en el Rally Costa Brava Històric de 2005, también con un Porsche 911. Los años pasan, pero los éxitos quedan y la memoria de todo ello permanece escrita en los anales de nuestra historia. Just 40 years ago, Antonio Zanini, codrived by Jordi Sabater and with a Porsche 911 SC, achieved the victory in a Rally Costa Brava that historically was won by drivers who at the end of the year were European Champions, as it happened once again. dream, who turned into a private driver in a really short time. He was not wrong in his goal, considering that without Opel or Fiat participating in the European Championship of 1980, it seemed affordable for a good driver who was rightly prepared ... and with a proper budget: just what Zanini did not have in that moment! After ceasing the activities of Seat Competición, the Viladrau driver had the option of setting up a program with a Fiat 131 Abarth that the brand gave him (which allowed him to be European runner-up a year earlier), but Zanini did not think appropriate to run with that car and decided to try the European adventure with a Porsche rented to the French structure Alméras. Although he retained the status of Seat employee during all the year, taking part in the European Championship by himself were big words, so Antonio had to pawn a part of his estate to start the program at the Rally Costa Brava. Without sponsors to support his participation, having only discrete technical aids Zanini and Sabater, two Alméras mechanics and a large group of friends who worked as more voluntary than effective assistance, appeared in Lloret to fight for victory. This is how Antonio Zanini started the European Championship in 1980, without the proper budget and with the question of whether he would be able to finish it. The Costa Brava was the biggest test, if everything went well it would be easier to find the necessary budget, but if that was not the case the Euro-

pean dream would have to be parked aside. From the beginning, the Alméras brothers appreciated Zanini’s convincing capacity and qualities, although they were aware that there was no money. But Antonio’s tenacity surfaced from the first moment and he fought hard to get the best possible mechanics. In the Rally Monte-Carlo of the same year, Zanini, with Aman Barfull as co-driver, worked as an “ouvreur” of the French team, which was formed by no less than Hannu Mikkola, who had to retire due to a half shaft breakage. And it was precisely the Porsche 911 SC that the Finnish used in the Monegasque rally, the one that Jacques and Jean-Marie Alméras gave to Antonio for the European adventure. The biggest rival seemed to be the Frenchman Bernard Béguin, with another 911 SC, prepared by Meznarie, a binomial that would lead the Catalan race until they withdrew. Winning the Rally Costa Brava with full honours, in the European championship, aboard a Porsche without ads, opened all expectations, and Zanini and his people managed to channel until winning the title after 7 victories and 2 other results. All sponsors began to appear after winning the Rally Costa Brava: Jocavi, Walter Wolf, Ducados, etc. Antonio Zanini, who had already made history in 1977 when he got the first Spanish podium in the world’s championship, achieved the best international motorsport title in our country until that date. Antonio Zanini participates this year in the 68 Rally Costa Brava FIA with a replica of his Porsche 911 SC and accompanied by one of his 1980’s friends, Joan Solé, owner of the unit he will use in the rally. At the start, in Girona, he will receive all the love from RallyClassics, the authorities and the fans. That European championship title was something very important that opened the door to the future success of Spanish drivers. Remarkably, this magnificent victory in 1980 in the Rally Costa Brava was replicated 25 years later by Zanini and his daughter Glòria in the 2005 edition of the Rally Costa Brava Historic with a Porsche 911, too. Time goes by but successes remain in our memory becoming part of our history. Zanini, with a Porsche, and the Rally Costa Brava meet again after 40 years, so let’s enjoy it!
