The fascination of the urban architecture of its old quarter, Estefânea district and villages providing patches of colour on the surrounding flatland, comprises a prime location of inestimable beauty and cultural and natural interest. This beautiful town became even more famous in 1995 when UNESCO awarded it World Heritage status (Cultural Landscape category).
