Mallorca has historically been associated with top-level tennis. The island has not only produced many of the greatest talents in the history of the ATP Tour, such as world No. 1 Rafael Nadal and Carlos Moyà, but has also established itself as the cradle of top-level international tournaments such as the Mallorca Championships. From the 19th to the 26th of June at the Mallorca Country Club, the island will once again host such an important men’s tennis event 19 years later.
The Mallorca Championships is a complete tennis experience. In addition to watching the matches played by the best players in the world, the facilities allow you to enjoy a full culinary offer in the Food Court or a unique VIP experience throughout the day of competition. Fans will have the opportunity to continue to follow the game even when the sun goes down, at sunset brightened up by the lights.
Between 1998 and 2002, five editions were held in Mallorca, then on clay. During that period, great legends of the sport such as Juan Carlos Ferrero, Gustavo Kuerten and Marat Safin won the trophy. In addition, Nadal signed the first of more than 1,000 victories in his career, when he was only 15 years old, against the Paraguayan Ramón Delgado by 6-4, 6-4.
3. The return of Kyrgios One of the big attractions of the line-up will be the presence of Nick Kyrgios among the players fighting for the champion’s title. The Australian will return in Mallorca after six months without competing. In the first half of the year, he only played the ATP 250 Melbourne-2 and the Australian Open in
his country, where he played some great five-set matches against Ugo Humbert and Dominic Thiem. The player who was born in Canberra 26 years ago promises a great show on a surface where he already knows what it is like to string together a good number of victories, securing his presence in the second week of Wimbledon three times (2014, 2015, 2016).
4. First ATP grass-court tournament in Spain The Mallorca Championships is one of the four tournaments on the ATP Tour calendar to be held in Spain this season. However, the main difference to the other tournaments is the surface on which this ATP 250 event is played. It moves away from the traditional reddish colour of brick dust to let grass dominate the courts. This makes it a unique
