USER SCENARIOS STRELKA WORKSHOP Workshop organised as part of the CANactions Festival in Kiev on 18.05.2014 and curated by Strelka Institute of Media Architecture and Design (Moscow) and Off-The-Grid Studio (Moscow/London). Curators were Ekaterina Girshina (Strelka Institute), Anna Pozniak (Strelka Institute) and Edouard Moreau (Off-TheGrid Studio). Total duration of the workshop: 6h. The re-development of large industrial territories such as Telichka is a multifaceted process whose success depends not only on top-down physical planning of the territory but also on the elaboration of a coherent, inter-related and complex programming, adapted to the natural intricacies and diversity of our contemporary lifestyles and meaningful to the local context.
During the masterclass, tutors Ekaterina Girshina, Anna Pozniak and Edouard Moreau first asked participants to research different facets of the territory in separate groups (users, stakeholders, activities, spaces, temporalities, etc.) relevant for Telichka. The groups then mixed to creatively combine these different brainstormings into coherent and integrated users scenarios. Finally, participants were guided to produce user scenarios maps in software Illustrator which was compiled into the present collective poster as the main outcome of the workshop.

Each object, whereas a space or a building, had an inherent “paradoxical situation” due to their location, situation in the surrounding urban system, aesthetics, current/past conditions, scale, etc. Those paradoxes are opportunities for interesting distinct phenomena to emerge and contribute to the uniqueness of the district. Once identified, participants transform them into project proposals which could add to the richness of the serendipity of future users within the site.
