PREFAZIONE / PREFACE Questa nuova raccolta, Rock Moments for Guitar – Homage to the Legend, sviluppa il percorso creativo iniziato con i Pop Studies attraverso dieci brani scritti in omaggio ad alcune leggende del rock: due solisti, Bruce Springsteen e Sting, e otto gruppi musicali, i Metallica, i Led Zeppelin, i Doors, gli Scorpions, i Deep Purple, i Pink Floyd, i Coldplay e i Queen. Il volume si completa inoltre con due composizioni: una Simple Suite, in sette movimenti, che evoca la dimensione tecnico-strumentale dei Pop Studies, e un brano conclusivo, Tremolo for Dida, incentrato sulla tecnica del “tremolo” e dedicato a una meravigliosa mamma gatta. La notazione è volutamente essenziale e di agile lettura, ma la scrittura a due voci, presente in quasi tutti i brani, sottintende un’interpretazione polifonica più articolata.
This new collection, Rock Moments for Guitar – Homage to the Legend, continues the creative path that began with Pop Studies through ten songs written in tribute to ten rock legends: two soloists, Bruce Springsteen and Sting, and eight bands, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Scorpions, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Coldplay and Queen. The volume is completed by two compositions: a Simple Suite in seven movements, which revisits the technical-instrumental dimension of Pop Studies, and a concluding piece, Tremolo for Dida, focused on the technique of “tremolo” and dedicated to a wonderful cat named Dida. The notation is deliberately basic and easy to read, but the writing for two voices, present in almost all the pieces, demands a more articulated polyphonic interpretation.
I Rock Moments non sono cover di brani famosi ma composizioni originali che si propongono di far respirare, attraverso la chitarra cosiddetta “classica”, le sensazioni elettriche dei grandi palchi del rock, conservando tuttavia la ricchezza di sfumature timbriche e dinamiche proprie dei contesti cameristici. La loro interpretazione apre inoltre la possibilità, per i chitarristi “classici”, di esibirsi in spazi tradizionalmente inconsueti.
Rock Moments are not covers of famous songs but original compositions that are intended to allow the so-called “classical” guitar to transmit the electricity of rock, while retaining the nuances of timbre and rich dynamics associated with chamber music. Their interpretation also opens up the possibility for classical guitarists to perform in non-classical venues.
Nei sette brani della Simple Suite emergono le immagini di una natura antica, il ricordo di una vecchia casa di campagna, di piccole strade rurali, di una cucina del primo Novecento, del grande albero che ha visto il passare di tante stagioni: acquerelli sonori sospesi per sempre nel tempo della memoria. Tremolo for Dida è infine il mio omaggio alla straordinaria sensibilità felina, all’energia e all’intelligenza del mondo animale che non finisce mai di stupirci.
In the seven movements of the Simple Suite, images of yesteryear emerge – the memory of an old country house, of unpaved rural roads, of a turn-of-the-century kitchen, of a great tree that has seen the passage of many seasons – like watercolor soundscapes suspended forever in the timelessness of memory. Tremolo for Dida is my tribute to the feline sensibility and the extraordinary energy and intelligence of the animal world that never ceases to amaze us.
