SSP SAILER STEPAN UND PARTNER GMBH

The demolition and rebuilding of Hotel Königshof, a superior 5-star hotel at the heart of Munich, is a massive challenge for all parties involved. The old 6-storey building will be replaced by a new 10-storey building. Tobias Schneider from the structural engineering firm SSP presented the project to the scholarship holders. Matthias Filus, also a structural engineer with SSP, explained the calculations performed to investigate the impact of the construction works on the nearby underground and railway tunnels. The infrastructural dimension of the project is remarkable, given that the hotel with its 40 × 60-metre footprint will span two existing underground tubes. In addition, the site has a very busy tramline running along its circumference as well as a city train station located underground.

Representing the clients, Prof. Arnold Tautschnig, bau-control ZT, gave an account of the problems and challenges from his perspective. Katrin Meyer and Nils Heintze – both from Leitwerk – described the schedule and logistics of the construction project.

After the lecture, the scholarship holders showed great interest in the opportunity to discuss with the expert practitioners.
